Apple Loops Utility Question

Can you some how bring up the selected transient spots of a created apple loop into Logic for chopping purposes? then import them into an exs instrument? and if so will the chops adjust accordingly when the tempo is changed on the transport?
thanks
Dah

No,
If you want to do that , you need to get Recycle from Propellerheads.
The guys who make Reason,
With Recycle, you can open a Wave or Aiff file, make the slice markers and save it as a Rex file.
You can import a Rex file into EXS and do what you describe.

  • Tempo setting when creating Apple Loops (Utility)

Having chopped a long audio file (drum track) into exact bar/beat settings, saved as separate audio files, I'm having trouble with tempo settings when creating Loops in Apple Loops Utility.
The problem is that after saving a looped file (from the Utility), upon loading that loop file into the Utility again, the (interpreted) tempo of the file is now doubled, which really screws up playback and placement of the loop file.
For example, my original tempo is 72bpm. I save the files as Looping, with the correct number of beats for each file (4 for a 1 bar file, 8 for 2 bars, etc.), and the tempo in the info section on the right side of the Utility correctly shows 72bpm. After saving the file as a loop, and then opening it again in the Utility, suddenly the tempo shows 144, and playback is at half speed.
Oddly, I was able to successfully do this to another track from a song at a faster tempo. In that case, the loop files open as expected. And I'm using exactly the same process this time... humm???
How can I get around this?

    Hi, thanks for the tip.
In this case, I have not added the loop to the loop library. Therefore it is not in the browser.
If I drag it from the audio bin, however, sometimes it will work. Other times it does not. I cannot seem to find a "cause and effect" here.
    Thanks.
What version of Logic are you running. It works fine for me on Logic 9.1.3 in 32-bit mode. I seem to remember having the same problem as you're experiencing in Logic 8.0.2

  • All drum loops in LE 8 are greyed out and Apple loops utility 'can't be installed'

    Hi
I installed Logic Express 8 and have loads of loops missing, especially the drum loops.
Even the Apple loops utility is giving me problems. It looks like the Apple loops utility was installed (because I have the icon for it now), but everything inside that utility is greyed out. When I try to re-install it, i get the error message 'Apple Loops Utility can’t be installed on this computer. The specified message could not be found for the index 0.'
    I have a new MAC Mini OS X 10.6.7
    Help would be appreciated.
UPDATE: I have looked through other related discussions here but could not find the naswer.
I also just checked in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops to see if the files are  there and of course they are not.
In fact, funnily enough, there are 0 files in the apple loops (although I do have plenty of loops that do play in LE8, just not the drum loops), which is strange. Where are all the files?????
I also found the following interesting point in the discussions here:
'The standard installation doesn't install all the loops. You'll have to do a custom installation and check the GB extras.'
The problem is that I am never given any option to do a custom installation when I install. It only offers the normal installation mode.

    Hi,
    1. On the newer Macs, iLife 11 or so, only a part of the loops is being installed, and the other part must be downloaded via software update. GB will tell you so if you select a greyed out loop.
    2. Loops should all be in "(your HD)/library/audio/apple loops/apple", not in the user library.
    3. If you find the loops are installed there but aren't shown in LE or in GB, you might want to re-index the loops.
    4. If loops are still missing after re-indexing, drag the loops folder straight above your loop browser and drop them there - this should add the missing loops.

Its not in the Logic download from the app store, I'm afraid, this is a similar discussion that you may find helpful - bit of a muddle in communications, perhaps, but, anyway you can get Apple Loops Utility if you really need it -

  • Apple Loop Utility doesn't work

    Hi everyone,
I've been a GarageBand user for a while now and have been able to create custom loops with the Apple Loop Utility/Soundrack Loop Utility. The main problem is, that the version that I have (was using version 1.1, then downloaded version 1.3.1) won't work on my computer now, yet it did previously. When I try to launch the loop utility, a message pops up saying that 'Apple loop utility has quit unexpectedly. Click reopen to relaunch the application again.' So I did, and it still won't launch.
At that time I was using MacOS X 10.5.3, and now have recently upgraded to MacOS X 10.6.3. Is the program not compatible with Snow Leopard or intel Macs?
    Thanks
    Jamie

Well, I have never used version 1.3.1... (seems to be fairly old, regarding the number ?)
The download from the Apple Developer Website should be version 3.0.1...?
    (have you tried that one...?)
    http://connect.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MemberSite.woa/wa/downloads
As far as I know, only version 1.4 should work natively with Intel Macs...?

