Apple IDs and icloud

Hi I have now updated all apple gadgets to allow icoud etc. I am one of the unlucky ones who has an Apple ID as I have a dot.me account and a separate Apple ID for Itunes... ( I know its my fault as i was one of the bad people who apple products before they became so popular!)
My problem, my iphone4 has now the dot.me apple ID overall and the itunes apple id for store... all OK it seems... however my ipad has the dot.me ID for its main ID, yet when I try and put the itunes apple ID into my IPad, it tells me this ID isnt an Apple ID and needs verification... I have used this ID for years on itunes , and its the ID I am using here!!!
Any help please?
PS .A little tip apple, before launching these things allow us early adopters to merge Apple IDs!

  • Family Apple IDs and iCloud SubAccounts

Our family has just purchased and is migrating to 3 iPhones, 1 MacBook Pro, 1 iMac and 2 iPads. We have 4 users in our family - 2 parents and 2 kids. Your recommendations on how to best set-up our family in terms of Apple ID's and iCloud Accounts would be most appreciated. Below are our top line thoughts based on some initial reading, yet very new to all of this and am not familiar with excuting the details (need a plan + step-by-step help)
Have one main Apple ID for iTunes. This account will be used to access iTunes on all iPhones (3), iPad (2) and Computers. It will also be used to create a main iCloud account for the main household user (contacts, calendar, etc).
For spouse + 2 kids, have separate iCloud accounts for e-mail, contacts, calendars, etc. Do you need to use a separate Apple ID for each one?  How do you create the Apple ID if they don't have e-mail addresses, and the 1 email address is already set-up as the main Apple ID for iTunes?
Your detailed suggestions + step-by-step guide would be most helpful!!!!!!!!
    Thank You...

    In reference to iTunes...
Whilst you're under the same wifi, you can use Homesharing, as long as one machine holds all of the music, any other devise running iTunes should be able to stream the music through the wifi onto theirs.
Alternatively, when out and about, one user can activate in total 5 devices to download their music onto.
But you wouldn't want to do this outside of iTunes, otherwise it will mess up things like Facetime and Messages as previously mentioned. Even then this above process isn't exactly "clean".
A good solution would be as follows, and a set-up that works with myself and family...
Each person to have their own Apple ID. Using an Apple TV, you can easily flick between users, browse and stream everyones music, films and photos who's Apple ID is saved on the machine.
This is (only recently) the only Apple devise that works with multiple Apple IDs without getting complicated.
Of course research the Apple TV, because at the moment it is quite limiting, so make sure it's limits work with what you want to do. But we use it all the time for watching movies (bought in iTunes).

  • How do I manage two apple ids and iCloud for my teen's iPad?

Before my son turned 13, he used my Apple ID to set up his purchases for his first iPad.  Now he has his own apple ID.  He has his own iPhone and a different iPad for school.  The school wants him to use iCloud to back up everything.
I just set up iCloud but it wants to back up the items from my ID only.  How do I get it to back up from his ID too?
How can I even figure out which items are linked to his Apple ID and which ones are linked to my Apple ID?
For next school year, I want everything to work with his ID, not mine.  I wish I had just made him one in his name when he was 12!
I'm not so worried about the apps, photos, etc.  I am more concerned about his documents from Pages, Keynote, iBooks... I think when he does his schoolwork it is saving to my Apple ID and not his.
I've avoided syncing to the computers because we have 3 users with different IDs and several different devices and after a while it gets really confusing to know what belongs to whom.
I know that a lot of people are frustrated that you can't merge Apple IDs -- seems like Apple ID is built for single people and not growing families who hand down older devices to other family members.

You can see which ID he is signed into for iCloud by going to Settings>iCloud on his device(s) and viewing the ID shown next to Account.  This is the account that his documents are being store in, and the one his device is backing up to (if he is backing up to iCloud).
While it is possible to have more than one iCloud account on a device, there are limitations to the typed of data that additional ("secondary") accounts will sync.  Only the primary account (the one listed in Settings>iCloud) can be used for photo stream, bookmarks, documents, iCloud backup and Find My iDevice.  Because of this limitation, it isn't possible to sync (or "back up") documents from iWork to more than one iCloud account.

  • Multiple Apple Ids and iCloud

I am cursed by having more than one appleID. I am also finding iCloud to be a very poorly devised system.
I keep getting reminders from somewhere posted to  my gmail account. I do not want these cluttering up my inbox and so,  set about trying to locate the source and to turn them off.
I went over all my devices and turned iCloud off. I then went to my iMac and tried to log in to icloud with each of my separate AppleIDs, making sure that all the others were off.
I can sign in with one of my IDs and can extinguish as much of iCloud as I wish. However, when I sign out of that ID and attempt to log in under another ID, I am told that the password or ID are incorrect.
I have spent more than four hours with Apple tech support to no avail. Incidentally, Apple tech support is now populated by 'specialists' who are obliged to concentrate upon one tiny facet of the apple universe and appear to have no knowledge of antything outside their little segment of that.
Is there anyone out there who has had similar problems with this dratted iCloud fiasco? If so, and if he/she could throw light upon my problem, I shall be exceptionally grateful.

