Apple mail address autocomplete

In Apple Mail it does the address autocomplete by the person's name. However, there are times when I know the person's domain, but can't remember their name. For example, I want to send an email to John Smith, but don't remember his name, but I do remember that his email address domain is at xyzcorp dot com. Is there a way for autocomplete to work if I type xyzcorp? I haven't been able to figure it out if it can, but it would seem weird to me that you can search like that in Contacts app, but not in Mail.

I don't think you understood my question. What I want to do is this... When composing a new email I would like to start typing xyz and have autocomplete suggest [email protected] along with any other person that has @xyz. That way, even if I forget John Smith's name, I can still "find" him by typing xyz. It appears that Mail only suggests names from Contacts based on the person's name.

  • Switching from Entourage to Apple Mail, Address Book and iCal

I currently use Microsoft Entourage and would like to switch to Apple Mail, Address Book and iCal. I also need to sync with my Palm Tungsten3. Can someone please step me through the process of making this switch?

In Mail.app, try pulling down the File menu and select the "import mailboxes" item.
To sync your PDA, use Apple's iSinc. Info on iSync is available here ...

  • Is there a way to use Apple Mail/Address Book/Calendar with a Microsoft Exchange Server that requires a client certificate ?

I have an Exchange server configured to require a client certificate. Is there a way to configure a certificate for Apple Mail/Address Book/Calendar ? There seems to be no option in the account settings to do that (in contrast to for example the IMAP settings).
    Any help highly appreciated !

I don't know. Try downloading the certificate and installing it in your keychain. See what happens.

  • If using apple mail address as ID, can I use a different password?

If using apple mail address as ID as suggested in the Apple ID setup, can I use a different password or is it the same as for my email?
I have read, more times than I can count, that using the same psw for many things is not recommended... in general. Will using my email and psw, compromise email security?
If I use my .mac or .me (any preferrence by apple?) can I then change the password in my email so that icloud and email have diff psw's?
    Am I over thinking this?
Will this same ID be used in my iTunes account?
What is the best / most secure / recommended way to go about this?
    affected are:
    apple email acct
    apple support communities
    iTunes
    iCloud
There appear to be so many variables and assuming once apple  id/icloud is set, it is likely difficult to alter if at all possible so I  just want to be sure.
    Thanks.
PS: is there a phone number for support on this?

I explained that in the original post.
My iTunes account was once compromised. Isn't iTunes login and psw the same as Apple ID and iCloud?
It is the idea of using the same login and psw for several things.

  • Outlook Sync Apple Mail/Address Book/Calendar

Anyone knows if Syncing outlook's mail, calendar and address book with Apple Mail, Address Book and iCal is a possible task? I have tried it but one of the machines will ask if i want to erase all data and sync with current system (using iPhone).
What i want to achieve is to sync my work PC and my home MAC so i can constantly work from both locations without having to bring my laptop home. I like to get my work done at night and get everything ready for next day. So when i get to office, i can simply sync my calendar, tasks, and appointments and get to work without having to re-enter the data.

I don't know. Try downloading the certificate and installing it in your keychain. See what happens.

  • Hi! where can I find the apple mail address to contact the company

Hello!! I desperatly need to contact by mail the Apple Store of the 5th Avenue, New York. Where can I find the email address??
    Thanks

    This is the mailing address...
    Apple Store

If you mean the email address, there is none.  Apple doesn't provide a support email address.

  • Mail Address autocomplete has many invalid emails remembered. Can it be edi

A friend of mine has recently changed their internet service provider and hence their email address. For example, they did have an email address similar to "[email protected]" and now have "[email protected]". I have made the change in Address Book, completely removing the old email address. Now in Mail, when I begin typing their name, the auto-complete shows both address with the incorrect and nonexistent old email address highlighted as the default.
Since I have gotten in the habit of pressing "Return" when entering email addresses to quickly auto fill the complete address, I quite often send the email to my friend's incorrect nonexistent address.
I also have several other old email addresses that seem to come up when I begin typing addresses that I would like to remove. How can I edit and delete the invalid addresses that Mail seems to have stored somewhere?
I notice that the following article states that "Mail will choose the address most often used, not the most recently used."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21017?viewlocale=en_US
But it is going to be a long time before the new address I am using will exceed the number of past uses of the old.
Can I use the "Configure LDAP" to specify my own file that I can edit?
If not, is there a way to completely erase what mail has remembered other than what is in the Address book?
    Thank you in Advance!
    Jeff

Open Mail, Click on "Window" on the menu, select "Previous Recipients" and remove the addresses.

  • Apple Mail Missing Message

This morning I received an email from work on my Mac. It was addressed to my Apple mail address. I use Apple Mail App. I noticed the message does not appear on my iPhone. Yes the account in set up properly as I receive other mail. I logged onto iCloud and noticed the same message missing in iCloud. The message is clearly addressed to my .mac account. What's going on? I'm worried I'm missing other mail. Mac is Mavericks, iPhone iOS 8. Thank for any insights.

OK Solved the issue. Mail in iCloud was Sort by unread as opposed to sort by date. Original email on the iPhone was bundled with my reply to the message several hours later. Having flagged the reply on my iPhone, the message was immediately bundled in Mail on my Mac. I guess I have to sit down with mail and figure out how to deselect this feature as it causes some confusion if I try to search mail manually for a message by date and time.

  • Using Yahoo Basic Mail w/FF, no drop down box of my e-mail contacts as I type an e-mail address - but it works in IE 8, plz fix ...

