Apple loops in .AIFF ?

Hi !
Ok, me and my friend, we were having fun, jammin with logic pro 8 , and then suprisingly, I realized that I couldn't edite destructively apple loops. I learned that it was because of the .caf extention, and that compressed audio file cannot be edited destructively, then that I have to bounce then, convert them in .wav or aiff, etc ...
But the subject of this topic is something else :
My friend actually could edit the apple loops without convert them.
So we just checked his apple loops folder (in is HD, not his user home), and we were really suprised to find all the apple loops in ... .AIFF format !
so our question is : how do you think it happend ? because my friend has no idea how come his apple loops are in .aiff
Is it normal ?
is there a precess to do that.
It seems that it's more convenient to have the apple loops in .aiff
Is there any problem that we didn't see yet about that ?
thanks guys

Logic 7 and Garageband apple loops, prior to iLife 08, all used .aif files. so most likely your friend already had those jam packs installed before upgrading to Logic 8

  • How to convert an .aiff to Apple Loop in Soundtract Pro 2.0.2

    Hi,
I am trying to convert an .aiff or an .mp3 to an Apple Loop to change the clip speed and transpose it. How do I do that form inside Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2?
I am new to Soundtrack pro.

    Hello Pascal,
an "easy" way would be to have a "Main.VI", where you put in all VI's from the llb as subVI's and then save the Main.vi "with options" as "LV6.02" to a new llb.

  • Can automator turn thousands of samples into Apple Loops? (VSL rep/runs)

    Hello everyone,
First off, I'm familiar with how to build my own apple loops and find them to be VERY useful, especially in the application I'm about to describe. However, I find it quite tedious to build them manually, especially when dealing with thousands of samples. Thus I'm looking for the best/easist way to create apple loops, hopefully using Tigers "automator."
Heres my situation: I use/love VSL sample libs, which contain many articulations/phrases, but some of these are "tempo specific" such as the numerous instrument runs, repetition files, glissandos, crescendos, etc, and when doing a film score I cannot let tempo specific files dictate the tempo of the piece (the film does that). Thus I've started taking some of the VSL samples (especially the repetition and runs) and turning them into apple loops, which conform to the tempo of the piece. Within reason, the results are WONDERFUL allow me to continue to use these very realistic phrases at almost any tempo!
However, I've grown tired of manually converting these files to apple loops, and thus have only converted a handful of these phrases into apple loops. Whats worse is when I'm forced to stop the creative process to turn a phrase into an apple loop only to find that after all that time creating the loop, it doesnt work!
Is it possible to use Tigers automator to automatically convert .wav files into apple loops? This would be a great time saver, and would possibly allow for turning the thousands of samples into apple loops. Anyone currently doing this type of thing? Is it worth it in the end?
Thanks in advance for any help/tips you can provide.

    Hi Jonathan,
You can use Logic to create AIFFs of these files very quickly.
    Then, open them in ALU.
    Select all files.
    Change 1 field.
    Save.
You now have Apple Loops -- they will have a few few things automatically inserted such as guessed tempi -- they will almost always be set to 4/4 to the tempo closest to 120(?)... but they will load and many will load usably for your needs.
Now, I don't know exactly what you are facing with this concept but it sounds like a very big job and this will still leave much time hand tuning. If this is true, I recommend you have a look at Accelerando:
    http://www.eigentoneresearch.com/Accelerando.html
Accelerando contains several tools which will substantially decrease the tedium - and yes, it does use Automator. It works directly with Logic Pro, Apple Loops Utility - and more. Ultimately, you may be able to create workflows which handle this task with 1 gesture per Apple Loop - although a large library of workflows would be required to accomplish this to most users expectations so 2 or more gestures is more likely. of course, you can try to set up a more intelligent scheme if, say, the files can be filtered by an attribute such as their name.

  • Converting Acid Apple Loops -great App.!!!

