Apple ID no longer accepts password

Thank you Apple.
Thank you for changing my password for me. So, I was one of the first on board to get an iPhone. At the time, I had an email address that I used for everything and I naturally used it to sign up for app purchases. All was good. Then, the domain for the email address I used was hijacked. I continued to use it cause... why not? Sure Apple might send communications to that address, but I was using it as a login name. I had my login name and my password. Nothing changed. Happy, happy. For years, all was good. Then...
Recently, Apple decided to "insist" on me having an uppercase in my password. Well, my passwords are random and this particular password happened not to have had an uppercase letter. No worries though. I'll just log in and change... oh wait... I can't. Because Apple won't let me login with a password without an uppercase letter. Nice. But it's okay because they offer a password reset... oh. But it's cool, because I can just update my email... ahhhhh. Who forces password changes and doesn't accept the previous password in order to log in to do so? Apparently Apple?
After much grumbling, I create a new account. Who care, right? I get over it and now I'm able to download apps again. But wait... I can't update apps purchased on my old account because these two accounts aren't linked together. What the...???? So I was an early adopter, purchased a lot of apps in the store and now because Apple gets a stick in their rear, forcing my password to change, I can no longer get free updates?
I have read countless forums about similar issues and I've tried all to no avail (none that I have found have worked). So... when did Apple become the new Microsoft? Probably when they started rolling out hardware and policy changes faster than a company their size should. I remember a time when they held on to software and hardware until they found all or most of these sorts of logic loops. Now they're having hardware, software and IP legal issues all over the place (*caugh*mapping*caugh*).
I try not to get into pointless arguments with a wall because Zeus knows they'll eventually tell me to drive it 200 miles to an Apple store and pay to have it looked at. So ranting aside, any ideas? Here are the factors again:
I have an old Apple ID with an old email address ("email A") and an old password ("password A") used to purchase tons of apps over the last few years
I don't have access to that old email address ("email A")
Apple changed the password protocols so that my old password ("password A") doesn't work or isn't accepted as a "standard Apple password" anymore
I created a new Apple ID with a new email address ("email B") and a new "Apple-approved" password ("password B")
I can download NEW apps with the NEW Apple ID
Because of all of the above circumstances, I can no longer update OLD apps with the OLD Apple ID OR with the NEW Apple ID (since their change)
I spent a lot of money on apps and I should be able to get continued free updates for them (this isn't the software developer's fault)
Any ideas?
Seriously... forcing a password format to an existing account? Thank you Apple.

kitty-mom,
Maybe some help here.

  • Password apple id, no longer accepted in mail iphone ipad devices

my Mail app in iphone and ipad doesn't accept password anymore. it was working for years.
i read instruction and forums , i've changed password Apple twice, both changes have been accepted, but the problem seems to be my in the ios devices.
As soon as i change putting in the new passwords in Cloud section and Mail section , they are recognised but if i get in again i've noticed the system keep the old one automatically. i did it a million times. no way to make regular new id Apple password accepted.
    Somebody can help ?
Thank you in advance, to me is bad issue, to be stuck with mails me.com, since i use it for work.

Yes, I have tried Apple - My Info, but to have my password emailed to me I need to have access to my main mac email account. I can't sign on to that account, as it won't accept my password. Option 2, where they ask my secret question, won't accept anything I offer, either. I have tried so many variations that now I am locked out of the account (again!) for too many tries. I have used the same PW and riceramblz@mac. account since it began. Been to the genius bar, been on the phone to AppleCare. No one apparently knows what to do.

My Apple TV will not accept the password to my Homesharing

    Hello dstalk
It sounds like you are being asked to setup Home Sharing. If that is correct, check out the article below. If the password is not working, verify that you can log in with it at appleid.apple.com and change it if necessary. If it for Netflix, check out the 3rd article for additional support.

  • IMac will no longer accept password...

    Hi everyone,
Had an issue with my Mid 2011 iMac model recently. I am selling it so I attempted to erase my hard disk. I was told I can only do this once I have reinstalled the Snow Leopard operating system in which I received in disc form when I publshed the original iMac. So I reinstalled Snow Leopard (and it appeared to work) but before the desktopcame up a blue screen appeared asking me to log-in to my account. I done this, but it is not acceping my password, it is completley rejecting me. The correct password hint appears and that is correct, but aside from that it is not accepting my password.
Does anyone have the idea what the problem is? I would grealty appeciate the help!
    Calum.

It appears that you did not erase your hard drive before installing Snow Leopard.

