Apple Mail 2.1.3 (OS X 10.4.11) deleted message keeps reappearing

I sent a mail that exceeded the maximum size of the recipients mailbox. When the mail-delivery message came back, my system HD was full and the incoming mail could not be stored. After I got my Mac back running, the mail-delivery-error-message keeps reappearing – even after deletion.
When I delete the message in the inbox and in the trash, it reappears as soon as I click on "Inbox". If I open the message and click the "Delete Message" icon, it stays and appears in my trash as often as I clicked it. How can I get rid of that message?
Thanx.

If you know what you are doing it may be simplest to backup all emails and Mail settings and progressively remove Mail settings and files until you find the problem.
Make sure you do not delete more than you have to from the server.
Perhaps start by checking the server via web access to see that it looks OK at that end and does not have your large file stuck somewhere.

  • Apple Mail syncing while typing, multiple updates on BB for same message.

First of all, thanks for looking and helping. Second, it's probably my fault as I am a tweaker often to my detriment. So, with disclaimers out of the way, here's what is happening:
I have a MacBook Pro and my mail is IMAP from my GMail account. When I respond to an email on the Apple, using Apple Mail, WHILE I AM TYPING, the BB retrieves a NEW email with the latest installment of the email!!! Here's an example that just happened:
Open email, start replying... "Paul, I wanted to explain"
BB announces new mail with that sentence
I continue typing... "why I like pasta"
BB announces new email with "Paul, I wanted to explain why I like pasta"
    Etc., etc., etc.
So, my work around it to go to gmail.com and write the email within that program as opposed to using Apple Mail on laptop.
My BB is Tour 9630 with 4.7.1   and the Gmail app is 2.0.7, if it matters.
The Apple is running OS X 10.6.2 and Apple Mail is 4.2
Oh, Bluetooth is not turned on on either device.
Let me know if you need any further info. Thanks again for looking!
    Peace.

  • Apple Mail 5.3 seems to corrupt/lose its place in message id sequence numbers

OS/X 10.7/Apple mail 5.3 seems to corrupt (or at least lose its place in) the message id sequence number. Two days ago, around 2:0x mail stopped fetching email from a pop server that I own (all installed through WHM and CPanel at WestHost).  This happened again today sometime around 2:0y.
Logging into webmail showed a number of emails pending.  Bouncing mail or restarting OS/X yielded no joy.
When I delete the email account in Mail->Preferences->Accounts and then recreate it, it fetches all the mail as expected.
Any ideas on how to figure out what is going on?
Note that CPanel did undergo a big upgrade to 11.34 on Tuesday, so my initial thought was that was culprit, but since delete/recreate of the mail account fixes, I am not so sure.
    thanks in advance,
    Mike.

Forgot to add, no one else using this pop server reported any problems (and I checked).
    Mike.

  • I have duplicate mail accounts and deleted messages keep redownloading in gmail

I am using Mountain Lion and I have a me.com email account, gmail account, and sbcglobal.net account.  I set up my accounts in iMail and I use iCloud, but now I have duplicate mail accounts and every time I delete messages from my gmail account, the next time I go into Mail, all the deleted messages are back in my gmail account.  How do I stop this from happening and how do I make it so that I don't have duplicates of everything!

All 3 email accounts show up under Inbox, but all three also show up as iCloud, sbcglobal.net, and gmail.  The iCloud account will occasionally get duplicates, the sbcglobal.net account only gets mail that sbcglobal.net has put into a "bulk" folder and seems to be all junk mail and does not show up in the sbcglobal.net inbox account and the gmail shows up in both places, but I can delete messages in the gmail inbox account and they do not download again, but the second gmail account is the one that keeps redownloading the already deleted messages into the gmail "all mail" folder.  I have tried deleting the gmail account and have gone to gmail's help page, but they are behind with set up for Mac Mail.  The set up is for Mail 3.0 and not 6.2.  It keeps downloading over a thousand emails into this gmail "all mail" folder.  Is there any way to stop this?

  • Mail deleted massages keep reappearing

I am a Mavericks operating & macbook user. I have noticed that every time I use Mail and delete unwanted messages, they keep reappearing again.
Is there a way to make Mac Mail is the Master and Yahoo/Gmail/Outlook is the slave, so that every action taken in Mail will be reflected in its relative mail box?
    Regards,

    Hello Joe.
What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
Certain messages keep re-appearing in my inBox, even when I delete them.
You may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with one message or just a few at a time), but you should remove them from the server first if they’re still there.
Mail is only receiving some of the email messages sent to me.
Do you have any custom rules? It looks like Mail is downloading all the messages, but your rules are processing them in an unexpected way...
Open the Account Info window by choosing Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailbox list in the main Mail window. Does Mail display there the messages that it doesn’t download? Do they appear as already downloaded or as not downloaded yet (dot column)?

