Apple id format for using find my iphone

Hi,
How do i use my existing apple id for setting up the Find My Iphone? the set up screen says to input the apple id as [email protected], ie in an email address format, whereas my apple id is not in the [email protected] format. it is only xxx.

You need to change your old Apple ID to one with an email address. Here is some info from a FaceTime document (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4319):
Ensure that the Apple ID you are using to register FaceTime on iPod touch (4th generation) is an email address. If your Apple ID is not an email address, you can change it on appleid.apple.com. This article provides instructions on how to change the Apple ID.
"appleid.apple.com is":

Perhaps you can provide an intelligible question. Neither your topic title nor the linked discussion is helpful.
If you need to enable Find My Phone on your iPhone then you do that in Settings. Tap Settings > iCloud > Find My Phone switch to ON (green.)

  • How many devices can be under one Apple ID for using find my iPhone?

I work for a school and we were told by an Apple representative that Find My iPhone works for only 10 devices under each Apple ID. Is this true? If I have 30 iPads under 1 apple ID will only 10 of them show up under "Devices" on iCloud? Will we only be able to locate 10 of them?

Documentation related to the iTunes store indicates that a maximum of 10 devices can be associated with a single ID (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627).  I'm not sure, however, if that applies to iCloud or not.  If it does, you could always assign a different Apple ID and associated iCloud account to each group of 10.  You could still track them all; you would just have to sign into each iCloud account separately to track the devices associated with that ID.  Apple may also have other enterprise solutions that would be available to your situation.  You should contact Apple directly to inquire about this.

  • MobileMe not sending me verification mail for using Find my iPhone

    Hi,
Using an iPhone 4 (factory unlocked) in India.
I am trying to use the Find my Iphone and have followed the steps till creating a new mobile me account.
I am not able to receive the verification mail though. I have been trying for almost 3 days by requesting for the resend verification mail option, but not receiving anything either in the mailbox or spam/ junk.
Any ideas on what else I can do to make this work?
    Thanks,

OK, so got this info on another thread that the apple ID needs to be the email address, so changed, and got the verification mail
Set up now, but can only view the iphone on the iphone itself.
When I try to view it using me.com, it keeps asking me for my password???
This is wierd.. Whats the point of checking a lost phone, if not on a computer?
    Any ideas?

  • We have two iphones and only one ipad.  We want to be able to use "find my iphone" for both phones, which have separate apple ids.  How do we get our ipad to accept this?

We have two iphones and only one ipad - no mac.  We want to be able to use "find my iphone" for both phones.  How do we get the ipad to accept two iphone accounts?  icloud is enabled on all three devices.

Also, be aware of the following:
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  Something as small as an iPod/iPhone should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

That app is also compatible with the iPad and requires iOS 3.1.3 or later.

Can I use Find My iPhone with my Apple Watch? Is there an app for it on Apple Watch? Can I add my Apple Watch to my Find My iPhone Account?

    No. No. And No.
You can 'ping' your phone and have it play a sound (even if it's muted) from the watch, but it must be in range... That's intended to help you locate it if it's nearby but you forgot where you put it, or it slipped behind a couch cushion or something.

Notes on Transferring OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks…
Most MP3 capable devices should play OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks.
If you intend to transfer OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks to an Apple® device, note the following…
iTunes® v9.0.2 (or newer) is required.
The Apple device must be formatted for use with Microsoft® Windows®.
The iTunes setting 'Manually manage music…' must be enabled for the device before you can complete the transfer. Adjust this setting in iTunes as follows…
Connect the iPod® to your computer.
If it does not launch automatically, open iTunes v9.0.2 (or newer).
In iTunes, locate the device in the left vertical navigation panel (under heading 'DEVICES'), and click the device.
    The 'Summary' screen is displayed.
Place a checkmark next to 'Manually manage music…'.
    Click the 'Apply' button.
The iTunes 'Summary' screen refreshes, and the changes are saved.
    If desired, close iTunes.
Note that if an Apple device is connected to your computer, you can choose to simultaneously transfer a title to the iTunes Library and the Apple device. If you wish to only transfer a title to the iTunes Library, you must first disconnect the Apple device

Also you said " I want to add them to my iCloud, and also back to my computer.   " Note that unless  subscribe to iTunes match, only iTunes purchases are stored in iCloud.
    Also,
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Can you use find my iPhone with iPad and iPhone and the same icloud account for both?

I have an iPhone and iPad. I use find my iPhone for both. If I use the same icloud account for both, how do I separate them on the map, or if I lose one and want to remote wipe the lost one but not the one in my possession?

It will list each device separately, I even have two macs along with my ipad listed

The phone will automatically re-appear when it connects to the Internet. However, don't get your hopes up, as thieves know this & will make sure your phone never re-connects so you can locate it.

I have been using find my iPhone on my iPhone 4s for the past year.  I will look at it occasionally to keep track of my 12 year old.  All of a sudden I have to log in every time I click on the app.  I have always remained logged in in the past.. I upgraded to IOS 8 today thinking that might fix it.  It has not.

And maybe you don't talk to too many people but I've been on many forums on different websites where people have had similar problems and a lot of people in the store were having battery problems where they were draining too fast. What I learned is that all the people who did not download the updates are good. There phone is working the same. The people who have, they're having battery problems
I have downloaded every update and my battery life is better than any previous iPhone I have ever owned. I see posts from hundreds of people every day, and this is not a commonly reported problem. While there are a few random reports of battery problems, it is no more than I have seen for any other model or any other version of iOS in almost 8 years. Usually problems of rapid battery drain can be traced to bad apps (FaceBook is the worst offender) or corrupt data being synced from iCloud or other sources (gmail, Windows Live, Yahoo, etc).
The simple test is to restore the phone as New. Do not create any email accounts. Do not install any apps. Do not enable FaceTime or iMessage. Do not enable Twitter or any other social networking app. Use it for a day and check the battery usage. You will find that it is working well.
