Apple iMac (colorfull old ones) w. OS X 10.4.11 and OS X 10.7.2 Lion Server

Dear all,
our Apple Network consists of one Apple Lion 10.7.2 Server based on an Xserve Xeon Server, some very New iMacs running Lion, some eMacs running MacOS 10.5.8 and 10.4.11 and some old iMacs running 10.4.11. We're using OpenDirectory, Filesharing, AFP, DHCP, DNS as Network Services.
Now since we've upgraded from Leopard Server to Lion server we've got the Problem that our old iMacs running 10.4.11 somehow aren't abled to authenticated against OpenDirectory any more... So if a user tries to Login at the Login screen against the server and he can't login (at the old iMac running 10.4.11). At the eMac side also 10.4.11 everything works fine. Regarding the system.log of the old iMac it says at some point "Input / Output Error".
Even a fresh 10.4.11 Installation on the old iMac didn't solve the problem.
Any suggestions what to do and how to fix that problem ?

First, see if your Mac is compatible with Mountain Lion > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
If it's compatible, first you have to upgrade to Snow Leopard, so buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard That's because OS X Mountain Lion requires Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Lion.
Then, make a backup of your files, insert the Snow Leopard DVD and upgrade to Snow Leopard. After upgrading, go to  > Software Update to update to Mac OS X 10.6.8.
This update will install the App Store on your Mac, so open it and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. While Mountain Lion is downloading, check if your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade OS X

You now need to download the non-activation version provided by Adobe here

Resetting User Password in Lion, Mountain Lion & Mavericks
Boot into your Recovery Partition by hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
In Terminal, type:
resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.

As a fan of Apple and their products i'd thought, that i have to sign up on the Apple Support Communities, so yeah, i did it and .. "here i 'am". As i am German, i have to say sorry, if i use bad English. Complaints please to my former English teacher ^^

My first discussion is thought to be a question: Can i "combine" my new Apple ID with my old one?

Did you create a new Apple ID, or simply update the old one?
If you simply updated the old one, then you need to go to Settings>iTunes & App Stores, click on the Apple ID, and sign out. Then sign back in with your new ID. Also, you want to go to Settings>iCloud and scroll down to the bottom and delete the iCloud account and sign back onto it with your new Apple ID as well.
If you created a new Apple ID, then there are other considerations. Post back if that is the case.

I've paid $ 3,99 for Xcode for Snow Leopard. Now there is a new Xcode for Lion, so I downloaded the new one but the installed continued to be the old one. Now App Store says "Installed" and don't allow me to re-download Xcode. How can I proceed?

I've paid $ 3,99 for Xcode for Snow Leopard 12 days ago. After installing Lion I saw there is a new FREE Xcode for it, so I downloaded the new one but after installing automatically Xcode for Lion the Developer folder contained the old one. I deleted the old Xcode but the App Store says "Installed" and don't allow me re-download Xcode.
How can I proceed? I'm guessing whether this problem will occur each time I buy an application from App Store.

Yes, that's righ, Xcode installer was in the Apps folder. I assumed it had been automatically installed and the installer deleted after installation (the same way as Lion is installed).
I tried also the procedure for redownloding applications, and MAS showed both Xcodes (Lion and Snow Leopard) and OS X Lion. We see that buttons for Lion and Xcode for Snow Leopard say 'Install' but Xcode for Lion says 'installed' because there is an Install Scode in the Apps folder.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you did not sign out of your Apple ID on your iPhone before creating a new one, then you will need to sign back in with your previous Apple ID and then sign out. If you do not remember your password and do not have access to the email account, then you can reset your password by using the security questions.

Well, it seems waiting is not my strong suit..! I renamed a javascript file called recovery to sessionstore. This file was in the folder sessionstore-backups I had copied from mozilla 3 days ago, when my tabs were still in place. I replaced the sessionstore in mozilla's default folder with the renamed file and then started mozilla. And the tabs reappeared as they were 3 days ago!
So there goes the tab problem. But again when I started mozilla the window saying "a script has stopped responding" appeared, this time the script being: chrome//browser/contenttabbrowser.xml2542
If someone knows how to fix this and make firefox launch normally, please reply! Thank you

My start up disk is almost full, but I have deleted everything I can find - I think that when I upgraded my software it has saved the old one - anyone know how I can find and delete it?

Late last year I upgraded from tiger to leopard (very out of date I know) but ever since I have been getting warnings that my startup disk is full. I have deleted loads including pictures and itunes but still get the same mesage. I think when I upgraded the old version was stored somewhere and this might be causing the problem. Does anyone know where I would be able to find and delete - or alternatively have any other suggestions for what the problem may be?

80GB is a very small drive.
Sorry Noondaywitch, but omni disk sweeper isn't going to install in the space remaining, without more problems.
My Suggestions
1. Get a large (400GB+) USB hard drive
2. Copy all the contents of your home directory to the USB drive.
3. Delete all your files from your home directory on your computer after making sure everything transferred ok.
4. Perform a clean (destructive) install of Mac OSX and then the applications you need.
5. Check how much space you have left.
6. If there is less than 50% of the HDD space left (35GB or so), then consider replacing the HDD with a new larger one. If it's a white intel mac book, then this is very easy, and instructions how to do it are included in your 'everything else' wallet with your OSX DVDs etc.
7. If you can't replace the HDD, then it's time to consider a new machine i'm afraid.

HT1727 I lost my old iPod and bought a new one. The old one had many of MY personally owned and legally bought CDs on it. I have those iTunes backed up ant now I can't seem to "synch" them to the new iPod nano.

You might consider restoring the iPhone, then removing the SIM card after activating the iPhone, so as to use it as an iPod Touch. This should prevent any unwanted association with a phone number, and thus, voicemail, as well.

Apple does not offer an exchange program.
Physical damage (scratches) are not covered under the warranty.
If you desire a blemish free iPhone, buy a new one at full price then sell your current one to recoup some of the costs.
