Apple LED Display top and bottom

Hello, is it normal for the display to be brighter at the top of the screen vs the bottom half? I've noticed that it's slightly more "dark yellow" at the bottom than at the top. Thanks!

Ahhh, that must be it. I can't connect it to my Mac Pro, since it's not long enough. Waiting on my extension to arrive on Friday. Once I connect the USB, does it work with F1/F2 keys or only in Display settings? Thanks!!!

  • Best stand for MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display

I am buying a MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display tomorrow. I want to have a two display setup, similar to what I have seen in the Apple Store. I believe they used a Griffin Elevator. I want to make sure of two things: that the stand is sturdy enough so that my laptop won't slide off of it and that I can adjust the stand/monitor so that the tops are level (so that moving my mouse from the laptop to monitor and back is smooth - i.e. the cursor doesn't jump up or down.
I like the fact that I can use this setup to go mobile very quickly, but what about my direct Ethernet connection. I wish there were a stand/dock such that I could hook everything up to it and then just undock the entire machine.

How did you solve the problem of closing the Macbook Pro when it was connected to the display and preventing it from going to sleep?
I am thinking about buying one. When I went to the local Apple Store the tech guys told me that it would be necessary to keep the laptop open slightly when connecting it to the display. They said it was something to do with cooling. It didn't sound right to me. I'm sure that Apple didn't solely intend for the Cinema Displays to be used by Mac Pro and Mac Mini users.
There must be a simple way to "dock" or connect a Mac laptop (Macbook Pro or Macbook) to an Apple Cinema display or any other display with DVI input while keeping the laptop closed with an external keyboard and mouse connected and still be able to use the SuperDrive.
I'm very curious about how you handled this.
    All the best for now,
    Ambrose

  • Button Top and Bottom - one displays other not

I created a report region and added a button to it:
Create a button in a region position
    Button name: SUBMIT
    Label: Submit
    Button Type: Image
    Image Name: #COMPANY_IMAGES#lisa.gif
Position: Top and Bottom of region
Then I viewed the page - the top image displays correctly, but the bottom one doesn't. So viewing page source I saw, that Top image src attribute is
    wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=505603948315924&p_fname=lisa.gif
whereas the Bottom image had src of
    /i/wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=505603948315924&p_fname=lisa.gif
Looks like a bug to me :-/
I'll create two buttons now (one for top and other for bottom button), no worries, but I thought you should know.

    Kaja,
Yes it's a bug. Thanks for letting us know.

  • I plugged my macbook pro into an external monitor, then unplugged it later and now it is stuck with black borders on top and bottom and zoomed out like it is still on the monitor. How do I fix it?

I started using my external monitor with my macbook pro and as soon as I plug it in it to the monitor it adjusts the screen by zooming out a bit and creating about 3/4 of an inch black borders on the top and bottom of the screen. But these dont show up on the monitor so I assumed it was fine. But when I took it off the monitor, the borders were still there like it was still on the monitor. Any hellp? Its starting to mess with my eyes haha.

    Hi aefulcher,
It sounds like you had the external display set to mirror the internal display so the resolution(s) were changed to match each other.

Check if the current resolution matches your screen's natiive resolution.

  • In screenshare the top and bottom of my screen is cutoff.

Hello, I am trying to connect my Macbook Pro to my TV with an HDMI cord. It seems to work fine, except that the top and bottom of my screen is being cutoff on the tv. I cannot see the bottom half of my dock, and I cannot see the top menu bar with the apple at all. I have tried all of the different resolutions for the display, and on every one of them I have this problem. How can I fix this? I have also noticed that it does this with some other displays, not just this one. It works on about 50% of the different screens I try, and the other half does this. Here is a picture of the problem: http://imgur.com/HoR7a

Thanks a lot. That was much simpler than I thought it should be. One interesting thing though, is that you cannot do this when it is set to mirror your screen. Any idea for how?

  • Thin horizontal distorting lines on top and bottom of screen

    Hi,
I've got a g3 imac (600mhz Snow, 10.2), it's a friends actually, he brought it over to see if I could help him out. It apparently came on gradually, but now, the top and bottom of the screen is obliterated by horizontal lines, rapidly oscillating, side to side. I'm going to try an external monitor later in the week, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. The lines at the very top calm down after ten minutes or so, but the dock at the bottom of the screen is completely distorted, it's only the middle third of the screen that remains only slightly jittery.
ANy help, as ever, would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Kev.
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)   g3 imac 500; g4 ibook 800; g5 imac 1.8

Sounds like a hardware problem. Attaching the external display will show if the problem is in the CRT itself, or in the analog video hardware. Since the problem gradually because worse over time, it doubt that it is related to software. Trying the PRAM battery replacement was a good idea, even if it wasn't the problem. If you haven't done it, you can do a reset of PRAM during startup.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
However, I think it's either the CRT or the analog video hardware going bad.

