Apple keyboard not working w Iogear KVMP 1644 switch

I have a new Apple keyboard that I am attempting to integrate it into my music setup.  It's an Iogear GSC1644 4-Port Dual View Dual Link DVI KVMP Switch with Audio.  I have a newer (2012) Apple keyboard that I plugged into my setup and it does not work.  It is the same model A1243 as my 2008 Apple keyboard which still works except for 2 keys, the 'Z' and the 'option' keys.  I plug it in and nothing - it's like it is not seen. HOWEVER >>>>  when I plug it indirectly to the computer - no problem.    These Apple keyboards look identical, they are the same model.  I have changed USB cables at every connection - I cannot get it to work.  I powered down the Iogear GCS1644 per directions from their support desk: this included disconnecting every device and unplugging the power supply and leaving it unplugged for at least 10 minutes.  I left it unplugged for over an hour.  Then plugged the 4 computers back in, powered on the unit, and only powered on one computer - it still did not work.  The older Apple keyboard works perfectly - nothing changed.  I am at a loss.
What can this be?  Is there a major difference between the two Apple Keyboards even though they carry the same model number?  And - barring a quick and simple fix - are there any other older Apple Keyboards out there?  If not Apple, are there any other keyboards with a similar small footprint like the Apple that might work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Are you connecting the keyboard to the keyboard-specific USB port on the back of the unit, as opposed to the front port or the hub on the back?
I have a 4-port DVI IOgear KVM. I have never had a problem with the keyboard not being recognized, although booting through the KVM doesn't allow use of the various "boot" keys (option, S, T, etc.). I have to plug a keyboard directly into the computer for that. The other issue I have had is that the front USB port was always somewhat unreliable, and after a year or two just seemed to conk out.
I am using an older Kensington Slim type keyboard that was discontinued several years ago. I haven't tried the Apple keyboard that came with my 2010 Mac Pro, but will try to do so, just to see if there is an issue.
There may very well be some slight difference between the 2008 and the newer keyboards. With luck, someone here will know.
Is your Mac Pro a 2013 model?

  • Apple keyboard not working after installing new monitor

Yesterday I installed a new monitor - HP EliteDisplay E231i - to my Late 2013 Mac Pro.  Previously I had been using super old apple monitors.  My apple keyboard was working great - I had it plugged into the new monitor itself.  I shut down the computer last night. This morning, the Mac Pro won't recognize my keyboard no matter what I do. I tried plugging it into every possible USB port on the tower and on the monitor. Restarted it after moving it each time. I'm currently typing with a Microsoft keyboard, which is working fine.  I tried the keyboard in 2 other laptops (macbook pro) and it works fine.  Is this a bug specific to the monitor??  I've been running Yosemite 10.10.2 since the last update, and I've had no issues till I switched the monitor out and tried to start the computer after shutdown.

  • Keys on Apple keyboard not working

    Hi Apple Folks
I don't know why some keys of my iMac keyboard stop working after not using the iMac Mid 2007 for a while.
It is a Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, still looks like brand new. There is no any physical damage to the keyboard, the iMac and the keyboard just left there not in use for two years.
The bad keys are ESC, TAB, CAPS LOCK, DELETE , \, and RETURN of the character keys area, also the 0 on keypad. All the other keys work perfectly as they were.
Per an Apple KB article, i have confirmed these bad keys by using the Keyboard and Character Viewer of OS X.
Any hints to fix the keys please?
    Kind regards,
    B

OK, do some very basic resets of your system. The first two you may need to do 3x as they don't always work the first time. For instructions click Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets
If those do not work then restart in Safe Mode and then restart normally.

  • Apple keyboard not working properly

I have had owned this wireless keyboard for over a year now. It has been working fine up into like 3 days ago when all of a sudden certain keys where not working properly. I disconnected the keyboard and tried pairing but it is not allowing for the pairing to go through. I also tried it on my ipad same keys where not working properly. Nothing was spilt on it. It just stop working right any suggestions

    Gabor-
Try resetting the iPad's network.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will probably need to re-pair Bluetooth with your keyboard and reconnect your WiFi.
If that doesn't help, try resetting the iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting doesn't hurt anything, and sometimes corrects mysterious problems.

  • Numeric Pad on Apple Keyboard not working with 12" PB

Hi, I'm having a problem with my Apple Keyboard and 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 12". When I attempt to use the numeric keypad on the external keyboard, no numbers are printed displayed. Originally I though the keyboard was broken and had Apple replace it. However, the problem still persists. Any help would be amazingly appreciated.

