Apple installed 'stuff' pop-ups

How can I stop the annoying pop ups--probably installed by Apple--from showing up instead of my Screen Savers? Today it was an iPhone advertisement. I vaguely remember using an application called TinkerTool in the past and I have updated my version of it. The problem? I don't know how to find the troubling pop ups so I can delete them.
Help!!

This is really not so complicated. The RSS Visualizer is part of the System; you don't delete it. It allows RSS feeds to supply your screensaver. RSS feeds are direct feeds or links usually to a particular site, often, but not always, news sites. One of the possible RSS feeds to RSS Visualizer is from Apple. This is where the ads are coming from. _If you have Random checked, it will, among the other screensavers, use RSS Visualilzer. This is why you are getting the ads._
If you don't want the ads, you have several options: Uncheck Random and select a particular screensaver, but not RSS Visualizer. Or, check RSS Visualizer and select a different RSS feed, something other than Apple. (But this may still hook you up to someone else's advertising.)
Or don't use screensavers at all; use display sleep.

My Firefox browser has been overtaken by the "install Torch Browser" and "www.newhtsoft.com - Free home tab" pop up screens. These pop ups continue to request I download and install their software. Currently, this appears to be only affecting Firefox, but I've read this can also affect other browsers. I am not a programer or experienced root user, but if there is a fix, I would welcome all feedback. Below is my system profiler report:

The too-full hard disk drive is an issue to contend with, a backup to external hard disk drive is recommended, then you can remove any user created (itunes, iphoto, movies) once reliable libraries are moved or copied to the external. There is a way to move libraries, etc correctly so they can be used by their associated applications.
That is not why I am writing now.
I'm curious about how your computer arrived at possibly having adware installed, and what kind it has in it, or at least in the Firefox browser (or other locations) since the Install Torch is a proof of some kind of adware... And you should look into
•The Safe Mac: Adware Removal Guide
    http://www.thesafemac.com/arg/
From a web site suggesting another path to cure that, the following suggests anyone with the issue you describe to download & install some probably bogus removal tools to be rid of the stuff your computer is doing, but really the answer is in the Adware removal guide....
"Victims often notice Torch Browser or Torch add-ons and extensions such as Torch Music installed onto their computers without consent. if this is the case, it is likely that Torch Browser bundled with previous downloads including freeware, shareware, codecs, and torrents. Torch Browser primarily bundles with media related software including video converters and P2P clients, as well as third-party browser add-ons, extensions, plug-ins, and Toolbars."    -- this, from a possibly bogus site where one could get an Uninstaller; but their removal tool can be a source of bigger problems, since it Installs more stuff.
The adware known as Conduit has been said to probably be behind this but there may be others. There are a few things the Safe Mac pages can help you find out about the item affecting your browser. These adware malware items can affect other browsers, in the same way it may have affected your FireFox. This appears to have been going on for a time, and likely has evolved since it first appeared a year or two ago.
So, this is something to look into.
    Good luck & happy computing!

Your brother may have downloaded and installed something known as "adware." To see if that's the case, visit thomas_r.'s The Safe Mac website and look at the Adware Removal Guide page. You may also be able to use his Adware Removal Tool to get rid of the junk.

I cannot access iTunes store from my laptop. I could for years but suddenly - no.
Have removed all recently installed software. Have uninstalled and re-installed both my anti-virus software and iTunes.
    Have allowed pop-ups.
    Have flushed the DNS. Nothing.
Still can't access the store. Please help!

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

"Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services"

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • I use MacIntosh, system 10.5.8. But I keep getting pop-ups . I have tried to install Firefox and it responds saying it is not compatible with my systems architecture. What should I do to stop the pop-up?

I use G4 MacIntosh, System 10.5.8. I keep getting pop-ups asking me to upgrade my version of Firefox. But when I try to install I get the message that Firefox cannot operate with my computers architecture. How can I stop the pop-ups?

