Apple Macbook Pro Power Adaptor

I was using my Mac this morning and when I plugged in my power adaptor to charge my Mac. I heard a spark from the outlet and I took out my Power Adapter. Then I realized that the Power Adaptor seemed to be warmed up at the front. Then I went to the other room and plugged in the Power Adapter to a different outlet and I guess the Power Adaptor's wire inside or something like that got messed up and it was no more charging my Mac.I bought my Mac last Summer. To be exact, about 10 months ago. But I bought it from Texas from Frys' Electronics. I live in Toronto, ON, Canada. So I don't know if I make an Appointment in the apple store, they're gonna be able to help me out getting a new one. I just wanna make sure before making an appointment...

does a Usb cable to60 Watt L-Tip Power Adapter charger for Apple MacBook Pro Laptop Charger exist? i have an external battery pack i would like to use to charge my iphone and macbook pro.

Not that I am aware of.  An Internet search on your part will be required.  If you should find something to that effect, note it will not be endorsed by Apple and the magnetic connector will probably be in violation of Apple patents.

  • I shall be visiting Albania in October.  I want to take my Apple Macbook Pro with me but am advised to use a Line/Power Conditioner due to fluctuating electricity.  What is your view and what do you recommend?  Many thanks in advance.

I have an Apple Macbook Pro 13" and will be visiting Albania with it in October.  Due to fluctuating electricity, I'm advised to take a line/power conditioner with me.  Which products do you recommend? Many thanks in advance.

Many thanks for your speedy response.  First of all, I must point out that I'm a Brit and a technophobe.  This may explain my possibly foolish questions and answers.  I don't need a voltage converter but do need some kind of surge protector.  I've lived in India so have experienced first hand the devastating impact of fluctuating electricity. I said I needed a line conditioner because according to the recommended guide book: "The electricity supply in Albania is theoretically 220 volts AC.  In practice it is often very much lower.  Laptop batteries are usually resilient enough to cope with power spikes, but if you are travelling with sensitive equipment which could be damaged by voltage surges or brownouts, you should obtain a line conditioner......."  I checked on google and two recommended ones were APC Surgearrest 3020J and Tripp-Lite SK 12OUSB. I don't remember seeing Targus, Belkin or Kensington mentioned. What I'm really looking for is a good efficient one which is small enough to carry with me on any trip to a country with a dicy electricity supply.  The price is less important.  As you rightly said, it's important not to cut corners with electricity.  My main concern is protecting my UK bought Mac.  I'd be really grateful for your advice. I don't have a clue what to buy.  Thanks again.

  • Is this power supply (A1185 10.8 V, 55Wh) compatible with  New White 60W 16.5V 3.65A Laptop AC Adapter Supply Magsafe Power Charger For Apple Macbook pro A1184 A1185

All of the A1181 polycarbonate MacBooks use the A1184 60W MagSafe power supply/charger and the A1185 battery. These are the Apple part numbers. Other manufacturers make equivalent replacement products, but the quality may not be acceptable.

  • How to connect an MTN usb rotator to an Apple MacBook Pro 13'3

How do i go about connecting my Apple MacBook Pro 13'3 to the interent with an "Huawei Mobile Broadband E367 HSPA+ USB ROTATOR" on the MTN Network

If your USB port is working now, you didn't damage it and have nothing to worry about.
The behavior you saw in your bus-powered Fujitsu drive is normal for a drive that needs more power than the USB port can provide.
If your USB ports ever do shut down, resetting the SMC may bring them back online again quickly and easily.

You'll certainly need a new logic board.
If I were you, I would take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them evaluate the problems and give you an estimate for repair. If you're out of warranty, be prepared to pay a very high price to get your computer repaired.
    Good luck,

My apple macbook pro retina 15'' ME664 has problems with sound.Either there will be no sound at all or at startup there il be very scary and broken sound and afterwards still there would be no sound.Secondly , it does not start in one shot.atleast 2 to 3 times pressing power button for longer time starts it up and afterwards still there will be no sound. Please help

This morning i was not able to hear sound on my recently purchased  macbookpro retina 15 inch model. My attempts to resolve this issue by going to system preferences and removing the mute box that was ticked as active. i had downloaded much earlier a mac version of logmein app and noticed that in the sound  box noted above that there was a bar indicating that the default was now to logmein. i had never used this app. Why it started today, i have no idea. I moved the logmein application to trash and deleted the app , however it did not remove the default option which still blocked the sound.
Going to a macforum gave the tha anser that to remove the logmein app, it first had to be reinstalled a nd them use the uninstaller option ftrom the dropdown menu. for now that has resolved the failure to allow sound oputput.

  • Macbook Pro power supply and grounding.

Hey Apple people. I noticed something disconcerting with the power supply on my MacBook Pro 13" (non-retina)
I have a stainless steel metal table in my kitchen. It is the same type of stainless steel table you find in restaurants.
I have my 13" MacBook Pro in a Speck See-thru case.
The MacBook Pro in it's case is sitting on a Rain Design "M Stand".
The Rain Design "M Stand" is sitting on the stainless steel table.
I am wearing a short sleeve shirt.
I am sitting on a fabric covered chair at the table.
The battery was getting low so I got out my power supply, which is the power brick with the two prong plug adapter.
I plugged this into a power strip and the other end into the computer.
While touching the case of the computer with one hand and leaning on the stainless steel table with my other bare arm. I felt a vibration through the fingers that were in contact with the MacBook Pro. I knew what was going on, and I got really concerned.
    I tried an experiment.
I got out the extension cord that came with the MacBook Pro power supply and I changed out the two prong plug on the power supply for the extension cord. The extension cord has a grounding post.
When I plugged the power supply back into the power strip and connected the power supply to the MacBook Pro. I no longer felt a vibrating sensation when I was in contact with the stainless steel table and the computer.
I have other MacBook Pro power supplies and I always use the grounded extension cable with them, because it is located at my regular workstation area. This stainless steel table is located in my kitchen, and I was eating dinner and watching YouTube videos.
Just thought you would like to all know that when you don't use the grounded cable on your MacBook Pro. you become the ground.
Never using this power supply anywhere again without the grounded cable.
    Thank you for your time.
    Matthew Sievert

It depends on what you are doing.  Yes, the power supply can get hot.  This is normal.

I personally would not purchase either charger.  I have seen many posts on this forum complaining about 'inexpensive' chargers and batteries for Apple MBPs.  To purchase these 'knockoff' counterfeits is tantamount to throwing your money away.  They may be 'refurbished' by a third party (something Apple does not do with chargers) but that would indicate that they failed before.  Or they may be cheap imitations built to questionable standards.
You have spent a lot of money on your MBP, do not let it suffer a malfunction just to save $50.  You may find that repairs might cost a lot more than that.  Buy a real one from Apple as Ralph suggests.
    Ciao.

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV?

I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV? I have a MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter, but there are two issues with it: The new display doesn't have a VGA port, and even if it did, I wouldn't want to have my mac constantly attached to the display by a cable. I was looking for a way to use the TV as a display without any wires. Is there some type of bluetooth setup I could use? Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

As I wrote above, I think you should look into the Apple TV yourself. The best place to find information about what it can and can't do and to ask your own specific questions is probably in the Apple TV forum, here:
