Apple IIGS RGB Monitor How ot Hook up to test with a PC

Hi,
I'm hoping I came to thr right place. I have a Apple IIGS RGB monitor I have no way to test it. I no longer have my old IIGS to test this with. I came across this from someone tossing it out. I was hoping to make a RGB to VGA cable but was wondering if anyone has tried this and if tis possible, what did they test with an old pc? Or do you have a better alternative. THe best way it to get a IIGS but that isn't possible at this point. Any and all help would be really apprecaited. I would like to check the monitor and see if it works.
Thanks in advance,
Nick

Many Apple displays of about that timeframe used a DB-15 (two rows of pins) connector. Adapters to VGA (three rows of pins) are readily available from multiple sources that deal in older Mac equipment. The adapters shuffle the five crucial signals (Red, Green+Intensity, Blue, Horizontal-Sync, and Vertical-Sync) so that they line up on the correct pins for VGA. There is only ONE way to connect the five key signals that will produce a picture, and every adapter (that is not defective) will connect those signals correctly.
You must be careful to get an adapter that has the right male and female connectors. There are two main types, one intended to adapt Mac displays to VGA computers, and the other intended to adapt older Mac computers to VGA displays.
Mac adapters also provide a code on pins 4, 7, and 10 that tells the older Mac what class of displays is attached, If you plan on using this with a Mac later, you will need the right adapter, or one with tiny switches. The various adapters differ ONLY in the ID bits on pins 4, 7, and 10, not in the basic connection of the Video signals.

  • Apple IIGS RGB Monitor, does it display anything without a video source?

I have a Apple IIGS RGB monitor no cable or computer to test it with. I just want to sell the monitor at this point. I don't recall in the past if this monitor displayed anything when it was powered on just lit up with when there was no video source. I just don't have the room to keep it and want to test it out. Since I have no way to get video is there a way to be able to test the monitor.
That is does it show raster to something when powered up without a video source. I don't recall what my old monitors did without video. I don't think I remember turning them on without video. Would I assume that is should work if the power light comes on but no picture(no video source) or should it at least have raster(white or some color screen)?
    Thanks again,
    Nick

Thank you, thats what I was afraid of. So it probably works, but I guess I will have to say it powers up and I have no way to test the video source to make sure. Does that sound about right? *I did try to adjust the brightness and contract but didn't see any changes.*
    Thanks again,

You're leaving out the most vital part in your summary. You should be able to see change in the brightness if you crank it up. You need to put that in your description for full disclosure.

  • How to launch my RESTful TEST with JAVA EE application in NetBeans 6.5

Hi, I want to TEST my RESTful WebService in my JAVA Enterprise Application.
I have a bit database in my EJB Module. Resuming, I have two modules (EJB + WAR) and Enterprise Application (JAVA EE that contains the before modules). Appears two kind of errors:
    1) When I only deploy JAVA Enterprise Project an then I run my TEST Restful, appears an error that says: "Another module has been deployed" . This error is about JAVA Enterprise Application has been deploy before.
    2) If I only deploy TEST Restful, this doesn't find Facaderemote class of my EJB Module, because WAR Project hasn't the EJB references.
    Thanks a lot.

  • TV Apple TV MacBook Air:How to connect my computer's monitor and TV as multiple monitors (NOT mirroring)

I have an insignia TV, an apple TV I just bought less than a month ago, and a Macbook Air (mountain Lion) and a MacBook pro (mountain lion).
I am able to connectboth of my computers with the TV to mirror my screen/monitor, but I have not been able to figure out how to use the apple TV to use my TV as a second monitor, like I was able to do with my HDMI cable.
when I bought the Apple TV the person who I talked to at the store told me I would be able to do it, but I havent been able to do it through system preferences and the options for display only show as mirroring through Airplay. I dislike mirroring because while I play something on my computer (or somebody else does) I'd like to still be able to use my computer for browsing or doing homework.
Please help me find a way in which I can make my TV as a second monitor tu my computer without having to have an HDMI cord across the room. I have a puppy and I have had problems with that. That is actually the reason why I considered buying the Apple TV device.
NOTE: In case you know a way to connect my TV to my Macs I have a time capsule and my TV has a DVI, two HDMI, and a USB ports.
    thank you!

