Apple ID's, iPods and combining accounts

Recently bought a new Mac Mini. When I plugged in my iPod it said that it couldn't transfer my apps from iTunes because it didn't recognize the iPod, so I signed in. A few days later I updated my iTunes old e-mail address to my Apple ID, because I no longer use that old e-mail address. I got a confirmation that said it was changed successfully. I thought that was the end of it but then around a week later it said the same thing (that it couldn't transfer my apps from iTunes because it didn't recognize the iPod). I went round and round trying to fix it, and finally ended up calling Apple. They said that my iPod wants to log in to my Apple ID account but it can't because iTunes doesn't recognize Apple ID's. This surprised me. So now, apparently, I have two accounts for iTunes (my old one, which I guess didn't change after all, and my Apple ID account, which Apple claims I can't use). I'd like to combine them into one. Again, according to Apple you cannot do this but that doesn't sound right and I'm hoping that I just talked to a new iTunes phone rep. I mean, why would Apple not allow us to use our Apple ID's and combine two accounts into one account? This doesn't sound right to me.
If anyone knows how to fix this PLEASE post and let me know. I'll try anything...

The AppleID and iTunes Store account are one and the same.
Item #1 on the page I linked:
An Apple ID lets you personalize your Apple experience. Once you've created an Apple ID, you'll use it to access Apple resources that need you to identify yourself. Examples of places where you can use your Apple ID:
+ Apple Online Store
+ iTunes Store
+ Concierge (for appointments at Genius Bar)
+ Apple Online Support (apple.com/support)
+ iChat
+ iPhoto and Aperture Purchases
+ iWork Publishing (publish.iwork.com)
+ MobileMe
And as for merging, andser was further down the page:
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to consolidate them into a single Apple ID?
Sorry, but this is not possible at this time via our online tools. You can speak with an AppleCare representative, who can help you consolidate your registered Apple products. They can also help register your iPods, iPhones, or Mac computers under a single Apple ID.

Home sharing only allows you to stream content from a computer's iTunes to an iOS device or another computer (and to copy from the computer to another computer), you can't use it to copy items to an iOS device.
If the apps are still in your country's store then you should be able to redownload them on your iPad via the Purchased tab in the App Store app on it, and for music (if you are in a country where music purchases can be redownloaded and they are still in the store) then you can redownload them via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPad. Or you can copy them from your iPod to your computer's iTunes library by connecting it and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option and then sync them to your iPad.

  • Apple "fixed" my ipod and returned it Windows formatted

Apple "fixed" my ipod and returned it Windows formatted - is there any way to get it back to Mac formatted so it can get updates?

Restore it on your Mac. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • How to change 2 ipods and one account

When I plugged in my new ipod touch, I thought that it would ask me to create a new itunes account but instead it just copied everything from our other account.  So now we have two ipods with the same name and account.  How can I erase what's on the new ipod and create it's own itunes account without erasing the content on the other ipod?  Does that make sense?  thanks!!

  • Question re: email from Apple:  "Welcome to iPod and iTunes."

I was curious as to why, when I received my "Welcome to iPod and iTunes" email (after registering my Ipod Nano), the email shows 3 different serial numbers...
    I only bought 1.
    Just wondering...

You can check your Junk/Spam folders, sometimes the e-mail gets sent there. Also, double check that the primary e-mail address in your Apple ID account is hers. If none of this works, I suggest to wait it out, sometimes it can take up to 24 hours!

  • Apple broke my iPod and refused to fix it, What should I do?

Sometime around the end of September, I downloaded iTunes version 5.0 (I believe). The first time I opened it, it told me I needed to download the software updater for my iPod mini. So I downloaded the Software Updater, then the problems started.
This was two months ago, so I don't remember exactly everything that happened.
I clicked "Update" from the choices, and it was updating my iPod. Then the program froze. I eventually closed it, and my iPod had that file folder icon with the ! on the display. I ran the Updater again, and it froze again. I went to the website, and tried everything, even selecting "Refresh" from the software updater, and it froze again.
The software updater broke my iPod.
So I sent it in for service one month later. I would have sent it in sooner, but when I saw they were going to charge me $30 for shipping to fix their mistake, I was outraged, and sent them an e-mail. They never replied.
So I sent my iPod, and they sent it back unfixed. Over the course of three weeks, I sent them maybe four e-mails, and it took them that long to reply. They told me they have the right to refuse service on any iPod.
And if that wasn't bad enough...
I can't uninstall iTunes off my computer. I want everything Apple-related off my computer, but they did something so I can never get rid of iTunes, I know it.
I'm a young college student. I can't afford to buy another MP3 player. I think Apple, a multi-billion dollar company, can pay to fix my iPod that their program broke.
    I just don't get it...

SO you waited a month, got more ticked off and then decided to send it in for $30?
Yes. I know that sounds stupid, but they didn't reply to my e-mail, so I eventually succumbed to their wicked practices and sent it in with a service request.
Do you meanit didn't work or did they tell you they did nothing to it?
There was a letter saying they didn't fix it, and to call a phone number if I had questions. The phone number was just a recording of the letter they sent.
They told you the warranty was void because of something you did to the iPod?
I sent it in for the ! file folder problem, and they didn't fix that. I don't know why.
Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs
    Yeah, no kidding.
I've tried that a few times, and the Uninstall program never comes up.
So I downloaded the new version of iTunes, figuring I would try to uninstall the new version. But I can't install the new version. Error #1627 or something.
Have you tried all the links on the iPod Service and Support page?
Yes. When I first got the file folder icon, I did everything on the site. Tried resetting it, and nothing happened. Tried putting it in disk mode, but nothing happened. Left it plugged in for hours. Did it while it was plugged in, nothing. Unplugged it and tried again, nothing.
It's been unused for nearly 2 months now.
I just want them to fix it. Is that so much to ask? Their program caused the stupid ! folder icon to come up and keep my iPod from working. Yet they refuse to help me. It took them 3 weeks to answer my e-mail, and all they did was send me the same form letter I got with my returned iPod, and on the phone.
I swear, I am never buying another Apple product as long as I live. Awful awful customer service. You can't even get a human response out of anyone.

