Apple loops won't index

I use Logic Expres 9.1.5.
So, I've made 160+ apple loops of drum parts. They are all playable in the Apple Loops utility when I open them.
However, for some nonsensical reason, no more than 31 of them will shop up in my loop browser when I re-index.
I've trashed the index file, re-indexed them by dragging them into the browser window - stil no more than 31.
What's even more bizarre is that when I only drag a few of them at a time, all 31 of the same files still re-index!

Wrong!
this could be the problem...
Permission must be active
Logic studio require license... so require permission
if the external drive as set to ignore permussion logic will never index a folder without ownreship
you need to pay for Apple Loops
they are not free
they are included in Logic Studio or you need to BUY JamPacks as individual DVD expansion...
*External disk with ignore permission are not allowed...*

*you need to create a Alias folder of all contents after installing Logic in the original location... than move that folder original on external drive.... and than you must delete de alias suffis on orther tha the folder must have the same permission as original.... It must be located in the same original location*

  • After reinstalling system software, Apple Loops won't re-index

I have an odd problem that I really need some help with. I feel like there must be a simple solution, and I'm just missing something obvious.
The other day I had to do an archive and install from my original system disks (10.4.2) and then bring myself back to 10.4.11 (running a dual quad-core G5 here). I had to manually move my audio units and virtual instruments back to my current logic setup and application support folders.
I just went into the Loop Browser, and all of my apple loops have disappeared from the window. The loops exist on various external hard drives, and I normally just drop them onto the loop browser and pick "keep at current location" - then the browser indexes them, and everything is fine.
This is the first time I'm accessing apple loops since I reinstalled the system software (and I do still have the "Previous System" folder that the archive-and-install generates), and I got a blank list in the loop browser. So I tried dragging and dropping a few loop libraries, but to no avail - it appears to index them quickly (taking 1-2 seconds) but then there's still nothing in the browser. I've deleted the old index text files, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Can anyone help me figure out how to get my apple loops to re-index properly?

  • Some Apple Loops refuse to index when dropped onto the Loop Browser

I'm hoping somebody has a fix for this odd problem. Some of the Apple Loops which came with version 1.0.1 refuse to index via the loop browser.
First off, I had to re-install GarageBand 1.0.1 after an invalid library error message appeared after upgrading to Tiger. The re-install wasn't completed totally and it did the same thing on 2 attempts. The next error message was: Apple Loops are missing, or something to that effect. I had to install the Apple Loops found in HD->Library->Application Support->GarageBand by dropping them onto the GarageBand Loop Browser at the bottom of its window. It indexed them, they appeared, and I was happy.
Today, for some reason, I looked through the loops folder mentioned above and noticed about one third of the loops do not appear in the Loop Browser, naturally some really neat stuff is missing! So I decided to drag & drop these Apple loop files onto the browser individually. It says it's indexing them, althought the guitar icon in the dock jumps while doing so, but they never appear and don't show-up in the search box either. They can however be dropped onto the Timeline from the Finder and will play as a music file. The problem is that I cannot listen to them from the loop browser for easy selecting when arranging.
Is there any way to get these stubborn Apple files to appear & play in the Loop Browser? I was hoping they could be added via the Timeline to the Loop Browser, but have had no success. Also, I tried the Apple Loops Utility thinking maybe the appropriate tags were missing, but can't figure out what is missing, if anything.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The Loop Browser filters what it displays by only showing loops in the same Time Signature as the song you've created, and within 2 semitones of the Key your song is in.
You can change the latter by tuning off Keyword Browsing in GB's preferences.

  • Converted apple loops won't add to logic.

I think others have had the same problem but I just spent hours converting wavs to apple loops and in the end, more than half of them won't even show up in logic. The ones that do show up in the logic loop pane are not "looping" either even though I selected the "looping" tag in ALU. I tried rebuilding the DB with no luck and adding the folder again with no luck. I can't believe managing loops is this hard in logic. Apple needs to take a not from ableton on loop management for sure.
Does anyone know how to get the apple loops utility to actually work right?
    Thanks all!

