Apple mail 4.5 max. mbox export size

we are attempting to archive a couple of rather large mail folders from within apple mail, they contain in excess of 20000 emails and the actual folders in...
~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes
... are around 14GB in size.
the problem is that if we archive these from within mail, the export only generates mbox files of around 4.2GB which clearly do not contain all emails from the original folder.
is this a known limitation?
and what can we do to get large folders archived... presumably we could simply take the actual mbox folders in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes?

Apparently, FluentFactory, the company that produce mBox Mail, aren't very keen on answering e-mails or support tickets. To this day I haven't heard anything from them.
So today I sent them another e-mail, asking for a solution to the problem. I hope they'll reply this time, as this situation is driving me mad. I don't really see a use for a programme that doesn't do what it's supposed to do. Kind of like HP who produce computers that don't compute
I'll let you know, tramac and others interested, if I hear back from FluentFactory.

  • While typing in Apple Mail how do I change font size?

This is not a question about SETTINGS PREFERENCES
Forget Settings, I am pasting text into Apple Mail on an iPad Air. The text pastes at another size and style. How do I change the size of the pasted text within Apple Mail on an iPad Air?
Again, I want to change the size of text within Apple Mail, NOT SETTINGS Preferences. How do I stop typing and change the size of text while using Apple Mail?

The size of text in a mail message can't be changed. It is possible to change text style to bold, italic, and underlined.

  • Apple Mail - Emoji - can I increase the size

I see in Lion (10.7.2) that mail has Special Characters and now has Emoji symbols.  Does anyone know if its possible to increase the sizes?
When inserting a character, the emoji  symbol is very small.

    Glad to help, Alan.
    Enjoy.

Is there a way to get an apple mail folder exported to outlook mail folder structure?  I'm using Gmail on my IMAC and have a PC for work.  Want to share folder structure between systems.

Use following steps to import apple mail to outlook:
Choose Mailbox->Export Mailbox, or choose Export Mailbox from the Action pop-up menu
Choose a folder or create a new folder where you want to store the exported mailbox.
Outlook for Mac: Choose File->Import Mailboxes. Select the mail application you want to import messages from.
If it does not work then you should use third party apple mail to pst applications. You can easily search in Google about these applications.

  • Apple mail doesn't read imported mbox emails

    Hi
I had a massive crash on my HD MacBook Pro. Technical support were not able to recover my data. Somehow with a friend's help I managed to copy apple mail's archive mbox file onto my Desktop. I was really happy with the possibility of having all my data back but...
I was using Mavericks already when I stored the emails on that parent folder so I tried to import that big mbox file (5.82 GB) but AppleMail didn't recognize it (error: no mbox file found) neither the AppleMail import option seemed to work even though it announced that an "imported" folder was created on Mail's side bar - something that I was not able to locate not even on a Finder search.
I tried a few tricks like copying the files to the same location. All folders suddenly appeared but... no emails were shown.
I tried installing Thunderbird in hope to import and export a new file but it didn't work
I called Apple's support but after half an hour they didn't seem to overcome the problem.
So I have this big problem of compatibility that is stopping me from having all that info back on sight.
    One last note:
Last night I was desperate about a certain info stored in one of those emails so I went through the folders one by one and opened a lot of emails until I found the info I was looking for. I guess this proves that all data is still intact.
Any tips to overcome this stressful relation with Apple Mail?
    Thanks

    thank you now everything works

  • Export Apple mail to Outlook 2011 for Mac

    Hi everyone,
I don't like the serie Mail/iCal/Carnet d'adresses from Apple, reason why I bought Outlook 2011 for Mac.
I succeed transferring all my contacts to Outlook.
I try now to transfer all my mails with their categories to Outlook too but I don't succeed.  I read some discussions on this forum but they are obsolete as they were with snowLeopard and Outlook 2011.  Would someone have good news for me and find a way to transfer all the mails with their categories from Apple Mail to Outlook 2011 for Mac ?
It would be nice and to receive a positive answer.
    Thank you for your help

I’ve found a way in which you can import Apple Mail into Outlook 2011 on Mac OS X Lion.
The software I’m running is Mac OS X 10.7.2 on a 2011 MacBook Pro.
You need to purchase an app called Emailchemy. It’s 29.99 for an individual license, and 49.99 for a family license. There are enterprise versions available as well.
Once you run the app, you need to do the following:
    1. Export all mailboxes from Apple Mail to your desktop (or any other suitable location on your computer). You do this by selecting the mailbox, and then clicking on “Mailbox”, and then “Export Mailbox”. Save the destination, and the file is saved automatically.
    2. Then you open Emailchemy and do the following:
    - click on “toolbox” in the bottom left hand corner
    - click on the second box on the top left hand called “advanced email conversion”
    - click on “add file”
    - select the folder (s) you just exported from Apple Mail (e.g. Inbox.mbox)
    Now here comes the trick
    - select format “apple mail 1.0 in the format option at the bottom
    - then 3 sub-folders will appear “info-p.list”, “mbox” and “table of contents”
    Select “mbox”
    - click on “convert” and choose a save file name. Choose the format “MBOX file (standard mbox)”
    - click on save
And you then have a folder created which Outlook 2011 recognizes and can import.
I just imported all my Apple Mail into Outlook 2011 – it works really well too – the formatting, attachments, etc are all there!
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I import my mbox file for Apple Mail?

