Apple ID Haunting Us

My wife created an Apple ID from a Hotmail address years ago when I bought her an iPod. She gave the iPod to one of our kids, who has since lost it. When I bought my wife her first iPhone 4, she set it up using the same Apple ID, but somewhere along the way, her Apple ID became corrupted. She created a new Apple ID with a Gmail address when she bought her iPad, but the old Hotmail Apple ID remained on her phone. When we upgraded her phone to a 5S last year, the Apple Store rep told us not to set it up with the old ID, but to use the new one. Unfortunately, I connected her 5S to her Macbook to download her contacts and apps, and it also downloaded her Hotmail Apple ID for her iCloud. She can use her Gmail Apple ID for iTunes purchases, but she cannot access her iCloud because of the corrupted Apple ID.
We have tried to delete the Apple ID, but it always asks for her password. She can't remember her original password, and every time we try to change it, it won't change, even after we get an authentication from Apple that we successfully changed it! We have called Apple Support, and they claim the Apple ID is not in their database. Somehow, one of the techs we talked with found the ID (not sure where or how), but he needed us to provide the serial number of the original iPod that we no longer have. Apple won't delete it outright because of a policy that would allow a person to wipe clean a stolen iPhone once the Apple ID is bypassed. This is frustrating!!
Has anyone had similar experiences? This has been going on now for about three years. I am at my wits end on what to do.

If you still have the computer that the iPad was synced with you can find the ID by doing the following:
Launch iTunes on the computer.
Hold down your Control key, then on the menu bar in iTunes click iTunes>About iTunes (Mac) or Help>About iTunes (PC).*
Any previously synced devices will scroll in a pop-up window; press the space bar to stop scrolling so you can write down the serial number.

Is my Apple TV haunted?

Periodically (maybe every 2-3 days) my ATV spontaneously wakes up from the "sleep mode". Nobody touches the remote, but the LED comes on, and if I go to the ATV input on my HDTV, it is showing the screen saver. I've never actually seen it come out of sleep mode. I'm thinking that my TV or VCR remote may be doing it. Anyone else seen this?

That phenomenon has been experienced by many here. It could be the result of some internal housekeeping within the ATV, such as automatically checking for updates, the periodic polling of network devices by the router, port scans from nefarious sources, or who knows what. Without an official explanation from Apple, it's anyone's guess as to what causes it.

This makes sense to me. I think the issue is your misunderstanding. If you purchased an item, your Apple ID becomes tied to that permanently. So when you try to update that app, you need the password to the ID that 'OWNS' that application.
Also, I suspect you have a different ID signed into the device, which is why you can't buy with your own. That article listed shows how to change the signed in account.

Red Circle with Red Square back to haunt me. Apple Techs where are you, why wasn't this addressed in iOS 7.04?

Red Circle With Square - I had the red circle with square for two weeks. I did everything listed in every forum to still end up with a smart phone that couldn't play music(iPhone 4s). After I finally reformatted my HDD and reinstalled a freshcopy of MAVERICKS from USB and wiped my phone it went away.
Then it came back. A week after I finally resolved my problem, 3 days after 7.04 release, I loaded a store bought CD and BAM!!!, all 7288 songs on my iphone no longer played, now I am back to ground zero and getting somewhat fed up. This is ridiculous.

HT5625 multiple apple id's and icloud has one saved that i didn't set up... but it is my email i use daily, but my apple id pass wont email or work

I have an iphone 4 and have just installed the new ios. so my apple id for "icloud" is my email with gmail, but i can't remember my password for that apple id. I have requested it to be reset but it hasn't emailed me anything to reset it. It says to check one of my old email accounts (school email address), but when i check it I don't have any new emails from apple there either...? My itunes apple id on my phone (different apple id) does work and that is the one i'm using to post this request for help. I can't even delete the apple id that my phone says is my "icloud" apple id because that also requires that i know the password for id that i didn't even set up (gmail email address). i did link my gmail email address to my apple id a while back, but now it has come back to haunt me. anyone know anything about how to consolidate these id's and make just one? i need help! i can't use icloud at all until this is resolved... thanks for any help that you can provide!

