Apple LCD M7649 Studio Display & Early 2008 MacPro?

Can I connect a 17" Apple LCD M7649 Studio Display with my Early 2008 MacPro?
I have one, and might pic up another, to use as my 3rd and 4th monitors (respectively) on my early 2008 Mac Pro.
I just wanted to know if these would work?
These are the ones that are self powered, and is currently working on my G4 Dual 450 PPC.
Thanks.

You need an adapter that includes the display power supply.

  • Can an early 2008 MacPro be reconfigured as an effective video server for 2 27" 2013 iMacs plus a New MACPRO (to be released) and how would be the best way to do it.

We are a small eiting studio with an early 2008 MacPro (maxed out on ram) with a 4 Port SATA card, 2 27" 2013 iMac's, and we will be purchasing a new MACPRO once they're released.  We work with Final Cut X primarily and would like to create a server solution to share media assets between the computers as well as insure our media assets are protected.  Ultimately we see us moving toward an LTO tape backup solution for projects and we currently use the Acera 8 slot 32tb Raid for media storage.  We use .DMG's to organize projects and we've had success networking the MacPro to one of the 27" iMac's and we can effectively mount projects off of the RAID on to both computers as long as the .DMG for that project isn't mounted on both computers.  However we can really only run background processing (like rendering or inputing video) we can't really edit as it appears even with a CAT6 capabled connecting the two still isn't enough to be able to edit.
Ideally when the new macpro comes out we would like to explore the ability of turning the 2008 MacPro into our server and buy an attached storage solution but I'm unsure if this will work, what we would need to do to make it work efficiently (read fast), and what my limitations might be.  Is it as easy as installing a new PCI 4port 1gigE card in the back and connecting our 2 27" Imacs and the to be purchased new MACPRO to that and insalling OS X Server?
Most of our projects are recurring and ongoing and require us to share our extensive library of live performances as well as insure its availibilty all the time without having to install the RAID set associated with those projects.  We have about 80tb's of video we'd like to keep accessible.
Any help is appreciated and I would be glad to fill in any blanks if I left any.
Lastly, I might add that I'm not a fan of onebox solutions from the vendors, I believe that Apple has the products I need to do what I'm talking about and most 3rd party one-box solutions end up out-moded with in years of purchase.
    Thanks,

Gigabit Ethernet can be limiting for large file transfers, which usually segues into either 10 GbE NICs and/or (less desirably) link aggregation and/or an Xsan configuration with Fibre Channel SAN storage, if you really needed the I/O speed and scale.
If you're serving large volumes of data and it's the the server-to-host Gigabit Ethernet link that is the limit (as differentiated from the RAID array or related I/O link as the bottleneck), then you're left to either or both 10 GbE NICs and FC HBAs, whether via Thunderbolt HBA adapter or via FC HBA in a PCIe slot.  (Thunderbolt is not an option on any current Mac Pro or Mac Pro Server I'm aware of.  That'd be PCIe.  Conversely, recent iMac systems have Thunderbolt and no PCIe.  And there's no Thunderbolt to 10 GbE NIC listed by Apple.)
Discussions of the new Mac Pro are premature, beyond the information Apple has posted.  (But I'd probably also wait a month or three after release of any new hardware and software, in any event.)

  • Can I connect my old Studio Display to my MacPro Tower as a second monitor?

I'd like to hook my old Apple Studio Display (Clear body) to my MacPro tower and use it for my Pallets in PShop. Can anyone tell me the cable(s) I need to convert the studio display to the MacPro monitor port?
    Any idea on pricing?

Nevermind. I figured it out. I need the $100.00 adapter.

