  • Help needed to troubleshoot why my MacBook Pro repeatedly drops wifi connection

We run Mac & PC laptops, iPhone, iPad on occasion, with ATT DSL, 2Wire 2701HG-B Router. First 6 months of enjoying my Mac, no trouble. Then things started to go south. Been dealing with this problem of dropped internet connection for over a year. Got a new router--the 2Wire 2701, finally got a new phone line put in from the outside to inside. It now seems like the MacBook Pro drops the signal far more than the PC. It seems worse when I'm at my desk, which is only a room away from the router. It can drop the signal about every 3rd or 4th click on the internet. The Networks Diagnostics will show red buttons on the Server and Internet. Been testing other areas of the house, and find it seems better in these other areas, dropping far less. Hard to tell, because the problem comes and goes, like the sun. iPhone has dropped connection on occasion. iPad has occasional slow download of YouTube. Neither of those are troubling.
I tried checking with the Airport Utility, but it tells me it can't find any Airport. I obviously understand very, very little of this. Any help would be appreciated.

  • MacBook Pro randomly drops Ethernet connection.

I use my new MacBook Pro both connected wirelessly and via Ethernet to my home network. My network is connected to ADSL via a firewall/gateway router. I have a Powerbook G4 and a WinXP machine running on this same network (wirelessly and wired) without any issues.
For some reason my new MacBook Pro, however, will randomly drop off the network and will often require a reboot to reacquire a DHCP address. At first, I noticed this when transferring large amounts of data to the laptop across the network (retiring my XP machine). I thought I may have a bad cable or bad port on my hub so I switched both. After a couple more transfers, however, the problem seems to have returned.
Mid transfer, the MBP will lose connectivity to the DHCP server and assign itself a 169 address. I am unable to reacquire a 192 address from DHCP and have to restart the MBP to get back on the network.
Needless to say, this is very annoying and not at all what I expected with my new MBP.
Any thoughts appreciated as I am at whits end on this one.

I am having a similar issue. I have not yet tested with standard Ethernet, only Wireless using WPA2.
I have 3 Macs (iBook G4, PowerMac G5, and MBP (Core 2 Duo) all connecting a private wireless network consisting of a Airport Extreme and an Airport Express using WDS. All computers and basestations are running the latest versions of their respective software (10.4.8, V5.7, V6.3)
ONLY the MBP has the following problems: dropping the connection, failing to reconnect after sleep, and failing to obtain an IP address via DHCP after connecting.
The signal power reported by both the menu-bar widget and the Internet Connect application varries continually on the MBP, even though it is sitting 2 feet from the Airport Extreme basestation. Sometimes full strength, sometimes only two bars.
I have removed all preferred networks from the Network system preferences and re-added only my network. I have also removed the passwords for the routers from my keychain.
The MBP will often-times simply drop it's connection. When it does that, it will not automatically reconnect to my network. If I put the MBP to sleep it often-times will not reconnect when it awakes either. Sometimes it does, but I cannot decern a pattern. If it does automatically reconnect it will usually not obtain an IP address from the basestation.
Simply toggeling the MBP's Airport off and then on will almost always get it to find my network and automatically connect. Even if it does connect to the network, it doesn't always obtain an IP address via DHCP. Again, if I simply toggel the MBP's Airport off and on then it will usually connect and obtain an real IP address.
All of these things happen within two feet of the basestation, as well as more than 20 feet away. Both other Macs continue working just fine even while the MBP is having problems.
This is not an issue with the basestations or my configuration. It must be a problem with the drivers for the Airport card in the MBP.

  • 2011 17" Macbook Pro constantly drops Wifi connection on Windows 7 but not OSX. What's going on???

On OSX, the Wifi works perfectly. I rarely if ever get disconnected from the internet. However, when I switch over to Windows 7, the internet drops constantly (every 30 seconds or so).
I recently updated my OSX to the newest one (I think Yosemite) that released in December, which wiped out my Windows 7 operating system. Thus, I reinstalled windows 7 on my computer and everything works just like it used to except for the internet dropping 24/7. The weird thing about it is that whenever I "diagnose" the internet connection when it drops, the internet seems to come back to life again (for the short 30 seconds that it's up). I'm not sure why it's doing this. The internet didn't drop constantly on my previous Windows 7 until I reinstalled it.
The internet works fine with a different internet connection on Windows 7, which makes me think that the problem has to do with my internet or router... Has anyone had this problem? Restarting the router didn't do anything.

