Apple Magic Trackpad questions

Hello,
I bought yesterday a Magic Trackpad from Apple, after reading it was supported in 2.6.37. Pairing it with my Bluetooth USB dongle was quite easy using blueman-applet, and I read on several webpages that 'synaptics' driver was working with the trackpad, so I copied the lines from this post to my xorg.conf:
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Magic Trackpad"
MatchUSBID "05ac:030e"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "SHMConfig" "On"
EndSection
The problem I'm facing is that Xorg.0.log show the following suspecting error:
[ 178.543] (EE) Query no Synaptics: 6003C8
[ 178.543] (--) Apple Wireless Trackpad: no supported touchpad found
[ 178.543] (EE) Apple Wireless Trackpad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware.
[ 178.586] (EE) PreInit failed for input device "Apple Wireless Trackpad"
[ 178.586] (II) UnloadModule: "synaptics"
(You can see almost complete Xorg.0.log here)
However I can use the trackpad with its basic features (moving the cursor around and clicking). I can even change trackpad settings with gsynaptics with no problems at all, and enable advanced features such as tap to click and two finger scrolling.
I use the the latest version of package xf86-input-synaptics, 1.3.0-2.
Did anyone have this issue with Magic Trackpad? Am I dong something wrong?

Unlike you, I'm getting no response from my Magic Trackpad!  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Already added the aforementioned "InputClass" block in my xorg.conf.  I'm using bluez with blueman and everything looks like it's connecting properly.  Blueman-manager successfully detects, pairs, trusts, and SAYS it's connecting to my input service.  Also, the data activity icons are doing their thing (no other bluetooth devices connected to this laptop).  The yellow activity icon even starts blinking when I twiddle my fingers across the trackpad.
Here's what happens in my Xorg.0.log when I open up blueman-manager:
[ 50.749] (II) config/udev: Adding input device Apple Wireless Trackpad (/dev/input/event17)
[ 50.749] (**) Apple Wireless Trackpad: Applying InputClass "evdev touchpad catchall"

  • Apple Magic Trackpad freeze after three finger touch

    Hi at all!
I have the Apple Magic Trackpad and i wanted to use it with Arch. I installed the synaptics driver and the trackpad has the basic functionality like tap, scroll with two finger and second click with two-finger tap, however if a put three finger on it the trackpad freeze for like 10 seconds and then I'm able to continue using it. Now I don't even know where to start   looking for the problem... Someone know how to help me??

Hi! I have the same problem. Problem solved? Logs are clean. Works only on pressing touch, but only as a one-touch.

I have just purchased an Apple Magic Trackpad. I connected it to my Macbook to test it. Fine. But I want to use it with my IMac - and my IMac cannot discover it - even though it is turned on and the batteries are 100%. Why? Can I reconfigure it to the IMac?

Remove it from the Macbook first. BT devices may only be connected to one thing at a time.

  • Apple Magic Trackpad problem

I just bought the apple magic trackpad but it gives me only left-click and pointer movement, nothing more.
Not even two-finger scrolling or right click.
    Any ideas?
(I am using macbook pro 2010 and lion operating system).
    Thank you.

I ahev also been having the same trouble. I phoned Apple support and they made a couple of suggestions including re-installing Lion. Nothing worked so I took it back today for a replacement which does not work either.
It appears that it connecting as a mouse (mouse logo pops up) rather than a Magic Trackpad. Having told the Apple 'Genius' in-store while I was getting the replacement, he told me he had not heard of anyone else having this problem and it must be my hardware. It works fine on an identical system running 10.6.8.
I dont have USB Overdrive installed on mine. I am using a 24" iMac from 2009, 2.93GHz and 4GB RAM. I cant see any idea why it would not work so any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks,  Kev