  • HT204053 How to merge Apple ID and iCloud ID

    Dear Castumr Support,
Every time I'm using an Apple device I creat a new account by mistake
So please help me anyway to merge them all to use only one account while using all Apple services
For Example I have an account for iTunes on my PC and Other for iPhone and other one for iCloud
I would like to merge them all or use only one for them all
    Thank You and Best Regards

Unfortunately, Apple does not allow you to "merge" several Apple ID accounts into one account.

  • HT1420 How to make Apple ID and iCloud the same Id?

How to make Apple ID and iCloud ID the same after they have been created?
iTunes keeps asking for ID and passwords that were created differently.

You can't im afraid. I wanted to do the same and got the following from Apple:
I am sorry, you cannot update your email address to MobileMe address as each Apple ID is unique.
Ross, I would like to let you know that, you cannot change your Apple ID if it was at any time a .Mac or MobileMe email address, even if your subscription has ended or been canceled.
The email address that ends in .me is already an Apple ID as well, as when you set up a MobileMe email its automatically set up as an Apple ID. So you cannot use this email address on another account. It is permanently associated with your MobileMe Apple ID.
This article provides helpful information when choosing which Apple ID to use with iCloud:

  • I have 2 Apple ids and two corresponding iCloud accounts. My five Apple devices are linked to one or the other. As one consequence a small number of my contacts are associated with one iCloud account, the majority with the other. How can I merge?

For reasons not entirely clear to me I have ended up with two Apple ids, two iCloud accounts and my Apple devices being associated with one or the other iCloud account/Apple id. One of the complications is that my contacts are partially owned by one iCloud account, partially by the other.
    Is there any way to
    - merge the contacts (I have tried exporting from one and importing into the other but one set will overwrite the other)?
    - migrate all devices to one single iCloud account without being locked out for 3 months?
    - merge Apple ids or just delete one of them without locking out devices?
Grateful for any suggestions because this is turning into a headache.

You can merge the contacts from one account with your other one without overwriting them.  Sign into the first account, download them as vCard (iCloud: Export contact information as a vCard), email them to a device signed into the account you want to merge them with, tap the vCard and choose Add..., then Create New Contacts.
You can also migrate a copy of the data in one account and merge it with the other by signing into the account you are leaving, then signing out (or deleting the account if not running iOS 8), then choosing Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Then sign into the other account and choose Merge when prompted.  This won't move Notes however.  If you are syncing notes that you want to migrate from the other account, you can temporarily add the account to your Mac as a secondary account by going to System Preferences>Internet Accounts (or Mail,Contacts,Calendars)>Add Account>iCloud and signing in with the other account ID.  Then enable notes syncing in the secondary account.  You will then be able to open the notes app and drag and drop notes from one account to the other.  When you're done, delete the secondary account from your Mac.
You can't merge IDs as Apple does not allow it.  Also, you won't be locked out of anything for 3 months.  The "90-day switch" rule only applies to changing your iTunes store account, not your iCloud account.  Just leave your iTunes store account as-is.  The ID you use for the iTunes store does not have to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.

  • HT204053 I have two Apple IDs and want to merge them so I use the same Apple ID for iCloud/IO6 and iTunes

I have 2 Apple IDs and I want to merge them so I only use one. Can I change my Apple ID for iTunes to my iCloud/email ID?

You can't merge them but you can change the ID you use for iTunes store and app purchases.  To do this, go to Settings>iTunes & App Stores, tap the ID at the top, sign out, then sign back in using the other ID.

Even if im signed into my old one the photo stream doesnt automatically go to my mac. Im not exactly technology savy but id love to figure this out.

I have also noticed the same "problem".  I do not fully understand the impact of using the same ID on multiple computers and devices if I want to keep them all in sync.

  • Using Touch ID for App store when you have seperate Apple IDs for iCloud and iTunes

My wife and I each have a new iPhone 5S.  We share the same Apple ID for iTunes and the App Store.
In addition, we each have our own unique Apple IDs for iCloud.  This enables us to use iMessage to text to each other.
Can the iPhone 5S be setup to use the Touch ID for iTunes and App store purchases when there are separate iCloud and iTunes ID on the same phone?
Currently, I can unlock my phone using the Touch ID, but the App store requests me to type the password to my wife's and my shared Apple ID whenever I wish to buy an app.  I am not given the option to use the Touch ID.
I do have both the iPhone Unlock and iTunes & App Store set to "on" here: Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > Touch ID
How can I use my current setup so I can approve App Store purchases with the Touch ID?

This is the screen that pops up when I attempt to purchase an app.  It does not allow me to use my Touch ID.

I apparently have 3 apple IDs, and it's making it challenging to set up iCloud. Is there a way to combine them into the one I actually use?

