Apple keyboard volume keys no longer working on bootcamp windows

i have the wired full size apple keyboard and the only keys that dont work are the volume adjusters and brightness adjusters is there any way to fix? they were working fine yesterday

Well, after digging around in the settings, searching and searching for a solution, all of a sudden, it's working again and I have absolutely no idea why as I didn't change anything. So, if anyone still konws why this would disappear (weeks and weks ago) and now reappear, I'd still like to hear the solution in case it happens again.

  • Up volume key no longer working after 10.3.1

Since OS update on Passport to 10.3.1.1581 the up volume key no longer works in an app. I first noticed it while watchin a YouTube video in browser, then in Neutron music player then the Music app. The button works fine to advance songs (long press). At first I rebooted and it seemed to work, then it stopped.
Then I noticed that it works on the home screen just not in any apps.  It's a pain to have to exit the music app, go to the home screen to increase volume.
Down volume and pause/assistant works fine. Up button works fine in Camera to take shot.
Have rebooted many times since upgrading.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try reloading the 10.3.1 update again just in case something in the update went wrong.
Also, are you updating through BlackBerry link or over wifi or cellular? I always reccomend updating through BlackBerry link just to prevent a corrupt update in case the signal drops. BlackBerry link will greatly reduce the chance of a corrupt update as long as the USB cable is not disconnected.
Good luck and keep me posted.

  • Keyboard volume keys are not working

I had to buy a new keyboard for my imac, and the volume keys won't work. At first they were bringing up things like the dashboard, but I figured out how to disable that in the keyboard shortcut settings -- now when I press them nothing happens at all. I read somewhere else that if you bought a new keyboard for your old mac you have to update to lion to get the volume keys to work?! Is that right? My parents both have lion OS and I really don't like it, so I don't want to update.. is there any way around this so I can stick with snow leopard?

According to the spec sheets for the Apple keyboards currently available in the Apple Store, "Minimum System Requirements" state OS X 10.6.8 or later -
Wireless - Apple Wireless Keyboard - Apple Store (U.S.)
Wired -  Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad - English (USA) - Apple Store (U.S.)
So, if you update to OS X 10.6.8 you should be OK. You can do it in one step via the Combo update -

  • New wireless keyboard & volume keys don't work

I just replaced my wireless keyboard because a few of the keys stopped working. Now the volume keys don't work on the new one. When I push them one of them brings up my widgets and the others minimize the screen. Any Ideas?

Put truly fresh batteries in the keyboard.
Un-pair and re-pair the keyboard with the computer.
    Attempt the PRAM reset again.
If you do not get the 2 boot chimes then I would suggest you reset using a USB keyboard. Any USB keyboard will do. If you don't get the 2 chimes when using a USB keyboard then either you are not holding down the keys correctly / early enough or there is something wrong with the computer itself.
If you do get the 2 boot chimes you can then go back to the wireless keyboard and re-pair it.
Take a peak at this article. It is fairly exhaustive in troubleshooting suggestions for this type of issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3048
    Hope that helps.

  • Return Key no longer works in sql windows or procedure editors.

The <return> key no longer works in my SqlDeveloper editors. Is there an easy fix? I tried resetting the Option for the carriage return but it did not change anything.

So if you go to your shortcut keys (Tools > Preferences > Shortcut Keys) and search for "Enter", what commands are associated with the Enter shortcut? If you have tried remapping the Enter key to something else, it may have removed the standard association with the "Insert New Line" command.
You can reset to the default (which should fix the problem, but lose any custom shortcuts) with More Actions (top right) > Load Keyboard Scheme > Default.

  • My keyboard volume buttons no longer work (other function keys still work)??

I've never had any problems with my keyboard but after one instance of viewing a video (via my TV, where I selected audio device
as HDMI as for some reason it was still coming from my mac, which was not usual) my volume function keys on keyboard no longer
    work.
When I press them they show they volume icon onscreen but it is grey and non-functional?
I've tried going to system pref and keyboard setting to ensure the function keys are all set as they should be but I have not had any
success so far. I've also played video through TV again and put audio settings back to mac, instead of HDMI, but still nothing.
    Any ideas??