  • Magic trackpad question

I posted this question in another section of this site and didnt get a response so I thought Id put it in another section and maybe Ill get a response this time.  Basically, my problem is after my computer goes to sleep and I click a key to wake it up my arrow is frozen and wont move, Ive checked the battery power in my trackpad and my keyboard and they both have plenty of battery power and it shows that my trackpad is connected onscreen yet my arrow still wont move.  I have to mess with turning my trackpad off and on and have to turn my computer off and on again as I have no way of clicking boxes because the arrow wont move.  This has just started happening in the past 2 or 3 days and I havent done anything out of the ordinary.  It finally comes around and starts working but I would like it to work instantly after I click a key to wake my computer up like it used to do for years before this started happening.  Could anyone help me with this and tell me why this may be happening and what I can do to fix it?  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Bluetooth and 802.11b/g (sometimes n) WiFi 2.4GHz frequences.  Also on some Macs the WiFi and Bluetooth antennas are either shared or very close to each other.
So you can have interference from 2.4GHz WiFi.  You can also have interference from 2.4GHz cordless phones (yours or your close neighbors), 2.4GHz baby monitors (yours or your close neighbors), microwave ovens (which also use 2.4GHz frequencies).
As an experiment, when they happens again, turn off your Mac's WiFi (WiFi menu -> Turn Wi-Fi Off.  See if your Magic Trackpad will connect.  Then turn WiFi back on.
If you have the option of use 802.11n 5GHz only WiFi in your home, give that a try (I understand that many handheld devices often only have 2.4GHz WiFi support, so this might ONLY be an experiment).
You could try the suggestions in the following article
    <http://www.computerworld.com/article/2475598/mac-os-x/os-x-mavericks--fixing-wir eless-keyboard-mouse-connections.html>
    You could try deleting
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
    reboot your Mac
Pair all your bluetooth devcies again.
Wild idea, maybe AirDrop is causing problem (not my best idea, so do not assume it will be of any use).

  • Apple Magic Trackpad Availability?

Seeing as there was recently a leak on this, and images posted around the web, this tied in with Apple patenting the name magic Trackpad, do any of you guys know when we will actually see this device launched at all? Its perfect for what Im looking for, and so many other Mac users are hoping to buy one too.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
only Apple knows when they release new products and they won't tell here.

  • Magic Trackpad question (new user)

I am a new iMac user, using the MAGIC trackpad. I used a trackpad on the MacBookPro without difficulty. In my first week of using the MAGICb trackpad I'm getting a lot of finger tingling. I don't now if this is carpal tunnel (I do have some history) or something odd about using the trackpad. I've seen a lot of posts about tingling on the MacBookPro linked to grounding issues, but that is likely different for the laptop. Any suggestions? Is there a way to make it easier to click? (not requiring so much pressure?)

I have this information. I'm not having trouble getting the magic pad to work (finger gestures, etc.) I'm having trouble with finger tingling. I wanted to know if people had this problem (some on the MacBook Pro do, from what I've read) and if there are any suggestions about this particular problem.

  • Middleclick get's interpreted several times on Apple Magic Trackpad

For example in Firefox it opens tabs several times which is pretty annoying. Sometimes it works right, but when holding middle click it always sends several middle click signals.

It's the external bluetooth trackpad. The only relevant line in .xsession-errors is:
    ** (gsynaptics-init:680): WARNING **: Using synclient

