Apple intentially delays shipment

Do you know apple has an agreement with ups to delay shipment intentially?

There are many different agreements and tiers of shipping, and new ones are being invented every day. (For example, express delivery to your nearest US Post Office, for final delivery by your mail carrier.)
I expect what has happened is that Apple approached UPS and said, "We want a very low cost way of shipping hundreds of thousands of items, with signature on delivery."  And I imagine  UPS responded, "We can meet your cost targets if you allow us ship 'space-available, low priority'. This will mean that if the trucks are full of higher-priority stuff, your packages may be held for up to 5 days at any point in the system."
I do not think this is an International Conspiracy.
I believe Apple will allow you to pay for overnight express shipping, if that is what you desire.

  • Apple TV Delay

    Hey..
When i turn on my Apple TV and then switch the input on my TV from TV to HDMI, it says no signal and nothing happens. Only when i try to use the control and switch back to TV and then back to HDMI it suddenly works. It's like there is a kind of delay on the TV, so i get the picture from the Apple TV after maybe 5-7 minutes, cause i can hear the sounds from the apple tv meneu. So it's just the picture.
Anyone who knows how i can fix this "delay" problem ?

It may be that AppleTV can't see your TV's HDMI input when another input is selected so it assumes you're using component (only one or other can be active) - all the subsequent switching probably make Appletv aware the HDMI is now live.
HDMI can be problematic as it isn't passive technology - both devices talk to each other to determine what audio/video specs they can both handle correctly - if AppleTv can't talk to the HDMI port if it's deselected then it won't know how to display video and will output over component.
Any reason you couldn't use component in on the TV with audio across analogue cable?
When HDMI works it's great but it's not always perfect IMO.

  • Wishlist: Apple Mail delayed send

    Wishlist for Apple Mail.
I would really like to have the option to send emails at scheduled times with Apple Mail. I.e. Send email on Monday 8:00am as to not send out work related emails over the weekend, but first thing Monday morning (in order not to annoy colleagues who get alerts on their iPhone when new mail arrives). Microsoft
Outlook seems to have mastered this feature, I am sure Apple can do the same.
For now I will have to use 3rd party tool Mail Scripts.
    Thanks.

That's great, but does no good posting here. We're just users like yourself.
In the Mail menu, there is an option to send feedback to apple. That is the appropriate way to request enhancements.

  • Apple Mail delay

For some reason I have to wait 10-15 minutes for Apple Mail to retrieve my email messages. It always eventually comes in but clicking "check for new mail" does nothing. Clicking that button also does nothing after I've already received my new mail.
I've seen other similar discussions but nothing that offers a solution this predictable problem.
Also is there a log file where I can see what's happening behind the scenes?
    thanks,
    Scott

  • How did you all get your new alum iMacs so quickly?

As you can see from my profile, it it time for a new Mac! I have been told by various Mac suppliers in my area that they would not get their shipments of alum iMacs until the end of August. I tried to get one through the Apple online store, same release date.
However, since reading this forum, as well as the display forum, I am starting to have second thoughts, due to the calibration and screen quality issues.
Could it be that Apple is delaying shipments now, because they are busy fixing the bugs in the screen?
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Thanks for the replies, folks.
+A handful of people who do not actually own a new iMac have generated a large number of posts about glossy screens and color matching between the iMac monitor and paper printing being unsuitable for professional graphics design work. It's a tempest in a teapot as far as the rest of us go.+
I am beginning to agree with this statement! It is easy getting caught in "the tempest" while one is reading all the various posts. It is heartening to read more and more posters having positive experiences with the new iMacs. I am not a graphic artist, designer, nor a professional photographer. I do use iphoto and photoshop to "tweak" my family photos. I also enjoying tinkering with idvd and imovie with my kids. My son especially enjoys making stop action Lego movies! My PowerPC has handled these tasks admirably, yet slowly, so it is time to move on.
I don't rush into any purchase of this sort without extensive research and reading. I obviously get full value out of my computer purchase (10+ years since the last one), and I don't feel the need to buy another computer anytime soon.
Now I just need to decide on the 20" or the 24". Any thoughts?