Sample Manager does this perfectly! Once your Acid .wav files are converted to 44.1kHz aif Apple Loops with correct tempo & beat information, you can then load the files into the Apple Loops Utility for batch or individual tagging (genre/Instrument etc.). Once this is done & you've saved the results, you will have a new set of Apple Loops which you can drag onto the Loop Browser and they will be indexed perfectly.
Really, really useful. If you're not on Tiger yet-I'm not either- the Panther version of Sample Manager does the job with no problems. You might have to repair permissions before resaving the files if they came from a sample CD or commercial source (as they probably will).
    Nigel

STLU is that is places the loops in a folder entitled "Converted to Aiff"
I honestly didn't find that an issue. The folder was created within the folder which had contained the bunch of loops (AFAIR). And since the loops were now tagged, all I was doing was dropping them into the loop browser where they were sorted, searchable, and fully accessible.
Then again, this was not much more than an experiment well over a year and a half ago <shrug>

  • Apple Loops Utility does not work at all for imported file

I have imported an MP3 into Logic Pro 8, which converts it to an AIFF file, and am trying to configure the project to sync to that tracks tempo. From what I understand, I do this by opening it in the ALU and having it add tempo information to the file.
My problem is that when I open the file in the ALU, and I have version 2.0.1, literally almost NOTHING works. I can hit the play/stop/jump to start buttons and they work. However, the volume control does nothing. Likewise, the Tempo slider as well as the transpose dropdown don't do anything.
On the Transients tab, the Transient Division dropdown and Sensitivity slider are grayed out. Since I've never used this tool before, I would assume that this is how I get the utility to detect the beats in the song. The waveform view just shows the song waveform, with no markers as it does if I open an Apple Loop.
If I switch to the Tags tab, ever single checkbox is grayed out. Finally, if I go to the file menu, all Save options are grayed out.
My first thought, is of course, that I'm just an idiot and that I don't know what I'm doing. However, in searching the forum, I found this post from a year ago where someone is complaining about what seems to be the exact same problem, and they did not receive a single response.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8516386&#8516386
Any ideas on either how to get ALU to work or to get my project to sync to the MP3 without requiring the ALU?
    Thanks!
    Mark

In case you are importing a whole track you won't get the results you are expecting with ALU....
Under *File Type* in the Tags tab select Looping so that the Transients Division and the rest of the settings be active.
    Hope this helps

  • Apple Loops Questions

    1) Where does Logic store user-created loops that I've added to the library?
    2) What is the easiest/best way to convert a regular .aiff or .wav file into an apple loop?
    3) I'm getting a lot of artifacts when I use loops I created--even when the loop is being played back at the same tempo as the original! Is this normal? You'd think that if the original cut was 120 BPM, and I turn it into an Apple loop, and stick it into another project at 120 BPM, there should be no artifacts, right?
    4) Sometimes when I click "add to loop library" Logic won't let me select "looping" as an option. This is after I've already analyzed the cut in Apple Loops Utility. What's up with that?
Any help, insight or guidance would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

Edit: Found them They are at:
    ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops
Before I was checking the root /Library, which is why I couldn't find them.
2/ apple loop utility application / check it ...
I have been using it, but considering the strange behavior I'm getting (see question #3 and #4) I think I might be missing a step or doing it wrong. Right now I open an audio selection in Apple Loops Utility, fill in the tags, mess around with the transient sensitivity, then "save." So why can't I add it as a loop after that?
    3/ no of course.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
4/ add to appleloop library doesn't mean it is converted, check appleloop utilty first then add them to the Lib
I did use the loop utility first. I mentioned that in my original post.

  • Why doesn't Logic recognize my loop as an Apple Loop

I have challenges with getting LPX to recognize my wav > aiff file as a bona fide apple loop that I can then stretch tempos.
I have a drum brushes loop that I exported in WIN7/Audition, saved as wav and moved over the my mac. Then I dragged it into LPX, found the correct exact tempo manually (60bpm) in order to make an Apple Loop. Couldn't do it with the wav so saved it as an aiff from within LPX. LPX sees the "tempo information" (not really) and then was able to drag into Apple Loops browser, still, didn't create the tempo meta data or whatever it does to allow me to stretch it. I drag the re-indexed loop on an audio track and it's juts the same 60 bpm loop. Changing my global tempo does not alter the tempo of the loop.
Appreciate any help it getting another 10 bpm outta this thing for a project. Took forever to find a decent ballad drum with brushes!
    thanks

