Apple iPod and AAC/MP4-Audio experiences

Hi,
i'm looking for Arch users who have experiences with the integration
and using of the Appe iPod with AAC/MP4-Audio.
Is gtkpod the first selection ?
Is AAC/MP4 possible with Arch linux ?
Etc.
Thank you and

Linux can play AAC and MP4 if that's what you meant
Yes,
for me it is intesting, what kind of program is nearly to iTunes
(gtkpod or amarok for example) without a virtualisation to use iTunes
direct.
So in this case it is important to manage AAC/MPEG4-Audio files for me.
I heard it is a little bit tricky under Linux and i don't found realy a good
solution.
And this is the reason why i took this forum to collect some experiences
what kind of piece of software is good and manage AAC/MPEG4-Audio
(direct). So in this case what i need for a full support and and and.

  • Repeat One!... developers of apple iPod and iTunes read this!

It’s not an issue I think anyone can help me with but I hope the developers of apple iPod and iTunes read this.
I am a full supporter and user of both iTunes and iPod…. But some things have always bugged me. :P
    Repeat one
Can you please, for everyone’s sake, fix the repeat one function? Yes, when the ipod gets to the end of the song I want it to repeat the song ones more. But when I select next (>>) I’m sick of the song and wound like the next one. But instead it just starts over on the same track.
Today I have to click menu, scroll down and select play on the next song to move forward… meaning I actually have to take the iPod out of my pocket and see what I’m doing.
    iTunes music library.
Another thing which would have been practical in these holiday times would be a separate music library function for iTunes. In other words be able to select, load and save different library for different usages.
    Why you say?....
1.I don’t need my holyday Christmas songs clogging up my library in the summer.
2.When I do sound work for animations I like to have my sound FX and background music outside of my music list.
3.Some people are, (believe it or not), ashamed of some of their music and would like to store theme where no one can se them. Say I invite the boys over for some iron maiden and they end up finding my backstreet boys album. (yikes)
4.Say you have some very privet videos or sound books you don’t want your kids to here or see.
5.When I need background music for some tabletop role-playing I wand them in a separate list as well.
    6.ETC
And before you say it… NO… play lists, and do not include in shuffle isn’t the solution…. neither is users. Have you even seen how terrible Microsoft user system works? (Yes I know get a MAC, but you can’t always play that card.)
This function really shouldn’t be difficult to make since you have the “iTunes Library.itl” file already.
This is just my opinion so fare, but if anyone agrees or disagrees; Pleas post a reply.
It’s all in good fun… As I said, I love my iPod and iTunes except for these issues. (Well I could talk about volume but… naaa, enough badgering for one night :P)
    Best of days

  • Apple Trailers and 5.1 Audio Channels - Two Channels Substituted For Six?

    Hi there,
Not a huge technical question, as this is more of a personal inquiry. Last year, when HD trailers would release on Apple's trailer page, the trailers contained six channels of audio, creating a surround sound experience. Through Quicktime, one could inspect the audio elements of the trailer, and extract specific channels. For instance, if I wanted to listen to the voice overs without the music, I could just extract the center track from the trailer.
Lately, I've noticed that every trailer I download is encoded in stereo, containing only left and right channels. Instead of the six channels that once existed, there are now only two. Thus, I don't have the freedom that Quicktime once allowed in terms of separating channels, listening to isolated bits, etc., not to mention that the trailers are no longer true 5.1 surround sound.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a technical problem on my end, or has Apple stopped receiving/releasing trailers with six channel audio encoding?
Any information on the topic would be most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Corey

    Has anyone else noticed this?
    Yes.
Is it a technical problem on my end
Not as far as I can tell.
has Apple stopped receiving/releasing trailers with six channel audio encoding?
More likely it is just a way to conserve time and effort in generating the trailers ("the bottom line" concept) which are more likely to be watched on 2-channel equipment while the entire feature film is more likely to be viewed on on a 6-channel "home entertainment" system.

  • Head Spinning on Creating a Apple Lossless and AAC libraries

I am contemplating archiving all my CDs to an Applelossless library using iTunes. Before doing so, I have some questions. We are in a WIN XP environment.
    1) How do I convert an Apple Lossless album to AAC format with all the album info in tack to a separate iTunes library?
    2) How do I give multiple WIN XP users access to this single AAC library via iTunes to load their iPod or buy music for this single AAC library?
    3) If I add CDs to the Apple Lossless library using iTunes, is there a way to keep the AAC library automatically in sync?
Is there a better approach I should consider?
    Thanks for the help experts!

