Apple ID is not an email address so iCloud doesn't recognize it.

My current Apple ID is not an email address.  When I try to set up iCloud using my current ID, it automatically adds the "me.com" after it and that is not my actual ID.  What can I do to rectify this? Should I change my ID to an email?  I have a mobileme account, but I can't use that email address for some reason.  I've emailed apple a few times and they can't seem to be able to answer me.

Here's my situation, and what I have discovered:
My family shares one Apple ID for our iTunes purchases. We have two iPhones, two iPads and an iPod touch all running iOS 5 between us. The 'master' Apple ID, that we all use for iTunes, is my e-mail address. I created a separate Apple ID (their own e-mail addresses) for each individual in the family, which is used to connect to the iCloud for the purposes of syncing and backing up to the iCloud.
The only odd configuration I have found is that each device that I set up with a different Apple ID for the iCloud, also retains an iCloud mail account with the 'master' Apple ID. The e-mail address (the 'master' Apple ID) for this iCloud mail account (called 'iCloud') cannot be changed, although the account can be deleted (which I don't want to try because I don't know the consequences). The only thing I have enabled in this iCloud account is 'Find My iPhone/iPod' so all my family's devices can be seen in the Find My iPhone app using my 'master' Apple ID.
Using this setup we have been able to maintain our own Contacts and Calendars, all synced to iCloud using our individual Apple IDs.

Made new account as per instruction ie [email protected] works fine
BUT as I want to utilise the money spent on the additional memory it would be great to use the initial account set up as my primary HOWEVER as far as I have tried the initial apple ID CANNOT be changed. Bit confused actually any usefull guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have a iPhone 4S and it's running IOS7.  My Apple ID is not an email address.  I have an email attached to the Apple ID, which is the same as my iCloud ID.  How do I sync music and photos onto my iPhone?

Thanks for the reply.  However, that will not work.  It gives you the option to merge your ID into your primary email address, but the function is not working.  I have seen some other discussions where people are having the same frustrations.  Also, if you have used your primary email for anything else, it wont let you edit your ID to that.  It will say it is already in use.

I can't change my Apple ID.  It would mess all my stuff up.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're using iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Apple ID will not accept email address

PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I GO SPARE!!!!
Have updated my iPad to latest OS. When turning on for first time it is asking for my Apple ID and password. Enter these and fine to move on (noting that my Apple ID here is NOT my email address).
Next screen is called "Update Apple ID" and asks for an email address. I put in my email address that is linked to my account when using the "appleid.apple.com" website, but it now complains and will not let me continue. Error message is: "Try another Apple ID. This Apple ID is already being used. If this is your account, reset a forgotten password at iforgot.apple.com"
There seems no way around this. I have been through the reset password that was suggested, but only thing I've been able to achieve is now having a password that is different to all other ones I use and will now most likely get forgotten!  Even through the "appleid.apple.com" it will not let me change my Apple ID to my email address as it states that it is already in use (call me stupid, but I know it's in use, it me!!).
So I'm completely stuck in a closed loop with no escape. HELP!!!!!
"if" I had previously created a user with my email address, then surely the system would not have allowed me to set my email address to be the same as that other user. However, I don't recollect creating that user, and what's more, I cannot log in to that account as I can't guess the password. I've even tried getting the system to send me a reset password for that account, but it then simply resets MY password for MY account, which, as mentioned above, is beyond a joke.
Apple need to get their heads around passwords / email addresses / apple id's - if they have tightened up the security policies, then there are some loose ends that need correcting. I can't even see anywhere that would let me delete an unwanted apple id account.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks, a very very frustrated user!

Not trying to step on Philly's toes on this one - but If Philly's suggestion doesn't work, I would contact Apple. There have been a few reports of this Apple ID problem after updating the iOS in the past few days. Personally, I don't get it. If the Apple ID worked before the update, there is no reason why it should not work after the update.