  • New Apple ID on iPod and Itunes, will this delete my music?

I bought an iPod with my brother to share but now I am the only one that uses it because he bought his own iPad. My iPod is set up under his apple id and so is the itunes on my computer. I would like to set up the iPad and my itunes under my own apple id to avoid the hasle of constantly asking him for the id and password so i can download apps? Can i do this without having all my music and app on my itunes being deleted?

    - Go to settings>iTunes and App Stores and sign out and sign into your account.
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

  • Changing ipod and itunes accounts

    Hello all,
My son has an IPod 5 that is linked to my ITunes account.  I have only ever had one ITunes account and that worked great for a while.  Now that he is getting older he wanted to be able to text and Face time with his friends and every time that he does I am getting all of the messages and calls ion my IPhone.  I would like to split his IPod off from my account without loosing any of the games or game data that he has on the IPod.
Any advice that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

  • I have tried suggestions found on this website from other Ipod Classic users without success. I cannot get my Ipod Classic to sync any more - have tried on 3 computers with different OS's. Apple have tested Ipod and its lead and pronounced it OK.

This is the third time of writing this on your Apple Support Communities!  My Ipod Classic will not sync.  I have had it checked over at an Apple Genius Bar and also its lead - they say it is OK.   I have had my computer checked at the place that built it for me (Windows 7 desktop when I found Windows 8 childish and irritating).  After collecting it, I again had the Ipod symbol back on my library page, which was a step forward.  However, the Ipod still won't sync.
I have tried other USB ports.  I have tried removing Itunes from computer and downloading it again - with the latest version of course.  I have tried authorising my computer.   I have tried resetting the Ipod.  I have tried ringing the Apple helpline at vast expense - the first assistant was helpful and went through a number of procedures before suggesting I removed and replaced Itunes and then rang back after doing this.  I was given a reference number to quote so that I wouldn't need to go through the whole rigmarole again with another assistant.  But, unfortunately, I got an extremely offensive young man who more or less called me a liar when I quoted the job number I had been given.  He flatly refused to accept that I had already spent ages on the phone that afternoon and said that my last call to Apple, to which the reference number referred, had been in November 2011.  When I asked to speak to a manager, he put the phone down for ages and left me paying for minutes, just waiting.  I put the phone down eventually and rang back, got this person again, and again asked to speak to a manager, whereupon the phone was put down on me.  Needless to say, I am not keen to try this phone service again in a hurry.  But I do desperately want to be able to download my Economist in audio podcasts, which I have been without for a whole month now.  Please can someone knowledgeable take pity and help me?  By the way, what does IOS mean? (I thought IO stood for operating system, but am flummoxed by the S on the end.  I have a newly built computer using Windows 7, the latest updated version.

Not with your current user id.
Far too much uneccesary information in your post, which only confuses things, a vast amount!
    Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

    Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do.

  • 2 ipods and itunes accounts on one computer

We have one computer in our home, and it has multiple accounts.  My iTouch is synced with my iTunes account and my nephews iTouch is synced with his iTunes account.  I was in the process of updating his ipod for him so he could use the features on his iPod like I do.  However, ituens was telling me that only one iTunes account can have the download feature active at a time.  (My iTunes/iPod allows my purchases from either the computer or iPod to automatically download on the other without having to use the file/transfer purchases option)  Is there anyway for both iPods/iTunes accounts to have these features?
    Thank you.

  • What is the best way to configure my iPods and user accounts?

I'm looking for a little guidance. Here is my situation:
I am running the latest version of Tiger. It is currently configured with three accounts; mine is the admin. account and each of my two children have their own accounts.
My account is the one that is used most of the time. All of our calendars in iCal are maintained here including one for each of the kids. Each of the kids has their own Contacts list in the Address Book as well. I currently have a 5G 30GB iPod Video that I sync with iTunes through this account. Shortly, I will be buying an iPod Touch. I want my 30 GB iPod to be the one that has everything on it; it will be the one we take in the car on trips for music. I want the Touch to have some, but not necessarily all, of my music and all of our calendars and contact information. I am looking to use it to replace my Palm as my PDA.
My son has a 2G Nano which currently syncs through his account.
My daughter will be getting a 3G Nano soon.
I will also be upgrading to Leopard very soon.
Ultimately, I would like each of the kids to have their own iTunes libraries for music and podcasts and to sync their iCal calendars. As I understand it, however, they cannot access their calendars from their own accounts under my current arrangement. I also understand that there are several ways to configure my Mac to work with multiple iPods.
Given all of this, what is the best thing for me to do? Should I set up all of the kids' iPods to sync through the admin. account so they can get their calendars at the same time? Or is their some way for them to have access to their calendar information from their own accounts under Tiger (or Leopard)? And as far as my two iPods (the Video and the Touch), should they sync through separate libraries, or through one using playlists. I also want to minimize duplicate data wherever possible, be it music or records in iCal and the Address Book.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice!

My two sons each have an ipod.  Can they both be on the same account and share what they buy?

    Yes.

  • Ive been using the same ipod and same account for awhile now and all of a sudden my itunes account doesnt recognize my ipod anymore. how can i fix this problem without deleting my ipod and resyncing?

can somebody explain to me why my itunes library wont recognize my ipod anymore. and can somebody help me fix it without having to delete all 951 of my files and resyncing it?

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