To set up another library in the same Windows user account hold down the shift key when starting iTunes. In one library have your lossless files. In the other library have the AAC files. In the second library import the lossless files with settings set to convert to AAC. To allow multiple users access to the same file store the library where they both have access. Each library is independent, changes in one are not made in the other automatically. You will have to add to one in lossless, go to other library then import the files there.
Better approach. Maybe. I think it is a waste of space to use Apple lossless. My hearing can't tell from AAC 192k from CD. So I just use AAC at 192k or 160k. Even lower for audiobooks.

  • Apple TV and 5.1 audio from PPro 4.2

Has anyone been able to get 5.1 audio working when Encoding for the Apple TV?
I have no problem exporting 2 channel audio at the 960x540x30p or 1280x720x24p but would love know how to get 5.1 audio working. The ATV supports it.
    Anyone have any pointers/links?
    Thanks in advance
    Tom

    Tom,
Thank you for the info on Apple TV. I have to admit that I had never heard of it before.
Am I to infer from your post above that 5.1 audio on PPro CS4 (4.2)... I have the Creative Collection edition is "trial ware" only?
That is correct. PrPro ships with the SurCode DD 5.1 SS plug-in encoder, but it is limited to 3 uses (unless that has changed). Once one has used it those initial 3 times, one cannot use it again. If they choose the DD 5.1 SS AC3 Export, they will be prompted to buy the plug-in. [Note: if one wishes to purchase the plug-in, Minnetonka, the distributor of the SurCode plug-in, offers a deal for Adobe users. It is available from the pop-up screen within PrPro. This will save money over going directly to Minnetonka Audio. Buy from within PrPro.] Also note that this IS a plug-in and all encoding can be done directly from within PrPro, unlike the two multi-channel types below.
Now, both DTS and Pro Logic II are also available from Minnetonka Audio. They are separate encoders and are only available (now) as stand-alone programs. One can Export from PrPro, and then Import the Audio files into these programs, for full DTS, or Dolby Pro Logic II compliant files.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Cannot install Apple iPod and iTune downloads (invalid digital signature)

Every time I try to install something from apple.com it won't let me. It brings up a message box that says something like "Invalid digital signatue" and it won't even give me a choice as to whether or not to download it. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you fix it?

I try different browsers and they all have certificate notice alert.
New IE on win8 by default not allow to enter secure page with expire certificates.
I hope that cisco will make new firmeware with functionality to add costume certificate pfx for example.
Cisco support lower encryption type. Every new windows encrase cryptograpgi that IE support by default. Look IE about to see type 64 or 128 or 256…
On xp will work good, but we are now in era of win 8 with IE that support by default 128 or 256 depending home or server version.

  • Hey i have a question regarding the apple ipod and return which hopefully--

    could be easily answered.'
Hey my name is Isaac. I am an earlier buyer of the Ipod got it a week or two into sales. When i got my ipod at first it would freeze way too often. My case is to plead for another one although it wasn't successfull,(apple service) well anyway so my screen is pretty bad right now so, scratches are horrible. the case which the ipod came with didn't work, so it's getting hard for me to watch anything on the video, plus there's a couple of dead pixels. So the problem is do you think they'll send me another one, for retutrn of course

Thanks for the help

    Hey Astronomer9893,
You’re actually looking at two different models here.  The one displayed on BestBuy.com is an IP99BR, while the other one is a ZM9B.  Both models are made by iHome, so that would certainly explain why they look so similar.
According to the manufacturer’s website, the IP99BR is only able to support a limited number of iPod models.  The ZM9B on the other hand, is only compatible with docking Zune models.  For more information though I would strongly suggest checking out iHome’s website:

    Hope this helps you out!

I have checked the Apple Device Manager and stiff,

Problem: The device appears on Windows as "Apple iPod" and iTunes does not detect my device.
The AutoPlay is set to "Do Nothing"
    There Are two Autoplay entries,