    It's not really a solution, more of a workaround, but I've had some luck doing this;
Since ALU just changes the data on the file, and rebuilding the database seems to only affect original, included Apple Loops (which is horse crap, btw) I decided to change their info with ALU, then import them like any other file into a Logic project.
When I do it that way, after I have added them to the bin, they are searchable in the loops browser. It seems that converting them to Apple Loops using the standalone ALU does not necessarily make them searchable by Logic's internal loop browser. But, if you add them to project's bin manually or create them in the arrange window (which also adds them to the bin) then they become searchable.
I'm not sure why, it just has worked for me. It's still really inconvenient for converting large loop libraries for searching and sequencing in Logic though. No improvement on that from L8 to L9 either.

  • Importing loops Won't index or add to browser

so im trying to add some new jampacks .caf to garage band. when i drag loops into loop browser it says reindexing then nothing happens. doesn't add loops.
    need help thanks

yes. but what i did i took all the folders out of apple loops folder onto desktop, then when idrug onto loop browser, it added and moved them. is it because they where already in the apple loops folder that i couldn't add them?
    thanks

  • HT201368 Apple Loops will not Index

I have been using logic flawlessly for years. I opened a new track and when I tried to look for my loops. They were gone. It says they "Can't find loops" Then asks me to index my loop library. I did so, but they are still not showing up. I am running 10.9.1 and Logic 9

I wrote a thread about this a while ago, but I'm not sure it will help you, as it's similar to what you're doing. Thought I'd give you the link anyway, in case there's something there that helps. There are several responses, and perhaps one of them will give you the info that you need. Good Luck!

Path does not exist: /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index  st: /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index w/out this directory you cannot use the Loop Browser.  Then I get this message...
    Instrument Library Invalid
GarageBand Ecpects a valid instrument foledr in /Libraty/Application Support/GarageBand
Please choose a valid instrument Library folder or quit and re-install GB
    Any solutions?

Is this a new installation of GarageBand or has it worked before on the same computer?
Or have you transferrred your GarageBand from a different computer?
The error message is saying, that your GarageBand installation is incomplete. There are essential foldrs missing in your system library.
Check, if indeed both folders are missing or if only the permissions are set incorrectly.
Your system library (the folder "System" directly on your system drive) should have the following folders inside the folder "Audio", and they need to be readable by the system and by administrators.
And in the folder /Library/Application Support there should be the Instrument Library.
If these folders do not exist (or no longer exist), restore them from your backup-  If your GarageBand version is a new installation, the application may not hve been downloaded or installed completely, then reinstall GarageBand.
What is your GarageBAnd version, and how did you install it originally?

  • Trying to re-index apple loops. can't...

Ok, i've read the manual, done forum searches and ˆˆcan't seem to get the factory apple loops to show up in the browser.
i've tried drag the folder into the browser, and also tried highlighted and dragging the files themselves, but a dialog box flashes for a second and no loops get indexed there.
I've also tried dragging them into the soundtrack loop utility, where they then show up in the list. when i then opened logic, the loops were in the browser, but upon trying to play them, i was told that " the files couldn't be located, do i want to re-index the loops" i clicked yes. and they all disappeared. tried dragging them to the loop utility again. next time i opened the loop browser in logic. they weren't there still.
    can anyone help me out?
    thanks,
    rob

jord, i did also try moving individual files, and they just won't add to the index. the window saying it's indexing pops open for a split second and disappears. nothing gets indexed. it must be a problem with not having an index file in the apple loops index folder. i must have accidentally trashed it, but i would have imagined it would recreate one. someone even suggested trashing it.
I also tried re-installing garage band, and i checked the files, and they are read and write. I've also updated to 7.1.1. And these are the original apple loops which i can't get indexed. Strange.
I wonder, if someone emailed me an index file, maybe i could re-index then.
    any ideas, offers?