Ya, I have the same issue. The Clear key is reported to be the numlock but it doesn't help.
The Keyboard Layout shows the keys are being depressed.

  • Apple Keyboard not working

HI, I have an iMac from late 2009, when I tried to type in my password it did not register letters. I tried all the usual things, replaced batteries, turned things off and on again but still no luck. I then connected it to my iPad Air 2 and it worked fine, so the keyboard is still functional however i have no clue what else I can do!
Any help would be much appreciate,
    Thanks

You may use a wired USB keyboard which could also help troubleshoot the computer.
If there is a hardware reason inside the computer for the failure of Bluetooth, then you
may seek to have it looked into at an Apple Store genius bar (with appointment) so as
to see what may be the cause of this symptomatic failure. And if the iMac is under
warranty, they can refer you to repair; the diagnostic is usually without cost at official
Store. And if no official Apple Store with genius bar is available, an authorized Apple
service provider location or specialist may be able to help resolve issues.
If the keyboard isn't syncing with the iMac, there may be other things to be done, but
a working USB keyboard is first in the line of troubleshooting items to have on hand.
If you have an Apple USB keyboard, that's best. You could use Windows PC keyboard
but some keys are different; these are linked sources to read and understand how to
use a windows keyboard where certain keys have other meaning...

    From microsoft:
•Keyboard Mappings using PC Keyboard on a Macintosh:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/970299
There is a reset, usually best done with USB wired keyboard, that may help, the SMC
or system management controller could help items work that aren't doing well. Or if
the problem relates, there is different reset NVRAM that does some other stuff.

  • Apple keyboard not working with iPad

I recently bought an Apple Bluetooth keyboard to use with my iPad and the first day it worked fine but then the next day it wouldn't work at all except to let me put in my pass code, search things on the iPad, and bring the keyboard up and down with the eject key. I know there weren't any restrictions on the apps because I used it without an issue on Notabilty and Chrome along with others before. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting and forgetting the keyboard and pairing again but nothing is working. To test it I paired it with my phone and it worked fine so I have to assume its something specific to the iPad. The keyboard is the latest edition and is the one that is compatible with the iPad. If anyone could help it would be really appreciated!

Have you tried resetting the iPad?
Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Apple keyboard not Working in win. 7

    Hello
I have a Mac mini fall 2012 and I installed windows 7 on it, I have installed the support software and it work for a while, but now two days since I installed it, my apple wireless keyboard and touchpad stopped working in windows 7 I have read all the other discussions and other stuff, but non of them seamed to work, it won't even recognize them, only in device manager they show apple ir, but still nothing happens it doesn't show any devices.

do you have a wired mouse and keyboard to use? Have you gone into the bluetooth setting in Windows and tried to set-up them up? You may have to put both into pairing mode to set them up again.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • USB Keyboard not working after running Monolingual

Okay, I'm not a Mac person and should have known that I was going to mess up my mother's iMac, but here it is -
In an attempt to improve the mac's performance I performed all of the actions described in the following article: 11 Ways to Optimize your Mac's Performance     ( http://lowendmac.com/eubanks/07/0312.html ). Basically, I cleaned up files and 'other' system preferences. Things seemed to be fine and the computer did run much better. However, after running Monolingual and deleting what I understood to be 'unnecessary' PowerPC files the standard USB keyboard is no longer working.
I've tried to search for various remedies, but have come to a dead end. So I'm left with reinstalling the Snow Leopard OS (I think it is 10.6.8?) BUT I can't because it is asking to input the account password (which I know) to make the change and I can't figure how to do that when the keyboard not working.
    Any help would be great!
    *feeling like a bone head*

How are you trying to reinstall Snow Leopard? If you're booting from the Snow Leopard or iMac Install DVD that came with the system then that should eliminate any of the issues you may or may not have caused when you deleted did the clean up work on your mom's system.
    I suggest trying the following:
    0) Verify that the caps lock key is off. It can make inputting passwords difficult if you don't realize it is ON.
    1) Reset the PRAM by restarting the system then quickly press the command-option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears. Wait until you hear the computer restarts two times as indicated by the startup chime. For more info refer to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379.
    2) If the issue persists after the PRAM reset then boot from the Snow Leopard or iMac Install DVD, whichever you have. Once you see the menu asking you to choose a language try using the arrow keys on the keyboard to move the language choice selection. If the arrow keys are working at this point it indicates your keyboard is at least partially functional. Go ahead and select the language then proceed to step 3.
    3) Once the next screen appears move the cursor up to the menu bar area and pull down the Utilities menu. Select the 'Terminal' application. Once the Terminal application launches try typing the various keys on the keyboard and check to see if the correct characters are displayed. Please let us know if you detect any errors. If there are no errors then you should be able to quit the Terminal application and proceed with reintstalling the OS.

