Apple LCD 17 inch display black

This display, with the ACD connector was working fine until I did my Leopard updates. Now the screen is black and the buttons don't work, but the display preferences sees the display there. Any ideas? How can I disable the buttons and use just the preferences.

  • Will the Apple 30 Inch display work with my MacBook pro? Confused!!

    Hi all,
thinking of getting a used Apple 30 inch display to go with my MBP, but not sure if it will work at the correct resolution. Ive read you need a Duel Link DVI cable, but I have Thunderbolt not mini-display port. My MBP is early 2011 (think), so I am really confused. The 27 Incher with thunderbolt would be good too, but they are too expensive for me.
Graphics card is AMD Radeon HD 6490M, 16mb RAM. 10.6.8.
I would really appriciate any advice !
    Thank you all in advance,
    Bish.

I am replying to my own post here, but i have made excellent progress and wanted to let any other viewers in the same boat, know the solution.
Basically, the Duel Link DVI cable from Apple (£70 / $99) is the bad boy that works. My confusion was Thunderbolt, but apparently Thunderbolt IS ALSO a DVI port ! So, buy the 30 incher on Ebay or off a mate, and BANZAI ! done. Glorious res of about 2560x1600pixels is awesome!
The only downside here is that it might be too big LOL !!!!
    Good luck all

  • Xbox 360 elite + apple 23 inch display???

so i found the converter from hdmi to dvi but its really expensive around 400+ and would like to find an alternative so if i was to use the dvi to vga for the 23"display then use the vga adapter on the xbox 360 would that possibly do the job needed? or in another scaler needed to run that?

it will not work unless you shell out 300-400$ usd for a converter box

  • Dell 24 inch back to a 17 inch display problem

I installed a 24" Dell LCD display. I changed back to the Apple 17 inch display and i cannot get the resolution back to 1920 x 1200. I only get half the length of a safari page and it extends past the edges. How do I reset it for the Apple display?

Seems to be the right adapter and cable for you as well.

  • My 30 inch display is crapping out, help!

I have a 2-week old apple 30 inch display. It just woke up from energy save mode and a vertical portion of the screen (about 1/4 of the monitor) displays all black colors as reds. I restarted, experimented with display prefs, and eventually zapped the PRAM, all to no avail. Has anyone heard of this or have any advice? Also, in the moment after restarting when the monitor comes to life and displays all black before the gray apple logo screen comes up, that 1/4 portion of the screen is entirely red, if that helps...

    Could be the video card.
Anyway it's only two weeks old, you can call Apple Support to start your repair cycle. Say it's a warranty call if necessary.
I would advise picking up AppleCare if you don't have it already.

  • Apple 16" Color Display with 15" Aluminium Powerbook?

I have pulled my old Mac 16" Color Display out of the shed, only to discover that my 15" powerbook Al running 10.4.6, once connected via DVI-VGA and VGA-Apple VGA, won't show the necessary 832 x 624 resolution option, so I can't use it.
When I connect my older Pismo powerbook running under 10.3 via VGA-Apple VGA, it does show the necessary resolution!
Is this a a symptom of 10.4, the DVI adaptor or the video card? Can I copy some driver or something from 10.3 to 10.4 to add support for 832 x 624?
    Brendan

I think you are trying to use equipment that is just too far behind your modern PowerBook. The Apple 16 inch display was sold 1991 to 1994.
The computer-end of its cable provides a code at startup that a Mac with a similar connector would use to determine what display is attached, and what resolutions are appropriate. Perhaps the adapters you are using cannot manage to pass that information through in a coherent way.
More modern displays with a VGA (three-row) connector use a DDC side-channel to negotiate their capabilities with the computer system.
On the other hand, perhaps the PowerBook simply cannot do that resolution. If the 16 inch display were a multi-Sync display, there might be another resolution you could use.

  • Dual 30-inch displays

I have a MacPro with an ATI Radeon 4870 graphics card with a DVI port and a mini Display port. I have an Apple 30-inch display now and have acces to another 30-inch Apple display. Can I use the current card to run both displays at once? I got a mini display port to Dual-link DVI adapter and the mini port did not work for either display, but both displays work on the DVI port. Apple is sending me a new adapter, but my question is, can I display one 30-inch monitor thru the DVI AND one monitor thru the mini port together? Apple does not know. The ATI site is not helpful. If not, what card should I use. Many thanks.

Yes, mDP can drive a 30-inch. What you already tried should have worked and I'm not sure why it didn't. At least you have another adapter coming, but the problem may lie elsewhere besides a defective adapter.
Write back with further details if the second adapter also fails to work.

