Apple iPod Camera Connector(how it works?)

Does the Apple iPod Camera Connector just convert a USB to a apple dock connector? Can the same be achieved by using the USB cable and a USB Female-Female adaptor?

It is the camera's transfer protocol/how the camera transfers the images.

  • Apple iPod Camera Connector and iPod shuffle to ditch the FM transmitter?

In the latest Wired magazine Test issue there are a number of hardwire setups for playing your iPod through your car's stereo. Most of the hardwires are for iPod and Nano. Could you use the Apple iPod Camera Connector as an interface so your shuffle will play through the hardwire system? The connector has a USB port on it and the dock connector so it would attach to the hardwire system.
    In theory that works right?

Nope wouldn't work. IF you have a stereo with an Ipod interface though you would probably also have an AUX port you could use to plug into the Shuffle's earphone port.

  • Apple iPod Camera Connector

    Hi,
I just wonder if Apple iPod Camera Connector will be compatible with iPod 3th Generation. Apple website doesn’t say it will but I am trying to send pictures to my iPod only, not to watch them later on color display like on 4th Generation iPods.
    Any comments welcome.
    Peter

It won't as it requires the iPod Photo software v1.1 to work. You'll have to buy one of the two possible Belkin solutions. One has a USB port (like the Apple one) and the other has a card reader option.

  • 5G iPod with Apple iPod Camera Connector

Does Apple iPod Camera Connector able to download the movies (in .MPG format) which capture from my Sony camera to 5G iPod? If not, any suggestion?

I believe the Connector works only for stills.
Anyway, Sony is one of the more un-Mac-friendly companies out there, so I would not expect much from them.
As for suggestions, I believe it is more a question of what is supported by your camera.
    Good luck

  • IPod Camera Connector won't work with iPod Classic 80GB?

I am trying to connect my iPod Classic (80GB) to my Canon 40D camera--to upload my images directly from camera to iPod. When I try, I get a message saying "Accessory is not supported." My local Apple store genius said that the iPod connectors only work with older iPods. I find it hard to believe that they'd eliminate such an important capacity on a newer version. Is he right? Or is there a way I can make it work?

I have sent Apple feedback a couple times in the past few years asking for the camera connector to come back and work with the ipod touch. The more people ask, the better.
Is it true that the new version of the SDK will allow apps to access the USB interface of the ipod touch? If that happens, then maybe some third party company can make something similar.

  • Can I view photos imported to iPod using Apple iPod Camera Connector

    Hi,
I have an iPod photo and iPod video.
I also have the Belkin Digital Camera Link that I use to downloand photos from my Digital Camera to my iPod whilst away from my computer.
When photos are imported onto the iPod using the Belkin device I can't view the photos on the iPod.
Is this the same case with the Apple Camera Connector?
It would be worth buying if it meant the photos were instantly viewable on the iPod.
    Many Thanks.

How did the photos get on the iPod? If they were synced from another computer you need a third-party program like PhoneView or TouchCopy.

  • How fast is the new iPod Camera Connector

I'm wondering how fast the new $29 Apple iPod Camera Connector is for offloading images from a fast CF card using a fast USB 2.0 card reader? (The older Belkin system for the regular iPods was too slow, in my opinion, to be usable for high capacity memory cards with lots of images.)
If this new option from apple is fast, I'm going to buy an iPod photo right away!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks!

Any chance that you can test with a card reader to see if that works? That is, can you plug an external card reader into the camera connector, remove the card from your camera and plug it in to the card reader, and transfer to the iPod that way? (This would allow one to not burn their camera battery while downloading the images, or to swap out cards and continue taking photos while the first card was dumped to the iPod.)
The Coolpix 3200 is apparently not USB 2 / high-speed compliant, so especially cool would be if you could test with a camera or card reader (if that works at all) that supported USB 2, and report on the speed.
(Yeah, I know I'm asking for a lot. Just in case you're able to check this out.)
While we're at it - any other comments, pro or con, about the camera connector or experience so far?
    Thanks!

  • Smartmedia 128 MB to iPod via iPod Camera Connector?

I have a Smartmedia card reader by Sansdisk that works great on my Mac. I wondered if I could connect it direct to the Apple iPod Camera Connector and my 5G iPod to load photos? How much iPod battery would be drained for the full 128 MB transfer? Or should I use the cable from my Olympus C-700 to go to the Camera Connector? Trouble is I can't find the right power adapter for the C-700, so I'd be draining its batteries too. I thought maybe if I used the media reader I could save battery on my camera at least. Is it possible?

Tried to connect Apple's own iPod Camera connector to the camera as well as to my Sans Disk card reader. Neither worked. So the question is answered in that it isn't possible presently to make it work.

  • My iPods camera, speaker  don't work and the battery needs to be replaced, if I send it into apple will they fix it all?

My iPods camera, speaker  don't work and the battery needs to be replaced, if I send it into apple will they fix it all?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • IPod Camera Connector Speed

I bought the iPod Camera Connector for my Nikon D80 & it works like a charm.....but..... is very slow. It's a slick idea, but cumbersome
It took 40 minutes to download a 1GB card (Sandisk Ultra II) with 260 photos - I want to use the iPod as a backup for photo files while on vacation for 2 weeks.
Does anyone know if there is any way to speed this up?
Is it firmware with the iPod or firmware with the connector itself that controls the download? If so, how about an update APPLE!!! Are you listening??
    Thanks!

i have a belkin and transfer NEF pics to my ipod. an estimate would be 10-15s per pic at 7-8mb each.
    thought that was pretty slow.

  • New Nano and iPod Camera Connector?

I just bought the new iPod Nano (3rd generation) and the iPod Camera Connector.
The iPod is not recognizing the camera connector. When I connect the camera connector to the iPod, I get this message: "Unsupported accessory is not supported".
The genius Apple salesman assured me that it would work. Meanwhile, the camera connector works fine with my iPod Color 60GB model.
Can anyone help me out? Has anyone tried this? I have a funny feeling, (even though the salesman assured me it would work.) that it is not compatible.
    Thanks!

None of the new iPods (Classic, Touch, or 3rd gen Nano) support the camera connector. Based on the fact that other dock connecting accessories which worked with the older iPods don't work with the new ones, it's probably a hardware difference in the dock.
Apple has not announced any new camera connector that will work with the new iPods. Sorry.
