Apple IMAC model#M6498 Power Cords?

I am running a woman's shelter.  A man generously donated 11 Apple IMac Model #M6498 computers so the women can go to school and/or job search online.  However, they came with no power cords.  Where can I buy the cords?

I believe that model is the early G4 iMacs, the first flat screens on a metal bar.  Those models need a C5 plug or "Mickey Mouse" plug on one end.
I have used Monoprice.com before (not for this item) with excellent service and results.

  • Where can I purchase Apple TV 3rd gen power cord?

Hi.  Where can I purhcase a power cord for my Apple TV 3rd generation (released in 2012)?  I don't see it on apple.com or amazon or ebay.
Weblinks would be very helpful in your reply.
    Thanks!

You should be able to pick up a figure of 8 power cable almost anywhere. The link below shows one on Amazon.

iMacs take generic power cords. If it fits into the back of the iMac and an electrical socket, it'll work.
    Good luck.

  • Apple's policy on replacing working, but fraying power cords?

The outer rubber part of my power cord is cracked open right near the spot where it goes into the computer. Obviously, from being bent when charging. It still works, but I am worries that it may stop in the near future.
I have the 3 year Apple Care plan. I was wondering if Apple will replace my power cord free of charge.
    Thanks

Take it to them for a evaluation, bring your machine also as they are tied together.
If not, then some white electrical tape should do the trick.

  • I have an imac g3 600mhz will all g3 power cords fit

will any Imac g3 power cord work with the 600mhz Imac g3

  • USA iMac model A1224 needs power cord for Belgium

    Hello,
I have a US iMac Model A1224 I need a power cord that will work in Belgium.  My power cord has a tag that reads: 10A 125V~ .  Will any power cord work, a friend in Amsterdam has a cable with the same interface as my iMac with the European wall mont  (2 round prongs)... Will this work or do I need to look at the voltage settings?
    Help, Please and THANK YOU.

Newer Mac models switch voltage automatically.  What does it say after the "125-"?  Probably 220 or 240V.  All you need in that case is a European plug or an adaptor for a US plug ( you can get them in the travel section of any department store or they are easily found in Europe) .

  • Replace iMac power cord

I moved from China and need a new power cord to use in the USA. Where can I get a power chord that works with an early 2008 iMac. Online some seem to say I can use any generic cord, while others say that I need an apple replacement? I'm willing to get the real cord if needed but can't seem to find it. I can find cords for later and earlier models but not mine !
    Help, please!

    Just read this:
In UK, the same lead is used for electric kettles.
That's actually false, and if used the other way around actually dangerous.
    First some terminology:
C13: the (male) connector on the cable side of a computer power cable
C14: the (female) connector on your computer
C15: the (male) connector on the cable for your water kettle
C16: the (female) connector on your water kettle
The relevant standard is IEC 60320.
I have to to warn against trying to use a C13 cable in a C16 socket. The C13 cable is NOT resistant the the high temperatures these devices use. The C16 socket prevents the C13 plug from being inserted in normal use, but some "clever" - not so clever if it goes wrong - modification might allow it in and might well cause serious problems such as a connector melting and shorting out as a result.
Using the C15 cable in a C14 equipped device is safe, no worries. Just don't use the computer cable for your water kettle.

  • My iMac wouldn't turn on. This has happened out of nowhere, it was working really well before.  checked my power cord and outlets everything's fine.  The iMac has no power at all. no sound or anything, completely dead.  It is only 1 year and 2 mos old.