  • Apple preps second software fix for flickering 27-inch iMacs

    Monday, January 25, 2010 - 12:06 PM EST
    By AppleInsider Staff
    Published: 11:50 AM EST
AppleCare technicians: A second fix for screen flickering affecting the hardware is due within 3 weeks.
In a thread on the Apple Discussions forums that spans nearly 250 pages, users have begun to report conversations with AppleCare representatives who claim a new update is forthcoming. A month ago, Apple released a software fix for the flickering issue on the 27-inch iMac, but since then users have said it did not address the problem. One user, Dennis Murphy, said he was told that AppleCare technicians were issued a bulletin on Saturday that stated a fix would be released in about three weeks. The Apple employee was allegedly instructed to collect customer contact information so they can be reached when the fix is released.
"This would clearly explain the extended shipping times we're seeing," Murphy wrote on the forums.
Last week, Apple delayed shipment of new direct-order 27-inch iMacs by three weeks. Supply issues have persisted for months, with Apple in December apologizing for the delays.
Another poster, GuiltyVerdict, wrote Saturday that an Apple representative told them a combination software and driver patch is due in roughly three weeks. "This will reportedly resolve the issue of the screen flickering (it is not hardware causing the issue)," the user wrote.
The three weeks allegedly cited by AppleCare technicians would coincide with the existing three-week wait time for direct orders of 27-inch iMacs. However, when contacted by AppleInsider Monday, an Apple representative said the three-week delay was not related to any hardware issues. Instead, they said the company has had trouble meeting up with demand for the new system, as some components are in limited availability. Still others have indicated system's internal graphics card cable could be the culprit. User ferris666 said they spoke with a technician who said the problem with the cable could not be fixed with a firmware update, though the "simple fix" has been implemented in newly produced machines.
While most of the reports are tied to the 27-inch model, there are also users who have experienced the same symptoms with the 21.5-inch model. When it debuted in October, the new iMac was the best-selling desktop in the U.S. for the month. Various issues were reported quickly, though the screen flickering has remained for some time.

I am not the engineer that you requested, but I think that you are missing the boat with the question. The 27" iMac already accepts 1080p. Any new Mac with a mini-DisplayPort can connect with the 27" iMac with a simple and inexpensive m-DP to m-DP cable and drive the iMac's display at its full resolution, 2560x1440 pixels.
So if this is a bassackwards way of inquiring about why an XBox or some other device is limited to 720p, it is because the adapter (~US$150) used limits the resolution to 720p. If you use a scaler (~US$299), which has its own graphics chip, instead of an adapter, then it can drive the iMac's display at 1080p.

  • 11/14 Shipment but no tracking number?

My iPhone 6+ was supposed to ship yesterday on the 14th but I haven't received any updated information. My order still says processing and the shipment date remains 11/14. Anyone else in the same boat?

Thanks Ashley. After calling the number above three (3) different times, I finally found someone who could provide a status update on my order for the 128GB space gray iPhone 6 plus. This very nice woman found a note in their system for my order that was supposedly sent out via email to me yesterday (which never came). It acknowledges a delivery/backorder/shipment issue. I asked the rep if she could resend the email. But, the best she could do was text me a snippet of the message which states "....FREE VZW MSG-DO NOT REPLY: order status update device order will be delayed from 11/14/2014 ship date, to New ship date of 12/05/2014" The information obviously outlines a new ship date of 12/5. When I was visiting with service rep 2 of 3 before being mysteriously being hung up on, she also claimed there would be a $10 credit applied to the bill for this delayed shipment issue. But, it's all still a supply/demand issue compounded by some kind of "other" logistics issue at Verizon regarding the product that was supposed to be shipped on 11/14/2014. Thus, my order along with numerous others are now part of the latest anticipated batch of new product arrivals which will fulfill orders with a shipment date of 12/5/2014. This same date can be found currently (as of 11/15/2014) online at verizonwireless.com when ordering my model of phone. It would appear something happened to the batch due to deliver to Verizon and ship on 11/14/2014. Now our orders have apparently been reset for an entirely new anticipated APPLE delivery to Verizon. So, at least for us unfortunate customers who lost out in this last issue/batch, we at least have a new target ship date for our orders. Best of luck to everyone. At this rate...we might get an iPhone 7 someday. But, don't plan to get an update from Verizon - it appears they just don't have a process/system capable of handling the customer communications surrounding these kinds of supply/demand/backorder/shipment.

