• TS2972 How can I stop iTunes on my computer to start whenever I use the Apple TV remote to select a new program?

Whenever I use the Apple TV remote to choose a new program, iTunes starts on my computer and starts playing from the playlist. How do I prevent that from happening?

Your computer is picking up the remote's signal. Go into system preferences - security - general. Click on the padlock and go into advanced. Check disable remote control infrared receiver.

can i run my apple TV from an iPad2 with a PC as the iTunes server ... would like to do away with Apple TV remote ... thank you

As I was saying earlier that is not possible because the Apple TV has no accessible storage and streaming from your iMac is done via home sharing on your local network.
iTunes purchases can be accessed via the cloud on Apple TV. If you have iTunes Match you can access your full music libary from the cloud.
Using the iPad to watch your films would require syncing them and then connecting the iPad to a TV.

• HT204492 My Apple TV remote turns on my itunes whenever I use it for the TV. So the TV comes on as does the music on my computer.

My Apple TV remote operates the TV and turns on my itunes at the same time. How do I disconnect the remote from ITUNES?

Go into system preferences - security - advanced - disable remote control infrared receiver

• Apple TV Remote starts playing iTunes Library at random! HELP?

Hi,
I've been having this problem for a while now, and I've been avoiding it as much as possible. I have the fairly new Apple TV (last Christmas) and a OS X Mountain Lion Macbook Pro. When I have both my Apple TV and my Mac running at the same time, each time I press a button on the Remote, my iTunes library turns on, plays, pauses or turns the volume up or down. It's very annoying as you can imagine. I'd like to get this issue resolved ASAP.
Thanks for the Help,
Matt

If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System Preferences > Security > General, click on the Advanced button in the bottom right corner - If the button is greyed out, click on the lock icon and enter your administrators password))
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computerAND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

• Apple tv remote control is operating itunes on computer

Occasionally when clicking on the Apple TV remote control, the volume on my computer is being changed at the same time. My computer and Apple TV are in the same room , so how can I make it so the remote only controls the Apple TV?

Turning off home sharing will not help, indeed it will stop your Apple TV connecting to your iTunes library.

• Apple TV remote controls iTunes

Using the Apple TV remote to select something. When I hit play it not only plays the movie on Apple TV it also plays a random song in iTunes on my computer. This is also happening at a friends house. Any setting changes that can be done?

• Apple TV remote turns on Itunes

my apple tv remote controls itunes on my macbook pro ....I cant find the infrared sensor itunes_preferences

Help is here http://support.apple.com/kb/Ph14076
it says:
You can turn infrared (IR) reception on or off in Security & Privacy preferences. When you turn on IR reception for your computer, any IR device close to your Mac can control it. You can turn IR reception off to prevent unwanted control of your Mac or to prevent pairing with an IR remote control.
Open System Preferences
Select Security & Privacy
Click the lock icon to unlock it, then type an administrator name and password.
Click Advanced.
Select “Disable remote control infrared receiver” to turn off IR reception, or deselect it to turn on IR reception.

• Apple tv remote interacts with iTunes at the same time as Apple tv

Whenever I'm using the remote for my Apple TV I found that Itunes on my MacBook starts changing movies, turning up and down the volume and it gets in the way of what I'm actually trying to do, it's quite anoying.
Any idea why or how can I fix this?
Thanx

• ITunes Remote app on iPad: "Add to Up Next" as default?

Hi,
with iTunes 11 the iTunes DJ functionality has been removed from iTunes.
Some say that it has been further integrated as "Up Next" - which has been done so well, that you can't find it anymore.
If you now want to add a title to the playlist, you need to press a little arrow which opens a menu where you can select "Add to Up Next".
The problem is that this does not work properly on a party with unexperienced users.
They find a title, tap on it and then it directly starts playing and interrupts the current title.
Is there any way with a setting in iTunes or the iTunes Remote app to have the "Add to Up Next" functionality as default when you tap on a title?
Thanks

I too have this problem and made it worse. Under Mavericks and iOS7 everything set up very easily and worked beautifully like Apple stuff usually does. Then a couple of weeks ago I took the dive and updated to Yosemite, iTunes 12 and iOS8 and then I would occasionally lose connection with my iTunes library as described by the second poster. Very aggravating. So I made a bigger mistake and deleted the library from my iPad Remote app and whenever I started it up again it would say 'Add a device'. I clicked and a randomly generated 4 digit number appears with the exact instructions: 'To add an iTunes library, open iTunes on your computer and choose Remote from the tab bar'. I went to iTunes and searched EVERYWHERE for this Remote tab bar and could not find it. I then went to iTunes Preferences: Devices and clicked the button 'Forget All Remotes' thinking this may reset something in iTunes and make the Remote tab appear somehow to start from scratch. Wrong! Now there is absolutely no connection between the Remote app on my devices and iTunes on my computer.
Can anyone point me to this Remote tab in iTunes?? If I can find that then I think I should be able to fix this.
Geez, talk about effing up what should be (and was) a very simple app.

