Apple iPod Update Server Error

Whenever I try to run an update for my iPod through iTunes, it comes up with an error that says that "The iPod server network could not be contacted." I have parental controls set up on my computer applied to me, and I'm wondering if that is the case.

Hey there,
It very could be. If possible try this:
1. Head to Start Menu
2. Click Control Panel
3. Look for and click on Network & Internet
4. Click “Internet Settings” from the next menu.
5. When the window pops up, head over to the “Connections” tab.
6. Click on “LAN Settings” located at the bottom.
7. Put a check mark next to “Automatically detect settings”
8. Hit Apply.
Once you have done this, try and complete the update again in iTunes. Hope this helps.

  • Itunes could not contact iPod update server ...not connected to internet

Please help. I have: Win XP Pro, SP2; itunes 7.0.1.8. iPod ver. 1.1 5G Video iPod. Am getting error: "itunes could not contact the iPod update server because you are not connected to the Internet."
But I am connected to the internet, and can download podcasts and access itunes store. But I cannot download ipod ver. 1.2, and thus I assume this is the reason that I am getting incomplete syncs on video podcasts.
I have followed the Apple site's recommendation to ensure the LAN settings button is set to "Automatically Detect Settings" but I still get the error.
I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it again; still getting error. I have disabled my firewall; still no luck.
I welcome any help, please!! Thanks.

I have been trying for 3 hours to make this work -- I've checked the box and tried; unchecked the box; rechecked, rebooted and tried ... you get the picture.
    hmmmm.
by any chance, are you using a proxy? in the context of Store connections, i've seen a problem with a proxy cause a connection issue, even though the network diagnostics looked perfectly clean.
working on that theory, if you are using a proxy perhaps try the techniques from this document:
iTunes for Windows can't access the Internet if proxy settings are incorrect
or perhaps just try to see if the connection to the update server goes through if you if you try this without the proxy.

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Can't connect to the iPod update server

I am trying to restore my 5G iPod with video, but I am not able to connect to the iPod software update server. If there is anywhere that I could manually download the Firmware version 1.3 I would appreciate it. My iPod is currently running firmware version 1.2.2.

The iPod update server could not be contacted.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later
    That's the error.

  • Not connecting to Ipod update server

When I try to update my Ipod classic I get a message that I can connect to the Ipod update server as I am connected to the internet. I am connected to the internet. Why can't I connect to the Ipod update server?

This is happening with my Nano 1st G as well. Followed the trouble shooting tree from apple with no luck. I am hoping it would fix my controls not working after the nano wakes up. I tried all of the 5 R's.

  • Anyone know the address of Apple's update server?

We're trying to set up our clients to first point to our own xserve then, should it for some reason be unavailable, to check apple's. We're not quite sure how to do this but it should look something this right?:
    http://<our server address>:http://<apple's server address>
    Is this correct?

Perhaps a little more clarification would help
We are using Work Group Manager to create computer groups for our client computers. On one of the computer groups we select the group, then go to System Preferences -> Software Update.
We set it to be Always managed and provide the URL for our xserve that will be hosting the service. we would also like to specify for this group of computers that if our server crashes and they are unable to access the server for updates, that they should point to Apple's update server instead. Would just like some advice on how to do this.

  • Local Apple Software Update Server for Windows

Has anyone figured out, how to use Leopard's Software Update Server, as a local Apple Software Update Server for Windows?
As you may know, 10.5 Software Update Server downloads, not only mac updates, but the windows' version of them as well (e.g. Safari, iTunes for windows).
There has to be a way to use that new feature.

    {quote:title=Apple wrote:}
Software Update Server is capable of automatically mirroring updates between
Apple’s software update server and your local server to guarantee that the most
current updates are immediately available. Mac OS X Server also supports hosting
Apple updates for software running in Boot Camp, such as iTunes and QuickTime for
Windows. To ensure security, all updates are digitally signed by Apple.

No idea, how to get it running smoothly yet, however.

  • HELP! iPhone 3GS stuck in recovery loop and iTunes gives error message" iPod update server can not be contacted"

As I said, it's an iPhone 3GS (never jailbroken), iOS 4.1, PowerPC G4 OS X 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2. I have had the phone since new, never had any issues with it and am at my wits end trying to figure it out. I have seen many different solutions to this exact problem, but none have worked for me. Anyone have any ideas?