I believe Firefox 4 is Intel only. That means it will not install on a PPC Mac. You can get TenFourFox, which is made for PPCs.

  • I was doing some stuff with torrents and now pop ups are everywhere. I deleted everything I downloaded that had to deal with them but the pop ups are still occurring. Does anyone know what to do? I do have AppleCare and was wondering if they could help.

I was downloading some stuff off of piratebay and I downloaded utorrent. I went back on my MacBook Pro later and found a bunch of pop ups on safari and a completely different safari format. I reset safari cleared everything deleted the stuff I downloaded and they are still occurring. I was wondering if it is an easy fix and /or AppleCare might be able to help me. Do I have a virus?

I would agree with kevin_, it sounds like you have downloaded some adware.
Torrents and piracy sites are extremely dangerous, and you should stop downloading from such places immediately! They have become very common sources for adware and malware on the Mac... really, the only common source, to be honest. You practically can't swing a stick in such places without hitting something malicious.
Stop downloading stolen content, provided by untrustworthy criminals, or you'll have this problem repeat itself. Next time it might be worse than simple adware.

  • OfficeJet "New HP... cartridge installed" pop-ups won't quit

HP Officejet 7310 All-in-One:  Two pop-ups for “New HP Photo Print Cartridge [and Tri-color Print Cartridge] successfully installed” appear at monitor center EVERY time I print.  My printer is directly connected to my PC, my work requires pop-ups enabled, and I frequently have to “Print current page” of a pdf.  Each pop-up has to be dismissed before I can use mouse or keyboard.  Happening for 2 months now. How can I turn these off?

    Hello kenishal,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Sorry to hear that the Officejet Pro 8500 is not printing its colors correctly, usually this type of issue is resolved by replacing the printhead. Hopefully we can get the printer past "checking device" to see if it has resolved the problem.
You can try removing and installing the printheads and the cartridges again, here is a walk through guide: 'Initializing' Displays on the All-in-One for Longer Than Expected During Setup.
If that helps get the printer to finish "checking device" and you are still having the missing or incorrect color issue, take a look through this support page: Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality.
Let me know if those suggestions have helped.

Just installed Malwarebyte and i am still getting unwanted pop ups and new windows.

You can supplement your Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan with some other tools Firefox users have found effective. See: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
But it also makes sense to check a couple of things manually.
    (1) Extensions installed in Firefox
Open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then take a careful look and disable everything you either don't recognize or don't use regularly. If Firefox prompts you to restart to make the change effective, you can do that as the last step after completing your review of the list.
    (2) Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program
Click the "Installed on" column heading to bring the most recent infections, I mean, additions, to the top. This is useful in revealing bundles that may have snuck unwanted software onto your PC. Remove everything you don't remember choosing intentionally.
    Any improvement?

  • How do i get keychain off my computer!?!?! Ive tried absolutely everything, keychain won't reset itself. Ive done everything anyone has suggested in apple support. Keep getting pop ups, mail won't work any more, i can't do ANYTHING.

Every time i log into my computer, i get bombarded with pop ups asking me for numerous passwords, i enter the CORRECT ones in for my email accounts and they keep coming up, i cant do anything to get this off. Keychains suck i dont know why anyone would have made these.
I go to the keychain preferences in finder and i try to unlock the local items keychain but it wont because i dont know the password, ive tried any password it could possibly be and it wont go through. I also cant reset it becasue it says "invalid aegument" every time i try to do that in First Aid.
Everything anyone has said to do wont help. I cant even get my mail accounts to come online but they still work in my phone. I even downloaded the newest version 10.9 or whatever and it doesnt work. My mail accounts are all screwed up, so is icloud, and messages app i cant even use it. ive restarted my computer a million times so dont suggest that either.
Oh and for those of you who are going to tell me to go to /library/keychain or anything like that, my computer says that the file or folder doestn exist.

Please follow the directions in this support article. If there's no change, see below.
Back up all data. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to keep or delete the keychain items. Choose to delete and confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.