I just did a clean install of my mac os on an iMac. Prior to the install, I exported my mail account to an external drive. I got an INBOX.mbox file/folder that's 4.32GBs. When I click the file, there is an "mbox" file and a "table_of_contents" file.
In Apple mail, I chose import mailboxes - Mail for Mac OS X - and clicked the file. It brings an INBOX folder into the ON MY MAC folder... but no mail. I have tried this a 1/2-dozen ways and cannot get my mail to reload. I assume it's there since the file is 4.32GB.
Anyone have thoughts on this? This is business mail that I need for sure. I feel confident that the files are there since the file is so big. What gives?

It's a mac drive, however, I got past that issue by copying the file to my desktop. The issue now is that it won't load all of the way. It crashes mail half way through. I get mail back to 2011 when it should go back to 2008.
    Thoughts?

  • Export Apple Mail to Outlook

Just set up my new MBP17 with Boot Camp and now I need to move my old mail over to the dark side and get it into Outlook. I've got the address book over already, just need to move messages. Tried to do this via Eudora or MailSmith but can't even get the messages from Mac Mail to Mac Eudora, so I'm stuck. Any ideas?

  • Email size presets for Aperture/Apple Mail

How do you change the email size presets in Aperture/Apple Mail? I send photos and the large setting is only about 300k per image. with my other iMac large setting would render about a 1.5mb image.

Preferences for Aperture click the export tab and that allows you to control the size of the exported photos to mail.

  • I'm missing mail in my Inbox from my .live account in Apple Mail. I'm using mbox with my hotmail account. If that made any sense?!

I'm all of a sudden missing old mail in my inbox labeled .live - I used mBox to set up my hotmail account with Apple Mail. It's not in the trash nor on my hotmail account online anymore. Hmmmm??? I already tried to rebuild and my mbox folder in the library seems fine. Anyone?? I only have about a month's worth of mail which made me think I had mistakenly selected some 'time frame' for keeping inbox messages but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • How to export Apple Mail Email Addresses..

I am going about an email-gathering process in order to analyze addresses I want to use for future marketing.
One resource of qualified leads is my 5 year old Gmail account which has all my correspondence 'banked' -
so I want to extract and put into a list form (spreadsheet, csv) - all of the sent-to and received-from email
addresses that i have accumulated.  Since Gmail doesn't natively export email addresses as a list, I must
go through the process of either a POP or IMAP download to an email client.  I decided to set up Apple Mail
with an IMAP configuration for the purpose of offloading all of my gmail into Apple Mail.  That is currently in
progress - I am running the "sync" feature at the moment - figure it'll be a half-day or so to process through
    it.
Then comes the question, which i forgot to consider - and I am not sure about this because i normally use Thunderbird...
is there a way to export all of the Emails from the Apple Mail folders once they've downloaded from Gmail - into a format
that can be 'read' by an email extraction app - i.e., .csv, or tab delimited, etc... I see stuff about "Address Book" being
exported, but nothing specifically referring to the email addresses themselves.
Hope this question makes sense and thanks for any advice or second opinion on whether there's a better way to do
    what i'm trying to do.
    Thanks
    Mike

Hi, thanks for that info - I have this app called Email Extractor - it may read the .emlx files -haven't been able to find much documentation....been a year or two since i toyed with it andi won't know til the IMAP downloading to the email client is done before i can try it... will probably take half a day before this synch process completes as it has about 15,000 emails to process...
As for the data, I basically just need the email addresses.   It would make life simpler if there were a converter that would just transform the .emlx to .csv in order for me to run the list through the Extractor parsing' app.  I was kinda hoping i could export from Mail to .csv or something this app can readily read...
    Thanks again,
    Mike

  • Apple Mail automatically changing font size while typing

I've been using Apple Mail for about a month now and only just recently did it start exhibiting this unusual behavior where the font type and size of the entire message would change to something different while I was typing! Pressing CTRL+Z a couple times would revert the font to its intended size only to have it change back again a few keystrokes later. I noticed that it only happens when I type a word that contains an apostrophe (it's, David's, we're, isn't, we'll, etc.) and words that get auto-corrected. Going to MAIL | PREFERENCES and changing my Message Font does nothing as the font changes to something not set in Preferences.
Has anybody experienced this before? What did you do to fix it? Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    Chris

Thanks for the suggestion, Eric. Unfortunately, that didn't do the trick. This is happening on my iMac at home and, just for reassurance, I compared the mail settings side-by-side to my work MacBook (which does not have this issue) -- all settings are identical!

  • Trying to import older .mbox files into Apple mail

I have been trying to import older .mbox files back into Apple mail over an hour.
No matter what I use in the import window, nothing seems to work.
If it imports it sends it to the mail downloads folder but nothing from that point on.
I can read text in TextEdit but it's all running together.
    OS X v10.6.8 Snow Leopard

I noticed on the left side way down past my last mail box folder ( long list) for the import .mbox files.
    Seems they were hidden !

  • Apple Mail database size limit?

I recently screwed up my Entourage database by allowing it to get too big and lost a lot of info. I switched to Apple mail, which works fine, but am worried about same thing happening coz its getting big.
    1. Is there a limit to the size of this database.
    2. Is there any maintenance that needs to be done, like Entourage?

    Douglas,
Back in October, Allan Sampson responded to a similar question you poised, and included a link -- that discussion can still be found at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=718074#718074
An article, to which Allan linked, suggested that individual mailboxes should be kept below 2 GB -- the totality of the database (all mailboxes) has no limit other than disk space on the computer.
Mail has the command to remove attachments, but leave the text of messages, as well. Hope this helps.
Erasure of deleted messages is a good idea, and as Allan mentioned, a command to Rebuild a mailbox is available -- Rebuild causes Mail to redo its table of contents info, and is probably a good idea to use on occasion.