  • Re index Apple Loops

I moved my Apple Loops to an external hard drive because I was running out of space but when I went to open an Apple Loop it could not find it.
I tried continue but that couldnt find it so tried re index loops and now the loop browser has only a few loops I put in and most of the catagories are not highlighted for me to pick.
    any help welcome.
    1) can I have loops on a seperate drive?
    2) how do I get the loop Browser back to normal?
    thanks,

  • Missing / No "Apple Loops Index" Folder of TXT Files

I've been having a weird issue for a while now, even after doing a clean install of Yosemite again. It seems I've never had an Apple Loops Index folder in my Macbook's Library, and even when I make one from scratch in the proper location and run a loops re-index from both LPX and GarageBand, no .txt index files are made. I've never seen the folder or files before. The reason why I'm asking about this is because I've had some issues with missing Apple Loops folders that I definitely have in my HD library, but they won't show up. Many support forums advised trashing the Apple Loops Index text files and re-indexing, but I have no way of finding this folder. Has anyone experienced this or read any similar issue reports?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Loops reside in a few files.
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops
~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops (if you installed any thiord party guys)
    The index files are here:
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index
    ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index
To move the loops to an external drive:
    1. Move all of the loops from the Apple Loops folders above and move them to the external drive.
    2. Delete all of the Index files.
    3. Use the Loop Browser to reindex the loops from the new drive.
Be sure to drag the loops as individual folders (in other words if you store them in a folder called loops and then have groups of loops under that) if you don't, you will have one large group instead of several smaller ones. It makes it easier to find what you want.

  • Re indexing issues in Apple Loop Browser (LP 9.0.2 / OSX 10.6.1 / Digi 002r

I'm trying to re index my loop browser in LP9 / OSX10.6.1
Are you having the same problem?
After trashing the 'Apple Loop Index', I pull in a folder from an external drive and notice that previous folders added to my browser have gone, including Jam Packs.
Also, I can't find the 're-index' option within the loop browser search option (right click brings down a list but the re-index option isn't there)
Interested to see whet you find.

Yep, I also had issues, where indexing the LP8 way (dragging folders with loops from the Finder onto the Logic loop browser) just bluffed to work (I dropped the folder on the LB, a progress window appeared, things apparently got done, but then nothing, no new entries in the Loop Browser.
So it seems that it is a L9 problem, since our Macs' are different in every aspect (Me: PPC- you: Intel, me: Leopard- you: Snow Leopard).
I finally decided to put all my loops in their default install locations and reindex them from there:
    *Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple:*
Jam Pack 4 - Symphony Orchestra
    Jam Pack Voices
    Jam Pack World Music
    *Library/Audio/Apple Loops/iLife Sound Effects:*
    (13 folders)
    *Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops:*
(some folders with my own and 3rd party Loops)
    *Library/Application Support/Garageband/Apple Loops:*
    Apple Loops for Garageband
    Jam Pack 3- Rythm Section
for thorough reindexing, here are the steps:
    1. Quit Logic and/or any other app that uses Apple Loops.
    2. Go to all the locations I pointed out and trash all the index files from the *Apple Loops Index* folders. Also check the same locations in your Users/'you'/Library folder.
    3. Start Logic with a new empty project, open the loop browser window by hitting the o key. Now drag the folders mentioned above in bold onto your loop browser. Logic should now index them correctly, including the foldermenu !http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2743/4085966954bf4fc039d7o.png! in the loop browser.

  • Homemade Apple Loops (w/Loops Utility) won't show up in Loop Browser

I just finished making a whole batch of homemade Apple Loops. Through Logic I opened up each audio file in the Apple Loops Utility, marked its tempo, marked "Looped" and then did the transients window to make sure it sounded good, then did "Save" or "Save All" from the Apple Loops Utility task tray.
I then dumped that folder full of custom loops into my loop browser for catalog'ing, but for some reason only about 10 of them show up when I click "All" to see all the loops in that folder.
So I re-opened the entire batch in Apple Loops Utility and made tiny changes to each loop's transients, just enough to trigger the dot next to the loop that means "you need to save these changes" - and I resaved the entire batch.
Tried the add-to-loop-browser process again, and again, only those initial 10 loops showed up in the browser again. The remaining 190 won't pop up.
I can't figure out what's missing or what I did wrong.  Any ideas?
    Kirby

    FIXED!
If you run into this same problem:
In order for your homemade loops to show up in Logic's Loop Browser, when in the Apple Loops Utility you need to select at least one "Descriptor" - if you don't, the loop won't appear in the browser.  Even if you don't need a Descriptor, just batch-select all of your loops in the tray and then pick 1 Descriptor, resave, and re-drop into Apple's Loop Browser.

