Apple mac slow ipad fast on safari why?

Safari question: Why, when my desk top mac runs slow or halts using Safari, does my ipad not?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot insafe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Iweb fast on mac slow on windozzzeee...why?

i have been looking after the upkeep of a rugby club in my local village. About 6 months ago, i scrapped the hosting company i was with and swapped to iweb. However, everyone is really happy with the site, but recently have had one or two concerns that the pages are quite slow to show up on a pc...The pages on a mac show up very quickly, ive resized every image as low as i can really. The main problem with a pc is that the links on top of the page dont show up for a good few seconds after the page has loaded...Does anyone know whats happening here? heres the site
    http://www.nelsonrfc.co.uk

It's probably not Windows, just specifically IE, MAINLY because IE is a poor browser. Using firefox will yield an appreciably higher quality experience BUT you can't control what people use to see your site.
Those are being rendered as .PNG graphics and the way IE has to render the page, it has to load ALL the images and then go back and "fix" the .PNG's so that they render as transparent. You could try removing those links and manually create buttons (maybe with a gradient) that wold link to your pages, but you won't have the "rollover" effect.

  • Slow browsing - not just Safari -WHY?

I have been experiencing slow loading of pages in both Safari and Chrome - sometimes one is slow and the other OK, sometimes both are slow. When I say slow, I mean my home page takes 30 seconds to load and subsequent pages can be anywhere from 2 seconds to a minute or even hang up and won't load. In Safari I often get the "Localized string not found"... in Chrome I just get slowness with no error messages. So I guess you would probably say my Internet connection is to blame.
HERE'S THE WEIRD PART. I only have this problem on my iMac (purchased a month ago), not on my MacBook (purchased earlier this year). They are both running the same OS, the same apps, and are on the same network. Yet the desktop machine is slow and the laptop is fast. Apple phone support tried to explain to me that because the iMac can connect either through wifi or ethernet it is slower than the macbook which connects through wifi only. This seems *completely counterintuitive* to me. Anyway, their solution was to recommend buying a gigabit router--meaning Airport Extreme I guess--but if my current Netgear router can serve up fast Internet to my macbook why can't it do so to my iMac??

    Ok...
David... system updates such as Snow Leopard's v10.6.3 to v10.6.4 / and software updates from say Safari 4.0.5 to 5... those updates do not necessarily include fixes that will increase the speed at which Safari loads pages.
Before updating your software, always read the detail first.
About the v10.6.4 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4150
When it comes to Safari, if you had any Safari third party plugins installed prior to the Safari 5 update, they may not be compatible with Safari 5. Go here for help with that.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons and click Reset.
Your Safari preferences could be corrupted.
Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.
And always repair disk permissions after all software updates are installed. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Apple mac slowing down

OS X version 10.8.2 is becoming slow
specialy too booth , too shut down and to open iphotos
any suugestions how to make it fast ?

This probably has more to do with hardware (processor, RAM, SATA v. SSD) than software (OSX).
To make the most dramatic difference in speed, you might consider replacing your hard-drive with a solid state drive (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/internal_storage/Mercury_Extreme_SSD_Sandforce/So lid_State_Pro). This costs between $75-$400 (depending on storage capacity)
To make a moderate difference in speed, you might consider replacing your RAM chips with larger capacity chips  (http://www.crucial.com/mac/). This costs between $25 and $75 (depending upon your computer and on storage capacity).
    Other things to think about:
    (1) Is your hard-drive almost full. This can cause CPU to slow down?
    (2) How old is your machine. After a couple years, SATA hard-drives (the ones with the spinning disk) begin to slow down (e.g. a 5400rpm drive might max out at only 3500rpm or 4000rpm after while).
Finally, a visit to the Apple Store never hurts. You can always make a reservation at www.apple.com/retail. A Genius will be happy to run diagnostics on your machine and give you some suggestions for improving your Macs performance.
    Best!

If possible, connect to your router with Ethernet and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

golden grape - Welcome to the discussions!
DNS problems are very irritating - and some of the hardest to figure out.
Let's start gathering some information to see how things are set up. Open the Network Utility and go to the "Lookup" tab. Pick one or two addresses and look them up. How long does the server report it took to do the lookup (query time). How long did you wait from clicking go?
P.S. sometimes the best thing is to ignore these things for an hour or so - it's often a temporary thing while your DNS server works out the addresses you need. Also - mac OS will cache the addresses - so once you have them - you don't need to wait anymore on DNS to find things. Try to leave your mac on as long as possible - unless you have some bad software or corruption on a disk - the longer it runs, the faster things will get.

7ms! Your DNS server is a lot faster than mine.
I can confidently say that you don't have DNS problems. If you had DNS problems - firefox and Network Utility should be equally slow. This really has nothing to do with mini hardware either.
It would be best to ask a new question titled "Safari slow - FireFox fast" in the Safari group. I'm sure a lot of people there will have good ideas to find out what causes safari to go slow when firefox can browse the same site with speed.
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=169
One things I can suggest is:
    * Temporarily change your Safari preferences to open the bookmarks or a blank page. You will know if safari is waiting on something locally or the web page is drawing slowly. I doubt this is it - but you never know until you try to narrow down what exactly is slow.

I am using school's network now.
Does the same thing happen if you connect to the internet through 'normal' means, such as a home internet connection (broadband, dialup etc), or does it just happen at school?

  • My fast speed internet is so slow. I have Safari 5.0.6. Is this an old version or not compatible. Please help.

Please help me. I'm not the most computer literate person and I just advanced my internet service with Bright House Networks to 90 and they said my computer is faster than theirs but they are not here to see it is worse than dial up. They said it's not their network rather my operating system. I have an Apple Mac Mini with Safari version 5.0
    6.  Is there a faster Safari, does anyone have any advice for me? I would really appreciate any feedback on my issue.
    Thank you in advance.

If you have Safari 5.0.6 that's the latest version for 10.5.8 Leopard.
Can you test in a new or Guest user account on your computer ?. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2542 - it's easy to do.

Do you mean that you did a soft-reset ?
Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
If that doesn't fix it then try closing Safari via the iPad's multitaskingbar and see if it works when you re-open it :double-click the home button to open the taskbar and then swipe or drag the Safari app's 'screen' up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
After trying the above you could also do a soft-reset (even if this is what you've already done it might be worth trying after clearing Safari's cache and closing the app via the taskbar) : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I am looking for an easy way to have my Itunes library on an external drive and be able to access it from a Mac (able to sync an iphone), an Apple TV, and Ipads.   I don't want to leave me computer on so I think I am looking for an NAS drive.
Would I need a NAS drive with "itunes server"?

    Hey jimyam,
Thanks for the question. If you wish to access your music library from multiple devices, anywhere, It sounds like iTunes Match may be the right service for you:
    Apple - iTunes - Match
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/
With iTunes Match, all your music can be stored in iCloud — even songs you’ve imported from CDs. You can access your music from all your devices and listen to your entire library wherever you are. And you'll also be able to listen to iTunes Radio without ads.