I use Yahoo Basic Mail. When composing an e-mail, Yahoo has an "e-mail address autocomplete" function. As I begin to type an e-mail address in the To CC, or BCC boxes - if there are addresses in my Yahoo Contact list with the same string of characters, a drop down box appears and I can click on the desired address and it populates the To, CC, or BCC box. This is an extremely convenient feature.
And, it works with IE 8. BUT, this feature DOES NOT work with FF 30.
Obviously, this is a problem with FF 30 - can you plz advise as how to correct the problem?
FYI: Java plug-in is always activated and JavaScript is default enabled in FF 30 on my PC.

  • Moving from Entourage to Mail/Address Book

Hi, I am currently using Entourage 2004 where I have my Mac account and two other email accounts syncing. I was interested in using Apple Mail, Address Book and iCal instead. Is there a way to export my email history within all of the folders and subfolders to Mail from Entourage? Likewise, can I bring in the contacts list and calendar in Entourage to the Address Book and iCal?
    Thanks.

BDAqua, I have one IMAP and two POP accounts. So as you may know, Entourage splits the two different eMail configs into two separate folder trees. Will Mail, bring in bother folder systems?

  • Problem in Apple Mail

I use a MacBook Pro with OS 10.7.5, and Mail 5.3, but the problem does not seem to be restricted to this set-up. So I'm not sure that this is the best community for my question.
Since 20th March 1200hrs gmt I no longer get posts from 2 forums I subscribe to. I know 4 other Apple users with exactly the same problem - different OS and different service providers so problem seems to be within Apple Mail. I can go onto the forum sites and see mails that I should have received by eMail, but no longer get them. I travel a lot and it is much better for me to get the posts by eMail rather than having to go to the forums - I've never had any similar problem before, and the forums admin cannot find any problem their end.
    Any advice please?

A little more on this problem. Some other members on the same forum receive posts OK on an Apple device such as iPad, and the problem seems to be only for members with an Apple mail address mac.com, me.com or icloud. There was a suggestion that the forum has been blacklisted for some reason. Can anyone say how to correct this?

  • HT4865 mail address faking

Someone received a mail with my address. Apparently apple mail addresses can be enveloped and sent to look like it is from the owner. Any help how to avoid that? Is apple mail not secure to be used for business?

Any email can be sent from spammers to appear as to have come from a legitimate account.
Nothing anyone can do about it.

  • How can I get Apple Mail to show recipient's full name AND email address

    In Apple Mail v 6.3 (1503):
I am sending an email to a recipient listed in my Contacts. The recipient has 3 or more email addresses listed in Contacts. I want to send the email to some or all of the addresses.
As I start typing the guys name, the autocomplete feature gives me choices - ie.:  In the TO: field and I select the first one, then the 2nd and so on.
However, what gets displayed in the TO: Box is this:
    Bill Clinton <[email protected]>
    Bill Clinton
    Bill Clinton
    Bill Clinton
So, it is not displaying the address between the <       >.
so how can I get all three addresses to display like the first one which shows both the name of the guy (as listed in contacts "FIRST" "LAST") and then the actual email address).
For example I'd like it to show:
    Bill Clinton <[email protected]>
    Bill Clinton <[email protected]>
    Bill Clinton <[email protected]
    Bill Clinton <[email protected]>
Any direction in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not at my Mac to check, but try turning off Smart Addresses in the Viewing tab of Mail's Preferences.

  • How do I 'disasscociate' an e-mail address from an existing Apple ID so that that e-mail can be used to create a new separate Apple ID

My wife and I currently share an Apple ID (it's a long story). The Apple ID we use is actually mine and uses my e-mail address as the ID itself. I have been trying to create a new Apple ID for my wife but everytime I get an error message that states: 'that e-mail is already associated with another Apple ID.' What exactly do I have to do to remove her e-mail from being associated with my Apple ID so that I can create a new Apple ID for her?

Make sure her email address is not set as an alternate for your AppleID.
Then again, you don't know if it is associated with your AppleID.
Also, any chance she created an AppleID at one time and simply never used it/forgot about it?
Go here -> https://appleid.apple.com/ and select Forgot your password?
and enter her email address that shows it is in use.

  • I need to update my Apple ID to reflect my new e-mail address, but seem to have created a whole new Apple ID instead. Please help!

Hi- not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I'm hoping to merge my two Apple ID's, or at least get rid of the new one that isn't linked to either of my devices. I seem to have my old Apple ID, that is linked to my Iphone 4 and Mac Book Pro, Itunes etc. And my NEW Apple ID, with the correct e-mail address, that isn't linked to anything. I have tried to change my Apple ID by managing my account, but it won't let me change the e-mail address as the correct address is already being used. Please help, anyone!
    Thank you,
    Julie.

Hi Julie, I have the same issue (except to complicate matters even further the .me address I'd like to keep is an alias) and have spent over an hour on the 'Express Support' chat tonight; where I've been told that to date Apple will not merge two accounts and if you choose to delete one account, that .me address/ID will never be available again ... I did ask if this was something Apple were looking at changing, but was told:
"Once an @me.com email address is created once it is used forever. To create an account you would have to use an email address that would have never been used before. I wish there was a way for us to do that, however there is not. The only way to free up an @me.com email address would be if we recycled accounts and we currently are not doing that."
Crystal, the support technician, then went on to state:
"When you remove an alias from an account that permanently deletes it and makes it unable to be used again on that account it was deleted from or on another account."
followed (after my attempts at suggesting various work-arounds) by:
"Merging of Apple IDs is something that we are unable to do. There are a series of Apple Discussion Boards stating this as other customers discuss not be able to merge their IDs also. If you click on Frequently asked questions at this link, it also states that we cannot merge IDs: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895"
Bless Crystal, she really did try to help, but this looks like an option we'll just have to wait for! Hope this makes sense ...
