Apple ID invalid after update and reset

Background: Update indicated on phone, so my son did the update. Then, once updated, it wouldn't work properly. He said it told him to reset the phone (or it might have been YouTube that told him. He's 14, so who knows?). Anyway, he reset the phone, and it wouldn't accept his Apple ID. It's been the same since the day I gave it to him. Apple support said to restore again, so I did. Still showing a shorter ID than he has. To top it off, the phone has disappeared from his cloud, but his iPod is still there. He can sign in on the computer with his ID, but not his phone. Any ideas on a fix? I'm confused.

Yeah. That's what I thought as well when I saw what happened. I've been using other Apple devices since before and this was actually the first time I had this kind of problem. Unfortunately, I no longer have any documents that would support my purchase because I just moved to a different place and there's a great chance that the receipt had been lost in the process. Anyhow, thanks for the response. This might sound persistent but I might want to call customer service when I get the time and see if there are any questions/verification that they could ask me to help resolve my concern. After all, I paid for it and I was just able to use it less than 2 years. *sigh

What Apple store told you they wanted $249.00 to tell what is wrong?
If this is a 13" Macbook Pro then that is the cost of the Extended Applecare warranty. As you are outside the 90 days of Free Phone Support then what Apple told you is that to get Phone Support you would either need to pay $45 per phone call or pay $249.00 for the Applecare extended warranty which comes with 3 years Free Phone Support from date of purchase.
Or you can take it to a Apple Genius Bar and have them look at it for Free.
Every Mac comes with 1 year warranty and includes only 90 days of phone support. You can buy the extended Applecare warranty anytime within the first year of ownership, IE until the 1 year warranty runs out.
I suggest you have your computer looked at by either an Apple Authorized Repair Center or Genius Bar and then before the 1 year warranty runs out buying the extended warranty

After reading and resetting everything with Keyboard I still get blank white screen on 2nd? page of boot. The only way I can boot to Mavericks is unplug power cord, push and hold power button while plugging power cord in. Fans run at full speed, machine boots then runs normal except the dvdrw will not . The mid 2011 IMAC had the same problem with LION. I changed hard drives, formatted, and installed a clean install of latest os x mavericks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the uninstaller provided with the Sophos software. You can uninstall CUDA via the preference pane. Be sure you remove the com.nvidia.CUDA extension which is located in the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. Not sure if Fan Control has an uninstaller so you will have to do it manually:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.
Be sure to remove your two Login Items. Finally do this:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Make sure iTunes on the computer is logged into the account on the phone.
    Plug the iPhone in.
In the popup window warning about wiping your phone, hit cancel.
In the left pane of iTunes, the phone icon should be there.
Right click on it, select transfer purchases.
Note: this will only transfer music bought from iTunes. Not mp3's from amazon or ripped from CD's.

When you select update, verify that it is showing your correct Apple ID, perhaps you have an app that was downloaded with a different ID, all apps are always associated with the ID that first downloaded them.

  • Airport Problems after update and trouble shooting

    Hi There,
I have an Intel iMac and after updating airport i've been having problems with it. I'll be using the internet and all of a sudden it will just disconnect and cannot detect any network connections. Now, i've seen the other posting already about fixing this problem, and I have done what it says to fix the problem by moving the system configuration folder and the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file. After I do this, it works for a few hours but then i have the same problem again. The folder and the file is recreating and i have to follow the same steps and move them again, but then every few hours it keeps getting recreating. Is there something that i can do so i'm not constantly moving the files around and having to re-setup my network. Is there a way to reset Airport to the way it was before i installed the update?
    Thanks

"Is there a way to reset Airport to the way it was before i installed the update?"
Of course you can erase your hard drive and reinstall up to 10.4.7, and not go any higher. The problem is the 10.4.8 update, or some part of it. The many other updates recently posted for different apps are not part of the cause, so those updates can be installed.
"Is there something that i can do so i'm not constantly moving the files around and having to re-setup my network."
Yes, once you've followed the "restart twice" instructions involving preference file deletion, it appears that by turning off AirPort before letting it sleep, restart, or shut down, those two files will not get the same corruption recreated. Afterwards, you should be able to turn on AirPort and after a slight delay of about six to eight seconds AirPort will be able to reacquire your network.
If you forget to turn off AirPort before sleep, restart, or shutdown, then those files will again be corrupted and you'll have to go through the process all over again. I ran through it about 50 times, changing this and that, and that's all I could come up with.
Hopefully someone else out there with a different perspective will be able to figure out what else needs to be done.