  • I have my apple tv but I want to hook my iPad to it .how?

I want to know how to hook my iPod to my apple tv

You can play compatible content from the iPad on AppleTV 2 (black) using Airplay but this won't work for AppleTV 1 (silver/grey) (at least for video anyway).
Both devices need to be enabled for Home Sharing in their respective Settings menus with your iTunes store credentials and they both need to be on the same local network (wi-fi for iPad, wi-fi or ethernet for AppleTV 2).
Then use the Airplay icon in compatible apps to send stuff to AppleTV:
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/airplay.html
You cannot connect AppleTV2 and iPad physically with a cable to get them to work together if that's what you meant.

  • Apple 27 inch monitor connect to dvi port

Anyone know how to connect an Apple 27 inch monitor with a mini connector to a nvidia quadro 4800 dvi port and still maintain full resolution ? ( No, the Kanex C247D will not maintain full resolution)

I just finished hooking up my 4 year old Mac Pro to a new Apple 27" LED Display an hour ago.
I used an Atlona AT-DP400 DVI to Mini DisplayPort adapter and it works great "out

  • How do I use my late 2011 iMac ( with thunderbolt) as external monitor for laptop/Xbox or other device with hdmi as output.

May be this question has been asked thousand times. how do I use my mid 2011 iMac ( with thunderbolt) as external monitor for laptop/Xbox or other device with hdmi as output. if apple hasn't removed that feature and has just moved that functinoality to thunderbolt then how can I use it. currently there is no laptop available with thunderbolt output. no 3rd party converter available. whats the use of having feature on latest functionality if we cant use it. I wish they would have made one port has mini-dvi and other thunderbolt for backward compatibility untill some vendor comes up with converter.

    It Says :
Mac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) and iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) and later computers support Target Display Mode via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable (2 m) when the source is another Thunderbolt-equipped computer.
Name one computer model/vendor which has thunderbolt as output for display + audio. this is so stupid to move to new technology without availbility of its compatible devices.

  • Which adapter do I need to connect my new Mac Mini to my old Apple Cinema HD monitor?

I have a perfectly good Apple Cinema HD monitor (model M8536), but it has an ADC connection, and my new Mac Mini isn't compatible with it. I've bought a new screen for the Mac Mini, but there are going to be times when I need to run two screens in parallel on the Mini. Can anyone tell me which adapter I need to do this? I've looked at the Apple DVI to ADC connector  (M8661LL), but I'm not sure this is what I need, and they're quite pricey, even second-hand on eBay, so I don't want to make a mistake!
    Thanks!

Thanks, dwb ... unfortunately I don't think I'd get very much for my old display, it's so old (> 10 years)! But it still works perfectly, and I'm loathe to throw it away ... and there are going to be times when I need the two screens, so even though I've bought a new 27" Philips monitor, it would be good just to buy an adapter to hook up the old screen ...

  • How to hook up Mac mini w Samsung Le37R82BX tv?

    Hi,
I'm planning to purchase a Mac mini and use it with my Samsung LE-37R82BX LCD TV. Detailed specifications for the TV:
    http://www.zigzag.am/product.php?id=0147922
The questions I have before committing to buy:
    1) Can I hook up the mini with the TV without distorting the picture? I don't want to have a separate monitor, and my main usage occasion would be viewing photos, videos, therefore no distortion is a must. I'm fine with having black stripes on the side of the picture, just don't want stretched image. The max resolution of the TV is 1366*768.
    2) If the hookup is possible, what converter do I need to buy? I already have a HDMI-DVI converter (used it with my previous PC), is it ok to hook it up with the Mac Mini's Mini DV to DVI cable? Or should I buy a mini-DV HDMI adapter?
    thanks a lot in advance,
    Gergely

I use the included mini-DVI to DVI adapter with a DVI to HDMI cable and my picture is great on my 24" LG LCD HDTV. The mini should be able to provide that resolution without issue as long as it can read the resolution output from the TV accurately. Apple suggests that you connect the cables in what some think of as reverse. Start with the TV and work back to the Mac mini so that the mini gets a good read on the resolution requirements of the TV.

