Apple Mail and Aol Imap not getting along

I'm not a computer genius so I'm having a really hard time figuring this out and I hope someone out there can help me. I have the most current version of Leopard on my Macbook. I've always used my AOL Imap account on this computer and it's always worked just fine. The past few days, it's not working at all. When I try to send an email, it doesn't look like it's going to go through, then it goes to my outbox. But then I find out that the email actually did send. I am getting NO incoming mail whatsoever. But I'm getting it on my iphone just fine. I've changed my port number from 993 to 587 to see if that works, and it didn't. I've even completely deleted the aol imap account and then reset it up. Still didn't work. Please help.

    I am being prompted for the questions for my apple ID. I have put what I think are the answers and it is still not letting me purchase games from my account. I try to send the answers to my e-mail and I am not getting them.  I had account issues about a year ago where my id was spelled wrong. Could this be associated with that?

  • Apple Mail and Gmail IMAP

    With the iPhone coming to Verizon soon, I'd like to move back to Apple Mail from Gmail, but still want to keep Gmail as my source because my domain is setup with Google Apps but mostly because of the unparalleled spam filtering Gmail has. My problem is that even though I've configured Apple Mail exactly as Google recommends (shown below), I still have some issues.
    From the Mail menu, click Preferences > *Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors*
    Drafts:
    Store draft messages on the server > *do NOT check*
    Sent:
    Store sent messages on the server > *do NOT check*
    Junk:
    Store junk messages on the server > checked
    Delete junk messages when > Never
    Trash:
    Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox > *do NOT check*
    Store deleted messages on the server > *do NOT check*
    I want to have true IMAP functionality here, but I'm not getting it. Sent messages work fine...if I send a message, it shows up in Apple Mail in the Sent folder and when I go to Gmail it is also in the Sent folder. BUT...when I delete a message in Apple Mail it goes to the Gmail *All Mail* folder (in Apple Mail and Gmail) and never shows up in the Gmail Trash on either Apple Mail or Gmail...where it should. I've tried changing the settings under *Apple Mail > Trash* but that doesn't fix the problem.
    I realize some of you might be inclined to say "It's Google problem...ask there" but I'm hoping a Gmail user here might have had this same issue before. Even as a dedicated Apple person for many years, I still can't give up Gmail and their spam filtering that Apple Mail can't come close to. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Thanks, Andy. I should have posted a closure statement on this thread as I finally figured everything out. The most frustrating thing is Google's own advice at http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892# couldn't further from correct. After many hours of experimenting with settings, I finally came up with the correct ones. In fact, I'm in the process of writing an article about it since there is simply no definitive guidance on the web that I've been able to find in the time I've searched.
    Your comments are on target...everything on the *Behaviors Tab* needs to be checked (excepts Notes) and the *Delete when* settings must be set to Never. But there are a few other things that must be done, including some changes on Gmail Settings before Mail and Gmail will be perfectly synchronous. I'll post the entire solution on this forum when I finish the graphics.

  • Apple Mail and iPhone (IMAP)

    Hi all,
    I am collecting my mail via IMAP on my iPhone, when I turn my computer on, the emails come through as read or deleted, as you would expect, however, they are not placed within their usual folders, they usually are with the rules i have set up. Should this be happening, if so, any way round it?
    Thanks

    Your post above, implies more that you have some rules setup in Apple Mail to automatically move messages from your inbox to specific folders.
    If my interpretation is correct, then the reason messages on the iPhone are not ending up in those folders is simple, it is because those rules only get run by Apple Mail on your computer and do not get run on the iPhone.
    What you could consider as a future solution is that some mail servers have the ability to let you define similar rules to be run on the mail server itself. MS Exchange I believe can do this, and Apple's Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Server will also be able to do this. Such server based rules will only be able to move messages to IMAP folder (i.e. ones stored on the mail server) not to local Apple Mail folders.