  • Two iPads, an iPhone, an iPod, and a Nano

First off, Merry Christmas to everyone!
And it has been a very merry christmas for my family (me, my wife, and daughter.)  And this is because my mother gave us super gifts! An iPad for me and my wife, and a Nano for my 6-year-old daughter.  My wife also has an exisiting iPhone 4G, and I have an iPod 4.
I am new to Apple hardware and iTunes; my only experience is with the iPod.  Then came my wife's iPhone (hand-me-down from my sister; factory reset). I was able to sync it with iTunes.  But now comes my biggest probklem - how on earth do I sync all these devices on a single computer, single user (Windows 7)?!  (We both have separate AppleIDs.)
When we opened our new iPads, I synced mine first. Then I synced my wife's.  That was easy enough since both were empty.  But now that we've started downloading and installing our own apps, I'm finding syncing a bit confusing.  I synced my wife's first; then when I synced mine, the apps on the iTunes were all greyed out.  So I did what an apple help article suggested, I created an new iTunes library for myself (press Shift when starting iTunes).  So I got mine synced.  When I tried to sync my wife's, this time her iTunes apps were greyed out.  How come?  I thought hers would be the default library.  Now I'm afraid to sync her iPhone because I might accidentally sync and erase whatever is on our iPads and iPhone.
So, how do I use these?  I want to be able to sync our iPads/iPhone without ever seeing those greyed out icons.  Should I turn off iTunes before syncing with a different unit (ipad, iphone)?  No matter which appleID I use, it still reads iTunes Dad on the top.  Can someone help me out, step by step?  I am really new to this.  (If I have to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it to make things easier, I can do that.)
On a slightly similary note, my daughter's nano came with preloaded songs; my sister set it up, but using her MacPro.  When I try to sync it on our computer, it says it needs to reformat it.  Anyway I can backup the music first before reformatting?
TIA and again, happy holidays to everyone!

I'm really stumped.  I haven't synced my wife's iPad yet, but now when I sync my iPad, everything she downloaded on her iPad was downloaded on the iTunes and synced onto my iPad.  Can someone help me please?

  • How do you play the radio with an iPod and the docking station model RDP-M5iP

I purchased an iPod docking station model RDP-M5iP and I cannot play the radio.  It says to plug in the headphones for radio reception but that does nothing.  Is there any way to use the radio portion of the iPod with this model?

    Hello Roger,
    Welcome to Sony Community.
This Personal Audio Docking System does not have built in radio and it seems you are playing radio from the connected iPod and wish to get the audio from Docking System Speakers. You may try checking the radio reception in the iPod. Also, you may try to playback music in the iPod and check if audio is output from the Docking System Speakers.

  • Thunar without XFCE, can't eject iPod and other travails.. [solved]

I'm trying to get my Thunar set up to where it automatically shows my ipod when plugged in, but I can right click the icon to unmount it as well.
I used the udev wiki to add a set of rules for automounting usb devices, so my ipod now automatically loads, but there are two problems.
    1. There are two icons for the ipod in the Thunar shortcuts pane. One says Apple iPod and shows an error on left click of 'Failed to mount "Apple iPod Music Player" - Given device "/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/ volume_part1_size_41094144" is not a volume or drive.'
    2. The second icon shows the name of my ipod and I can click it to view the drive, great, but on right clicking and choosing Unmount Volume, it shows an error of 'Failed to unmount "iPod" - The volume "iPod" was probably mounted manually on the command line.'
And a seperate, but perhaps related problem is when I press the eject button on my CDROM drive, an error shows as 'Failed to eject "/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_mode_DVD_RW_ND_3540A". Right clicking the icon in Thunar and choosing eject does work for this, though I'd prefer to be able to use the eject button.
Does anyone have any ideas on a way to fix these problems?
    Thanks!

Nonono...there's a bug with thunar-volman and ipods that causes them to load twice and whinge about it.  Note that loading two devices is, as far as I know, the intended outcome, since ipods have a mysterious second partition for storing the hopes and dreams of steve jobs himself.  I don't really know what it's for, but you can use an hal policy file (fdi file) to prevent hal from loading it.
The bug has to do with thunar-volman trying to load it and failing.  You can view the bug here:
    http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2789
Actually, that's a command.  You'll need the first two diffs for the fix: thunar-volman-mount-only-mountable.diff and thunar-vfs-add-is-mountable.diff
First, we'll fix thunar with the following PKGBUILD:
    # $Id: PKGBUILD,v 1.8 2007/06/01 22:28:43 tobias Exp $

    make DESTDIR=${startdir}/pkg install
    sed -i 's:x-directory/gnome-default-handler;::' ${startdir}/pkg/usr/share/applications/Thunar-folder-handler.desktop
Stick thunar-vfs-add-is-mountable.diff in the same directory, and add the install file (call it thunar.install):

and makepkg -i to install it.  Now let's tackle thunar-volman.
    First the PKGBUILD:

    --localstatedir=/var --disable-static
    make || return 1
    make DESTDIR=${startdir}/pkg install
Then add the thunar-volman-mount-only-mountable.diff file, and the install file (call it thunar-volman.install):
    post_install() {
    gtk-update-icon-cache -q -t -f usr/share/icons/hicolor
    post_upgrade() {
    post_install $1
    post_remove() {
    gtk-update-icon-cache -q -t -f usr/share/icons/hicolor
    op=$1
    shift
    $op $*
    and makepkg -i again.
They also provide an fdi in the bug report to prevent the extra piece from mounting, but I haven't gotten it to work.  At least the bugs are gone.
BTW I found these trolling through the ubuntu gutsy launchpad.