This is what I posted to someone else having an update issue... Just for your information:
I having the same issue about the and iTunes says "The iPhone cannot be  restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could  not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.". I've had the  iPhone  3GS since it came out. It was working fine until I just tried to  update  it. It has NEVER been hacked or jailbroken. WE AND A FEW OTHERS are  having  the same issue then it is more than likely that this is an  update issue.  I took mine to the Apple store and the tech tried to  update it and he came to the same problem and told me he couldn't  update it. My assumption is that we are not the only one's with this  issue and that if  there was a way to update it to the update before  this last one it  might be a solution. I don't know how to get the  previous update. Apple  probably is aware of the problem, and hasn't  come up with a solution yet. Or, enough people haven't complained yet.  The tech suggested that  there might be something wrong with the phone  itself, but that couldn't  be since it was working perfectly before I  updated it and others are  having the same issue. It is highly unlikely  that a lot of people are having the same hardware issue all of a  sudden at the same time. Apple/iTunes needs to fix this... and hopefully soon
Also:  I can update or restore my iPhone 5 and other iPhones so it is not an  issue with my firewall or other software on my computer. No one touches  my iPhone or my computer they are secure, locked all the time, and I  have no jailbreak software on my computer (Apple tried it and they are  clueless at the moment from what I can tell).

  • I get an update server error message when i try to update my phone. I've uninstalled iTunes and all related software in the proper order and then reinstalled with security software disabled. no what?

I could use some help. Apple support walked me through the uninstall and reinstall of all iTunes and Apple files in the proper order with my security software disabled. I still get the following message:
"The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."
Any ideas? I'm on a Dell i5 Core with Windows 7.

Thanks.  I have followed all the instructions as recommended and nothing has worked so it looks like the restore/update may have been interrupted - would loss of internet connection do this?
Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data.  Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!
Good luck, but if you expect miracle from that call good luck again.

  • I accidently unplugged my iPod touch during update I tried to restore but the 'iPod update server could not be contacted' PLEASE HELP!

    Hi, please help me
When my iPod was 'preparing for update' my iPod USB accidently fell out. I turned it on and a usb sign and an arrow to iTunes came up, so I plugged it in. It comes up with a message saying iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode, You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. After that, I clicked restore and it said 'The iPod software server update could not be contacted' and that's it!
    I've tired,
Resetting my iPod (the usb to iTunes sign still comes up)
Holding down the Home and Power button at the same time for many seconds
    Restting my computer
Going into LAN settings and changing that
Please, I really want it too work as I just got it today for my birthday
Any help would be much appriciated, thank you

Yu can try here. However, other users been having the same problem so it may be due to a problem with the Apple servers.

  • Error 3004 & Update Server Error

Well after a 7 month wait I woke up this morning to hear 4.2.1 is out and I download and install it and here is what I get:
"The iPad "Ryan's iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3004)."
Well I clicked more info and It took me to Apple's website and blah blah. I restarted the computer and I got this:
"The iPad "iPad" cannot be restored at this time because the iPad software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable."
And now I have an iBrick XL!
    Awesome...

Thanks. Recboot got my ipad out of perma restore mode. My ipad is new, so I called Apple to find out what was up with the constant server error message and guy on phone had no real idea, just that logs of people were upgrading right now. RecBoot was a very easy solution.

  • "Can't connect to iPad Software Update Server" Error. How Can I Fix This?

I keep getting an error saying, "The iPad cannot be updated at this time because the iPad software update server could not be contacted or in temporarily unavailable.", whenever I try to update to 3.2.2 or restore my iPad. This has been happening for a couple of months now. Can someone please help me!? Apple only addresses this issue for Windows. And have searched all of google and can't find anything.

Ahha! I have just overcome this problem myself.
Being a highly tech savvy I immediatly assumed that this was a most complex and difficult problem to overcome. So naturally I started looking at things like port 80 and internet proxy options.
But alas, it was my anti-virus which caused this error! A most dispicable fiend.
    Solution:
I have Avast anti-virus so I will tell you how I disabled mine.
Open up the program and its friendly user interface, go to Settings at the top. In the newly opened Settings window go to the left and chose Troubleshoot from the nice little list at the bottom and then in the check box area that has appeared uncheck the Avast defence module. Now hit OK / APPLY.
Now you may close Avast completely. (Since exitting out only hides it in the background)
Hit control+alt+delete and open the Task panel.
Scroll across from programs -> processes,
Now find the AvastUI.exe or something along those lines and end that process.
Avast! It is now closed! and you may Restore/Update at will!