Iphone using wrong apple id for updates

This has been working in the past but today it is not. I have updated to iOS software 7.1 (11D167) but I don't know if that caused this problem. I only know that I have successfully installed software updates in the past but when I tried today I could not.
I have 5 apps showing as needing updates. They are Bing Search, Lose It!, Yellow Pages and Ancestry. When I try to update all or even each one individually, it prompts me to sign in to iTunes Store and asks for the apple ID password and shows my apple id. What is showing is a very old ID and not my full email address. When I put my apple ID password in it does not recognize it.
I then decided to try and install a new app and see if the app store would have the correct apple ID. When I selected to install the new app, it prompted me for my apple ID password and had the correct apple ID (my full email address showing). I entered my apple ID and the install proceeded successfully.
I saw on another post that there might be old apple IDs in settings for messages, itunes store, etc. so I checked those settings and all of them have my correct full email address for the apple ID.
What's mostly frustrating is that these apps were free to start with so why do I have to enter in a password at all for the updates?
Does anyone know why my phone has reverted to an old apple ID for app updates only, and why now when it was working before? Is there a way I can get apple to destroy any reference to my old unused (and now unacceptable format) apple ID so that it won't pop up to haunt me again?

Delete the apps from the phone and re-download or re-purchase them with the ID you intend to use.

Best practice for managing Apple ID's in an enterprise enviroment.

We have just started to incorporate iPads into our Corporate enviroment. We have had them in use for the last couple of months and to be fair they have worked well but i guess now is the time to try and workout some of the issues we are experiencing with them, the re-occuring issues that just seem to keep haunting us.
As part of the deployment we gave those with current apple id's the option of using their own, particularly those Execs who already had iPads and iPhones. We are currently using active sync with our exchange server for access to email.
How do other people manage Apple ID's?
How do other people handle the password change scenario.. we have had users on holiday where their passwords have expired and they have been unable to access the email...also the issue of you reset your password on the network but you still need to re-authenticate it on the iPad...does anyone have a decent app that can get us round this?

When using just Apple TV, how can I change the Genre of a movie?

It's using iCloud and some of the movie genre's make no sense. For example, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark is listed as Horror, but Elvira's Haunted Hills is showing as Comedy.
I do realize that Elvira Movies are generally listed as Comedy/Horror on IMDB, and that's fine. However I'd prefer to have these movies listed together properly when looking at movies by Genre.
Additionally, The Lost Boys is listed as a Comedy where as it really should be a horror film. It's humor is secondary after all.
Is there a way for me to change, individually, my movies genre? I don't care if it affects anyone else or not, it just doesn't help me to have them so disjointed. This is only using Apple TV and the movies that stream directly from iTunes central database, not anything located on my personal devices (I can change those just fine locally and they will show up correctly if I just look at it via a computer connection.

I had the same bug in songs. It was directly related to tracks purchased in the iTunes store, they wouldn't allow any changes, it was all grayed out.
Here's how I got around it. When I selected more than one item and any other item was not from the iTunes store it would allow me to Get Info and change everything with no problems.
My suggestion is that if you need to, add in a movie from your hard drive (anything at all, it will be a dummy placeholder) that you can you use to select along with the one you need to change. Use command click to select non-contiguous files (even works in different genres), then get info (or command i) and then change your info. You can keep using the same dummy file for as long as you need to to fix the files with incorrect info, then delete it when done.

I phone 4 hangs on to old Apple Id under i OS 5.0.1

I upgraded my Apple Id and the new Id shows up on my iPhone 4 under settings >store but the iPhone presentst the old apple id when I try to upgrade the apps I have purchaded. It wants an old pasword that the system refuses to retieve. I've tried the previously suggested solution of going to "Settings>Store...tap the Apple ID shown, sign out, then sign in using your current ID" but the phone still hangs on to the old ID.
I tried a restore (took three hours) but the old Id came back to haunt me. The system will not give me the old apple id password because it's not in email form.
I really love and depend on my iphone but don't want to repurchase all my apps if possable especially since Apple says u can re re-download a purchased app.
I have upgraded to iOS 5.0.1... has anyone out there encountered this problem?

