Apple Laser Writer Pro 600

I have a new MacBook and want to connect it to an Apple Laserwriter Pro 600.
Can I buy a lead/adaptor (Ethernet to a USB) to link to my new MacBook?
I have previously used just an ethernet cable with my 2001 iBook using a Farallon Ethernet iPrint adaptor which connects macs/G3s to Local Talk printers and Macs.
I think an Adaptor from Maplin may work, namely USB 2.0 Ethernet Apdaptor. Mac to a 10/100 ethernet network. Supports half or full duplex modes. Supports wake on LAN and plug/play operations.
Any advice on this greatly appreciated - Fiona

Hi Fiona,
I agree it would be a waste to dump a working printer. I do have one further suggestion that might help you get this working. Delete and then re-add the print queue for this printer. Here is how:
1) Open System Preferences and go to Print & Fax, going to the b>Printing tab.
2) In the lower left corner, make sure the lock is unlocked. If it is not, click on it and authenticate.
3) Select the LaserWriter printer from the list of printers on the left side. Click the '-' button to delete the print queue. This deletes the print queue.
4) Click on the '+' button next. You can then add the LaserWriter as a printer again.
5) Quit System Preferences and try to print again using the LaserWriter.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

You can install the XP Apple drivers onto Vista if you have the XP

Use the have disk option in the Add Printer Wizard.

  • Getting the Apple LaserWriter Pro 600/630 to work on 64 Bit Machines

Hi everyone, I just wanted to post a success story of mine as I was attempting to get an Apple LaserWriter Pro 600/630 printer to work on my 64 Bit Vista machine.
I read on a few posts, namely from this topic, that you could trick windows into thinking that your apple printer was actually an HP Laserwriter III printer (or in my case, a LaserJet rather than LaserWriter), although almost every topic on that subject referenced a website containing the drivers, which has been down for nearly four years. This is the most recent copy I could find of that website discussing the issue I, and several other users, was experiencing.
In short, whatever computer is physically connected to your apple printer (note that this can work for networked setups), you need to select a Laserwriter III PostScript Cartridge v52.2 driver. In my case, I didn't have that driver, although I got away with installing the printer as an HP LaserJet IIIP PostScript Cartridge v52.2.
The test page just finished printing off, and everything seems to be working fine!
I really hope this benefits someone.

Make sure you compile as a 32 bit app.

  • Pro 600 cartridge and others

Can anyone out there tell me if the laserwriter pro 600 has the same ink cartridge as the laserwriter 4/600 please?
Also, what cartridges are compatible with the laserwriter 4/600?
I heard that the HP LaserJet 4 is as well as the Canon Laser LBP4 U LBP430. Is this true?
    Thanks in advance!

Take a look at these cartridge and "marking engine" cross reference pages:
    LaserWriter 4/600 PS:
    http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/reference/pcr/engine/777
    LaserWriter Pro 600:
    http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/reference/pcr/engine/89
Apple no longer sells Laser Printer cartridges. Any one who claims to have genuine Apple cartridges in stock may have stuff that has been sitting around three years or more.
I have been using HP cartridges in my laserWriter IIg for several years now without the slightest difficulty.

  • Laser jet pro CM1415 will not send or receive faxes

I just bought a MAC OSX 10.9.5 and downloaded upgrades for my laser jet pro CM1415fnw printer plus the firmware upgrade from HP website. The printer will scan and print but will not fax. we are set up for wireless and I have spent the last 2 days trying to figure this out. The message says that no phone line detected. ??? This printer worked perfectly with my old MAC computer but is bing very obnoxious now.
Thank you for any help you can give me. collette

    Hi @dumtech ,
I see that you are unable to fax with the new Mac using 10.9. I can help you with this.
Did you mean you downloaded and installed the Full Feature Software drivers?
HP LaserJet Pro CM1415 Color Multifunction Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Are you trying to send a fax from the Mac or from the printer's control panel?
If you can't fax from the Mac, try the following:
Check to see if the fax driver is installed.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
    If not, the + sign.
Select the printer from the list.
Beside USE: make sure it lists the printer's name only/fax.
    Click on the add button.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name also.
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
    Try faxing again.
If you can't Fax from the Printer, please try these steps:
Make sure you are using the 2 wire fax cable.
Run this test for the fax.
From the Home screen, touch the wrench button.
    Touch the service button.
    Touch the Fax service button.
    Touch run fax test.
    You should get 4 passes.
    Turn the private receive off:
    Go setup/fax setup menu/advanced setup/private receive/turn it off.
    Turn off the error correction:
    Go setup/service /fax service/error correction/turn it off.
Change the fax speed to medium:
Go to setup/fax setup /advanced setup/fax speed/change it to medium.
    Clear the saved faxes:
    Go to setup/service menu/fax service/clear saved faxes/OK to clear.
If you are still having issues, then please follow the steps in this document.
    Cannot Send or Receive Faxes.
Can you fax from the printer?
Was the fax and printer driver both installed?
Were you able to fax from the Mac?
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.
    Have a wonderful day!
    Thank You.

