Apple/Mac/OS X icon in dock

This is as weird as they come a question - I somehow poofed my apple os x icon away into computer heaven a while back and would like to get it back into the dock - that's that icon on the far right side of
the dock - I've looked everywhere for the icon but can't find it - any one help me?
thanks
Steve

Load http://www.apple.com/macosx/ in your browser and drag the little Apple logo next to the address bar to the right side of the Dock.
This works with any website.

  • Want to restore Apple - Mac OS X icon to Dock

I accidentally dragged the Apple - OS X icon off the dock, so it went poof and disappeared. In order to put it back, I assume I just drag something to the dock, but I don't know where to find that item. How do I put it back? This is the thing that looks like an @ on top of a spring, on the right side of the divider. Thanks!

    Hi Chris,
All you have to do is go to the website and then highlight the url in the address bar and drag it down to the dock and your link will reappear.
Not sure what page it linked to though - I assume this one:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/
If not, maybe somebody can correct me.

  • Where is my "Apple- Mac OS X" icon?

I was organizing my dock. Putting various documents into my Documents folder in my dock and somehow, I don't know how, I dragged my "Apple- Mac OS X" icon out of my dock. This icon is silver with a white "@" symbol. Could someone advise me on how to put it back onto my dock? Thanks!

    maddie,
Just drag the favicon (URL) from this link->http://www.apple.com/downloads/ back to the previous location on your Dock.
    ;~)

  • Apple - Mac OS X icon

I have this icon named Apple - Mac OS X on my dock. I was just curious about what is its purpose.
    Thanks

It's a link to the Apple Website. If you drag the icon next to the web address in a browser to the right side of the dock, it creates the same sort of shortcut.

  • Remove "apple -mac os x" url from dock

How do I do it? There has to be a way. I already have the shortcut in Safari I don't need it in the dock.

Dude! You surely am JAM'N! with that rapid answer!
But it won't go for some reason. I did it with a G4 tower that I fresh installed on a new drive the other day but for some reason I can't get it to go to the trash on this little iBook. I did choose to customize the install by declining to install all the languages and asian fonts, etc. if that makes a difference.

  • How to find and install icon in dock for access to Apple Mac OSX?

Just next to my downloads and document stacks I had an icon Apple Mac OS X icon that when clicked automatically transferred me to Snow Leopard site at Apple. By mistake I removed it from dock but now I can't find this icon to re-install it. I looked in applications folder but not there. Anyone know where I can find it to re-install it in dock?
    Thanks

Go to Apple Mac OS X with Safari and drag the icon next to "http" from the address to the right side of the dock.

  • Apple - Mac OS X Location ?

I trashed the "Apple - Mac OS X" icon that was next to the Trashcan in the Dock.
Now I want it back so that I can get the Leopard Sneak Peek.
Where is it located so that I can get it back in the Dock ?

That icon is a weblink. The one in the Dock just links to Apple's main page.
You can add any web site to the Dock by dragging the icon next to the address from your web browser to the Dock.

  • Apple Mac OS X - Menu bar icon integration

    Hi all,
I am trying to figure out if Adobe AIR is a good solution for me since I am creating an app which should be compatible with multple platforms and in order to save development time, AIR could be handy.
One of the requirements is that the Mac OS X version doesn't show the application in the dock BUT only in the menu bar (next to spotlight, clock, etc.).
My question: is this possible? I googled but couldn't find much info about this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I think that is not possible.
In theory one could modify info.plist in generated .app bundle on OS X and add LSUIElement key:
    http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/general/Reference/InfoPlistKeyRefere nce/Articles/LaunchServicesKeys.html
(that part works on 10.6.7 with 2.6 AIR SDK with application menu in place) to remove application icon from Dock.
But the missing part is that AIR does not offer wrapper(s) to NSStatusItem (and NSStatusBar):
    http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/StatusBar/Tasks/cre atingitems.html%23//apple_ref/doc/uid/20000996-BBCDAGHB
so there is no additional interactivity layer required for such feature. So if you look into "background" like applications with AIR it probably won't work (application without visible "icon" somewhere is somehow contrary to Apple HIG and users expectations I think)
Adobe's doc clearly states it supports only application type of menu:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/display/NativeMen u.html

    Peter

  • I am having trouble getting my My Mac Book Pro 15" Retina to wake up with an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse while Docked in a Hengedock vertical docking station.

I am having trouble getting my My Mac Book Pro 15" Retina to wake up with an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse while Docked in a Hengedock vertical docking station. The Keyboard and mouse work great with the laptop lid open but when closed in the docking station the bluetooth signal does not seem to transmit.  Is there a setting that can be changed to allow an Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to wake the computer while docked?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

If you have a external USB enclosure - trying installing your hard drive in that enclosure and connect it to your usb port - restart your macbook while holding down the options key.  If you Macbook boots to your desktop then you have a faulty cable.  If you get the same error, then your hard drive just died on you.
    good luck.

It's strange. The problem apparently resolved itself after I ran TechTool on it. When I clicked on Firefox last night, I had no problem opening a window. Thanks for your help. (As to your previous post, the focus was on Firefox and neither the speed keys nor the menu bar would open a window or tab of allow me to enter a URL to open a window. Strange!)

How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • The Install Mac OS X icon disappears on the bottom of the dock every time I click to install.  Why is this happening?

I put the disc in, and the box pops up with the "Install Mac OS X" icon.  I click on it and I see it pop up on the dock but then immediately disappear.  Nothing else happens, no matter how many times I double click on the install icon.  I currently have a Mac OS X 10.5.8 and am trying to install this Snow Leopard 10.6.3.
    thank you!

Make sure your Mac meets v10.6 Snow Leopard's requirements >  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
If your Mac can upgrade to v10.6, make sure there's enough free space available for the installation.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop then click Get Info.
From the Get Info panel, make sure there's at least 15% available disk space.
And you may need to repair the startup disk before installing Snow Leopard.
