Apple Magic Trackpad problem

I just bought the apple magic trackpad but it gives me only left-click and pointer movement, nothing more.
Not even two-finger scrolling or right click.
Any ideas?
(I am using macbook pro 2010 and lion operating system).
Thank you.

I ahev also been having the same trouble. I phoned Apple support and they made a couple of suggestions including re-installing Lion. Nothing worked so I took it back today for a replacement which does not work either.
It appears that it connecting as a mouse (mouse logo pops up) rather than a Magic Trackpad. Having told the Apple 'Genius' in-store while I was getting the replacement, he told me he had not heard of anyone else having this problem and it must be my hardware. It works fine on an identical system running 10.6.8.
I dont have USB Overdrive installed on mine. I am using a 24" iMac from 2009, 2.93GHz and 4GB RAM. I cant see any idea why it would not work so any suggestions welcome.
Thanks,  Kev

  • Apple Magic Trackpad freeze after three finger touch

I installed the synaptics driver and the trackpad has the basic functionality like tap, scroll with two finger and second click with two-finger tap, however if a put three finger on it the trackpad freeze for like 10 seconds and then I'm able to continue using it. Now I don't even know where to start   looking for the problem... Someone know how to help me??

Hi! I have the same problem. Problem solved? Logs are clean. Works only on pressing touch, but only as a one-touch.

No, but you can use the Apple wireless keyboard.

Remove it from the Macbook first. BT devices may only be connected to one thing at a time.

  • Magic Trackpad Problems in Lion

Since loading Lion on to my 2011 MBP 13" I have a number of gesture issues on my Magic Trackpad. It seems to have a will of its own and refuses to follow the trackpad on my laptops 'lead', with particular reference to Safari, full screen apps and moving back and forwards. I've played with all the trackpad settings in system pref and still nowhere. Any thoughts chaps? Many thanks in advance.

Just wanted to add my experiences to the mix. I've had the magic trackpad (bluetooth) problems, too. Mostly, I've seen behavior where certain gestures do things they're not supposed to (and that are incredibly discruptive), like, when I single-click something, Mission Control launches. Grrrr. Anyhoo, in addition to the suggestions here, I have found that the bluetooth trackpad really likes fresh batteries. In fact, I've seen my trackpad problems go away entirely when I put in new batteries, and the battery level is back up to 100%. I've also seen the trackpad do fine when the battery level is down at 10%, but, when those problems start happening, fresh batteries have done the trick every time. It's as if a stronger bluetooth signal clears out the confusion. Oh, and, somewhat ironically perhaps, I have re-chargeable batteries that I bought from the Apple store online, and, those seem to cause the problem more often than traditional batteries, too.
Oh, and there's this KB article from Apple, too:

  • Magic trackpad problems 2014

Just today while I was working with Word for Mac 2011, my magic trackpad became possessed.  Anywhere I move the cursor on my i-Mac, it leaves havoc in its wake.  Programs open and close, windows open and close, and in Word, the page formatting cannot be maintained.  Without my direction, the text alignment realigns and whole parts of text are highlighted without my direction.
Once I took the batteries out and resumed using my mouse these problems went away.  What's going on?  Does my Mac have a virus or is it something else?
    Babe

"Once I took the batteries out"
Would seem to be the clue.   The chances are you have a bad connection.   Clean the terminals on the batteries and also in the battery compartment itself.   If this doesn't work change the batteries.   Do not use any old battery, Energiser Enyloop or Apple's own batteries are best.   The problem with cheap batteries is that sizes vary slightly and connection is therefore affected.

  • Apple Magic Trackpad questions

    Hello,
I bought yesterday a Magic Trackpad from Apple, after reading it was supported in 2.6.37. Pairing it with my Bluetooth USB dongle was quite easy using blueman-applet, and I read on several webpages that 'synaptics' driver was working with the trackpad, so I copied the lines from this post to my xorg.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Magic Trackpad"
    MatchUSBID "05ac:030e"
    Driver "synaptics"
    Option "SHMConfig" "On"
    EndSection
The problem I'm facing is that Xorg.0.log show the following suspecting error:
    [ 178.543] (EE) Query no Synaptics: 6003C8
[ 178.543] (--) Apple Wireless Trackpad: no supported touchpad found
[ 178.543] (EE) Apple Wireless Trackpad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware.
[ 178.586] (EE) PreInit failed for input device "Apple Wireless Trackpad"
    [ 178.586] (II) UnloadModule: "synaptics"
(You can see almost complete Xorg.0.log here)
However I can use the trackpad with its basic features (moving the cursor around and clicking). I can even change trackpad settings with gsynaptics with no problems at all, and enable advanced features such as tap to click and two finger scrolling.
I use the the latest version of package xf86-input-synaptics, 1.3.0-2.
Did anyone have this issue with Magic Trackpad? Am I dong something wrong?

