Apple iPod Wall Charger

I've got that white iPod wall charger, and when I plug it into the mains, it makes a high pitch noise. why is it? something in it is spinning really quick, because when I turn it off, it starts to slow down. (i think that's what it is)..
what's wrong?
the ipod needs a new hard drive.... is this a reason for the wall charger screwing up?
it uses the FireWire connection (the charger does)

  • Apple USB wall charger

I have a Apple USB wall charger that says: Input 100-240v. Does that mean I can put this charger in in wall plug that is 230v and charge my iPod without having to worry about converting the voltage.

Yes, but you will need an adapter for the plug as the plug for 230V is different than the one for 117V.

  • Is the Classic compatible with Apple A1070 wall charger?

My three-year-old 20gig iPod became unreliable so the other day I went out and bought a 80 gig Classic. But right away I ran into an issue. I have a three-year-old Apple wall charger -- it is the Model A1070. The output is marked 13 volts and 0.62 amps. I have searched high and low and cannot find anything in the Apple documentation to tell me whether I can use this old charger with the iPod Classic. The wall charger being sold now on the Apple website LOOKS the same (it is model MB051LL/A). Also, the A1070 cable snaps into the 30-pin dock connector hole on the Classic just fine (I tried it without plugging in to the wall outlet) -- but I don't know if Apple still has the pins set up the same inside. Also, somewhere I think I saw specs for the Classic that said it wants 12 volts at 1 amp. Can anybody tell me for sure whether it is safe to use the old Model A1070 charger?

My concern is that the new iPod Classic is stamped next to the port "Rated 5-30 v -- 1 A max." But the three-year-old Apple Model A1070 wall charger is marked "output 13 volts == 0.62 amps." I wish I could find out for sure if it is safe to plug the Classic into this charger with its apparently higher volatate.
The new charger does have a different output. The one I got with my video cable is 5v 1A but since the iPod has a variable power rating of 5 - 30v your older 13v charger is within acceptable limits.

  • HELP! 40GB photo ipod "wall charger" icon..

I am not sure what generation my photo ipod is but I got it a year or two ago so I am assuming it is a 4th generation one. All of my songs were deleted and now has the "plug to wall charger" icon. The problem is, I don't have a wall charger anymore. Would I need to buy one or does anyone know of any other methods I can go through to fix it? I been charging my ipod through the usb/computer.
Please help. I am too broke to afford to buy a new one! I love my ipod dearly!

I purchased a refurbished 4th generation HP branded Apple iPod for my friend today. When I was setting it up for him I noticed it was formatted for Windows and he uses a Mac, like me. To change it to Mac-format, so he could install firmware updates, I restored the iPod in iTunes. I've done this a number of times with my Mac and my iPod Mini, however with a firewire cable. I didn't know that if you restore this generation iPod with a USB connection, you need to connect it to a wall charger afterwards to complete the firmware update.
HP did not ship this iPod with a firewire cable or a power adapter. It was asking to be connected to a wall adapter but we did not have one. We bought a car power adapter, but this didn't work. We tried inserting the USB cable half-way, but that did not work either. What finally worked was taking the iPod to a Radio Shack and plugging it into an iPod clock radio/boombox type device; the firmware installed, the iPod rebooted, and we have a Mac-formatted iPod working perfectly now.
No amount of resetting or attempts to put the iPod in disk mode prior to this would work. Hope this helps someone.

  • IPod Wall Charging

Not sure if anyone has tried this... but when you have multiple iPods in the family, it's bound to happen. I attempted to use a regular iPod USB wall charger to simply charge the Shuffle from the wall. To begin it appeared to not charge... after disconnecting and reconnecting a few times, success - the Shuffle appears to be charging. After sometime I disconnect the unit and see that the battery indicator shows green... I go to turn it on, and all seems fine until hitting the play button. I then get the alternating Orange-Green light show. Same with the battery indicator on the back (orange-green). Which led to my post below this one (had the battery drained enough to not have anything on it at this point)? Or is the iPod Shuffle incompatible with the regular USB wall charging units. Just curious... I can charge through computer, but tried this when I only wanted to charge. Little help would be appreciated... thanks.

Yes, is able to charge the other iPod... not sure what's happening here. Appears to charge when it does... but it may be having had let it sit for too long (which i didn't think was very long at all)... likely it drained and erased it's files along with it.