You can't combine or merge iCloud IDs, but you can migrate the iCloud data from one account to another if you wanted to move it to a different ID.

  • ICloud, Apple IDs and Calendar

A few issues:  2 Apple IDs; no iCloud (web) calendar, no iCloud Mail (web).
I have two Apple IDs: my original with a [email protected] address showing on my iPhone and iPad (iCloud Account Information) and a @me.com showing in the iCloud preferences on my iMac.
The iMac, iPad and iPhone calendars sync well through iCloud.
The iCloud calendar on the web shows nothing at all, totally out of the loop.
ICloud Mail does not work and I am directed to set up an @me.com account through my iPhone which I cannot do because of current [email protected] Apple IDs.
I would like to have everything synced through iCloud, have one Apple ID and have access to all iCloud services on the web.
While I am at it, my @me.com address is way too long and I want to change it as well.
    JiPi

The only way to change your @me.com address is to create a new iCloud account with the name you want.
You'll then have to setup this new account on all your devices/computers and abandon your old AppleIDs.
However, if you have iTunes/App Store purchases made with your old AppleIDs you'll have to continue using that ID for the iTunes/App Store as you can't currently merge IDs.

  • 2 Apple ids and can't connect

I have 2 apple ids and one is for iCloud through my new Macbook Air. I don't remember the password for that id and whenever I try to change it it reverts to the other id. Any ideas on how to fix? Get rid of the second id? I can't connect to anything, icloud, ical, etc.

OK, so the Apple ID on your iCloud is what your current Apple ID used to be, or it is a different ID altogether?

  • HT204150 Sharing the same iTunes, Apple ID and iCloud accounts.

    Hi
My wife and I share the same Itunes , Apple Id and Icloud accounts.
How do we keep our contacts seperate, when we open up or back up on I cloud?
As we both have I phones, I would like to keep all my work contacts seperate from hers. Also I don't wish to have her contacts loaded on my phone and vice verser.
Will it mean the I will have to get a seperate apple ID and seperate Icloud account.
Problem is that all our music and photos are on the one Library, because we didn't have two Iphones before, it didn't matter.
We would like to keep the same Itunes library to access music and photos, but like to keep everything else seperate.
    Can you please help.
    Regards
    shervhall

You can continue to share the same ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores (your iTunes account/library), but you need to have separate iCloud accounts with separate IDs to prevent merged data such as contacts.  (You aren't required to use the same ID for purchasing as you do for other services such as iCloud, iMesage, FaceTime, etc.)  The only issue is that photo stream is tied to the iCloud account so when you separate your accounts, you will no longer be sharing the same photo stream.  You can still send each other shared photo streams in order to share each other's photos, but they wouldn't be part of the same photo stream.
To separate your iCloud accounts, on the device that will be changing accounts, go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.  When prompted choose to keep the data on the device.  (If you are syncing iWork documents with iCloud, also open your iWork apps and turn off iCloud syncing and choose to keep the documents on your device.)  After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The device that will be keeping the existing account will not be effected by this.)  Next, set up a new iCloud account on this device using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to this new account.  At this point you will have two different iCloud accounts, one for each phone, with identical data on them.
You will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the unwanted data (such as deleting the other wife's contacts from your account, and vice versa).  These changes will be reflected on each phone.  When finished you will have individual iCloud accounts with just your own data on them.
To avoid getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls you also need to use separate IDs for iMessage and FaceTime.  To change the ID for iMessage on one of the devices, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign in with a separate ID (such as the new iCloud ID).  To change the ID for FaceTime on this device, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • I have a iPhone and iPad on one iTunes account, I have recently bought two further I touches fir the kids , should I set them up with their own apple ids and the can I transfer purchases through all devices

I have a iPhone and iPad on one iTunes account, I have recently bought two further I touches fir the kids , should I set them up with their own apple ids and the can I transfer purchases through all devices,

    Hi jhyiesla,
Im not sure wether I got you right or not. But my advice/s would be as follows:
These steps help you get rid of old apps you downloaded years ago and you do not use anymore.(Also frees space on your mac after emptying the trash)
    1) go to iTunes and delete all applications in it. Make sure to move them to trash! Do not empty your trash yet. Its your backup if step 3 doesnt appear.
    2) connect both your devices(one after each other) and make a backup. !!!Dont press the Sync button, press the Back Up Now Button
    3) Then it asks you if you want to backup applications as well. Confirm. (This is how apps get transferred manually)
    4) Then Sync your devices... The first time it might be, that there are some additional apps loaded to your devices you dont want to.. delete them on your Device (not iTunes) and after that you should be good every time you sync again.
    5) now you can empty your trash on your mac.
    Further,
    - You should regularly connect your devices with iTunes to make sure they are backed up. (Even if you have activated iCloud backup, the iTunes backup is more proper i.e.. Apps)
    - If you hate scrolling through a list of apps in iTunes, you can re/install apps directly on iOS not via iTunes. I absolutely never go to the "Applications" section in iTunes. I install and delete apps directly on iOS.