• The iTune Remote App has stopped finding my iTunes library when connected to wifi from my main router, but works fine when connected via second wifi router on the same network (different SSID)

I'm running iTunes Remote App from a couple of iPhone 5's and a first generation iPod Touch. iTunes is running on a PC - Windows 7. My home network runs two Wifi Routers, each with a different SSID. I've had no problems with the Remote app running this set up for the last 8 months but recently the App can only find my iTunes library when the iPhone/iPod is connected via one specific router, when connected to the network via the other router, no iTunes library is found. I'm also running an Apple TV and it's the same as the iTunes Library, only visible via the one SSID.
Everything else seems to work fine when connected via either router, eg Internet on the iPhones (definitely via wifi)
I've tried renewing the lease on the iPhone wifi connection, restarting everything.....several times.....
It used to work fine, this only seems to have been a problem in recent weeks
Any help or advice would be much appreciated
Thanks
Ian

It turned out to be the firewall settings on our router. Her machine was sending traffic that our router interpreted as a DoS attack and blacklisted her Airport's MAC address. That's why it would work fine if she switched to Ethernet.

• ITunes Remote app on Ad Hoc network (Windows 7)

Is it possible to use the iTunes Remote to control a computer that is using a wireless card to create an "Ad Hoc" network. I plan on building a computer for storing my Apple Lossless files on a Windows 7 machine and using it strictly for playback as a standalone device. I will be pairing it with a USB DAC & Headphone amp combination.
I either need to buy a monitor (not wanting to do this) or find a way to be able to navigate my iTunes library from this machine without a screen (prefered). I will NOT have an internet connection at work where I will be using this, however I could purchase a wireless card to install in this itx machine to create an ad hoc network provided I could then use the iTunes Remote app to control playback and view albumn art, etc.
Is this setup possible, or am I chasing a dream?

I have the same problem. How did you fix this?

• Apple TV Remote hidden controls

Are these controls legit? While in know some of these are simple and work on the device without much risk, I don't want to blow my device trying out unknown/new control.
Restart Your Apple TV
p>This is my favorite tip on this list because I frequently find myself navigating into the Apple TV’s layered Settings screens to restart the device whenever it gets Wi-Fi issues. Well, no more! Simply press and hold the DOWN and MENU button at the same time for six seconds to restart your Apple TV.

h3 dir="ltr">Sleep Your Apple TV

p>You can also quickly put your Apple TV to sleep using the remote. Usually it goes to sleep at after a predetermined amount of time passes. To make that happen sooner hold the PLAY/PAUSE for five seconds.

h3 dir="ltr">Get To Home Screen Instantly

p>Sometimes you can be knee deep in submenus on the Apple TV, especially when using some third-party channels. The good news is you don’t need to back out of each sub-menu step by step. Simply press and hold the MENU button on the Apple TV remote for three seconds and you’ll be taken to the Home screen right away.

h3 dir="ltr">Arrange / Hide Channels

p>For the longest time the layout of the Home screen was fixed, but then in a software update last year Apple finally added the ability for the user to rearrange and hide channels. This no doubt came in response to the increased availability of third-party channels on the Apple TV--some of which a user may never have an interest in viewing.

p>To rearrange channels simply hold down the SELECT button for two seconds. The channel icons will jiggle. Use the DIRECTION arrows to move the selected channel. Or press the PLAY/PAUSE button to hide an channel.

h3 dir="ltr">Rewind / Fast Forward At Different Intervals

p>Everyone knows you can use the left and right direction pad to skip backwards and forwards, but you can actually use the same left and right buttons on the direction pad to rewind and fast forward at different intervals. Hold the LEFT button to rewind 30 seconds. Press the LEFT button to rewind continuously. Alternate your rewind speeds further by pressing LEFT once each time to cycle through slow, medium, or fast rewind.

p>The opposite applies to fast forwarding as well. Hold the RIGHT button to fast forward 30 seconds. Press the RIGHT button to fast forward continuously. Alternate your fast forward speeds further by pressing RIGHT once each time to cycle through slow, medium, or fast fast forward.

h3 dir="ltr">Go Slow-Mo

p>This one is really cool. You can rewind or fast forward through video in slow motion on the Apple TV. To do this simply press the PAUSE button then press the LEFT or RIGHT button to rewind or fast forward in slow motion.

h3 dir="ltr">View Video Settings

p>Sometimes you might want to adjust audio or other settings for a video that is already playing. You can use the Apple TV remote to quickly do this by pressing and holding the SELECT button for three seconds while the video is play. This will bring up the video’s settings including subtitles, speaker settings, audio, and closed captions.

h3 dir="ltr">Mark Episodes As Watched

p>Many times we have full TV series we’ve bought via the iTunes Store that we watch on the Apple TV. However most of the time we’ve already seen some of the episodes in each season. This tip allows you to use the Apple TV remote to mark episodes as already watched. To do this you need to be in the iTunes TV Shows channel on the Apple TV. Select the episode you want to mark as watched and then press and hold the SELECT button. You can also mark entire seasons as watched by selecting the season and then pressing and holding the SELECT button as well.

h3 dir="ltr">Pair / Unpair Apple TV Remote

p>If you’ve got lots of Apple TV’s in your house you may have some remote conflicts. The good thing is you can quickly pair and unpair remotes simply by using...the remote. To pair a remote to an Apple TV press and hold the RIGHT and MENU buttons for five seconds. To unpair a remote from an Apple TV press and hold the LEFT and MENU buttons for five seconds.

h3 dir="ltr">Switch On-Screen Keyboards

p>Using the on-screen keyboard is one of the chores of navigating the Apple TV. You’ll use this keyboard whenever you need to enter login information (say, for Netflix) or when you are searching for a show. Thankfully the Apple TV remote has these hidden controls to make using the keyboards easier.

p>Press PLAY/PAUSE when entering text to switch between the alpha, numeric, and symbol keyboards. You can also hold down the SELECT button for two seconds to bring up the accented characters and then press PLAY/PAUSE to select the one you want.