  • Problem with Magic TrackPad and Macbook Pro

I just bought the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic TrackPad for my home desktop setup. I connect my Macbook Pro 13" (from august 2010) to a Dell U2410 screen.
Everything works perfectly for a while, but then the cursor starts jumping around on the screen when I use the Magic TrackPad. Now here comes the weird thing, if I open the lid on the Macbook just a few inches the jumping stops completely and the Magic TrackPad works perfectly again.
I have tried googling a bit and browsed these forums also - no luck finding a solution.
I have also tried connecting a USB mouse to the Macbook when the cursor started to jump around - no problem with the USB mouse. I have also tried a different Magic TrackPad that my friend also just have bought for his setup - same problem after a short time.
Everything is updated to the latest software and firmware.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I have the same problem with a Trackpad paired with a new Mac Mini just purchased in September. After a while, my trackpad also starts to exhibit behavior similar to those described by Hecro. The trackpad cursor feels frozen, or else it jumps around, often trying to stay away from or jump over any hyperlink in either text or graphic form on the page I am viewing.
I find that if I pick up the trackpad and hold it above my palm between my thumb on one side and my fingers on the other side — so there is no pressure on the clicking feet on the bottom of the trackpad — a "jumping" trackpad instantly becomes a "stable" trackpad. Put it back down on a surface and it starts jumping again.
Also, when it starts jumping or skipping, I also find that if I use one finger and bear down hard on the trackpad, it resumes being responsive.
I am filing a comment about this on Apple's feedback forum at www.apple.com/feedback at the advice of a Genius at the Apple Store at Cambridgeside in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA.

  • Magic Trackpad and Win 8?

Is it possible to use the Apple Magic Trackpad with a Windows 8 Laptop.  If so is there an idiot sheet to explain how?
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Apple hasn't released Boot Camp drivers compatible with Windows 8, so you have to wait until Apple releases them. It usually happens with a OS X update, in this case, it's probably that they will be launched with OS X 10.8.3

  • Gnome 3.2 - Bluetooth - Magic Trackpad autoconnect problem

    Hi everyone!
I recently bought an Apple Magic Trackpad and still am trying to get it working properly. Here is the thing. First of all: once it is working it does its job until I reboot. The functionality persists over suspending for several days.
But as soon as I have got to do a reboot everything is hard to get in place. At first I had problems connecting my trackpad at all after a reboot via blueman. Sometimes the whole machine would freeze after trying to connect my trackpad with my dongle. Often I have got to plug it out and back in to get it working several times and some wild clicking in blueman to connect to the input-service of the trackpad.
Now I found out something rather strange. When I keep the dongle out of my machine while booting and until I have my keyring unlocked and the plug it in, the trackpad connects within a second and everything is workin flawlessly. So what is the deal over here? Is there any way I can make my machine use the dongle right from start without having got to plug the dongle in and out at every weekly reboot?
I already tried the hints in the wiki for auto-connecting a device but this rendered my trackpad useless and the pc wasn't connecting at all.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Mm, I suppose it could be. I'm using

    Kernel driver in use: fglrx_pci
    Kernel modules: fglrx, radeon
on this machine (lspci -v from my linux mint installation running gnome 2.*). it didn't have a problem with the open source drivers on gnome 3.0, nor fglrx on gnome 2.* and kde4 works great to. strange ...
i'll try out some stuff from testing.

  • I can't Get Magic Trackpad to Work

I have an unusual setup - any help would be appreciated.
Mac Pro 2,1 (2006), original Vista 64 bit install on HD2 formatted NTFS since upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit. Boot Camp drivers 2.x added after install for Mac peripherals. Keyboard and mice including magic Mouse worked fine.
Windows 7 (64 bit) boots and runs fine in this setup. Mac OS 10.7.x installed on HD1 and 10.6.8 installed in HD3, all boot and run fine.
Apple Magic Trackpad is recognized as a Bluetooth device under Windows 7 but won't pair or function. I have downloaded Windows drivers for the trackpad and extracted them using 7Zip, but they fail to install with a "not supported on this system" message. Similarly, I can't upgrade my Boot Camp drivers from 2.x with an error message (wrong) "a later version of Boot Camp is installed on this system".
Having to use a wired mouse is annoying. Any ideas?

got an imac ran windows 7 64bit ultimate on it
installed the boot camp drivers everything was fine
about a year later I updated to win8 pro not a clean install but an update using the digital version not an
    disc version
my magic trackpad still works fine though in windows I have to click it before it wakes and starts to work
    in osx it always works
