Apple login password won't accept password

This is very weird. This morning I logged in with my password. Then I shut down the computer. I logged in, at least I tried to but to no avail. Password was not accepted. Then I got a signal. Reset Apple id password. I did. I changed the password and logged in . Then Apple wanted to change everything of course, Icloud etc. I did but not with my new Apple id password cause it was not accepted. So I went back to my old password and it was accepted. The funny thing was I went for 2 steps verification. Added a phone number. Got a code. Printed the Recovery Key. Now I wonder what's going on?

Can I skip the login password for this computer? Cause that's what it says, a login password has been set up with this user. So , I got 2 options. log in with my Icloud password or make a new password all the time APPARENTLY when I want to log in. I never made that change.

I've been having connection problems with my ATV2 for quite some time. Internet connections are fine, regardless of whether wired or via Ethernet, but it simply won't connect to my iTunes library (spinning wheel for ever). What "irks" me here is your comment below:
I'm a little concerned by the Apple TV not being seen in iTunes when you try to restore by micro USB, this is pretty much a last resort repair.
Is the ATV2 supposed to show up in iTunes and if so, how/where? It sure doesn't show up in my iTunes! I seem to be able to connect, as when I try to close iTunes after one of my many attempts to stream a movie I close iTunes it complaines that there's one or more ATVs connected.
@Peter: please do respond here as to whether a replacement ATV2 has solved your problems ... don't really want to shell out more money for it, but if it solves the problems...

Very strange login problem - won't accept known good password

I have brought an old powerbook G4 back to life, mostly to run old apps that dont run on the current system.
I did a clean install of Tiger (10.4). It worked fine, but did nto support some security protocols for secure web pages and email access, so i decided to upgrade to 10.5 (Leopard). It did so successfully. so i thought.
Got to login screen. Correct machine network name. Correct user ID (me). Put in password. Long delay, screen "shakes head". This occured many times. Caps lock is not on. Password is correct.
So, you say" it probably wasnt". OK, i put in the original 10.5 DVD and rest the password. Tried again. No go, same problem.
Called Apple. They have no clue. said re-install 10.5, something in login corrupted. So i did. Booted up - c'est le meme chose.
Can anyone think of what's up? and in fact, since it was set ( in tiger) automatically boot, why its even asking for login credentials? I suspect the two may be linked.

OK, update ( sometimes people being late is ok).
That worked, mostly.
I ran the filesystem check, looked ok.
Next command i do not understand, btu it did the trick.
removed .applesetupdone and checked it was gone.
rebooted
made new admin account
logged in
old admin account was GONE, but home directory was there
recreated and linked to home directory.
reboot
seems ok
ran software update - claimed i dont have privileges to save the file - -seems to be updating anyway, we shall see. More oddity.
Will reboot next week. Gotta go.

I changed my Apple ID and password with help from Apple support staff, but iCloud still has old Apple id and won't accept the old Apple id password. How do I change iCloud id to the new Apple ID?

How to change iCloud ID to my newly created Apple ID? The old password for the old iCloud ID no longer works so I cannot delete the old iCloud account to create a new iCloud account because the old password no longer works .... can't turn off FINE MY PHONE.

Can't do this as I cannot sign in using my old APPLE id as no password(s) will work with that old id - therefore I cannot get the other screens to perform the rest of the steps recommended. Any other suggestions?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Login password sometimes rejected

Computer rejects login password from sleep about 40% of the time on first attempt. Anyone ever heard of this happening? I just upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard. Never happened with Snow Leopard.
MacBook Pro mid 2010, Mac OS Mountain Lion, 8GB ram, 500GB HD 1/3 used, battery fully charged.

I may have figured it out...
Rogers Yahoo Mail asks for your password every two weeks. So when this happens it will do the same with Apple Mail, but won't accept the password through Apple Mail.
So I logged onto the web-based mail and entered my password there, and everything seems to work fine... For two more weeks.

Apple won't accept my serial number

I just bought a new laptop pro. Tried to do an atomatic upgrade to Mountain Lion. Submitted my receipt as required which includes the correct serial number. Keep receiving automated emails telling me that the 'part number is missing'. Have checked the receipt against the serial number onthe machine. It is correct. Now I discover that the Apple web site won't accept my serial number either. I can't get a sensible, human response from Apple via eamil and can't organise a call back becuse you need to have a serial number to do this ... any suggestions??

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account. I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there. On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back. Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email. The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

You need to restart the iMac and hold down the Command and R keys immediately.
You will then have the utilities drop down and you choose Terminal
When Terminal opens, type exactly:
resetpassword
and press Return.
When the Reset Password window opens, select the user for which you want to change the password.
Enter the new password twice, and then click Save.
Accept the next dialog window,
And then Apply
When finished click the apple at the left side of the menu bar, and the Restart.

Cannot boot from HDD, Login won't accept password

I have a iBook G4 1Ghz, 768mb. 10.4.3
External HDD is a Prolific PL3507 120gb. Some time ago I cloned the iBook onto a partition using SuperDuper. Recently, wanting to test the clone I rebooted holding down the 'Option' key, selected the HDD volume which is seen by the iBook. (I couldn't select it otherwise could I, doh!).
Start up seems to go as it should, but slowly, but then gets to a login window which will not accept my usual login. When the clone was done I had a different password, but it won't accept that either. I have changed the iBook password back to what it was at the time of the clone, still no result.
I have tried from Startup Disk in System Preferences, again the volume is seen as a startup volume but I still get the login window and the 'shuddering' box, whatever I put in as user/password. Sometimes I get the rainbow wheel for about 15 secs while it 'thinks' about my password and then the shuddering box.
Can anyone help?

How can I access my iCloud email account when I don't remember the password and Apple won't accept the answer to my security question?

I set up an email account with " @me.com". I get a wrong password message when I try to log in. When I try to change my password I get an INcorrect answer message to the security question I'm asked my birth date so I know I have it right, unless I did a typo when I set up the account. When I choose email me the reset password lnk I cannot retrieve the email because it won't accept the password. I wanted to justemail Apple for instructions but cannot find an email address for that. Any help would be appreciated.

Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try again.
