Apple ID's

Here's a means to deal with the 2 Apple ID problem. It's not necessarily a solution; it's a message to Apple.
Background: The old MobileMe, iTunes, and iCloud accounts do not get along. This is because iTunes used one Apple ID for purchases, and MobileMe another, which was always the @me.com or @mac.com email address.
Along comes iCloud and it insists that the @me.com adress is its own Apple ID, and al devices and iCloud apps or content services must and can only sync to a device running that account. This does not mean you cannot use your content from the old iTunes Apple ID on your device if it is authorized, but many push, sunc, in-App opurchases, or auto-update featreus cannot work unless you make the effort to log-out of your iCloud Apple ID and log-in to iTunes with your iTunes Apple ID.
This 2 Apple ID confusion is maddening. Originally .Mac/MobileMe were Mac-only service with no relationship to iTunes. Since iTunes was a broad service extending into the world of PC's and Windows, it did not tie its accounts (Apple ID's) to a specific Apple-generated email address. this is probably why @mac.com was replace with the less Macentric @me.com.
Here's a way to get the message to Apple that this transition is creating all sorts of problems for those with older iTunes and .Mac/MobileMe Apple ID's:
Using iTunes, log in to the Apple ID you DO NOT WANT in the future. This will be the Apple ID with the email address different than the one you use for iCloud. Duoble-check.
If you do not have an iTunes account with your iCloud name then you are safe and free to make one that is identical. Stop reading any further.
Once you've logged into your iTunes account (which is just the account attached to your Apple ID), go to Purchase History.
Identify all purchases in an invoice (each sepaarte line item is an invoice) and click Report a Problem.
Always choose the LAST item in the pulldown menu. This is the catch-all, generic problem.
Type in (or modify as you see fit), then click Done. Repeat for every paid item:
This item downloaded to the wrong account. For syncing with iCloud I need it to be on my iCloud account which is Apple ID [email protected]. Thank-you.
I did this on a trial basis and recieved a transfer. I have now reported all 400 paid items from my non-iCloud account witht the above request. It took a bit of time, but I feel it may achieve what I require.
It only works with paid items: apps or media content. Anything free or an in-app purchase does not work and will bump you to a webpage. For free items find your email invoices and print those, then re-download them again.
But here's the catch. Apple has to respond to every one of those requests. If an app costs $0.99 then Apple takes $0.33. responding to every "Report a Problem". For every $0.99 app will use more labor costs than the app made for Apple. Same for songs.
Apple offers great products and services, but this ping-pong game with .Mac, MobileMe, iTunes, and now iCloud is a major problem because it diminsishes the capabilities of our invested hardware when we cannot sync across Apple ID's. The most loyal Apple customers were those early adopters who, like myself, find we cannot utilize all our apps and content because we cannot combine Apple ID's.
This method may not work or work for everyone, but it sends a message that there ineed is a "Problem", triggered by iCloud's implementation.

Just log out of the App Store on my phone and sign back in with the same login you use on your computer.

    Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
    This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    DVI is video only so you only need one port... if you were hooking up audio and video you'd need three (1 for video - 2 for the left/right audio channels)

    Hi,
    I use an Apple Mini DVI to VGA on my eMac to expand my monitor space, connect to an old Pinceton 15" lcd, both are on 1024 x 768 res in millions colors, and work fine.
    My question is I have plan to buy an Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter since some of my project require a transfer process to an old vcr or Sony TRV-27 mini dv cam.
    Would the adapter compatible for my eMac mini DVI port ? because eMac is not mentioned as apple compatible for this adapter at apple store, yet there is a review said it work great on ones eMac.
    Anybody else using this adapter that would share with me ?

    My question is regardng the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter.
    Do I read that correctly that I can hook my macbook up via rca and s-video but not composite? Does Apple make one cable that will do both?
    I would like the ability to hook up to a projector which will likely be composite. As well RCA/S-video via t.v or DVD inputs.

    For VGA you will need the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter. For composite video you will need the Mini-DVI to video adapter. If you want sound while using the video adapter you will need a 3.5mm to rca stereo cable. This is a y cable like this Example of 3.5mm to RCA Y cable
    FYI the RCA output on the video adapter is composite video.