  • Apple mail and AOL

    This started today. I cannot send e-mail from my Apple Mail app to anyone with an AOL e-mail address. I get the following:
    SMTP error from remote mailer after end of data:
    host mailin-03.mx.aol.com [64.12.138.120]: 554-:
    (ISP:B2) http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554ispb2.html
    554 TRANSACTION FAILED
    I use earthlink.

    This has nothing to do with the Mail.app.
    Per the link included with the return error message.
    Error 554 ISP:B2
    554 ISP:B2
    http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554ispb2.html
    EXPLANATION:
    The IP address on your ISP's network has generated a high volume of mail to AOL and has exceeded our rate limit. Possible causes include a compromised or virus-infected personal computer or a non-disclosed server relaying mail within the ISP’s network.
    SOLUTION:
    Please contact your ISP for assistance in securing your computer or have them Contact AOL to alert us to the addition of this mail relay.
    If you need additional information please Contact Us.
    Since it is doubtful your Mac is either compromised or virus infected, I suggest you contact Earthlink first assuming Earthlink is your ISP used for connecting to the internet.

  • Mac Mail and AOL IMAP

    Recently it seems that my Mac mail program cannot connect to the AOL Imap server.  When I do the connectivity test in mail, the little ball is red.  Has anyone else noticed this?
    Before you tell me to go ask AOL, I have already scoured the AOL help sites, and as of yet have not found an official AOL forum, which is why I am posting this here, as it is also a Mac related issue.

    Please verify that you are adhering to these settings.

  • GMAIL ON APPLE MAIL AND IPHONE - IMAP VS. POP

    I used to have an email with my internet service provider. I switched to Verizon FiOs and needed to switch every website and contact to the new email. Its a pain. I decided to just get a Gmail account so I don't ever have to switch again.
    Anyway, with the Cox account, I used to check my email on the iPhone or on my iMac. I could get an email, delete it, and then check my email on the computer hours later and it downloaded again (for editing word documents, etc.).
    When I switched to Gmail, I configured Apple Mail by letting it automatically configure the account. On the iPhone, I used the Gmail automatic setup in Settings>Mail. I sent a couple of emails to the address to test it. Most all of them came to the iPhone but only some were there later on the iMac. I read online about the IMAP and POP settings but I don't really understand the differences or benefits.
    Basically, in the end I want to be able to check my email on the go and delete them on my iPhone but later go home and check again to have them all there. Which settings do I need to have on the gmail server, the phone, and the computer to make this happen?
    Also, is there any way to delete the annoying extra folders and "All Mail" system on the Gmail server and just use the inbox.
    Thanks in advanced

    Use "recent mode" on Gmail for both devices. That solves the problem. Only issue is that will cause all the emails of the past month to re-download to all your devices, so you'll end up re-deleting a huge pile of mail. But once that's done-with, all your devices can all access the mail fresh from now on.
    Look for instructions in Gmail help. Basically it means adding the text "recent:" to your POP login info, as in recent:[email protected] instead of just [email protected]

  • Gmail and Mavericks are not getting along.

    Gmail used to work so nicely with iMail, but ever since the upgrade to Mavericks, things started going all screwy. I know that Apple released an update for the problem, but that hasn't worked.
    I checked for other software updates and there are no new ones. Everything is up to date.
    I have been able to zero in on the problem: Incoming emails are not an issue. They show up on all devices. I if open an email on Mail and delete it, it syncs with the other devices as well.
    The problem stems from what I do if the email is opened or deleted on a different device. Thats when Mail on the Mac won’t sync. It will still show the email with the blue icon showing it’s new and unopened, and it will stay in the inbox even if I sent it to trash anywhere else.
    Has anyone else run in to this problem, and if so, have you been able to fix it?
    All help is appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Its really depends what kind of computer your using, is it old? If you are using a PC, in some cases it really does matter which port you plug your ipod into. Try every port (cept for back ones).
    Its weird because people usually see this when they Jailbreak their ipod and try to upgrade it, you get bricked by the new software which supposedly locks hacked components of the ipod, but since its happening to your nano too, then its either itunes or its the computer.
    If you are on a PC look in my computer and see if your ipod comes up when you plug it in. It should just come up in the window for a miminal amount of time. If it does then its your itunes.
    What kind of question is that? always download new versions! they can contain vital information for your ipod.