OK that works insofar as it saves the file with no issues and I can drag into the track area (does say there is time data to import- "YES") but it doesn't change with global tempo changes.
Also maybe there is a problem with the index? I deleted the other attempts from User Loops >SingleFiles folder but LPX still is searching for the file at every index.
    So two problems now:
index still looks for older files
ALU is saving but LPX not changing tempo of Apple Loop
I read the manual re: file type.
The File Type tag determines if an application treats a file as a looping or non-looping file. Looping files are matched to the project tempo and key— if the Key tag is set to a value other than None. Non-looping files are not matched to the project tempo or key. (Untagged files added to a project are treated as non-looping.)
When I choose "Looping" in ALU, it changes the sound drastically which although would give tempo stretch, is probably ties to it thinking it's 120 bpm (and not 60)?
Yet it was recorded at 60 bpm.
The catch-22 is that the ALU can't recognize my tempo and if I change it (via choosing "looping", the only way to correct the beats btw) it messes with the sound because it's twice as fast.
Otherwise, as a non-loop, I'm stuck with only 60 bpm (even though it has "time data" to import)

  • Third Party Apple Loops not being shown in Loop Browser.

    Hey Everyone!
I posted this in the GB forum but nobody answered... maybe here someone can shed some light on this issue.
I am a quite experienced user of GB, Logic and Soundtrack, and usually I find the workarounds for these kind of problems but I'm stumped here.
-I've recently got 4 Big Fish "JamPacks" with a lot of apple loops (they were purchased as "apple loops" and they came in a folder called "apple loops")
-I installed all of them in /library/audio/apple loops (this is my default location for ALL my apple loops)
-I trashed the search indexes from /library/audio/apple loops Index (the only location where I have search indexes on my computer)
-dropped the entire "apple loops" folder in the GB loops browser.
-all the previously installed loops show up but only three of the new packs show up on the loop browser, the fourth one is nowhere to be found.
I tried reindexing three or four times in different ways
I also tried dropping just some of the apple loops of this particular folder directly on the loops browser and still no luck.
Actually, these individually dropped loops appeared in the /library/audio/apple loops/user loops/single files folder, so GB took them. but they are not found in the loop browser.
    what's going on?
Why other identically crafted loops in the same folder (but not the same subfolder) are indexed but not these?
Could it be that they are wrongly formatted or not formatted at all as Apple Loops?
    How can I check that?
    Any Clues?
    Cheers!

    still nothing....
Now I have an update: I ran some of the loop files through Apple Loops Utility and a a first glance, they are not tagged...
Is there any good way to be sure they are/aren't formatted as apple loops?
Shouldn't the loop browser take any .aiff file even if it is not tagged?
I appreciate ANY input at all... I'm shocked.

  • Apple Loops in Mainstage?

I'm very new to Logic software. I noticed that all the Apple Loops are easily accessible in Logic but not MainStage. Is there any way I can use them in MainStage? I tried exporting tracks as WAV and AIFF files but then couldn't figure out how to import them to use in MainStage. If Apple Loops can't be used in MainStage, is there a way to make, say, an atmospheric sound keep playing until you stop it from just one touch of the keyboard?

Thank you. So, using MainStage as a live instrument, I'd like to play some of the great sound effects (wind/water/dog) and atmospheres I can find in Logic Pro under Loops. Is there any way to access these with MainStage? It would be a pity not to be able to for live performance, but if it's not possible, are you suggesting that I create the atmospheres for myself using the EX24 and Ultrabeat, or are you suggesting that there may be a way to use those software instruments to create loops of the sounds that are available in MainStage?
    thanks!

  • Apple Loops Utility Question

Can you some how bring up the selected transient spots of a created apple loop into Logic for chopping purposes? then import them into an exs instrument? and if so will the chops adjust accordingly when the tempo is changed on the transport?

    Dah

    No,
If you want to do that , you need to get Recycle from Propellerheads.
    The guys who make Reason,
With Recycle, you can open a Wave or Aiff file, make the slice markers and save it as a Rex file.
You can import a Rex file into EXS and do what you describe.