In the meantime, you could use Keyboard Viewer to type the characters which don't work.
You can open Keyboard Viewer via the Input Menu - that's the menu that usually displays a flag, on the right end of the main menubar. If the Input Menu is not shown in the main menubar, go to System Preferences > Language & Text > Input Sources and checkmark the "Show Input menu in menu bar" item. On the same page, at the top of the list of input sources (languages ≈ keyboard layouts) checkmark the item "Keyboard & Character Viewer".
With the Keyboard Viewer open, any letters you click on its representation of the keyboard will be entered in an open document.
Note - this can't, of course, be used as a substitute for characters needed for startup commands.

  • New apple keyboard Fn keys don't work

    Hi,
Posting this in PowerMac G5 and OSX Tiger as I am not sure if it is a hardware or software issue.
I just recently bought a new aluminium apple keyboard and am very very happy. EXCEPT:
When I first plugged it in, all the hotkeys/fn keys (the default ones such as play/pause/skip track/volume/brightness) all worked fine... but I had 3rd party SizzlingKeys installed... that sprang into life, and suddenly all the Apple default key functions stopped working.
I uninstalled Sizzling keys, trashed all relevent files, restarted... nothing.
Tried to reset them via SystemPreferences... didn't work.
How can I make these come back to life?
    Thanks

I've used SizzlingKeys in the past. It was novel for a few months but conflicted with keyboard commands I was used to in other applications. The iTunes library on that computer is no longer used. However, I see that SizzlingKeys 1.7.2 is still installed. Preferences depict only two SizzlingKey options enabled: Play/Pause and Almost Mute. The rest have their checkboxes clicked off. Here, at least, there is no conflict with the Apple keyboard functions on that G4 computer running Panther.
It seems awfully odd that a removed application could still be causing a conflict. If SizzlingKeys is the culprit and nothing else worked, I (perhaps not you) would be inclined to reinstall it. Whatever iTunes actions are mapped to F1 through F4 and F7 though F12 can be disabled or changed within the SizzlingKeys Preference Pane. There is even an option to disable SizzlingKeys altogether. Should you then decide to remove it again, do so after disabling everything in the Preference Pane. Between this and the Keyboard Shortcuts button labeled "Restore Defaults" (Keyboard & Mouse Preference) the problem should be resolved.
(FYI: If you were using a notebook computer, there would be another option to toggle that requires the extra Fn key to the right of the Control key to be pressed for access to special Apple functions. But since you posted this in the G5 forum, this apparently doesn't apply.)

  • Keyboard volume keys don't work after waking from sleep

This problem has existed for many months on my 2009 Mac Pro. I'm running 10.6.3. The problem is reproducible 100% of the time. I use external speakers. Sound output is set to "Line Out."
    1. Boot machine. External speakers work fine. Volume keys on keyboard (F11, F12) work correctly.
    2. Put machine to sleep.
    3. After waking from sleep, F11 and F12 no longer control the volume of the external speakers. The "pop" noise when hitting F11 and F12 is emitted from the internal speaker. The mute key (F10) does work for the external speakers, however.
    4. The keyboard volume controls become responsive again by switching the sound output from Line Out to another output option and then back to Line Out.
This bug is a huge hassle. Does anyone have a solution?

I have several mid-2009 8-core Mac Pro's, all running Snow Leopard, and all have been having this problem as well.
I will not guarantee this is going to work for anyone else....but we have found a (slightly inelegant) workaround for it that has been working for several weeks now without fail.
Prior to putting your MacPro to sleep, run the volume all the way up and leave it there. Afterwards, put it to sleep as usual. We use the keyboard to do this, but I would imagine any method should have the same affect. However, I've not experimented.
Anyway...this has worked 100% of the time for us. The only downside of it is that you have to remember to run it up before....and then back down after waking (else that first alert sound or music file you play will really wake YOU up!)
If this works for anyone else, let me know.
Apple should never have let this one out the door with this bug. Especially, as Apple Support is....wanting, at best.