  • 27" iMac - - safe to buy from Apple Store now ?

With all the issues going on where Apple then had delayed shipments 2 weeks presumably due to the issues, do you think we are good to go now ?
I notice there is still a 1 week lead time online.
    Thoughts ?
    TIA.
    flyer

I am a MCSE and have been in IT for 18 years dealing with MS products. I was forced into buying an iMac by my wife because "it would look better in our living room". (She buys cars the same way... it drives me nuts.) I haven't owned an apple product since the Apple IIc.
Then we got the the iMac two weeks ago and it had the screen flickering problem.
So, nobody wants to hate this thing more than I do and I just can't. The "magic mouse" is the greatest user interface achievement since the original mouse. The OS is easy to use and is intuitive even for a Windows geek like me. The engineering put into the overall design (screen problems aside) is far better than anything else on the market. And honestly, it does look good in the living room, but don't tell my wife.
When the screen flickering problem started I started the inevitable rant about how this never happened to me with other machines. Then my wife reminded me that the Dell we bought 2 years ago had a random high volume screeching noise coming from the sound card and that Dell never actually acknowledged the problem.
We called Apple support and got a super helpful tech support person. She began to describe how to download the firmware update and I quickly cut her off and told her that had already been done. She immediately gave me the choice of repair or replacement. I didn't need to argue or complain. It was just that simple. I chose repair because I feared I might get another machine from stock that had the same issue.
    So far, I'm quite impressed.

  • Infinite shipping delay in the MacBook Pro Retina to Europe

Does anyone know why Apple is delaying the shippment of the MacBook Pro Retina every week?
I bought one more than a month ago and every week they extend the shipping estimate date. I'm thinking on return it back. The sadness is that I already have my useless Thunderbolt Cinema Display, and a also useless Thunderbolt hard drive which I don't know if they work properly because I don't have the computer to test them!!
Does anyone know something about this?

  • DELAY parameter while Primary Crashed

    Hi All,
The application requirement is to have 15mins of DELAY on standby, so that when disaster occur, the application will suggest that out of 15mins, how many minutes of archives to be applied manually, ie point in time recovery.
For database version 11.2.0.3 on linux, in a dataguard setup what is the behaviour of MRP on standby database if 'DELAY parameter is set and Primary database crashes'.
Will the delayed archives be applied by MRP once DELAY is over, or they will remain untouched ( so that these can be recovered manually to some point in time)
    Kindly suggest.
    Rgds,
    Sanjay

    Hello;
    They will be applied.
Delay does not delay shipment of redo. It merely instructs the apply processes of the target database.
Source Chapter 2 of the Data Guard Handbook - page 84.
So if you don't want them to apply you would need to stop MRP.

  • Where are the next shipments of iPhone 3G's?

I figured maybe someone here might be able to provide me some insight to the question; Where are all of (new shipments of) the iPhone 3G's?
I believed Apple would insured shipments were made to all their stores so that Tuesday there would have been more, and Wednesday, and so on until sales started to drop off where daily shipments were no longer necessary. Much to my disbelief, Monday and Tuesday shows no new shipments made to apparently anywhere in VA, MD, NJ, PA, OH, IA, IN, TN, KY, DE, CT, MA, NH, RI, or NY. There is a store here and a store there in some of those 15 states that shows one of them in stock, but essentially, they are gone. If you look at California and New York where the flagship stores are, they have some (probably a large quantity) of each of the 3 choices of the iPhone 3G.
Monday may have been an 'Out of Stock' day because phones couldn't be shipped out on Sunday but, what I don't understand is how on a Tuesday there are extremely few, if any to be found in the states I mentioned. What was the logic used when Apple decided that only after 9PM can you check the availability of the phone for the next day and not have some sort of 'real-time' tracking. Does this mean that if a store gets a shipment at 2PM this afternoon and you happen to be in the store (again, the store in my area won't answer their phone) you can purchase one, or are those phones only available for the next day? Even AT&T is providing 'real-time' (or at least semi-real-time) availabilty for the customer's that chose to go the Direct Fulfillment route.
The local Apple store doesn't answer the phone anymore (even AT&T stores are answering, they just start off with '...we don't have iPhone's...'). I understand they are busy but as a minimum level of customer service, someone should always be stationed to answer the phone for customer's. When I went into the store I was greated with a blank stare while I asked about availability then politely advised; '...no, sorry, we don't have any right now and we don't know when we're getting anymore, but check the web site tonight...'.
The AT&T stores (Apple's premiere partner) can't even get any to sell (other than using Direct Fulfillment), Apple stores now answering their phones, and now the online availability showing no phones in stock 5 days after release within a 15 state area. I think that demands that questions be asked to individuals at Apple's corporate level that determined the marketing and supply strategies for a major product release like this.
I congratulate Apple on the milestone achievement of selling 1 million iPhone 3G's in a 3 day period, but I find it difficult to believe that a global leader like Apple would have failed to anticipate this kind of demand and the response to consumers to be '...we don't have anymore...' or '...we have a shortage problem...'. The question again; Where are the new iPhone 3G's, and when will they be available for us to purchase again? If the statement that stores are getting shipments daily is true...