  • ICloud backup has old non-email Apple ID, no longer have password

I'm unable to restore my iPhone 4/iOS 6.1.3 backup to my new iPhone 5/iOS 7.0
    Using my new iPhone 5s:
    1. In the Set up your iPhone screen, tap Restore from iCloud Backup.
    2. In in iCloud Sign In screen, I enter my email-based Apple ID and Password, then tap Return.
    3. In the Terms and Conditions screen, tap Agree. In the Terms and Conditions popup dialog, tag Agree again.
    4. In the Choose Backup screen, choose LATEST IPHONE BACKUP (Yesterday, iPhone (iPhone 4)).
The iPhone 5 now asks me for the the Apple ID password for my old, non-email Apple ID. When I enter the password for my current, email-based Apple ID, I get an alert: Could Not Sign In: Your Apple ID or password is incorrect.
I'm unable to reset my password using http://appleid.apple.com. When I use the email authentication approach, I never receive the email. When I use the Answer Security Questions approach, it prompts me for the montd, day and year of my birth. When I enter these, I get this message: The authentication information provided does not match our records. Please verify your personal information and try again.
So apparently my old iPhone 4 is backing itself up using an iCloud account that uses my current email-based Apple ID, but somehow the backups it saves use my old, non-email-based Apple ID, so I can't use them to restore to another device.
I'm not sure what I should try next. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have exactly this issue. A few years ago I changed my Apple ID. No problem then or since then. But today when I try to restore my new iphone 5S from an existing back up - a back up which I created from my iphone 4 just a minute before using the same iCloud/Apple ID - it defaults to an old Apple ID (that I can't change) so when I enter my password (which is actually the same password as for the old Apple ID) it says can't restore from back up (specifically items purchased from iTunes) because the Apple ID and/or password is incorrect. I am like 'yeah, it's incorrect because you have defaulted to the wrong Apple ID doofus'. Any ideas?

  • AirPort Extreme no longer accepting password

We have a Windows 7 PC, iPhone, iTouches (2) and Mac and WiFi printer. Until yesterday, everything was routing fine through the AirPort to our Comcast internet connection. Now the Airport won't accept anything but the Mac.  Password is correct, but iPhone and iTouches can't get through.  PC gets nowhere.  Printer useless.  Help!

When changing ISPs (or networking equipment) it's always a good idea to start from "scratch" in configuring your equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
(OPTIONAL) While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.

  • I can log-in here okay; Apple TV won't accept password

My password to get on Apple TV won't work, and YES, it's the right one; I don't know what to try.  HELP!

It does not sound like you are loggin into the Netflix app.  What are you clicking on.
Says make sure on same internet. Which it is. Very frustrating.
I am guessing you mean it says make sure you are on the same network.  Everyone is on the same internet.  And that error message would not come up for the Netflix sign in.  That would happen if you were on the home sharing or iTunes screen.

Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off"

  • Can no longer open anything without finder asking for password verification, but not accepting password

I plugged in an external DVD/CD burner but finder won't let me use it, and a message comes up saying "Finder wants to make changes, type your password to allow this' however, when I type my password it will no longer accept it and has an error code -128 message come up. I can also now not do anything on the desktop without the same finder password verification request happening. Have tried restarting the computer twice with no luck. Running system OSX10.8.2

This might be a rare case in which Repair Permissions in Disk Utility is worth a try.

  • I did re-set my password and when I click on Install for Mavericks, I still get a box for "administrator password" and it still won't accept my new password. Is there a difference between my Apple ID and the administrator password they're asking for?

I downloaded Mavericks and it won't install. I did re-set my password and when I click on Install for Mavericks, I still get a box for "administrator password" and it still won't accept my new password. Is there a difference between my Apple ID and the administrator password they're asking for? I never had an administrator password-- I just hit enter and have never had a problem before with previous installations. I'm on an iMac, from 2007, running Mt. Lion (version 10.8.5). I've been looking for other's posts who may be having the same problem, but haven't found any. Can anyone help?

Ugh. The 'no password, no work' thing is a recent Apple development. I ran into it on my system and ended up having to do a clean install on a partition I fully erased.
I suppose, if you have the ability to, go online and look up how to burn a bootable DVD image. Download the 10.8.4 image then use the Disk Utility to make a boot image of it. You'll need a dual-layer DVD or a USB drive (or memory stick at least 8GB) If you've got an optical drive, burn the disk, if you've a USB device, use that.
Then get a pocket drive and copy your important files off the system or let Time Machine do a full backup.
When the backup is done, insert the disk and hold down the C key until the machine boots off of the DVD. At the point you get to the start window, go to the menu and choose the Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility, reformat the drive. You go to the actual DRIVE (not the Macintosh HD, but the root above it that is the actual hard drive device)
I always do this and *partition* it into several volumes, the benefit being, you can store all of your music, documents and importans stuff on that secondary storage volume you make - it will have it's own index and then the first volume is where you put the OS and it will have it's own index as well. That way, if the OS throws a wobbler and you need to reinstall, you don't lose your data.
Depending on the size of your hard drive, it is good to give your OS partition at least 60GB and optimally 100GB, and the rest for storage.
Name your volumes, use the little box sliders to manually size them or put that number in the size window, select for the format, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and hit Apply and then the Disk Utility will quickly create your new partitions.
Once finished, quit the Utility and it will return you to the OS installer. Select the volume you want to install to and it should start up and install.
Once the installation is done, you'll get the new machine startup then you MUST put in a password for the computer. Once you're in, and to the desktop, don't bother with any Mountain Lion updates, go right to the App Store and get the Mavericks update and let it install the app to your Applicaitons folder, then do that install.
On a side note, there MAY be a way to make a disk image from the Mavericks application and avoid the entire Mountain Lion step.. I honestly do not know, but a bit of hitting the search engines may find out if there is. I think that if you looked for "make Mavericks boot disk or boot image' you may find something.
    Good luck!
