Apple Macbook Pro Touchpad Problem
Hi, everyone.
I bought my mac about 6 months ago, and I am really happy with it. It is fast, fun, and is incredibbly functional.
I have one issue though. I think the tochpad "click" function is not working the way it used to. I am not sure how to explain it, but when I click the left side of the tochpad it feels different than when I click the right side of it. It is as if the click on the left side is not going as deep. It just barely moves. It does function, however.
My question is whether anyone else encountered this issue. Is this something I should contact Apple about? I travel a lot to places where Apple customer service is not available, so I am a bit worried the button might stop functioning while I am outside the US.

This is not normal.
It is better to take the MBP to Genius Bar at Apple Store for hardware related issues.

macbook pro touchpad curser problems. typing randomly jumps to wherever the curser is resting at the time. unbelievably maddening. multiple devices same all have same problem. hard to believe we cannot find anything on the apple site about this. MANY complaints outside of this site on this issue... clearly a touchpad/battery design flaw being ignored by Cupertino. during the writing of this post, the curser jumped randomly and started typing in a different location six times. IMPOSSIBLE to use as a word processor since typing becomes quite frustrating. HELP. any ideas? Fanboy and shareholder. three macbook pros in the house...all the same problem. Go step by step and test.
1. Restart
2. Shut down the computer.
Clean the trackpad with moist not wet microfiber cloth.
System Preferences > Point & Click
Try turning off three finger dragging and then turning it on after testing.
3. Is there any Bluetooth device nearby with failing batteries? If so, replace the batteries.
4. Reset PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
5. Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
6. Close all windows and quit all applications.
Click the Spotlight -the magnifying glass icon- in the menu bar. Enter Disk utility in the box.
Select Disk Utility from the drop down. When the Disk utility window opens up,
select Macintosh HD, then First Aid.
Click Repair Disk Permissions button.
Ignore the time remaining estimate. -
Apple macbook pro with retina display is having yellow screen problems in which screen is not perfectly white and is yellowish. More over the service frm apple's part is ridiculous as they have faulty spare part. Does ne1 hv email of senior person?
Apple service centre employee told me that they do not have this 14 day offer in India.
And My mac book pro is taken in by Service centre people to run test etc and I will be informed the next day if they accept it as a fault or not ?

My apple macbook pro retina 15'' ME664 has problems with sound.Either there will be no sound at all or at startup there il be very scary and broken sound and afterwards still there would be no sound.Secondly , it does not start in one shot.atleast 2 to 3 times pressing power button for longer time starts it up and afterwards still there will be no sound. Please help
This morning i was not able to hear sound on my recently purchased macbookpro retina 15 inch model.My attempts to resolve this issue by going to system preferences and removing the mute box that was ticked as active. i had downloaded much earlier a mac version of logmein app and noticed that in the sound box noted above that there was a bar indicating that the default was now to logmein. i had never used this app. Why it started today, i have no idea. I moved the logmein application to trash and deleted the app , however it did not remove the default option which still blocked the sound.
Going to a macforum gave the tha anser that to remove the logmein app, it first had to be reinstalled a nd them use the uninstaller option ftrom the dropdown menu. for now that has resolved the failure to allow sound oputput. -
[SOLVED, mostly] Arch on Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch with Retina Display
I've been looking into the Apple MacBook Pro. Of course, I would want to get rid of Mac OS X and load up Arch. Please tell me if the following will work out-of-the-box or have workarounds:

I know the high DPI display shouldn't be a problem since GNOME Shell now supports those, but I want to be able to use all of the above things. Also, please let me know if there are any other problems to look out for. Thanks.
Last edited by JohnSmithLinux (2013-12-02 01:50:36)I can't comment on your specific model, but IMHO, getting a Mac (especially a Mac laptop) to run Linux exclusively doesn't make much sense, for the following reasons:
Apple's EFI implementation is weird, and some features (most notably the ability to upgrade the firmware) can be done only with the help of OS X. As a practical matter, this means that you'll either have to use exotic tools like the Linux version of "bless" or boot the computer in BIOS/CSM/legacy mode -- and even then, upgrading the firmware will be a hassle, should that become necessary. Booting in BIOS/CSM/legacy mode is the easier path, and there's nothing wrong with doing it that way, but as the industry is moving away from BIOS and toward EFI, it means that either you'll be going in the other direction or you'll need to struggle with a Linux-only EFI-mode installation on the Mac.
Hardware support in Linux for Macs is a bit weird, in part because of the preceding issue (the weird Apple firmware). I realize your question is aimed at uncovering specific answers about this topic, but as a general rule, Apple hardware seems more trouble-prone under Linux than standard PC hardware. Also, note that hardware support can vary depending on the mode you use (BIOS/CSM/legacy vs. EFI). Video hardware can be particularly troublesome on some models, with BIOS/CSM/legacy sometimes working better.
Mac mice (including laptop trackpads) are 1-button devices, but Linux works best with 3-button mice. A 2-button mouse can do in a pinch. Using a 1-button mouse with X requires applying unusual workarounds involving the use of keyboard keys while clicking the mouse button. Although this can be done, it's an extra hassle, both to set up and to use. On a desktop computer, of course, you can just replace the mouse, but this isn't always practical with a laptop.
I haven't checked pricing recently, but Apple hardware tends to carry a price premium compared to similar hardware from other manufacturers.
Although most of these issues (with the possible exception of price, if you're on a tight budget) aren't really critical by themselves, they combine to create a rather unpleasant combination, at least when considering a Mac exclusively as a platform for running Linux. If you wanted to dual-boot with OS X, things would be different, of course, but personally, I wouldn't buy a Mac as a Linux-only computer.
If you've got specific reasons for wanting a Mac, perhaps you could post them here. Although I personally haven't shopped for a laptop for a while and so can't offer specific suggestions, somebody else might be able to suggest alternatives that would do what you want. -
I have an Apple MacBook Pro 1,1 Mac OS X 10.6.8. I have tried to load Native Instruments Guitar Rig 4LE.
It would not load and said the following. System extension cannot be used.
The system extension "/system/library/Extensions/AppleUSBthernetHost.text" was installed improperly and cannot be used.
Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product vendor for an update.
I do not have a copy of the OS X 10.6.8 software. It is second hand so I have no product vendor to contact.
What can I do?You recently updated iTunes to v.11.4? This message has popped up on many a Mac screen when this version was first made available, because this kext was obviously faulty.
You should try to download iTunes 11.4 again from Apple's website: the new version bears the same name, but this kernel extension has been updated, and the issues it was causing are now a thing of the past.