    The new MacBooks that use the NVIDIA 9400M video chip do _not_ support output to analog TVs. Thus, with the current MacBooks the only way to get output to an analog TV is with a third-party VGA-to-analog TV converter box -- you can't just use one of Apple's cables (although you'll need the mini display port to VGA adapter cable to connect to a third-party VGA-to-TV converter box).
    More specifically, you can _not_ use one of Apple's $19, DVI to Video (composite/S-Video) adapters on the new MacBooks.

  • Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter doesn't fit my aluminum iMac

    I previously had a 17" white iMac (pre-Intel) machine, and about 6 months ago I bought the mini-DVI to video adapter so I could connect it to my television. Worked like a charm. But I recently bought a new aluminum iMac, and the adaptor doesn't fit into the mini-DVI port in the back of the machine. It appears the adaptor and port are both male ends.
    Has the port changed on the aluminum iMacs? The product description for the adaptor on Apple's website says it works with iMac (Intel Core Duo). Isn't the aluminum iMac an Intel Core Duo? I can't figure out why it doesn't fit and which cable I'm supposed to be using instead.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

    I'm in the processing of producing an instructional video using an Intel Core Duo iMac and iMovie. This content will be distributed primarily via broadcast over cable TV. Considering this, I'd like to be able to edit and view my dv footage on a TV monitor as I work.

    1. I currently use an RCA composite cable to view dv footage from my camcorder directly on the TV. Is this the same cable I'd attach to the Mini-DVI to Video Adapter?
    2. The DVD recorder/player my TV signal is routed through has an s-video port. Is there a benefit to using an s-video connection in addition to/or instead of the RCA connections?

    "Mirroring" a Mac's output to a TV, or plugging in an adaptor to provide a display on a Mac's screen and simultaneously on a TV ruins the Mac's display while this is happening by lowering its resolution. Ugghhh! (..I've tried this several times, in order to get a 'TV' signal out, showing the Mac's desktop, but it's hopeless..)
    Karsten's method is the best - output to camcorder via the normal FireWire cable, and plug a TV or monitor into the camcorder's A/V Out socket!
    [..Note, though, that Matti has pointed out that - what was it..? - during editing, some updating of the TV-thro-camcorder display doesn't work correctly. I can't remember exactly what the problem was, and I don't see it mentioned on Matti's Bugs Page, but there was some slight oddity.     I bought a Mac Mini (May 2009) and this Mini-DVI to Video adapter with plans to use it to send an S-video signal to an analog TV. Though the sales staff at the Apple store said it should work, it does not. The graphics card apparently should support it, and it may be addressed with a future driver update, but as of now this does not work. I have used a mini-DVI to VGA adapter and monitor to verify that the port is working, and also verified that the S-video cable and TV input work. There are third party VGA to S-video/RCA adapters available so I plan to use one of those for my purposes. This is probably a 5-star product when used with the right Mac; however, Apple should have made it clear that having a mini-DVI port on your Mac is necessary but not sufficient for this to work - hence the 3 stars.

    Bought the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter to hook up my Macbook to my TV. I tried it when it first arrived and it worked within minutes of setting up. Great! I go to set it up and use it again a week later, and it wouldn't work at all. I went through every possible setting I could to try and get it to work, nothing. Do these things have a tendency to go out or short out or something? I'm getting nothing but scrambled screens, grey screens, etc. Nothing seems to work.

    Is your profile information accurate? The MacBook 2,1 was introduced in November of 2006 and discontinued in May of 2007, so the mini-DVI to video adapter ought to work.
    What, exactly, do you see on your screen? Are all of the connections nice and snug? Do you have another RCA cable you can try? You can use a white or red one if you want; they all will work as long as you're connecting the video adapter to the yellow port on the TV.

    I bought an Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter to connect my Macbook to a TV using normal video cable. When I connect the cable, my Laptop DIsplay gives a flickr once and then it shows nothing. I checked Display in the system preference where I don't get a secondary monitor option. My TV is panasonic and it's an old one. I work on Final Cut Pro and it's very very important to see my videos on a TV. What am I doing wrong with the connection? Anyone Please Please help...