  • Reset ipod, wall charger

I just reset my son's ipod, and now it wants me to plug into a wall charger, which I did, but the symbol for wall charge hasn't come off of the screen! How long does it take, or is there something else wrong?

I had the same problem with the plug in symbol on display and it not recognizing my usb power supply. It also didn't work when I bought the electric wall/power supply for the usb connection. *Here's the fix!!!!* Go to Best Buy and look at the *Curtis Clock Radio* for IPOD (approx. $39.99)It will be in the boombox/clock radio section. Not the MP3/IPOD section! Put your ipod on the display model and it should connect, finish updating etc! They don't care if you "try it out"! If that one doesn't work for some reason, try the other ipod type radio/boomboxes! It worked for me!!!! Rick

  • Use IPod Wall Charger with Zen 16

I have been experiencing awful battery life with my 6GB Zen---After three years my Nano still deli'vers 6 hours. This Zen is rated at 25 but I'm lucky to 4 hours. I have been charging it with my Nano charger---is there something wrong with doing that? I hate to leave the computer on for the 4 hours necessary to charge it.
Help please! I'm on the verge of returning it. I bought a Zen Plus V on a whim---I actually like it a lot better and the battery never seems go down---I've only charged it once since I got it and have used for about 6 hours...
    Chris

It depends a lot on what you're doing with it. For playing video, the Zen's battery life is rated at only fi've hours. If you're listening to audio, it can make quite a difference if you turn off the screen while listening. You do this by switching the player into "hold" mode while playing, and wait a few seconds.
Then again, you might just have a bad battery ... or, the charger might not be matched properly to the battery.

  • Wall charger and travelling to Europe

I've got a 5G video ipod. I'm about to go to europe and need a wall charger to charge my ipod as i won't have a laptop with me to charge it via usb port.
With my old 2G ipod, the apple wall charger converted the 220V in Europe nicely . Should I purchase the apple branded wall charger to get the same benefit for the 5G? or do all the companies' chargers do the same (i.e. belkin, etc)

You would need to check the packaging or the manufacturer's website for any third party charger you get to be sure they will work internationally, a lot of them do. The Apple iPod charger works at voltages anywhere between 100 and 240 volts, so no other adaptor is needed. If you have a look on Amazon, you'll get lots of chargers including the Apple one: iPod chargers

  • Constant Noise with Wall Charger

My iPod 5th generation video makes a constant (static?) noise from AppleDesign Powered Speaker while being charged by Apple USB wall charger.
    charger: http://amzn.to/auTS6R
    speaker: http://bit.ly/18bvT or http://bit.ly/bcCToM
    speaker cable: RadioShack
The noise stops as soon as I plug off the wall charger 16-pin jack from the iPod.
    The noise does not occur:
    - when USB charger is not connected to iPod
    - when USB charger is not connected to the wall (i.o.w. when iPod is being charged)
    - when the speaker cable is connected to my iMac audio output jack.
    - when the headphone is connected to the iPod with or without the wall charger connected.
Is it a known issue? I doubt it's due to speaker cable.

  • Do you need a converter to charge Ipod nano (5th gen) using a non-Apple wall charger/plug adapter in Switzerland?

do you need a converter to charge Ipod Nano (5th gen) using a non-Apple wall charger/adapter plug in Switzerland? or is the Ipod Nano dual-voltage?

None of the iDevices are multi-voltage themselves...the chargers from Apple are all 110-240 volt.  You will have to look at the non-Apple charger you have and see if it says it handles 110-240 volts.  Most made today are capable of that range, or they would have to make a different item for each country.
All you probably need is a plug-pin converter, can find those in the airport, at least in Zurich, don't know about Geneva.

I have tried to reset and restart my iPod touch but it remains stuck at the apple logo and turns off. The iPod is not responsive when i connect it to my computer or wall charger.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I've run diagnostics. Can't find device. I've tried resetting. The toggle has been turned on and off.

Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(

  • I have an iPod shuffle 1 gb in gold I got from Avon a few years back. I hardly ever use it. I charge it when I am going to use it. But now my laptop took a turn fo the worst so I tried to charge it using my wall charger and it will not charge.

My iPod shuffle won't charge on a wall charger. It won't even light up after 8 hrs. On charge. What's wrong?