  • Where can I get a copy of Apple Loops Utility?

I recently dowload Logic Pro 9 from the App Store and discovered that it does not include Apple Loops Utility. Anyone know where I can donload a copy ALU?

http://www.apple.com/logicpro/resources/ lists a number of resources where you can ask. On the resource page that utility is not specifically mentioned. You may also want to check out the Wikipedia article which references your utility at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Loops_Utility

  • Would anyone know where I can get or find the Apple Loops Utility??

Would anyone know where I can get or find the Apple Loops Utility??
I heard I can use the utlility with GB. Need to speed up some vocals/timestretch and someone said this program could work?
    Any Oponions?
    thanks, technoreid

you can also find it in your "ulitilty" folder located in the Applications folder.
I assume you have Logic installed or you'd be posting in the GB forum.

  • Apple Loops Utility does not work at all for imported file

I have imported an MP3 into Logic Pro 8, which converts it to an AIFF file, and am trying to configure the project to sync to that tracks tempo. From what I understand, I do this by opening it in the ALU and having it add tempo information to the file.
My problem is that when I open the file in the ALU, and I have version 2.0.1, literally almost NOTHING works. I can hit the play/stop/jump to start buttons and they work. However, the volume control does nothing. Likewise, the Tempo slider as well as the transpose dropdown don't do anything.
On the Transients tab, the Transient Division dropdown and Sensitivity slider are grayed out. Since I've never used this tool before, I would assume that this is how I get the utility to detect the beats in the song. The waveform view just shows the song waveform, with no markers as it does if I open an Apple Loop.
If I switch to the Tags tab, ever single checkbox is grayed out. Finally, if I go to the file menu, all Save options are grayed out.
My first thought, is of course, that I'm just an idiot and that I don't know what I'm doing. However, in searching the forum, I found this post from a year ago where someone is complaining about what seems to be the exact same problem, and they did not receive a single response.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8516386&#8516386
Any ideas on either how to get ALU to work or to get my project to sync to the MP3 without requiring the ALU?
    Thanks!
    Mark

In case you are importing a whole track you won't get the results you are expecting with ALU....
Under *File Type* in the Tags tab select Looping so that the Transients Division and the rest of the settings be active.
    Hope this helps

  • Apple loop playback question

If I have an apple loop which I want to play at twice the tempo of the song I'm using it in, how do I do it? My song is at 80 bpm and when I drop my apple loop in I want it to play back at 160 bpm not 80 bpm. Is there an easy way to do this?

    - solo the audio track w/ loop in it
    - set logic to 160 bpm
    - bounce the loop & add to audio window
    - set logic back to 80 bpm, create new audio track & insert bounced audio
    - un-solo

  • Apple Loops Utility

I processed my first third party wav loops with ALU...some weirdness. I was able to drag both into the loops library but they showed up with tempos that I did not change them to. One showed at 82 bpm and the other at 114.11something. They were both at 120 originally and I did not change that. Also one was 4 beats the other 64??? They both played in the media window but strangely the faster tempo loop (64 beats) was painfully slow and the one at 82 (4 beats) sounded more like 120. Then I placed them in the project. There was audio at first but then no audio with either and they would not loop.
After following several threads in the ALU discussion, I'm about to conclude that trying to work with third party loops may be a waste of my time.
I want and need traditional beats in varied time signatures, so I'm very anxious to know exactly what is on the Jam Pack rhythm section and world beat.

  • Apple loops location question

why do some of the loops in the (assumed to be) default folder not appear in the garageband loop browser.
no drums seem to appear in the loop browser...

And when you click the "Drums" button, absolutely nothing shows up?