  • KEYBOARD NOT WORKING LEOPARD UPDATE POSSIBLE CODING ERROR??

having read through all threads concerning this issue of internal MBP keyboards not working after installing leopard, and comparing to my own experience, it seems that everyone started having this problem soon after they must have downloaded the 1st software update to leopard.
my MBP's keyboard currently does not work. How am I typing you ask?
With the new apple USB aluminum keyboard. My boyfriend has it for his mac mini.
Because all these keyboard problems are new and happening to everyone now, we have to assume this is related to the leopard update. They JUST released the aluminum keyboard around the same time they released leopard, so they probably had bugs with the usb aluminum keyboard and had to make some kind of change in the code with how leopard relates with keyboard input. so, it's most likely a coding error and we are at the mercy of apple for a freaking software update ASAP. Don't erase and install - because that will just take you back before the update, and then after you update your software again, it will happen again and your keyboard will crash. I updated my software yesterday and almost immediately started having this issue. my MBP is a week old and i had no issues before this with the keyboard until the update.
The best thing we can do at this point is FLOOD APPLE WITH PHONE CALLS. We paid upwards of $3000 for a computer - holding down a key and messing with text edit is NOT acceptable.
These are NOT solutions. Every time your keyboard stops working, and holds you up from doing your work, CALL THEM.
That's what we think is happening...maybe something more severe is happening and we're wrong. but, hopefully, this is all it is and they will FIX IT as soon as possible because it's really annoying.

Is anyone else running vmware or parallels?
I had both installed at different times and realized that for whatever reason the kernel extensions for both were installed on my machine. I downloaded both from their respective website and ran the full uninstall.
As of this moment my (then-persistent) keyboard issues are gone. I am not positive this was the solution as I just might not have had the problem yet (as they tended to be very sporadic), but it might be a good test if anyone else is using either of those software suites.
If you open a terminal window and type kextstat, you will be shown a full report of kernel extensions that exist on your machine. Towards the bottom of the list parallels and/or vmware will be listed if they are installed.
Hope this helps. Though I am still wondering if Leopard is the problem.

  • Apple remote not working

My Apple remote is not working with my MacBook. The Mac OS X 10.5 Help Knowledge Base says to go to Security > Systems > and Disable remote control infrared receiver. I don't have a systems button or box nor the checkbox to Disable remote control infrared receiver. And, my MacBook has an infrared receiver.

    Hi Focus,
I have the same problem. When I update from TIger to Leopard the front row apple remote still working. But is been a long time the last time i used and now on 10.5.2 osx the apple remote not working as I imagine.
I read some answers that help me understand better the problem. My check box of "disable remote.."is unchecked and I saw a "pair" button and try to pair with my apple remote. The tips told me to HOLD "menu" and "next" buttons of apple remote to pair him with computer. And Works fine. So I try to push only Menu button (as I've done so many times on tiger) but still does not working. So I realize the command to "start front row from apple remote" now on Leopard 10.5.2 is MENU+NEXT buttons and does not anymore only menu button. For me works like this.
While I write this answer I try again push and hold only MENU button and after almost 2 or 3 seconds holding button appears on screen an virtual image of my apple remote signaling to replace the battery, may be now will be works only on push menu, but I need to change the battery first.
    I hope help somebody.

  • Why is my Apple ID not working in iTunes and App Store on my iPhone? Nothing happens if I click buy for apps or music. If I then go to settings/iTunes App Store my Apple ID is not there. If I then enter ID and password it does not save or link to account?

Why is my Apple ID not working in iTunes or App Store on my iPhone? When I try to buy apps or music it asks for Apple ID so I enter my info and nothing happens. When I go to settings/iTunes App Store my Apple ID is not there. When I enter my ID and password it does not save or link to account. I do not have this problem with iPad ID is stored and can be used in App Store and iTunes. I have just upgraded to 5c and it's still a problem.

When fist setting up your new iphone you will be asked to log in with an apple id and password. If this did not happen you can then do as you suggested going to settings to itunes and app store and add your apple id login. This apple id login must have already been created for the iphone to accept it. If this apple id is already created but is not being accepted by your iphone you then should shut down your iphone and restart the device.
    Good luck.

Apple remote not working, is there a way to setup Apple TV without the remote

Welcome to the Apple Community Sylvia.
There is no way to set up home sharing on the Apple TV without the original remote from Apple, you will need to purchase a new remote from the Apple Store.