Thanks Nathan, and that's where I have been checking at since Friday evening. IMO though, it's only 50% effective simply because it isn't real time, you can only check it for the 11 - 12 hours a location is closed. If a location receives stock in at 11am today, well you wouldn't know that unless you go into the store every day and ask (and most likely you're not going to get an answer from the store reps other than what I noted above) or after 9PM. A leader in the computer industry such as Apple should be more than capable to provide real-time tracking of produc availability (in fact, they do it all the time for their online store).
Right now, it's not so much that I can't tell whether a store has stock or not but more of why isn't the phone in stock in most of 15 states on the Tuesday after the launch weekend? Is Apple sold out? Are the stores holding them until this weekend for another 'spectacle' event? Why don't the stores answer their phones to advise customers during the day if the shipment 'they receive most days' is there and you can stop in and pick one up?
Bottom line, my opinion is that the management of the release, distribution and sales of this particular product (at least where I'm at) is lacking the minimum level of customer service that should be the standard in the industry, let alone for Apple.

  • Complain the apple service

    hi,
i am really really angry about the service.  last time(case number:285365813) is 27/1/2012 i contact you said i need  a receipt with iemi no. Because my cell phone is lost, the insurance company need a receipt with iemi number. But it has been more than 10 days, I still have not received. Insurance company inform my last term is Tuesday. If haven't given them will be cancel my claim...
your staff always tell me wait 2 to 7 days, but it already 11 days, i still not receive.....
the insurance company cancel my claim already..because you i cant claim my iphone back... because you i lose my phone. i really really hate the apple service....really hate.
apple uk service is really bad..

hi. i do not think this is the right place to escalate this concern but let's just hope this will create a visibility to apple support personnels joining this forum as well... most of the people here are also users and not apple employees.
first things first.. did you p[rovide what is needed to have your request processed?
you also have to inform apple about the insurance, and vice versa, the insurance company also needs to know that apple has delayed response (assuming that you have already provided everything they need for your request to be processed)
double check that the fault or gating item here is not actually you.
since you are the customer, you need to be more aggressive towards Apple. if you have to demand to speak to the managers, do so. you have all the right because you are the customer...

    EDIT:
MSI,Gigabyte,Sapphire,Asus pages were updated just minutes later!

...or maybe there is just so much demand that they need to produce enough of them first
Though I would prefer that Apple is delaying because of the newer card and lower noise, that's always a bonus.

  • I have lost respect for Apple and AT&T

I canceled my iPad order because of this deal with them eliminating the unlimited plan. I placed my order for my iPad on May 26th and it wasn't due to ship until June 15th. I think Apple purposely delayed my order until after the change in the plan.
I also heard at work that some of the iPads might be over heating. They shut off outside from what I have heard. I don't know if there is any truth to that or not. All I have to say is shame on Apple and shame on AT&T.
I bought the Google Nexus One instead and I think I will be much happier plus I am paying a lot less for the device.
To be honest, I feel like I dodge a bullet here.
I don't know what you guys think, but those are my feelings.
    Matt

Oh I know, but on the other side of the coin. The Nexus will be easier to carry around.
Good and bad. Either way what is done is done. If you would like I can still let you know what I think of the new phone. I get it tomorrow.
    Regards,
    Matt