  • Apple Loops Questions

    1) Where does Logic store user-created loops that I've added to the library?
    2) What is the easiest/best way to convert a regular .aiff or .wav file into an apple loop?
    3) I'm getting a lot of artifacts when I use loops I created--even when the loop is being played back at the same tempo as the original! Is this normal? You'd think that if the original cut was 120 BPM, and I turn it into an Apple loop, and stick it into another project at 120 BPM, there should be no artifacts, right?
    4) Sometimes when I click "add to loop library" Logic won't let me select "looping" as an option. This is after I've already analyzed the cut in Apple Loops Utility. What's up with that?
Any help, insight or guidance would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

1/ apple loops folder / check them ....
I see folders for all Apple's loops and jam packs, but nothing for my loops.
Edit: Found them They are at:
    ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops
Before I was checking the root /Library, which is why I couldn't find them.
2/ apple loop utility application / check it ...
I have been using it, but considering the strange behavior I'm getting (see question #3 and #4) I think I might be missing a step or doing it wrong. Right now I open an audio selection in Apple Loops Utility, fill in the tags, mess around with the transient sensitivity, then "save." So why can't I add it as a loop after that?
    3/ no of course.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
4/ add to appleloop library doesn't mean it is converted, check appleloop utilty first then add them to the Lib
I did use the loop utility first. I mentioned that in my original post.

  • Homemade Apple Loops (w/Loops Utility) won't show up in Loop Browser

I just finished making a whole batch of homemade Apple Loops. Through Logic I opened up each audio file in the Apple Loops Utility, marked its tempo, marked "Looped" and then did the transients window to make sure it sounded good, then did "Save" or "Save All" from the Apple Loops Utility task tray.
I then dumped that folder full of custom loops into my loop browser for catalog'ing, but for some reason only about 10 of them show up when I click "All" to see all the loops in that folder.
So I re-opened the entire batch in Apple Loops Utility and made tiny changes to each loop's transients, just enough to trigger the dot next to the loop that means "you need to save these changes" - and I resaved the entire batch.
Tried the add-to-loop-browser process again, and again, only those initial 10 loops showed up in the browser again. The remaining 190 won't pop up.
I can't figure out what's missing or what I did wrong.  Any ideas?

    FIXED!
If you run into this same problem:
In order for your homemade loops to show up in Logic's Loop Browser, when in the Apple Loops Utility you need to select at least one "Descriptor" - if you don't, the loop won't appear in the browser.  Even if you don't need a Descriptor, just batch-select all of your loops in the tray and then pick 1 Descriptor, resave, and re-drop into Apple's Loop Browser.

  • Apple Loops Custom brower (adding samples)

Does anyone know if it's possible to custom change the category of music you put your loops into? For example I create 3 samples and would like to add them to apple loops utility so during production I can test them out over other parts in a song to see if they go. But the question is how exactly do you get your custom loops in a custom created folder you made within apple loops. What is the fastest method for this.
sorry for the repeated post just wanted to start fresh over and make sure I had the correct question across.

    What works for me:
Create a new folder in ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops with any name you want. Drop your new loops into that folder, and drop that new folder on to the Loop browser window for indexing. You may (or may not) have to restart Logic - I don't remember…

  • Some Apple Loops refuse to index when dropped onto the Loop Browser

I'm hoping somebody has a fix for this odd problem. Some of the Apple Loops which came with version 1.0.1 refuse to index via the loop browser.
First off, I had to re-install GarageBand 1.0.1 after an invalid library error message appeared after upgrading to Tiger. The re-install wasn't completed totally and it did the same thing on 2 attempts. The next error message was: Apple Loops are missing, or something to that effect. I had to install the Apple Loops found in HD->Library->Application Support->GarageBand by dropping them onto the GarageBand Loop Browser at the bottom of its window. It indexed them, they appeared, and I was happy.
Today, for some reason, I looked through the loops folder mentioned above and noticed about one third of the loops do not appear in the Loop Browser, naturally some really neat stuff is missing! So I decided to drag & drop these Apple loop files onto the browser individually. It says it's indexing them, althought the guitar icon in the dock jumps while doing so, but they never appear and don't show-up in the search box either. They can however be dropped onto the Timeline from the Finder and will play as a music file. The problem is that I cannot listen to them from the loop browser for easy selecting when arranging.
Is there any way to get these stubborn Apple files to appear & play in the Loop Browser? I was hoping they could be added via the Timeline to the Loop Browser, but have had no success. Also, I tried the Apple Loops Utility thinking maybe the appropriate tags were missing, but can't figure out what is missing, if anything.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The Loop Browser filters what it displays by only showing loops in the same Time Signature as the song you've created, and within 2 semitones of the Key your song is in.
You can change the latter by tuning off Keyword Browsing in GB's preferences.