Do yu have any other Macs running Yosemite on your WiFi Network?

  • Macbook Pro 10.5.8 dropping wireless connection

Two days ago my late 2008 Macbook Pro started dropping it's wireless internet connection. AirPort, AirPort Settings, Network Settings, and ISP are all green lit, Internet and Server are Red. If I run diagnostics, I can get it to connect for about 30 seconds berfore it disconnects. Sometimes I can just turn off AirPort and then turn it back on and it will connect, but sometimes I have to set up a new location. The menu bar shows full signal the entire time. It works if I connect with an ethernet cable. No other device in the house (2 PCs, a 2 year old Macbook Pro, and several iPhones) is having this problem. Both the laptop and router (airport express that I've used for more than a year without a problem) software were up-to-date prior to this issue.  I'm not that computer savvy when it comes to things of this nature. I have no idea what's causing this problem, but it's driving me insane.

Yes it does for a while though at a low level  then it shows the ! no connection.  It restores to normal after a while and works normally for a varying length of time.

    Hi there terri900!
You may want to try configuring your router settings to match the recommended settings for iOS and OS X devices, which can be found here:

  • 2012 MacBook Pro Intel i7 (purchased May 2013) constantly drops airport connection. My 2006 MacBook Pro has no problems connecting and staying connected.

I received a 2012 MacBook Pro INtel i7 for my birthday this May 2013. It constantly drops my airport connection. My ancient 2006 MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to airport, nor staying connected. I've had to write this message several times as I keep losing the airport connection and have to reconnect. BTW: I am less than five feet from the airport base.
    Thanks for help.

After trying all of the above the suggestions, the problem returned as before. However, after digging some more I discovered that the issue appears to lie with the 10.4.10 version of the Mac OS; when I checked the software log under the system profiler I noticed that I had installed that update at about the time my Airport problems began. Apple then quietly released a v 1.1 combo update to 10.4.10 on July 2nd, which once installed appears to have resolved the problem. You can find the download at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdatev11intel.html
What's curious is that originally Apple listed that the v 1.1 combo update resolved some issues with RAW image data, and some sound problems, which don't seem to have anything to do with Airport.

How do i go about connecting my Apple MacBook Pro 13'3 to the interent with an "Huawei Mobile Broadband E367 HSPA+ USB ROTATOR" on the MTN Network

If your USB port is working now, you didn't damage it and have nothing to worry about.
The behavior you saw in your bus-powered Fujitsu drive is normal for a drive that needs more power than the USB port can provide.
If your USB ports ever do shut down, resetting the SMC may bring them back online again quickly and easily.

  • My Macbook Pro doesnt seem to connect to my Belkin wireless router. It is connected but the internet would not work. any suggestions?

hey guys. I am having trouble with my internet. My MacBook Pro seems to be connected with Belkin wireless router, but the internet would not work. We recently changed the router so its pretty new, and it used to work on my HP laptop. Although there were some problems, it still worked. But now, the internet works and stops suddenly, and then works again.
I would love to hear some suggestions to get rid of this.
    Thanks

Frequently (3 times/hour or so) my MacBook Pro will drop it's Wi-Fi connection. None of my other devices (iPhone) lose the connection - only the Macbook Pro. I'm running OS X 10.10.1 on my 15-in Macbook Pro (2012 version).
It will not come back by itself.
My SSID is still in the drop down list.
If I turn off wi-fi and turn it right back on, it reconnects immediately.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
    Jim

You have already narrowed down the issue to your MacBook Pro and/or Yosemite (10.10.1).
So, a post in the Yosemite support forum or the MacBook Pro forum would be the places to start.  Links are just below:
Since this is common issue with Yosemite, you might want to go there first.