sometimes my ignition pocme blow 2puta quickly and fit 1s and thus prove it does not poweroff, the display has no image.
or when booting the mistake occurs in the image:

When it poweroff so again uplalim all work properly and I do not have any more problems! After re-ignition occurs again, the same situation!
I have made a hardware test and reinstalira OS X Leopard 10.5.6 Update! but again the same story, says that everything ok!
There is no additional peripherals except that I ordered from the apple store to upgrade my 1G still working memory SDRMA 667MHz

Apple Macbook Pro Retina with display issue Samsung LED
Once I have plugged the HDMI cable from Macbook Pro to Samsung 24" LED Monitor, the display remains black. Doesn't seemed like the samsung monitor recognised the Apple Macbook Pro at all. I have reset the PRAM and troubleshoot it with Apple and meanwhile still waiting for answer from Apple. They have acknowledged of the problem but there is no solution. I erally need the second extended monitor for my design work. Bit ridiculus that the most powerful Apple system cannot even do the simplest thing. I am stuck now. Please help.

Having trouble transferring MP3 files from Windows 7 to Apple MacBook Pro
On my Windows 7 PC I have about 200GB of mp3 files sorted into different files to suit there genre, for example 80's Music, 90's Music etc. I am using a Western Digital hard drive to store this music on to then open on my Apple MacBook Pro when needed but when I try and open on my Apple MacBook Pro the folders will not open and seem to appear as a shortcut to something. Can anybody help me solve this problem? Thank you in advance
The first thing you need to think about is what files you want to transfer. Most people want to bring over information like:
Photographs
Music
Movies
and MS Office (Word, Excel & PPT) documents.
If that is what you're looking for then you simply locate those files on your Vista box and drag them to an external HD. If you need help doing that visit your local Apple Store and they will be able to help you out. Another option is you are covered by 90 days of free telephone support on AppleCare, look in your owners manual for the phone number and call. Someone there should be able to get you going. -
Hey guys. I'm going to buy a macboock pro for the first time and I have 1500/1600€ to spend. I will need to use programs such as illustrator, photoshop, after effects, premier or final cut pro and 3d programs like blender (3d modelling and animation). I don't know wich of this two macs to pick (the price is the same for both, at least here in Portugal), so help me here.

I would never consider a computer with an i5 processor and just 256 GB of storage!
And the Retina machines cannot be upgraded later, so better to order it at full specs...
So, as the package is now fixed (Retina, i7, 16 GB RAM, 1Tb SSD), the only choice now is between a 13" or 15" model.
If, as you said, space is not a problem, then go for the 15".... If you prefer the 13" screen, you will get the most powerful 13-inch machine available...
In both cases you wll get the maximum currently possible.... That is the only sensible choice when money is not a constraint... -

Should my macbook pro touchpad click on the top left and right sides? It only clicks at the bottom.
System Preference > Trackpad > Point & Click
If "Tap to Click" is enabled, click should register by tapping on any part of the Trackpad.

I found a second Hand Apple MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.5 15" A1260
and I am thinking about to buy it.
The owner has changed the motherboard and the superdrive,
he says that it was under warranty.

Is there any check you Would recommend to do to the Macbook before the purchase?

Install disks can be procured from Apple Customer support. Give them a call and have the serial number of your MBP ready. Technically you should purchase your own copy of Mt Lion since the license follows the original owner, not the MBP. You may incur difficulties in the future if you have to reinstall Mt. Lion.
I think that you best option is a genius bar appointment and have them check out the MBP.