  • Macbook Pro - mail account. Deleted messages keep coming back!

    Hey,
I've deleted several messages (they were also in my drafts) and they keep popping back up in my sent mail and inbox, sometimes multiple copies of the same message. I want those messages gone. They keep coming back!!!! How do I fix this?

In Mail you have to move the message to gmail trash. Just deleting the message assigns it the delete label but doesn't delete it. You can truly delete the messages in web gmail, however.
    I hope this helps.

  • No longer able to create a new message window in Apple Mail

Please help! When I am in Apple Mail, I am no longer able to create a new message window (Command-N), and so cannot send any mail. This just started after the most recent OS update yesterday.

  • View Duplicate Messages in Apple Mail 7.3 in Mavericks

    Hello,
Up till at least OS X Lion, if there were duplicate email messages, there would be a blue link in the header of the message in Apple Mail that you could click on to reveal the duplicate messages.
Im currently running Mavericks and Apple Mail 7.3.
By default, there no longer seems to be any indication that there are duplicate messages??  Is that correct???
I have found the Terminal commands that will allow me to "ungroup" duplicate messages:
To disable automatic grouping of duplicate messages, quit Mail then run this command in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates -bool true
To revert to the default setting, run this command:
defaults write com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates -bool false
or simply delete the setting altogether with this command:
              defaults delete com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates
If you want to see how Mail behaves with this setting enabled, but without modifying your preference file, start Mail from Terminal with this command:
              /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail -AlwaysShowDuplicates YES
These seem to work fine as far as listing the duplicate messages in the message list.
    HOWEVER . . .
    What I am wondering is . .
Is there no way to leave the duplicates "grouped" so there is only single entry in the message list BUT have the link in the header that indicates that there are duplicates and allow you to click on that link to reveal the duplicates in the message list???    I find having the link in the header easier to work with rather than having ALL of the duplicates ungrouped in the message list.
ALSO - for what it's worth:
I also tried setting the "Show Header Detail" option in Mail Preferences to "Custom" which includes an entry called "Duplicates" in the list of times displayed in the custom header but I still do not get any indication (that I can see) that there are duplicate messages . . .
Any ideas or experience with this????

  • Apple Mail & .Mac Flaw - Eating HUGE Bandwidth

I received a call from the Comcast security service yesterday. Comcast told me that my cable modem reflected more than 1TB of data streaming thru it last month. Comcast threatened to turn my service off if I had another month like that.
I have 4 macs sitting behind a wired router with a secure firewall - the macs have IP addresses assigned by the router. File sharing is turned off. Norton anti-virus software running. I figured Comcast was wrong, until I checked the lights on the router. Data was just flying on and off my Mac Pro Tower (running 10.5.2).
I went into panic mode. I figured that somebody had gained access to the 500GB of data on my hard drive, which presented a very ugly ID theft scenario. so I wnet down the road of setting up a fraud alert, changed passwords (using a secure computer at my office, etc), canceling credit cards, etc.
I then added SurplusMeter, to see what was going on. Sure enough, huge amounts of data moving up and down. Surprisingly, more data was moving down than up. What the ****?
I then added Little Snitch. Firefox open, Safari open, Apple Mail open, and the data was flying. I didn't keep track, but I was downloading a GB of data as fast as my high speed cable modem would allow apparently, with lots of data moving up to.
The data stopped moving when I closed everything. That's odd. I opened up Firefox and Safari, and no data moved. I closed Firefox and Safari and then opened up Apple Mail, and the data started flying again. Little Snitch showed the connection to Apple Mail as the only existing network connection.
I use Apple Mail with a dotmac account. The only email program and provider I use. I had a ton of messages in my inbox on the dotmac side and the Apple Mail side, so I moved those to folders, archived or deleted them. The data was still flying. I deleted all plist and reindexed my messages on the Apple Mail side. No change.
    I upgraded to 10.5.3 - no change.
I finally went back to the dotmac side, and found 37 messages in my SENT folder. The messages covered a year - they might have been messages that I sent using dotmac over the web while I was traveling. When I deleted those messages from my dotmac SENT folder, the data movement stopped completely.
This is a SERIOUS problem. I found two other mentions of this problem in this forum. No response to either message. Apple Mail - dotmac generated more than 1TB of data streaming over a one month period. I gather this is an isolated problem. But there is nothing special about my email usage or storage. (Apple Mail had been acting odd for a while - the program would hang 90% of the time when I would close it. I would have to use Force Quit.)