  • HT204053 my apple id is not an email address

When I try to log in to iCloud, it asks for my Apple ID and password.  My apple ID was set long before an email address was required as an id.  Therefore, I cannot log on to iCloud.  Is there a fix for this?  If I set up a new Apple ID, then I have to maintain 2 accounts to not lose past purchases as I have been told that 2 itunes accounts cannot be combined.

Can I use an Apple ID that isn't an email address to sign up for an iCloud account?
No. Your Apple ID must be a full email address (e.g. [email protected]) in order to sign up for an iCloud account. You can change your existing Apple ID to be in the format of an email address if it is not already at appleid.apple.com.

  • My apple ID is not an email address.

After updating my iphone it won't let me sign in without email address apple ID.  When I enter my email address it says it is already in use with another apple ID...which is mine I assume, since that email is associated with my original apple ID.  I read one thread that said you can go in to iTunes and edit your ID.  When I try to do this it won't take my email as my apple ID because it is the email address already associated with the account.  Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks for the reply.  However, that will not work.  It gives you the option to merge your ID into your primary email address, but the function is not working.  I have seen some other discussions where people are having the same frustrations.  Also, if you have used your primary email for anything else, it wont let you edit your ID to that.  It will say it is already in use.

  • Apple ID is not an email address

Cannot establish icloud account because apple ID is not an e-mail address.  Cannot change apple ID to email accound because apple tells me its in use (by me!)

That message normally means that the email address is already associated with an ID.  If you feel you received this message in error, contact the Apple account security team and have them take a look at your ID to see if they can tell you what's going on: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699.

  • My Apple Id is not an email address but I've already used my email address for an ID many, many years ago. How do I delete it?

Is it possible to delete an old account I made so I can use that email address Apple ID as my new Apple ID for my currently email-less used Apple ID?
    Then I can use iCloud.

You can keep your current ID for itunes store - that is a different account than icloud.  Look here, there might be some useful info...

How do I get the password for an old apple ID when I dont have access to the email address and it does not recognize my birthdate?

    Hi Attila528,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are not able to receive a rescue email to reset your security questions and password:
You'll need to contact iTunes Store support to have your questions and answers reset.
You can find the article with this information here:
Rescue email address and how to reset Apple ID security questions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
After your password, security questions and answers are reset, I'd recommend providing a new rescue email address:
You can edit or delete your rescue email address at My Apple ID. To edit your rescue email address:
Navigate to My Apple ID using your web browser.
    Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
    Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • My apple id is not working on icloud because it is not in email address format.   how can i change my apple id to email format so icloud can work?

Hello - I just purchased an iPhone 4s and would like to use iCloud but my apple id is not in email address format so when i try to sign into iCloud it won't let me use my apple id.  i tried to change my apple id through my account settings but could not find a way to do that.  i found ways to change everything else in my settings but when i pushed on the edit button to change my apple id the page didn't change.  Not sure how i can get to use iCloud?  Please help.

  • My longtime Apple ID is not an email. Can I use it?

My Apple ID is not an email address. Is there any way to keep this for an iCloud account, or must I set up a new account with an acutal address?
I see this as fraught with problems since I will have two apple IDs for my iPhone.

My iTunes/iPhone ID is the same ID I use here, and for all Apple related matter, i.e. all my Mac product registrations, etc.
Wanted to use it for everything.
I had problems when I set up a new an iCloud Apple ID using an email address as my username (required) as it resulted in sync problems. It somehow became the primary iPhone ID and I ended upn with apps purchased on the phone that wouldn't sync to the desktop iTunes.

  • IPhone - Upgrade to Software Version 5.0 - Apple ID Must be an email address

I was prompted to upgrade my iPhone to version 5.0 this morning and did. After some time, a message said that my phone had been restored to factory settings. The next message said that it would restore from a recent back up. It did. The message now says "Restore Completed" but there's a Continue button that asks for some information, including my Apple ID.
My Apple ID is not an email address. It is requiring me sign in with an Apple ID that is an email address. If I put in an email address...will all my purchases from the iTunes store be associated with that Apple ID? How can they be when they are associated with another account? Will I lose access to them? Will I have 2 Apple IDs?
    Help.
    Thanks.