  • Hi, I just got an Apple Thunderbolt Display. How can I connect it to my sony vaio pc? Thanks

Hi, I just got an Apple Thunderbolt Display. How can I connect it to my sony vaio pc? At Apple Store they gave me a Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter, but monitor doesnt display any image. Thanks for your help!

no, your computer needs to have thunderbolt technology. does it?
if not, no adapter can make a thunderbolt display work on a non-thunderbolt computer.
someone was likely confused since miniDP will FIT into a TB socket but is only compatible one way, ie a mDP display can work on a TB machine, but a TB display cannot work on a mDP machine

  • How to hook up Power Mac G4 to my i.Mac

Been browsing through discussions and Apple stuff, talked to support techs at Apple Care (with less than desired results), but still need help on how to do this.
Here's what I want to do: Get step-by-step instructions on how to hook up an "old" (think it was made in 1999) Power Mac G4 to my i.Mac computer.
    a) primarily to serve as back-up for my documents, pictures, music, etc., even programs if that can be done, and;
    b) actually use some of the old programs that are on that old G4 (i.e. Adobe Pagemaker)
    Here's what I have:
    1) a flat-panel i.Mac, 1 GHz PowerPC G4, 256 MB DDR SDRAM, using Panther;
    2) an old Power Mac G4 (the rather large, vertical hard drive) of which I know nothing about the specs....like memory, storage, or system it has, etc......at least until I can get into it. It's been sitting idle for about four years;
    3) a three-foot, 6-pin to 6-pin cable (Belkin) which I am told is what I need to connect the two computers via FireWire jacks.
So, presuming I have all that is needed to hook these two machines up, how do I proceed. A "1, 2, 3 instruction would be very much appreciated.
For example, should both computers be turned on "before" inserting the FireWire cable, or......should just the i.Mac be turned on, then insert the cable, then turn on the old Mac?
Once hooked up, and powered up, it's my understanding I'll see on icon for the old Mac on my i.Mac desktop. To copy files, I'm supposed to just drag and drop to the old Mac icon. Is that right?
Then to actually use the old Mac, I'm supposed to reboot my i.Mac, then hold down the "t" key just after the reboot "sound," or little circling icon, and I'll be in the old Mac? The screen will show everything on the "old" Mac? Is this right? Sounds simple enough, but.
If this is right and I'm actually in the old Mac, can I then sort and arrange documents I've dragged and dropped, and can I use programs that are already on that old Mac......like Pagemaker?
And, how do I get "out" of the old Mac and back into my i.Mac?
I see through discussions that I can apparently backup my entire i.Mac hard drive by going to the HD finder window and dragging and dropping my user folder icon (the little one that appears at the top and in the center of the Finder window, to the old Mac icon. Does that sound right?
I surely would appreciate some help on this. What I've got so far is piecemeal tidbits, nonsequential, and often, unclear.
Thanking anybody and everybody who might be inclined to help me out.

    Thank you A Brody,
This is all very helpful to a guy like me.
I guess the first thing I'll have to do is get an ethernet cable. Presumably, the FireWire cable will not be needed now. Correct?
The same questions still seem to apply. I did print out the "Connecting two computers using Ethernet" that you forwarded to me.
    1) But, do I power up both computers before installing Ethernet cable?
    2) After following instructions on the"Connecting two computers....." will an icon appear for the old Power Mac?
    3) After hooking up the Ethernet cable, do I have to re-boot, use the "T" key, to get into the old Power Mac?
    4) After fiddling around on the old Power Mac, how do I get out of there and back onto my i.Mac?
    5) Or, because it would be hooked up via Ethernet, could I simply go back and forth between the two computers?
By the way, after checking out your info on how to identify my old Power Mac, this is the info I've been able to glean, I think:
    The old Power Mac is:
    • A Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics)........and therefore, it says, not able to serve as a target computer backup with my i.Mac
    • Apparently made in 1999
    • System, apparently, is OS 8.6 (my i.Mac is OS X 10.3.9...Panther)
    • Model number either M7631 or M7826 (can't find it on the computer)
    • Memory: PC 100 SDRAM, up to 1 GB (don't know how much it has now)
    • I have no idea how much storage is available (i.e. my i.Mac is 74.5 GB (I think)
    Thanking you again