Unlike you, I'm getting no response from my Magic Trackpad!  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Already added the aforementioned "InputClass" block in my xorg.conf.  I'm using bluez with blueman and everything looks like it's connecting properly.  Blueman-manager successfully detects, pairs, trusts, and SAYS it's connecting to my input service.  Also, the data activity icons are doing their thing (no other bluetooth devices connected to this laptop).  The yellow activity icon even starts blinking when I twiddle my fingers across the trackpad.
Here's what happens in my Xorg.0.log when I open up blueman-manager:
[ 50.749] (II) config/udev: Adding input device Apple Wireless Trackpad (/dev/input/event17)

  • Magic Trackpad Problems

Trying to use a new Magic Trackpad with an early 2006 iMac (10.5.5), I have found several problems.
    1. At first the trackpad felt as if it clicked when pressed down, now that does not happen.
    2. Initially, all seemed to work, now it only clicks. It will not drag, but scrolls with inertia and the two button click seems to work. It's now wickedly sensitive.
    3. In System Preferences it seems to still be looking for a Bluetooth track pad and mouse.
I know there was an issue with USB-Overdrive but I do not think I have that. Just checked for new software needed with software update and found none.
This certainly seems a bit buggy!
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Art Robb

Hi - Have you tried deleting the the Trackpad and then re-pairing it.
You're right that USBOverdrive seems to have given some people grief - often gets a mention on here. It might be worth downloading one of these search utilities: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30079/find-any-file or http://download.cnet.com/EasyFind/3000-2248_4-8707.html and search again. Maybe there's something buried somewhere and either of these apps seems to do a much better job than the built-in search at hunting things down.

  • Apple Magic Trackpad Availability?

Seeing as there was recently a leak on this, and images posted around the web, this tied in with Apple patenting the name magic Trackpad, do any of you guys know when we will actually see this device launched at all? Its perfect for what Im looking for, and so many other Mac users are hoping to buy one too.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
only Apple knows when they release new products and they won't tell here.

  • Apple magic mouse problem

    hello
so today i changed my Apple mouse batteries and now it disconnects by itself all the time and it's annoying me alot!
    what is the problem here?

    Hi code-itunes,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your Magic Mouse is not staying connected to your Mac. I know this can be an annoying situation.
If your Magic Mouse started disconnecting after you changed the batteries, you may want to try another set of batteries in case the ones you're using are depleted.
If the same thing happens with multiple sets of new batteries, next try the tips in this article:

  • Genius bar/apple support - trackpad problem

This may sound stupid butttt, my trackpad was wonky on one side of my brand new macbook, so I rang up apple and they sent me to the apple store in Eldon Square. However, I went today and the genius then said that he wouldnt be able to fix it and that I would need to ring up apple and get them to pick it up and fix it that way. The problem is is that apple support isnt open for macs now or tomorrow. Does this mean I have to wait until monday with a faulty trackpad until i can arrange a pick up? Thanks in advance.

Serial numbers starting with 5K are white box only. They could be refurbished or new, but are coming from a China plant according to the serial number checker.
I received a 5K white box replacement Friday, and its perfect. So if it was refurbished or new, this factory is doing a good job with them.

  • Can I use Apple Magic Trackpad from USA?

    The part number is MC380/LLA
Will I have problems using on a UK machine?
WIll I get warranty with it?
    Thanks
    Omar

Sure you can use it. The trackpad is universal
I dont know the specifics of warr. in your country.

  • Middleclick get's interpreted several times on Apple Magic Trackpad

For example in Firefox it opens tabs several times which is pretty annoying. Sometimes it works right, but when holding middle click it always sends several middle click signals.

It's the external bluetooth trackpad. The only relevant line in .xsession-errors is:
    ** (gsynaptics-init:680): WARNING **: Using synclient

  • Problem with Magic TrackPad and Macbook Pro

I just bought the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic TrackPad for my home desktop setup. I connect my Macbook Pro 13" (from august 2010) to a Dell U2410 screen.
Everything works perfectly for a while, but then the cursor starts jumping around on the screen when I use the Magic TrackPad. Now here comes the weird thing, if I open the lid on the Macbook just a few inches the jumping stops completely and the Magic TrackPad works perfectly again.
I have tried googling a bit and browsed these forums also - no luck finding a solution.
I have also tried connecting a USB mouse to the Macbook when the cursor started to jump around - no problem with the USB mouse. I have also tried a different Magic TrackPad that my friend also just have bought for his setup - same problem after a short time.
Everything is updated to the latest software and firmware.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I have the same problem with a Trackpad paired with a new Mac Mini just purchased in September. After a while, my trackpad also starts to exhibit behavior similar to those described by Hecro. The trackpad cursor feels frozen, or else it jumps around, often trying to stay away from or jump over any hyperlink in either text or graphic form on the page I am viewing.
I find that if I pick up the trackpad and hold it above my palm between my thumb on one side and my fingers on the other side — so there is no pressure on the clicking feet on the bottom of the trackpad — a "jumping" trackpad instantly becomes a "stable" trackpad. Put it back down on a surface and it starts jumping again.
Also, when it starts jumping or skipping, I also find that if I use one finger and bear down hard on the trackpad, it resumes being responsive.
I am filing a comment about this on Apple's feedback forum at www.apple.com/feedback at the advice of a Genius at the Apple Store at Cambridgeside in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA.