  • Set top and bottom inset spacing values in Text Frame Options via jsx script

I am looking for a way to set the top and bottom inset spacing values only to 2 points in Text Frame Options via a .jsx scrpt.
For years, I have used a script that sets Preferences, such as:
    with(app.storyPreferences){
        opticalMarginAlignment = false;
        opticalMarginSize = 12;                // pts
I would like to add the code to this same script that would make Top = 0p2 and Bottom 0p2 but leave Left and Right as 0p0.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the full .jsx file that we now use to set preferences.
Ideally, this could be modified to include setting any text frame created to have 0p2 inset Top and Bottom, but 0p0 Left and Right:

  • Macbook goes to sleep randomely when connected to Apple LED Display

I have  an issue with my Macbook Pro (2009 model) when it's connected to my 27' Apple LED Display. For no apparent reason that I can tell, it just goes to sleep at random, and after I wake it up by pressing a key (bluetooth keyboard), the mouse cursor looks messed up:
It might be a bit hard to tell from the blurry photo (I don't know of a way to take a screenshot with the cursor, so I used my iPhone), but it's too halves of the spinning beachball.
There's nothing in the console's log that indicates the reason for switching to sleep mode. It's also not the magnets of the Macbook pro used to detected when the lid is closed (I'm using the NoSleep utility that prevents that behavior). I've already tried resetting the PRAM. Also, this behavior never happens when the macbook isn't connected to the external display, so that probably aint a heating problem either (also the temperature readings are all in bounds).
Any help would be very appreciated, as that thing is driving me crazy.

    Jon,
Along the lines of my comment in your other thread. The battery connection cable between the logic board and the battery is also known as the "sleep/switch" connector. This little cable not only communicates battery power to & from the machine but also has a handle on regulating the machine's sleep process (and wake from sleep).
I've seen several MacBooks that have come across my work bench which are suffering from this exact issue you're describing and we're remedied by replacing that cable.
The component I'm referring to is this one-

  • IMovie is outputting my movie with big black bars at top and bottom that I don't want

    Quicktime: Ver 10.3
    iMovie: Ver 10.0.5
    OS: OS X Ver 10.9.4
So, let me try and explain...
I have recorded gameplay footage of my game directly from my Mac screen using Quicktime's Record Screen option. I've tried recording both in fullscreen mode (with my game also running in fullscreen mode) and a section of the screen by dragging the mouse to select a 640X960 box (with my game running in windowed mode which is displayed at 640x960 resolution).
This initial recording direct from the screen displays fine, both when I view it in windowed mode and when I view it fullscreen, with the height of the game stretching to the full height of the video area but obviously with big black borders to either side in fullscreen mode (as it's basically iPhone ratio in portrait mode).
    WindowedFullscreen
This ^^^ is how they should look.
The problem is when I try to import the movie into iMovie, mess around with some fade-ins and music and stuff and then output the edited movie via iMovie...
When I then try to view this outputted movie in windowed mode on certain sites (Kickstarter) my game footage doesn't take up the full height of the video and instead floats in the middle with big black bars at the top and bottom, which I don't want. It's fine when I go fullscreen but the problem is that when I load this video into Kickstarter it shows the non-fullscreen view of the video with this big black border and it looks really amateur.
This is what Kickstarter shows in windowed mode i.e. the way you see Kickstarter videos by default when you press Play; unless I go fullscreen and then it takes up the full heigh of the view.
Note: Windowed mode actually looks fine when viewed directly on my Mac but I know it's not Kickstarter that is causing the issue because I can see in the thumbnail preview on my Mac that the video is somehow encoded with the big black bars at the top and bottom. Also, I uploaded the unedited videos to Kickstarter just to check and they display fine. So it's definitely iMovie that is adding these annoying black borders at the top and bottom for whatever reason (and I'm not intentionally scaling the video down in iMove or anything like that as far as I know). I also can't use the unedited footage however because it has no sound and no transitions etc.
Does anyone know what night be causing this and how to get rid of it.

You are lucky to see anything - iMovie 5 is not really compatible with Snow Leopard, which only supports iMovie 6 and above.
Snow Leopard only runs on Intel Macs. iMovie 5 was never written, AFAIK, for Intel, just for the PPC Macs they had in those old days!