I have purposely been ignoring your responses to my posts about the heat issues in the newer design iMacs, but if you want really want to ague the point...
First, the iMac is marketed as a desktop model Mac. Not a laptop or MacBook.
I have never owned a MacBook, so I can't attest to how much heat the MacBooks generate.
I Have two iMac models. A 2009, 27 inch screen iMac for myself. And a 2010, 21.5 inch screen iMac for my Fiancée.
As a desktop Mac these are hottest running desktop Macs I have ever owned. Period. I owned two beige Macs, a pre-G3 tower, aG3 desktop, a G4 MDD Tower, the original iMac, eMac, iMac G4 and now my current iMacs.
None of my previous Macs have ever, EVER ran this hot. I have never, also, had any component failures in any of the previous Macs I have owned, either. All of my Macs have been upgraded or modded to some degree over the years.  About 2 years ago I had to press my old G3 back into service. Both my G3 and G4 models have been heavily modded. The G3 ran without issue for a close friend for over a year until that friend went out a got a Mac Mini.
That's a 1996-97 Mac my friend. And it still is in working order and hasn't had any failures.
The fact I am pointing out here is that heat is an enemy to electronic components.
Whether desktop iMac or MacBooks, tightly packed enclosures of heat generating computer components with fans that do not run fast enough at most times to cool off the interior or exterior, will and does slow roast computer components to premature failure.
I do not know how frequent component failure is in the MacBook line up. So I can't attest to those.
I do not participate in those forums.
This is why at some point in computer history, Super Conputers were liquid cooled. PowerMac G5 systems were liquid cooled because they ran too hot!
I have taken my own precautions to keep my iMacs' heat down as much as possible.
I don't  have the money to keep buying a new Mac every 3-5 years when some catastrophic failure happens.
I had to purchase my iMacs used as I couldn't afford the cost of a new iMac with the specs I needed.
My idea, your idea and Apple's idea of acceptable operating temps we can argue all day long.
I feel, personally, that the operating temps are too high and exacerbate operational issues.
I Have been participating in these particular iMac forums for just over a year and have seen plenty of posts of iMac component failures due to both heat and dust, dirt issues from within the iMac.
There can be no other reason for all of these failures. The SuperDrive is, usually, the first to go bad.
It's probably due more to its vertical mounting, but the excessive interior heat isn't helping it.
Next to fail is the GPU. The last to fail, but the most expensive to fix, the Logic Board.
I Have seen plenty of posts in my last year here of all of these failures in iMac less than 5 years old and ,perhaps, a little older. 2008 model iMacs seem to have their issues, too!
Apple is focusing too much on design and aesthetics, rather than longevity of their products, I feel now.
A Mac isn't going to last 7- 10 years anymore.
I don't have stats and numbers. Just common sense.
This is my story and I am sticking to it. For what it's worth.

  • I have a Mac G4 double mirrored model and everytime I shut it off it will not go on when I hit the power off button. However, if I unplug and plug in the power cord it boots fine and everything is OK. The PMU and logic board have been reset. Any ideas?

I have a Power Mac G4 double mirrored model and everytime I shut it off it will not go on when I hit the power on/off button again. However, if I unplug and plug in the power cord it boots fine and everything is OK. The PMU and logic board have been reset. Sometimes my Mac goes on just by pressing the power on button but most times I have to pull the power cord and put it back in. Any ideas or help out there for this? Could it be a failing power supply? Apple Care says that this model is obsolete so there is no help from there. John

    Hi John,
That's often a sign of a bsad Capacitor in the Power Supply, but...
Might be time to replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power, & can cause strange startup problems...

  • IMac G5 does not turn on after power cord knocked off

I have an iMac G5 that I recently passed on to my daughter. For the past few years it has been working fine except for one occasion that I replaced the power supply. At that time it was still covered by warranty and Apple sent me a replacement unit that I installed myself. Lately, the power cord was knocked off while the computer was on and now it will not turn on completely. It starts for about 15 seconds up to the gray Apple logo then the screen goes blank. I monitored the LEDs and all 3 do turn on then the computer shuts down. At first I thought it's the power supply that was affected with the power cord accident, and bought a replacement unit. I have just installed it but still the same problem exist. I am now asking for help from the expert souls out there to save this computer. Thanks.

No more ideas except to try starting from the install disc and see if that works. Resetting the PRAM might jolt it back to life, it's worth a try, but I am not hopeful.
If you do take it in, please let us know whether it was the logic board...

  • IMac AC power cord

Hi, my new iMac was delivered today and the power cord comes with 2-flat pins with a 15 cm green-and-yellow cable at the side. At the end of the cable is a little fork. I am in Hong Kong SAR where the standard is a 3-square-pin plug. No way do our sockets cater for this kind of plug.
Should I be getting some other type of power cord?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Look in your manual for the AppleCare phone number and contact Apple directly. I would think you should have received the correct power cord for Hong Kong.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • Missing power cord for Airport Extreme model 1034 (2003)

I found my old Airport extreme, the white dome type model 1034 (2003). I replaced it with a time machine a few years ago. Now I would like to use it to extend my network into my studio but I can't find the power cord. Can I use a universal adapter input 5.1volts 2.4A? If not, where can I get a new power cord?

Seems like Apple Support would be a good place to start. If Apple does not have the item, I doubt that anyone else will either.

  • Where can i buy a Power cord for my iMac in Perú?

I need it to turn on my iMac.
    I live now in Perú.

You might be able to find a power cord with the correct plug for Peru in the Apple Store covering that area of the world.
However you do not need to get a new power cord you can get a plug adapter to go from the plug that is on the cord to the receptacle in the wall. Any good electronics store or even a store that handles items for travelers should have one.
Note you do not need any sort of power  or electrical converter you only need to change the shape of the plug. The power supply in the Mac is universal.