  • Creating new 'category/index' for apple loops in logic

As well as the standard apple loops, I currently have an additional apple loops jampack & a number of self-made apple loops.
These have been indexed automatically, & can be referenced via the drop-down on the top right of the loop browser as 'jampack' & 'my loops' respectively.
I've just bought a 3rd party dvd of apple loops, & would like to be able to reference these via the same kind of category in the loopbrowser drop down, however, the 3rd party DVD has no 'installer' like the official jampack, but instead just has folders of 'apple-loopyfied' AIFFs to drop in the loop browser.
I assume if this is the case they will appear by default under 'my loops', which isn't ideal - is there a way I can manually create another category(/folder?) for these loops which I can reference via Logic's loop browser drop-down?
    Any help appreciated
    Adam

ok, still stuck on this but have found the following from page 61 on 'new in logic 7.2'
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/NewFeatures_in_Logic_Pro7.2.pdf
'To keep things tidy, the loop browser offers advanced loop management tools, the jam pack management drop-down allows you to limit the display to loops from a specific jam pack, or other folder' .....then....describing an option from the pull-down, 'vendor x - choose to play loops from a specific third party vendor'
    - this looks perfect for what i want to do, but i assume a vendor must include certain data/meta-data in their loops for this indexing to work & display under vendor x as a dropdown, how do i know if the dvd I have bought will have this? hmmmm....

  • Adding presumed APPLE loops to GB3/browser

    okay
    cut me a break here.
I just downloaded about 30 Apple loops by Smart media.
They are aiffs. Some have wavs.
what are the exact intelligent steps to take to get these inside GB3 so that they are indexed and ready to be called up by typing their name? This is not as easy as you think.
they are loops for electric guitar, bass and percussion.
I have the appropriate folder in my HD. But what must i do to get them properly as per protocol to land inside the browser and be usable. Thanks for the lesson.
( I loaded them in the folders. I then dragged them onto the browser and they just cant be found )

i work on a 2 computer set at home 1pc and 1 mac...on the pc i use acid and i have thousands of loops i love and i wanted to use on gb , so i put them on a disk and added them to my itunes folder so when i click on the eye icon on the lower right corner i can axcess these loops and add them to my songs..so i suggest mabe something like that

  • Trim Audio File in Apple Loops

Is there a way to trim the audio file, or set start & end points in apple loops? I've got files where there are 4 or so different loops in them, or they start with a pickup, and I'm trying to set this up in Apple Loops so they play seamlessly (no pickup, no bit of empty space before the downbeat causing incorrect looping). Any way to do this, or do I have to open each file in a separate audio editor to trim first? Thanks!

I would recommend getting Audacity, it's a free audio editor available here.
When you do that, you can zoom in on the exact spot you want to cut it,
Highlight the region of the piece that you want to use as one of the loops,
CMND+X to cut it out of the whole peice,
CMN+N to create a new window,
CMND+V to paste the portion that you want to loop individually to the new window.
Then, you can export that one piece as an .aiff or .wav and save to your desktop or a familiar folder.
Then, right-click-->open with--> Apple Loop Utility and viola!
Repeat for each part and it should work great.
It sounds harder than it really is, but Audacity is extremely easy to use, especially for cutting pieces of audio out of a whole and exporting to useable formats. I use it in combination with ReCycle to make samples for the EXS24.

  • New Apple Loops aren't showing in Loops Library.

After adding gigs of sample libraries to the Apple Loop folder this morning, only the drums/drum kits of those libraries are showing in Logic's loop library. I've already deleted all of the index files, reindexed the library several times, and it's still not showing anything other than drums, even though in Finder, all of my samples are there. AIFF and Wav.
My sample libraries added prior to this morning still work. I have over 120 gigs of samples. I'm not sure if Logic has issues with large libraries or not, but this is a bit frustrating. Maybe someone can help? Thanks.

It does not work. Mav even if the files are converted to AIFF it can only be seen in the Apple Loops Utility. You can not see them in Loops browser in Logic.
    Give me better way !

  • Crossfading Apple Loops?

I would have thought if this was a bug it would have been fixed, as its always "bugged" me!
Does anyone know why Apple Loops seem to omit themselves from being edited - apart from splicing? If I want to chop up a loop and hack it back together without it cracking and popping between cuts the only option is to automate the volume, which is a real pain, you can't even merge Apple loops! Anyone one know why this is? Is it just some piece of metadata I can get rid of?

Wow... hehe not very "user friendly then" it must be something to do with the metadata no? after all they are "aiff" files. I always thought it was a glitch in Pro 7. Ah well... the crackles will have to stay...
    Meh