  • Logic 9 Pro won't load apple loops library or EXS24 Instruments!

    First off, specs:
    I'm running 9.1.8 on OSX 10.8.2
I recently purchased a brand new 13" MacBook Pro (early this december) and used migration assistant to transfer my accounts, apps, and such from my old hard drive to my new one. Everything seems to be in its place and running fine, except for Logic 9 Pro.
Whenever I load up a session featuring the EXS24 sampler, the loading bar will hang up upon loading the instrument, eventually turn into the spinning wheel of death, and become unresponsive. This also happens when I create a new session, open up a new instance of EXS24, and attempt to load a patch. All of the other stock Apple instruments load up just fine.
I also noticed that Logic can't locate my Apple Loops Library, as every option in the loop browser is grayed out. I went into my library folder and found the EXS patches as well as the Apple loops, so I know they're there!
Unfortunately, I don't have a Logic 9 CD (It came preinstalled on my previous computer), so to my knowledge reinstallation isn't an option, unless there's a way to reinstall Logic 9 without a CD and without losing my license. I've already tried the following to resolve this issue:
    - Reindexing spotlight
    - Reindexing loop browser
    - Disabling spotlight on the volume where the Logic files reside
    - Deleting the Logic 9 preference file
If anyone has any insight or a way to reinstall Logic 9 Pro without a CD and without losing my license, it'd be greatly appreciated!

    Hi
You probably need to re-index the Loop Library.
In Logic 9 control click on the Loop Library and choose "Reindex"
In Logic X use the Loops Menu at the top and again, choose "ReIndex".
If that does not do it, you may need to manually remove the Index files

  • Loop Browser - Removing files/folders not indexed in the Apple Loops Index

    Hi...
I experimented with dragging in a SFX folder to the Logic Pro Loop Browser window. It asked me if I wanted to copy files to the Apple Loops folder or reference the original files, and I selected reference the originasl files.
The SFX files were then listed under the OTHER area of the View menu.
Question... HOW do I remove these SFX files/folder from the OTHER view menu?
I have tried deleting all of the Apple Loop Index files and that did not work.
I have tried deleting the actual SFX files/folders, and after they disappear, but when I restore the SFX files/folders to their source location they reappear in the logic browser view menu.
Is there some where else Logic stores Loop Browser reference data which can be deleted to remove these OTHER files/folders from the Loop Browser view menu?
    Thanks

    Success...
    OK I found the solution.
    1) I deleted the SFX audio files from the referenced HDD source location.
    2) I opened Logic and re-index the Loop Browser.
    3) I quit Logic and copied the SFX files back to the HDD.
When I opened Logic this time, the SFX files/folders referenced under the OTHER menu were gone.
Because I have a huge production music & SFX library, the best way to audition these sources for use in a Logic project, is to audition in iTunes and then just drag whatever I need right from within itunes into the Logic project.
That keeps my Logic loop browser more manageable and focused on composing.

  • System can't find apple loops (accidentally pressed Re-index button)

Hi, I installed some new loops lately but because the installation was not successful, when i tried to listen to one of the loops (which was not properly installed) an option came up asking me if i wanted to re-index my loops. I accidentally pressed it, but when system prompted me for my password to continue, i clicked cancelled.
Now, when i next startup Logic Express a window pops up saying There are No Apple Loops installed on your system, please re-install the apple loop package.
    What should I do now?
Please help. I am feeling so exasperated

    Hi Rob
Thanks so much for your prompt response. This is really bizarre.. now when i open Logic Express, I see some loops in there and the msg that appeared earlier (that no loops are found) no longer shows.
I havent done anything since my last post so i do not know why the situation changed on my lapto.
However I do notice some loops are missing.. when i look into HardDisk -> Library --> Apple --> Apple Loops, i noticed my Jam Pack Rhythm Folder is no longer there.. yet, when i play projects which utilize loops from Jam Pack Rhythm, they play ok, which makes me wonder if the folder has simply gone somewhere, or i have to reinstall them.
    Help
    Thanks so much!!