  • Starting All Over With OS X and Safari After Update And Crashes

I had posted my troubles in the Safari Section under the same title and got fabulous advice. I was just starting the process of following this advice so that I could get my mac back up from 10.4.7 to 10.4.11 since the genius' at the bar at Apple had re-installed the OS to fix the crashing Safari, Mail and Software update apps.
The advice suggested starting with a permissions repair and a disk verify. Well disk verify may well have come up with the cause for my computer going foobar upon installing the last Apple update in the first place. (Incredible that the Genius Bar guys missed this, especially the week before when I had taken my Mac Mini in for a Procare "Tune-Up." I wonder what the H-E Double Hockey Sticks they did if they didn't verify the disk in the tune-up? Wouldn't that have saved me all manner of distress and trouble!) Here is what verify gave me:
    Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
    Checking HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Invalid index key
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
So..I will need to, if I understand this correctly, re-start from my install disc holding down the C key and then go to disk utility. I have never done this before and really would like some one to walk me through the procedure.
Just to remind or get you up to speed. I have a mac mini that had been bought with 10.3.7 on it and had been updated all the way to 10.4.11 and Safari 3.0.4 but after the last Java, Quicktime, and Security update Safari, Mail, and Software Update all crashed repeatedly. Genius Bar at Apple got them working again by re-installing the OS but put in 10.4.7 and with it Safari 2.0.4. Now I will need to repair the start up disk. Do I use the Mac Mini "Mac OS X install disc 1 and Apple Hardware Test" disc or do I use the "Mac OS X Tiger" disc that I bought to upgrade my Mac from Panther to Tiger? I think the former rather than the latter but I am uncertain and would really like to know exactly what I need to do before proceeding. Please help!
Then.. what do I do after I re-start using the install disc and have gone to Disk Utility. Will it then darken the "repair" button under "disk," and allow me to click on that to repair the disk? What will that do to the applications and documents that I have in the mac. I actually have my iTunes and iPhoto libraries on external hard drives and are backed-up on yet another external hard drive. I think everything is backed-up. I will perform another back-up before I do anything anyway. Do I leave the externals on and connected while doing the re-start using the install disc or do I disconnect them?
As you can tell, this makes me rather nervous. Thank you so much for any help you can offer! -Charlotte

Hi. Sorry for the delay in responding; Holidays as you know. Anyway... Thanks for your advice.
Yes, I put in the Tiger install disc and holding the c key restarted the computer. Went to Disk Utility and ran Repair Disk. Did it twice as you suggested. The first time it said that there was nothing to repair which was a complete surprise. Ran the verify again and ran Repair Disk again. Each time the report shows no problems. After booting back into the main internal hard drive, I ran disk verify again and it reports no problems.
Someone else on a different post on this subject (I accidently posted this in two different places) stated that the Apple Disk Utility Repair would not be able to make this repair and I would have to get Disk Warrior to make the repair. If Disk Verify reports no problems, wouldn't this mean that running the Repair Disk did repair it?
After all this I went to Apple's site and got the combo update and ran Software Update and gotten my little ppc Mac Mini back up to 10.4.11 and Safari 3.0.4. (I ran permissions repair after the updates as well.) I did not, however, download the last Security Update, as some posters have suggested that I avoid it. What do you think of the Security Update 2007-009? Would this be safe to download and install, now that my mac seems to have had it's directory repaired? Thanks so much. -Charlotte

Last month I updated my Itunes to 11.1.5 and after I updated it. NONE of my Apple products is detectable by Itunes and it's really annoying because I can't update my playlist.
I have followed all this steps given by the apple website and NONE OF THEM WORKED.
    1. Update iTunes
    2. Check the USB cable
    3. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    4. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service
    5. Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed
    6. Check for third-party software conflicts

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR suitable for your PC (there's a 32-bit Windows version and a 64-bit Windows version):
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, see if iTunes will launch without the error now.
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