  • Problems with Pages and Numbers using iCloud Drive on early 2008 MacPro, Yosemite

One of my computers, an early 2008 MacPro running Yosemite, will NOT save Pages or Numbers documents to iCloud Drive from within those applications.  I see the little iCloud Drive error badge next to the file name in Finder after I try to save.  However, on the SAME computer I can save Pages and Numbers documents to a local drive (e.g., to my Desktop) and then use the Finder to drag the documents to iCloud Drive successfully.  Another computer, a MacBook Pro running Yosemite, has no problems using iCloud Drive to create, edit and then save Pages and Numbers documents stored on iCloud Drive.  I have tried "turning off" iCloud Drive for Pages and Numbers in System Preferences on the Mac Pro and then turning it back on to no effect.  I have also logged out of iCloud Drive on all of my devices (which include two iOS devices) and then logging back in to ensure that I'm using the same login id on all devices, again with no apparent change.
Any suggestions for my next steps in attempting to solve this issue?  Is there any way to get more information about precisely what type of error is occurring?  Hovering over the badge only shows "Error".
    Thanks in advance.
    Jon

Found a solution, but it is odd:
On the 2008 Mac Pro, I UNCHECK the boxes beside Pages and Numbers in System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive > Options. Now Pages and Numbers will properly save edited documents to the appropriate folders on iCloud Drive.
    Go figure ...
Hope that this helps someone else.

  • Help! Early 2008 MacPro keeps crashing suddenly. EtreCheck help needed.

My MacPro 2008 keeps crashing, rebooting, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. This has happened before a couple of years ago, I think I reset PRAM then and it worked.  This time, it hasn't.  The things that have changed since my original configuration: I am now using Chrome as my primary browser, an old but huge Cinema Display and both a Magic Mouse and Wireless keyboard.  Otherwise, not much has changed so I'm not sure what's going on.
I know it's an old system but I'm just trying to squeeze just a little more life out of it.  It has been a solid machine for me for a long time and I need it for some upcoming jobs.
I ran an EtreCheckbut don't know how to interpret/take action from the results.  Please advise!  Thanks in advance.

Sorry it's taken awhile to respond.  In short, I cleaned all the malware, plists and reinstalled my Adobe CS (the cache was acting strange consistently suddenly) but it did not solve my problems permanently.  I was able to to finish my jobs by never putting the computer to sleep for a few days and getting the system stable enough.  But if I put it to sleep, or shut it down to restart it would just shut down randomly and just keep trying to restart, sometimes successfully, sometimes not.  A few times the fans came on violently, to which I would do a hard shut down by pressing the power button down. I did a CMS reset, and pram reset, pulled the power cord out for a battery reset...tried because other forums say it might be bad Ram or a logic board battery going bad.
It seems to be working for now, but I still dont' feel like it's solved.  Here is the first page of the last kernel panic log (I haven't touched my computer for a few days):

  • Wrong Screenresolution on Apple 15" analog Studio Display under 10.5

    Hi everybody,
I'm still using one of the good old blue TFT 15" Studio Displays with VGA and ADB connectors as my secondary display. The correct resolution should be 1024x768px at either 60hz or 75hz.
When the display is connected and I start the machine, the display shows a scaled narrow image and display settings show me that the screen is running at 1280x768px (funny .
When disconnected at start time and connected later on, the display runs fine.
I tried the usual stuff like resetting the pram and so on.
Before updating to 10.5 everything was fine. Any ideas what might be wrong ?
    Best regards,
    Matt

    Hello,
I'm just using the following as an example:
<MacBook Pro (2.4/2.2GHz): External display only supports 1440 x 900 after Mac OS X 10.5.2 and Leopard Graphics Update
    Symptoms
An external display connected to a MacBook Pro (2.4/2.2GHz) may only support 1440 x 900 resolution after installing Mac OS X 10.5.2 and the Leopard Graphics Update.
    Resolution
Apply the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.>
Perhaps there is a firmware update you need... check out this link... the very first Mac OS update to 10.5.4. http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/

  • Early 2008 MacPro/UPS shutting down too quickly?

apologies in advance, as I'd bet this has been covered before - just couldn't find it with Search?
the problem is - in broad, general terms - I have an early 2008 8-core hooked up to an APC UPS XS 900 battery backup. The Mac Pro's a couple of years old, as is the APC.
Lately, when power goes down, the UPS battery kicks in just fine, giving me a few moments to save work, as hoped for. But when the power comes back on - and the UPS switches back from battery to line - the MacPro dies. The problem is that, if it's a really quick "power-off/power-on" (say, about 1 sec. or less), having the MacPro shutting down that quickly leaves no opportunity to save anything!
I would pretty much expect the UPS to be at fault here, but recent reading has lead me to believe that the power supply of the MacPro may also be part of the equation.
So just wondering if anyone else has encountered this type of problem, and suggestions?