  • LaserWriter Pro 600

My LaserWriter Pro 600 will not talk through my Ethernet connection to my iMac G4, Please Help!
I have an iMac with an 800 MHz Power PC G4 Processor
using Mac OS 10.4.5I also have a LaserWriter Pro 600 v2010.130 which I brought from the office where I had a G3 Mac using System 9.2, and I was using a LaserWriter 8 Driver (from the Chooser).
I would like to use the LaserWrier on the iMac, and I have done the following:
Connected the Appletalk cable (9 pin) from the LaserWriter to an Asante Talk connector box; then the Ethernet cable from Asante to my iMac Ethernet port.
From the Finder: Go>Utilities>Printer Setup Utility, where I filled in the following: NOTE: Icon at the top said ‘IP Printer’
Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD (Selected Option)
    Name: LaserWriter Pro 600 v2010.130
    Location: Macintosh HD
Queue Name: LaserWriter Pro 600 v2010.130 (Automatic fill)
    Host Name: ????
    Print Using: Apple
Driver Version: 10.4 (these last 2 are from the printer’s Get Info)
PPD File Version: 4.1 (I did not fill in these values)
Now I have read the LaserWriter 4/600 problem posed by Andre Blaize on
3/20/06 and the various answers through Grant Bennet. I have tried
everything suggested, but I still can’t get anything to print. He had a
different LaserWriter and was using Mac OS 10.4.3, and he got it all to work,
so I was hoping the same could happen to my situation.
    Help!

    [email protected]

Grant, thanks for the references, but they don't work...
"1. Open Print Center (/Applications/Utilities/). The Printer List window appears. If you want to delete a job, choose Show Queue from the Printers menu..."
I can't open Print Center. It's an application and double-clicking it yields nothing. However, I can delete a printer by using Printer Setup Utility. When I open it there's a list of my printers. I select one and click on DELETE...gone. Then I click on ADD and set up a new printer as I did before.
However, I have now concluded that the LaserWriter Pro 600 v2010.130 does not work with an iMac G4 running OS 10.4.5 utilizing the Asante Talk box.
So I am going to take the LaserWriter back to the office and use it with my Macintosh G3 (SCSI).
    Thanks again, Warren

  • I purchased a Laser writer 12/640 PS?

I purchased a Laser Writer 12/640 PS printer and was told That windows would have the driver. I have Windows 7. I turned on the printer and plugged it into the USB port and it showed up as a printer under the listing of (Unidentified) list. I can't seem to move it to the printer list or print any thing on it. Can anyone recommend a fix or what I need to do? I hate to think I wasted my money on it. It seems like a decent work horse for my home office.

  • Is it possible to download fonts to Laserwriter Pro 600 from OS X?

I have a LaserWriter Pro 600 that is still working remarkably well, using an Appletalk converter on my Network. In the past (OS 9 days), I used to be able to download PS fonts directly into the 8Mb of onboard memory in order to speed up printing when using fonts that are not built into the memory.
Is this even possible with OS X, and how do you do it?

Thanks, maybe I should have been more specific - I have a new MacBook Pro running Leopard, so Classic is out of the picture. I assume there's no way to do this without Classic?

I was wondering if anybody can tell me why the Apple IPhone 5  is $600 US/AUD more expensive in Australia than in the US!
    thanks

Thanks for the reply - I still know that this issue is also relevant for so many other apple products which don't involve cellular providers.... I think Australians are tired of paying so much more for things than in the US and other countries.  It used to be explained by the poor Australian dollar but that doesnt exactly work when we are over parity with the US dollar and have been for a while now....

No. Apple replaced the disk drive with a solid state drive (SSD) instead. The SSD is faster the old disk drive.