  • Keyboard volume keys no longer adjust

Using Mac keyboard that came with the Mini; until today the two sound keys above the numeric keys adjusted volume up/down. Today no effect. Icon in menu bar adjusts sound okay. I've check the various preferences including universal keys, display, sound and find nothing improper. Hummm
just had an idea. I''ll startup from an external drive that is a week earlier (before some updates) and see if that makes a difference before proceeding here.

Well, the situation solved itself. Opening to an external FW drive the volume keys worked perfectly. Restarted back to the internal HD and NOW they also work perfectly.
    Significance?? temporary 'glitch'?? Who knows?

  • Problem with keyboard - several keys no longer working

In the last few days my Macbook running OX X 10.5.6 stopped allowing me to switch applications via Cmd-tab (now jumps to the toolbar highlighting the first button) and switching between windows within the same application - Cmd-` does nothing now.
Also, none of the F key responds to the associated tasks.
    I've checked the following
    * Rebooted machine - reseated the keyboard USB into different USB port
    * Screen Shared from my Macbook and tried same key combo (making sure keyboard not at fault) - same response
    * Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard - "Use All F1, F2 etc keys as standard function keys" is un-ticked
    * Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts - Clicked on "Restore Defaults"
    * Universal Access -> Keyboard - Sticky Keys OFF, "Enable access for assistive devices" is un-ticked
Still the problem remains. Any help will be gratefully received.

Thanks a lot for helping. I did a software update and plugged the keyboard in a different USB port. After restarting, everything was working again! Not sure which of the actions fixed the problem, but I'm relieved.
    Thanks again.

  • Volume keys don't work

The wired keyboard volume keys eventually stop working on with a new Mac Pro (quad core) running 10.6.4 and with external speakers (JBL Duet) selected in Sound preferences. Menu bar volume control continues to work. Problem is temporarily fixed by switching to internal speakers, then back. It appears to be a bug. Posting this so that other users might benefit.

Thanks! I have the exact same problem... and the fix was immediate.
So no doubt it's something for Apple to look into... hopefully.

  • Apple Keyboard volume & eject keys don't work

Not sure when it started (within the past week), but my eMac's eject and volume keys aren't working. I tried the following from other threads:
    Delete BezelServices plists---all of them
    Restart
    Log in as different user
    Unplug and replug keyboard
Shut down, unplug eMac for a few minutes, boot
    Repair Permissions
I don't have USB Overdrive installed, and I checked just in case.
I have a 3rd party SuperDrive installed, but it's been there for several months.
Only thing I might have installed lately is iLife '06 over my old iLife 05.

    hi there--
have you tested it removing all peripheral devices?? some things to try-- boot to open firmware holding apple-option-o-f and then type in the following commands--
    reset-nvram (hit return)
    set-defaults (hit return)
    reset-all (hit return)
the last command restarts the computer. if those things don't help, then i would boot to the install disk and run disk repair. make sure it is the tiger install disk. hold c until you a spinning cog under the apple, then once you see the window requesting a language, go forward one window. then go up to the utilities menu at the top of the screen and select "disk utility" then select the macintosh hd, or something else if you have renamed your harddrive. then click repair disk. do this a few times if necessary. after several times it should say "no repairs necessary". let me know if that works out for you. • I and K keys no longer working on Macbook keyboard

The I and K keys no longer work, it seems. I've restarted, attempted to clean out the keyboard, restarted again, etc. No dice. Sometimes when I push I or K I'll get an odd string of characters--'YIOU' or a bunch of symbols--but mostly I just get no response. I wasn't doing anything unusual when this started and I didn't spill anything on it.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I have heard around the message boards about this kind of problem, and no one seems to know what the problem is. Your best bet is to take it into Apple and they can fix it for you. If you are in warranty, they shouldn't charge you, especially since you didn't spill anything into the keyboard (also a common problem). if you are out of warranty, you're looking at around $90 or so (still better than not being able to finish that email or that final report!). i had my keyboard replaced for a different reason, but the receipt said I would have been charged said amount had I not been under warranty.
    hope that helps!

I got a new keyboard and my function keys no longer work with it.  I am used to have them used in the standard format, i.e. F10-F12 control the voume, etc.  I have the "Use all f1,f2, etc." button clicked.  I have also tried restarting my computer.  Any thoughts?

Try doing a SMC reset and PRAM reset.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
