Apple ID/Rescue Email help!

I need to change my Apple ID because the email that is being used right now is no longer available. However, the email address I need to use is my rescue email. When I login, it is saying there is a verification email being sent, but it is being sent to the email address that I don't have access to. How can I change my rescue email in order to change my Apple ID? I have read that there should be a "password and security tab on the left side, but it doesn't show up. The email verification shows up instead. Please help!

You said the old one was no longer available. Is it still shown as the main address? If so, does it have the edit button to the right of the Apple ID?
What is the rescue email? Is it a .me address? Is it listed as an alternate in the manage account page I sent?

Did you change the ID in Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Apple ID? Tap the old ID and sign out and then sign in with the new one. If not running iOS 6 it will be Settings>Stores>Apple ID.

How do I create a rescue email address with in my Apple ID account?

If you know the answers to your security questions then follow steps 1 to 5 half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from, they will let you add one.
If you can't remember your answers then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset before you can then add a rescue email address for potential future use.

The apple ID email is completely wrong to the point where ive never owned that email address. I cant change that email because my security questions are from 7 years ago so how do i fix this problem?

I am not receiving the "rescue email" on my primary ID

Looks like I forgot my password on my primary Apple ID (using one of my kids' right now) and I am not receiving the "rescue emails" after it says they've been sent.
So I tried to guess the password too many times and now Im locked out till later this evening.

Jeez Apple: How many email addresses do I have to have!!!!

Put this here as I couldn't see a forum that deals with Apple ID so, iTunes, IOS, Mountain Lion?? No idea.
Anyway, I started the process to migrate to iCloud mail accounts (I already use iCloud for calendar sync etc) as I've never really liked Gmail's IMAP and I only ever use it's web interface to go and sort out one of the countless glitches I have when trying to get Gmail IMAP to work well with different Mac/IOS mail clients. Must admit I was quite disappointed to find that I could not then use my iCloud email address as my Apple ID.
I can understand the desirability of having a secondary non-iCloud email address as a secondary address too, esp if Apple needs to contact you in the event of service issues. But I do find it a PITA that my Apple ID rescue email address needs to be different to my Apple ID and my rescue email!! Why for God's sake?? I only want one secondary email address, the same address I'd like to use to rescue my ID details!!! But no, now I need a THIRD email address!!
I can understand a non Apple email address being desirable (albeit I'd still like to be able to use my iCloud email address as my Apple ID) but forcing me to maintain a third email address????? Come on!!!!

I have no "Rescue email" contact in order to reset my security questions!! I've been trying now for 4 days to contact Apple/Itunes but I only get sent answers from a support team that say they cannot help me with my problem!!
The thing is that I can't ever remember answering any security questions and without a rescue email, I'm unable to reset them or even set them for the first time!!
I can't believe that no-one from Apple/Itunes can help me with this simple problem but unfortunately that is the case - Incredible, isn't it!!!
Would anyone know how I could solve this problem online??? Because each time I sign into Itunes, the same security questions reappear and reappear and reappear. In fact I've got to the point where I feel like uninstalling Itunes and downloading an alternative.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

I feel like I'm in an infinite loop. I have all of the information correct except my security questions -- I set them up quickly and forgot what I answered. Per the FAQs on Apple's website, I should be able to get a rescue email that allows me to reset the answers to the questions, however all I get is a rescue email to reset my password. this does not help. I have forgotten ALL of the answers to my security questions. I can NOT reset the answers to my security questions without answering two of the three security questions. The other way to reset the answers to these questions is for apple to send me an email on my rescue email addres which I DO NOT HAVE.
