Apple logo on MacBook

A quick (easy) question. Does the Apple logo on the MacBook light up like on the MacBook Pros? Does it stay lit up? Just to clarify, when I say the Apple logo I mean the one on the backside of the LCD.

Unfortunately, when I put the MacBook sticker on my
car, it started to overheat, and the bumpers turned
yellow

    Is this permanently illuminated?

Only when your backlight is on. It doesn't have its own light. It's just translucent and your screen backlight shows through.

  • MacBook Pro takes a long time to start up or hangs at gray apple logo after minor fall

I upgraded to Mavericks a few days ago. Everything was working fine until yesterday, when my MacBook Pro started taking a really long time to start up or restart.
Before upgrading I had some directory problems which I fixed with DiskWarrior. I then upgraded to Mavericks. There was also a fall that I took, which resulted in the MacBook Pro hitting on one corner and getting a minor dent (It was inside a padded messenger bag when I fell). It worked fine for a whole day, but the next day it started slowing down and getting stuck.
I run DiskWarrior again and there was more directory problems, which were fixed again. When I start the MacBook Pro from an external HD with Mac OS X 10.8, there is no delay in starting up. When I switch to the internal HD, then I get very long delays (5-10min) or hangs at the gray apple logo screen.
DiskUtility did not report any problems, neither did SMART report.
Could it be that the HD got somewhat damaged and gets stuck intermittently? Is it possible to start up OK some times and others to get stuck?
How can I check the HD? Shouldn't the SMART report indicate a problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my main work computer!

I think that my Mac was shutdown when it fell, but I am not 100% sure.
I did perform both SMC and PRAM resets. I will also try to run maintenance scripts. Thanks for the suggestion.
It keeps on taking around 10min to restart now, but it has not frozen yet.
The other very strange thing that happens  (and this was the first sign I had when it started acting up) is that Mail.app cannot connect to my IMAP servers (a host provider and Google), even though my Mac connects to the internet. I have the MacBook Pro on the same ethernet network as my home iMac, and I get mail without a problem on the iMac! So something is blocking the mail on the MacBook Pro.
This happened for the first time on Friday and after that I kept having the long delays in startup or freezes I mentioned before.
    Could those two be connected?
When I use an external HD as as start up I can get mail fine.

If there is no loading bar, it's usually a problem with a third party kext file in OS X itself.
You can press the power button down to force a hardware shutdown, then reboot holding the shift key down on a wired or built in keyboard, this will disable them and you go around and update your third party software.

Also take this time to backup your users files off the machine if possible.

  • MacBook Pro will not boot from Apple Logo Screen - No HD recognised

    Hi all,
I encountered a problem booting my mid 2010 MacBook Pro yesterday. I currently run OSX Mavericks.
The computer has been great for the last 4 years and has never encountered any major issues. Yesterday I dropped it on carpet while sitting on the couch (it was a VERY small impact) and I continued to use it for a few hours. I did a safari update that night also. I then closed the lid which would have put it to sleep. My flatmate asked for a file later that night, I took his USB and stuck it in my computer, THEN opened the lid. The computer never booted up (It was stuck on the apple logo with the spinning thing underneath it). After doing this for a minute or so the computer would turn off. After multiple attempts the same thing happened.
I read many posts on this - I am assuming that the problem occured because I brought it out from sleep with a USB in the side. I have taken the following steps to attempt fixing the problem -
    *safe boot - no luck
    *reset PRAM - no luck
*recovery mode boot - getting disk errors.
In recovery mode boot I cannot reinstall a new OSX version because there is no internal HD disk mounted. It only gives me the option to install OSX to the Recovery HD, which is locked.
Using Time Machine backup wont work as there is also no Internal HD detected to load to.
In Disk Utility it no longer has 'Macintosh HD' - It is further labelled 'disk0s2'. I cannot verify, repair OR erase this disk.
Can someone PLEASE assist with what I might be able to do. I need to somehow mount/unmount/detect my internal HD. I am happy to detect it and format it as I have Time Machine backups on an external HD.
I am no mac genius although I do learn quickly. If I can get assistance It would be very appreciated. I have a feeling I can sort some issues out using Terminal although I need command assitance?!?
Apologies for the long post although I want to outline everything I have done to attempt to isolate the problem.
    Thank you all in advance.

Does your flatmate have a Mac as well?
If so, you could always get a 8GB+ USB stick, download Mavericks using your Apple ID and use DiskMaker X to create a bootable installation disk on the USB stick. Then boot using the USB stick (hold down the option ey whilst booting to select it) and try to reformat your drive using Disk Utility and, if you're able, reinstall OS X on your machine and then restore from backup.
The only hitch may be that your hard drive is dead and that you need to install a new drive. You'll know once you boot from the USB stick, though, if you can format the drive or not.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • My macbook pro won't boot, I just get the apple logo but no progression.