  • HT202879 how do i add a line to the top and bottom of a text box only

i have a text box in my Pages document but i need to be able to add a line tot he top and bottom only to my text box. can i pleae get some help.

    Hello alegna23,
To add a line just to the top and bottom of a text box, you will need to add the two lines as shapes.  Follow the steps below to add a line to your document:
    Add a shape
Click Shape in the toolbar.Click the arrows to see more shape styles.
Select a shape to add it to the page.
In step 2, select a line and use the squares on the end of the line to help resize the line.  You can find the full article here:

  • I have an 11" Macbook Air. When I use Garageband it opens in a window so large that the bottom corner is not accessible so I can't decrease the window so that I can see the top and bottom of the window at the same time. Any suggestions?

When I use Garageband the window is so large that I can't reach the bottom corner to decrease the window to fit inside the display so that I can see the top and bottom of the window at the same time.
    Any suggestions?

You can reduce the window by grabbing any edge or corner.   You don't have to use the bottom right anymore.
You could also temporarily move the dock to the left/right so you can reach the bottom.

  • Dual Apple LED  Display (24") with NVIDIA GeForce GT120 & ATI RadeonHD4870

I have recently purchased a MacPro4,1 Processor Name:Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz with 6GB memory with the NVIDIA GeForce GT120. Then I purchased a ATI Radeon HD 4870 to be able to run the 2 Apple Cinema displays and an external monitor.
I installed the ATI in slot 1 and the GT120 in slot 3. I use different motion software and the computer seems to recognize as the primary card the GT120 and not the ATI. This creates a problem with the different software I use as it uses for processing and rendering the GT120 and not the ATI faster card.
This is also visible when I go to system preferences and change the display preferences and try to shift them around, the first display is the one that has the GT120 card (which is in slot 3)!!!
Also sometimes I get funny characters in some windows.
I spent the extra dollars to get an ATI card but I am not using its capabilities which is inviting me to disconnect the GT120 card... but then I cannot use the second Apple LED display due to its Apple's miserable connector policy. This is telling me that next time I should not buy the monitors from Apple as its connectors are not trully compatible with the hardware they sell.
I searched everywhere but cannot find similar cases which is very strange. Any solution friends?

You could remove the NVIDIA GT120 and connect the second display to the ATI card's DVI port with a DVI to Mini DisplayPort converter.

  • IWeb not publishing edited "top" and "bottom" page backgrounds

I have edited the page background for the "Layered Paper" theme to fit an 800px space (up from 700px). The backgrounds display correctly in iWeb, but in Safari, only the middle image is the correct 800px format. The top and bottom both display the old 700px image as a "tile."
I have emptied Safari's cache and deleted the original 700px images from the iWeb theme folder. This also occurs under IE8. Any ideas?
    site: carl.stoneh.am

Yes. I edited those files directly (after backing up the originals in case something went wrong).
I did discover a tutorial online that suggested just dragging the "new" header footer into iWeb, so I tried that out. If you visit the "CV" age, you'll see that the header works just fine (I left the footer alone for testing purposes). I guess that will do as a stopgap, but I'm still curious as to why iWeb used the correct image file in the program but published it to MobileMe using a 700px width. Is this perhaps something that's just hard-coded in the program, and changing the width of a page doesn't "correctly" publish larger images for the header and footer (unless they're just gradients, etc)?

  • 1280x720 video on screen getting squished on top and bottom

Premiere CS4.  I exported a 1280x720 video to play on a LCD TV with the following settings
in the attached.  The TV is set to play 16:9.  I have it set to square pixels since the zip file with the video is playing the video file, not a dvd player.
But...there is black on the top and bottom of the video.  What could be causing this?  Is it my export settings?  Maybe it can't be a wmv?? I'm confused?

    No answer here; just curiosity.
The "zip file" you describe: How are you getting the video to the TV?
Our one and only "HD" TV so far is a relatively small, cheap one.  It has lots of settings for how to deal with various formats, and sometimes (TV signals or commercial DVDs) I cannot find a completely correct option.  I suspect that its native display resolution is odd.  Harm, is it possible that native resolution of a display can be an issue?
So I'd test your output on a "better" TV.

  • TS3899 I am unable to access my mail account. I press the mail icon, the page refreshes to the mail format page - blue bar top and bottom, white text space in the middle.... and that is as far as it goes. It does not list my email accounts or offer any.

I am unable to access my mail account on my iphone, which I have been able to do previously. I press the mail icon, the page refreshes to the mail format page - blue bar top and bottom, white text space in the middle.... and that is as far as it goes. It does not list my email accounts or offer any.

Close the mail app, double tap the home button and completely close out of the app.
then do a reset, no data loss.  Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