    Your probably not doing anything wrong. There are thousands of users with Similar issues and it seems to be with many different adapters.
    We have Mini DP to VGA (3 different brands) and they all fail most of the time. This seems more prevalent with LCD Projectors. I've tested some (50+) with VGA Monitor (HP) and they all worked, LCD Projector (Epson, Hitachi, and Sanyo) and they all fail, DLP Projector (Sanyo) and one worked.
    My Apple Mini DP to DVi works most of the time. My Mini DP to HDMI (Generic non Apple) works every time.
    The general consensus is that Apple broke something in the OS around 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 and its not yet fixed. As we are a school we have logged a case with the EDU Support group so will see what happens.

    The answer depends on which video-in connections your TV has. There are several possibilities, but you're going to have to tell us more about your TV.
    If you have an analog (not HDTV) then it probably has either or maybe both s-video or composite video-in. If you have a choice, s-video is better than composite video.
    If you have an HDTV, it probably has both s-video and composite video but may also have VGA, DVI or HDMI video-in. VGA, DVI and HDMI are all digital and would be better than s-video or composite. But, again, s-video would be better than composite.
    Keep in mind, the mini-DVI to video adapter is video only. You're also going to have to find the cables to plug your MacBook into the TV or stereo to get the audio.

    I have several IOS devices sharing the same Apple ID that my sons and wife use. I have set up a game center account using that ID and can find no way that we can play head to head games on those multiple devices against each other using that one Apple ID login, even if I create multiple Nicknames. Am I missing something?

    An Apple ID is just an account that uses an email address and password. It does not have to be tied to iTunes. You can create one here. Create one each for your sons and wife.

    I want to share my iTunes account with my daughter so that she can download and update apps on her iphone, but I don't like that she needs to use my apple id and password, which could give her access to my email. She doesn't realize this yet, but it's only a matter of time. Is there any way to give her her own apple id, connected to my account?

    Never mind; I believe I found my answer - in a nutshell, everyone needs their own apple accounts and ids.

  • One apple ID for multiple family members

    Hi,
    We are new to the Iphone products.  We have shared an Apple ID since christmas with my two children to help control what they are downloading etc on thier Iphones.  Currently for some unknown reason when one of my children send me text message it comes accross to my phone as an email address which is what is used as our apple ID from when I originally got us set up for the ipods from years ago.  since getting the Iphones this all of a sudden seams to be an issue with only one of our phones. 
    Any suggestions how to fix this?  We deleted the icloud accounts, and have done the "soft" reimage per verizon wireless.  Do we really have to set our children up with thier own email addresses and Apple ID's too? 
    Any suggestions would be helpful.

    To fix this go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and do one of the following:
    1.    Either uncheck the email address shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on both phones; or
    2.    If you want to continue to receive iMessages at this email address on one of your phones, on the other phone tap the Apple ID at the top, sign out, then sign back in using a different Apple ID (so both phones will be using a different Apple ID for iMessage).  Note: you can continue to share an Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores.  It does not need to be the same as the ID you are using for iMessage, FaceTime and other services.
    Because you are  using the same Apple ID for iMessage. To prevent this, on one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the Apple ID, sign out, then sign in with a different Apple ID.  Note: you can continue to share an Apple ID for purchasing; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud and other services.
    Also, to prevent merging your calendars and contacts if you are syncing these to the same iCloud account, be sure to set up separate iCloud accounts on each phone with separated IDs.

  • How can multiple users want to use airpaly to apple tv?

    Our family wants to be able to share different media from our iphones/itouches through Apple TV 2. How can we do this? It seems that only one device and connect at a time. While we understand that all 4 of our devices cannot simultaneously connect and play, we would like to be able switch back and forth.  We cannot.  Also, when the last person to use Airplay is leaves the house or is gone (their itunes library is closed/off), others would like to access the Airplay through their device to the Apple TV 2 but more often than not we cannot seem to get the Apple TV 2 to recognize a new user.  Any tips?

    It's a fundamental oversight of Home Sharing - it assumes you're a single user with a single AppleID.
    You can go to Setting>Computers and log out of one AppleID and change to another HomeSharing ID, but that seems a hassle.