    P.S. (pre script)
    I'm in the UK
I think my macbook's Hard-drive is capooot, here's my symptoms, windows takes 10-15 minutes to boot and when it does every program I open becomes non responsive every 20 seconds or so, so it's unusable. I've tried playing Arma 2 (which use to run fine) and windows gives me an error about cyclical redundancay checks failing (which is apparenty a HD error) and OSX boot at all (I've been waiting 2 hrs and it won't get past the apple logo). when OSX did boot some of my apps in launch pad didn't have a logo on them (presumablly because they didn't load).
anywho, I ran a disc fragmentation analysis in windows (despite not trusting windows to fix any of my problems ) and it said 22% fragmented but I only installed windows about a week ago (and have only 1 7GB file I think).
I have had troubles installing windows and have had to re-install it twice, each with progressivly more trouble, 1st time, bootcamp installed it for me (easy!). 2nd, bootcamp couldn't partition it, however disc utility managed it . 3rd time, neither could partition it (probably due to fragmentation I presume) so I had to back up OSX, erase my HD, partition it, install OSX, restore OSX files, install windows 7.
Anyway, does this appear to be a HD problem? My mac is about 8 months old so I still have 28 months left of my warranty (I got a free 3 year warranty because I'm a student, top tip people ) So what do I do to hopefully get a replacement HD? WHAT'S THE NUMBER? (I capslocked because the thing is long and that's the main point).
I've tried the express lane thingy but the page doesn't load when I enter my serial number (I've even downloaded safari on my mum's computer to see if it'll load on that) :/

The three beeps mean, I think, self-test has found memory problems.

  • My MacBook Pro stated that it needed to be updated. I clicked yes to restart the computer and update but when it restarted it stays on the gray screen with the apple logo and then pops up, stating "unable to find driver for this platform." What do I do?

My MacBook Pro stated that it needed to be updated. I clicked yes to restart the computer and update but when it restarted it stays on the gray screen with the apple logo and then pops up, stating "unable to find driver for this platform." What do I do?

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
Don't install the Thunderbolt update -- it's defective.

Connect to iTunes and restore. If you have difficulty, you may have to put the device into Recovery Mode. See the instructions in this support document. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

  • HT3053 I have a 13inch MacBook Pro and when I switch it on the apple logo appears then a slot and the circular symbol which is turning and then before opening the home screen it switches off again. Is there a sequence that I can use to force it to load.

I have got a 13 inch MacBook Pro and it got stuck in a loop so I switched it off by holding the power button down and now when I switch it on the apple logo appears then I get a blank slot at the bottom of the screen then the circle appears and rotates and then it switches off again, I have tried starting it again with the system disc that came with it when it was new but it makes no difference. Is there a sequence that I can use to force it to start.

Sorry. We can't help you. It's no longer an iPhone. Apple won't touch it.
Take it to whoever replaced the screen and see if they can help you.
iPhones are not user servicable and Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. I'd be surprised if you were actually able to back it up at this point. It sounds like it's completely borked.

  • I seem to have 2 Apple IDs, one on my MacBook Pro and another on my devices.  If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud.  I have no idea how I go 2 IDs

Can I get rid of one  ID?  How do I do that?

    one on my MacBook Pro
That's not an Apple ID. That is your admin account which you can view in System Preferencs > Accounts or Users & Groups.
If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud.  I have no idea how I go 2 IDs
Just use your current Apple ID when you setup your iCloud account that you use for your devices.

  • I have a MacBook Pro 2008 with 17 inch screen. Experiencing a lock up when turning on power to boot up. While booting up it goes to gray screen with Apple logo and disc spinning icon running and doesn't go to my desktop. Any solutions to the problem?

I have an early 2009 17 inch MacBook Pro that just went on the fritz. When turning on the power it will go into boot up mode to the gray screen with the apple logo, then the disc icon will be running and will continue running, not allowing to proceed to my desk top screen. It's pretty much locked up at this point where I have to do a forced shut down by holding down the power button. I've tried everything that I know of such as taking battery out and pressing power button for 5 seconds and then reinstalling battery. I've cleaned inside of computer with compressed air duster in can as well as other key commands for resets. I've read that this is a common problem with the earlier MacBook Pros. Is this a problem that I can fix or does it have to be taken in for service? Any solutions to the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This could be a software/state problem or a hardware problem.  Here are steps to resolve the former.

Cannot get iPad 2 charged beyond 1%.  All charging ports tried: AC adapter(s), USB 2 port on MacBook Pro. ITunes shows iPad only for a few seconds. iPad displays alternately: Apple logo, battery w/slim red band, then battery w/1% charged information. How can I get it to charge beyond 1% so I can proceed to troubleshoot?

I have had your exact problem with my old 3GS, now I cannot even get it to turn on, I still see that it is supposed to be charging though, but it never charges any so it seems.
I replaced the Lower Dock Connector Assembly back when it still charged while hooked to my PC, and it found it made no real difference.

At this point I am not sure if I should replace the battery and hope for the best, or just junk the phone, I cannot really sell it if I cannot reset it...

While updating my MacBook Pro to the newest software, it froze with a grayish screen with a Apple logo and a frozen pinwheel right below it. What can I do to finish updating or to fix this problem?

We can't help you if you don't even know what you are installing.  Never install anything if you do not know what it is.  Installings through Software Update always have explanations which you should be reading to see if you actually need and/or want them.
That being said, it appears you attempted to upgrade to Mavarick.  Although I am not positive.
Sorry, I am going to back out of this because I nor you know what it was you installed.  Hopefully, someone else will chime in here.
    GOOD LUCK!