Email Attachments!! Why can't Apple handle emails that 90% of the WORLD CAN

Why is it that Apple systems have such a difficult time with decoding email attachments sent from PC systems? This has been going on for YEARS. I cannot tell you the number of times I get calls from poor Apple users who say they didn't get my attachment but they got a Mime or winmail.dat file instead. If the vast majority of computer users in this world are on PC's, you would think that Apple might figure out how to decode attacments from PC's.....NO???
What is the problem here? Anyone else frustrated with this crap?

It's not the senders e-mail program ...
it's most likely their ISP's mail server software.
Oh yes this is caused entirely and exclusively by the sender's email client - in this case Winblows Outlook and the oh so wonderful and secure Microslop Exchange Server.
This is an Outlook bug or an intended "feature" that Microslop has known about for a very long time but has chosen not to do fix or do anything about - just like all the other poorly written Microslop software garbage.

The sender of the message must use HTML or Plain Text for message composition (preferably Plain Text) and not RTF when the sender uses Outlook as their email client.
If everyone used Plain Text for message composition, the majority if not all problems experienced with the exchange of email would be eliminated.
Microslop also wrought HTML for message composition upon the internet which came back to haunt Winblows users in a big way and still does to this day.

Can I load my own 720p videos to apple TV?

Hi - I'm considering an Apple TV to preview HD video edits without burning a blue ray.
Can I load my own videos (720p, 23.98fps progressive) onto the current Apple TV and view them - in 720p - through HDMI on a current hi def TV?
I've searched for this, but most questions seem to deal with streaming content - I need something that will playback my own videos at 720 definition - thanks for any responses!

You'd have to take your laptop running itunes to the nightclub and the atv and the laptop would both have to be on a network. That's correct.
The new atv doesn't have a hard drive, just flash memory it uses as cache.
One option you may be interested in is haunting ebay or craigslist to find an OLD atv (the v1s) they have hard drives up to 100g. You can use itunes to sync your video onto this device and it will play without a network and without a running computer. The old atv is much more picky about how the movies are encoded though.
As for encoding the movies go to http://handbrake.fr and download handbrake. Open your movie file, hit the toggle presets button to get the presets flyout. For the old atvs expand the apple menu and select apple tv and hit start. For the new atvs hit "high profile", check the "large file size" box, hit "picture settings" and make sure the video is 1280x720 or less. It's ok for one number to be less than 1280 OR 720 (like 1280x500 or 1000x720) but neither number should be higher than those limits.
Hit start and in a few hours your movie will be ready to drop into itunes.

How to fix fradulant orders place under my apple account?

Hi. I recently got e-mail confirmations of 17 orders place in the online apple store that were not mine. When I logged into my apple ID account they had changed the name and address on the account to ship to them (in Canada). I have since changed the name and address back and changed my password. It appears that they used a different credit card because I did not have mind stored in the system. I tried to call Apple but they weren't very responsive. Had to plead to give them the 17 order numbers and after a while we were cut off and no one ever call me back like promised. I don't want these orders on my account. I don't want it to come back to haunt me if they used some graudualnt credit card etc. I'm not going to wait on the phone with person after person at apple who don't seem to be any help (or really care) and I can't find an e-mail address to send this information to. Any suggestions on how to get all the cleared and off my account?

Call Apple Care and politely but firmly instruct the 1st tier agent to escalate your call immediately to Apple Customer Relations. These agents have the authority to make customers happy.

I seem to have a problem with updating my wsdl file. I'm quite new to this stuff so i don't know if i use the right termes, but here goes nothing.
I am building a collection of webservices which uses a variety of xsd files to determine input and output. When i publish my project to the local server all changes to xsd files is imediatly reflected in the respective wsdl files in which the schemas are used. However one of my XSD files is stucked somewhere in i-don't-know-where. I can modify the file, but when i publish the project to the server nothing happens to the wsdl file. In fact i just tried to delete the file all together and nothing happens. The services that should need the file continues to work and compile and the wsdl( that i access through the overview tab in the browser) is still unchanged.
Does anyone know why this ghost xsd file keeps haunting me?

You don't need access to the email address to log in to the Apple ID and you can change the email if required.
Assuming you don't need it for any services, as you can't actually delete an Apple ID, log in here (link) and remove all personal details from the page and then cease using that account.

Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