  • Does it support a 30-inch Display?

Does the video card in the newer mac minis support the Apple 30-inch display?
    Thanks.

The mini will give a useable display on the 30" from its single-link DVI port. But the resolution will be 1280 x 800, which is one-fourth of what the 30" is capable of. So as mystuffs already pointed out, it's not very compatible.

  • Viewing blacks on a 20 inch display in a dark room

I've just bought an Apple 20 inch Cinema Display for my Mac Mini and have noticed that there are "bleached" out areas in each corner of the screen.
This is only visible when the room is dark and the screen is displaying black. It isn't noticable at all in daylight or when veiwing any other colour than black.
I use my Mac Mini and Cinema Display quite a bit for watching TV and DVDs and find it distracting.
I'm guessing it has something to do with the backlight. Does anybody know if this is a characteristic of the Apple Displays or just a problem with the one I have?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You need to display a test pattern. You need to find a test patter that displays "Black" or 7 IRE as a field, and then displays below black or 0 IRE. Reference black is 7 IRE and is what you monitor should be calibrated to display. This test pattern is often called a "PLUGE" pattern. What you have to do, is to adjust the brightness of the monitor (not the contrast) just until the point where 0 IRE and 7 IRE look identical to you.
It is quite common for LCD displays to not be able to conform to this test and still perform within spec in other areas, like absolute contrast ratio for white values. LCD displays are simply not very good devices for displaying video. If your LCD cannot conform to a proper PLUGE and still operate correctly at the other end of the spectrum, then you should up the brightness a bit and live with the fact that it won't perform to spec, which means that very dark scenes will not be detailed enough, and that in low ambient light situations, the actual backlight artifacts might overpower the display on black / dark scenes... somewhat of a design flaw or trait of the display given its budget / quality of construction scale.

  • 27 inch thunderbolt display blacks out after Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2

Bought 2 new 27 inch TB displays for two different machines and after a couple of days the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 appears on my Mac Pro with one of the displays installed. So I install the firmware update.  Now my display blacks out periodically and I keep getting Graphic Display Errors with a request to sent the errors to Apple. Running a 32 GB Mac Pro (late 2013 circular style) I have three monitors connected (two 20 inch cinema displays and the new 27 inch display). This machine is supposed to be able to handle three 4k monitors or 6 standard TB displays.  I've seen the posts about the blacking out with this monitor but I didn't have any problems before the firmware update and now I've got them pretty regularly.  I had the blacking out problem on an earlier monitor and took one of the monitors back and Apple gave me another one and this is the replacement.  Same problem, but this one only started after the update. I'm hoping someone from Apple reads these messages and can let me know what's up.
BTW, I also have an older 27 inch Apple monitor that ran perfectly on this machine so I'm disappointed that I spent all this money and now get the blacking out issue.

I have my Thunderbolt display connected to my MacBook Pro and have been experiencing the same issue, getting worse over time.  The folks at my local Apple store did not know what to do about it.  So, I looked around and tried different thing.
The one thing that seems to be working is to System Preferences > Build-in Display > uncheck “Automatically adjust brightness.”
    I hope this helps.

  • Watch Tv with apple 20 inch LCD monitor

I have a 20 inch apple LCD monitor, I dont want to use it for my computer, instead I would want to use it to watch tv. How shd I do it or what shd I buy?

That is one very expensive 20" TV, frankly you should sell it on and buy a 20" LCD TV instead.
You could have a look at Elgato's TV Tuners for Macs you can then display and record HD TV on your Mac and are pretty good value.

  • Who makes LCDs for Apple Cinema HD displays?

Who makes LCD's for Apple 23-inch Cinema HD displays? I do not think that Apple has its own factory to produce LCD's. I think that Apple buys LCD's from other companies and puts them into Apple Cinema HD displays.
I wonder if either Sharp or NEC makes LCD's for Apple. Does anyone know who makes LCD's for Apple 23-inch Cinema HD displays?

Im using a G5 Duel 2.5. I have been trying to use a 42" LCD that supports 1388x768 resolution. My problem is that resolution is much to small for may audio application. Do you know of any work arounds to force an increase in resolution on the LCD side? Possibly a direct box or software that will shrink the windows and allow more information on the screen..[email protected]

I am having this same issue. Im not sure if this is the cause but I think this is keeping PowerDVD Ultra 11 from playing back Bluray under Windows 7 / Bootcamp