I'm having the same problem, my inbox on my mail server is only 45MB, and I get about 100KB of email a day, but my mail app is somehow transferring 20TB a month to my mail server!!!! It all happens in the background so I don't even notice it going on.
I'm about to get kicked off my host. APPLE??? what the heck is going on?

  • More Apple Mail Issues

We have been using Apple Mail at our school for some time with few problems. We use it as the link to an outside POP3 service. Recently, as with so many other users, we have begun to have serious issues with crashing, loss of messages and issues with both sending and receiving at times. A new one has developed now. Disk Warrior was run recently and seemed to have had decent results. Upon closer inspection, it has apparently altered the modification dates of many user files and folders, as well as mail files (all to the same date: April 1, 1976). Now with mail, users are finding the message: 'The message from <[email protected]> concerning "(subject") has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.' The account is already online. I'm not sure if this is a result of the Disk Warrior intervention, or if it is a continuation of Apple Mail issues, or both. Also, users click on one message, and another displays. If you scroll through your messages, continuous crashes occur, and sometimes all messages disappear. Fortunately, with our mail service (Gaggle), we can retrieve messages directly online.
The issues do not occur in Entourage, and I am testing a couple of other mail applications as well. So it is definitely an Apple Mail problem. I have tried many of the fixes I have seen in other posts, but with no success. Running Disk Utility or Tech Tool has no effect. Our solution for now is to just not use Apple Mail - which our users are use to.
I will be curious to see what solutions come out. This is a serious issue for many users.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Is there a ( SEND LATER ) option in Apple Mail ?

Hi, I need to configure apple mail in Mac OS X 10.5.6 to queue messages, i.e. send latter,
I don't want to take the account offline, I still want to receive messages but be able to control when an eMail is actually sent.
It's for a client who has a bad habit of sending unfinished eMails too quickly.
We are moving her to mail after 8 years using Eudora.
    Please advise, thanks

If a particular client or particular software package doesn't work for you, then go find a package that better fits your requirements and expectations; there are options around. Thunderbird seems to have options here.
As for suggestions around Apple Mail, that's usually via the "Provide Mail Feedback" item in the Apple Mail menus. Apple Mail > Mail > Provide Mail Feedback > and make your case.
Would there be a reason to hold off on sending your enhancement suggestion for a few hours?

  • Please help with troubleshooting Applescript invoked by Apple Mail rule

I set up an account with Boxcar to get push notification of incoming email on my iPhone. I did this because I passworded my iPhone and cannot see incoming messages without entering the password. Now all I need to do is glance at the screen to see whether it's worth it or not to look at the email. In order to use the Boxcar service, I needed to set up a rule to redirect all incoming mail to my private address on Boxcar. The issues that I have are two-fold. First, I do not like blindly forwarding email content to Boxcar regardless of their stated claim that they strip out the sender and subject of a message and discard the rest. Second, if I get a large incoming email, then My method will have to send the large content out again - a waste of resources. To get around this, I tried to write an Applescript for Apple Mail that is invoked by a rule applicable to all messages. The script redirects all messages to my private Boxcar email address and strips out the content of the message. The script follows:
    using terms from application "Mail"
on perform mail action with messages selectedMessages
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ""
    repeat with theMessage in selectedMessages
    set boxcarMessage to redirect theMessage
    tell boxcarMessage
    make new to recipient at beginning of to recipients with properties {address:"[email protected]"}
    set content to " "
    set subject to theMessage's subject
    end tell
    send boxcarMessage
    end repeat
end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
The problem with this script is that it still sends out the content even though I thought I was setting it to a single space. Other than that, it does just what I need it to do. Any suggestions on corrections, an easier Applescript, or another way to approach the whole issue? One drawback to this approach is that I need to have a Mac running at home that processes the rule for the incoming messages - probably there is no way around this?
    Thanks!

That makes sense, but then that gets back to your original comment:
"redirecting the message will send the entire message, as-is."
I tried to eliminate the attachments by adding the line:
    delete boxcarMessage's attachments
but it did not work - the attachments were redirected also. So here is the script as it stands now:
    using terms from application "Mail"
on perform mail action with messages selectedMessages
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ""
    repeat with theMessage in selectedMessages
    set boxcarMessage to redirect theMessage
    delete boxcarMessage's attachments
    tell boxcarMessage
    make new to recipient at beginning of to recipients with properties {address:"[email protected]"}
    end tell
    delay 3
    send boxcarMessage
    end repeat
end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
I appreciate the input. Intuitively it seems like this is doable, but the solution escapes me.