Well, first off you probably need 850W+ UPS.
With APC generally and with that model, and most all Mac workstations since 2003s G5, a 1500VA

  • 15" early 2008 MacPro. Is this considered second generation?

I have a 15" Pro that on system preferences indicates early 2008. I am looking to craft a custom skin with a manufacturer who lists a 2008 option of the 15" Pro as "second generation unibody?" How do I know?

"Early" and "Late" can be confusing.  Does your computer have a display latch on the front edge, and the optical drive in front?  If so, it's a first generation.  If there is no latch, it is a second generation.

  • Can I update the native sound support on my early 2008 MacPro to support HDMI audio out.

I recently connected a HDTV as a second monitor.  I don't have HDMI listed under the possible options for audio output in my settings panel.  The MacPro's system information also doesn't list support for HDMI devices under the Audio panel -- so I assume it is not natively supported.  Is there any way I can update this?  I know I can transfer the audio signal to the TV using a 1/8" in. audio cable but I don't have one handy and would much rather just have the signal run via the HDMI.  I've copied and pasted my system information 'audio' data.  I'm using OSX 10.9.

No, unfortunately Mac Pros older than 2010 will not send audio through their Mini DisplayPort connectors, even with a more modern video card like the 5770.

What do I need to connect my two Apple 17" (ADC)Studio Displays on my Dual 2.7 G OS 10.4 G5?

  • DVI to ADC adapter STudio display will not power on when used with Mac mini

I have a Mac mini and I just purchased a used apple 17" CRT studio display. I bought the DVI to ADC Adapter as recommended by my Apple store. When I hook everything up (I have checked and redone this two times) The power light will come on for about a second when presses. When the mini powers up there is a blank dark screen. I would appreciate any ideas on this. thanks!
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    Hi
unfortunately I think the Apple store have sold you the wrong item.
I'm almost certain the DVI to ADC adapter only works with ADC based flat panel displays. DVI ports can output digital or analogue signals (or a combination of the two). The adapter seems to provide digital, which is why it works with the LCD displays, but not analogue, which is why it doesn't work with the CRT displays.
Confusingly Apple did a 17" Studio display both as a CRT and LCD.
Dr. Bott do a similar adapter but they explicitly state it's not compatible with the 17" CRT.
Unfortunately I'm not sure there's a solution, as the display has an ADC connector yet I'm not aware of any adapters available that will work.

  • Unpredictable reboots on my early 2008 Macbook Pro with Mavericks

    Hello,
    My situation:
    1) First problem I encountered was kernel panic on startup. I fixed it fixed by replacing new AppleSMC.kext by older one from 10.8.* version I suppose  (i used KextWizard).
    2) Time after time MacBook restarts and then shows white screen with a message "your computer restarted because of a problem" (or something very similar). I'm able to start system after Cmd+Option+P+R and safe mode.
    3) If I don't use the way described in point 2, I receive kernel panics with reboot (screenshots made in verbose boot mode attached).
Any help will be highly appreciated.

My iSight camera ... does not work on any Apple OSX software on my early 2008 MacBook PRO 17" - Mavericks 10.9.2...
Having "performed all of the iSight Troubleshooting", you have already reinstalled OS X, Firefox, and Chrome, updated all of them to the latest versions, uninstalled all third-party mirroring software, and tested in more than one OS X login user account.
If you now restart your Mac and launch only Photo Booth, does not the PB window now display the image your camera is viewing?
If the answer is no, even for the simple Photo Booth app, we are left wondering how scratch.mit.edu (a Flash-based web site) can find a working camera when using the Chrome browser.
If the answer is still no, my first suggestion would be to click the "Check Now" button in your  > System Preferences... > Flash > Advanced menu command.  If there is a later update, apply it, and test your camera again using Apple's iSight troubleshooting suggestions.
If you were already using the current Flash version, or if updating it does not change any troubleshooting results, I would try reinstalling OS X one more time in case you had a bad download or install on your previous try.  Then test again with Apple's troubleshooting suggestions.