  • We just added a new iPad Air to our family of 4 apple devices and I can not get it to join the automatic Photo Share with the other 3 devices. What have I overlooked in set up?

    I added an iPad Air to our family of Apple devices a few weeks back and can not get it to participate in the auto Photo Share with the other 3 devices. My Mac, iPhone and first generation iPad share but the new device does not. ITunes sees all 4 devices but I can not get the new iPad and other 3 to share.
    Any ideas what I may have overlooked in setup? Thanks!

  • Keychain and gpg-agent not getting along

    I have a problem with gpg-agent. I have been using the Funtoo keychain tool for a while, for my SSH keys exclusively. Works flawlessly - I log in, I call keychain, I type in my passphrases, and it caches my keys. Never get prompted for a passphrase during SSH connection attempts.
    GPG is a different story. I have a GPG key, and I occasionally en- and decrypt files with it. So far so good. I also found out how to get keychain to cache the GPG key. It also picks up my gpg-agent, which is started as per the wiki entry (except that instead of putting it systemwide in /etc/profile.d, I put it in Openbox's ~/.config/openbox/environment file, which is where the SSH agent stuff is supposed to go as well.
    Gpg-agent seemingly launches fine, it exports its environment variables just fine:
    $ echo $GPG_AGENT_INFO
    /tmp/gpg-3faT29/S.gpg-agent:2352:1
    $ cat .gnupg/gpg-agent.env
    GPG_AGENT_INFO=/tmp/gpg-3faT29/S.gpg-agent:2352:1
    There's only one gpg-agent process running:
    $ ps aux|grep gpg-agent
    luser 2352 0.0 0.0 16252 1184 ? Ss 00:00 0:00 gpg-agent --daemon --write-env-file /home/stijn/.gnupg/gpg-agent.env
    luser 3411 0.0 0.0 9276 1016 pts/0 S+ 00:16 0:00 grep gpg-agent
    Keychain picks that up as well:
    $ keychain --eval
    * keychain 2.7.1 ~ http://www.funtoo.org
    * Found existing ssh-agent: 2346
    SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-YhDgORoL2345/agent.2345; export SSH_AUTH_SOCK;
    SSH_AGENT_PID=2346; export SSH_AGENT_PID;
    * Found existing gpg-agent: 2352
    GPG_AGENT_INFO=/tmp/gpg-3faT29/S.gpg-agent:2352:1; export GPG_AGENT_INFO;
    * Known ssh key: /home/stijn/.ssh/id_rsa-amalthea
    * Known ssh key: /home/stijn/.ssh/id_rsa-athena
    * Known ssh key: /home/stijn/.ssh/id_rsa-zeus
    * Known ssh key: /home/stijn/.ssh/id_rsa-mnemosyne
    * Known gpg key: [8 digit hex key]
    However, when I open Mutt (or just try to decrypt about any GPG encrypted file), it will prompt me for the passphrase, despite the key already being cached. Passing --use-agent does not help (I also set that in ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf).
    The bizarre thing being, of course, that the keychain-cached key did not get picked up, but if I enter my passphrase into the prompt I get the first time I call gpg, it does seem to get cached - I can open mutt, decrypt files, etc., it will all use that cached key.
    Any tips? I get the feeling I'm missing something, but couldn't find what exactly.

    Gpg-agent by itself works fine, although I get the feeling that, a bit like sudo, there's an expiration date on the cached key - it seems I need to type the passphrase again after a few hours or so.
    Either way, I'd love to get this working with keychain.

  • HT1212 I received a replacement iphone for one that went bad and I think I have everything set up ok, except that on my mail account on the screen it is registering 373 pieces of mail and I can not get it to go away.  There isn't any mail in the email acc

    I had an iphone that would not work and they sent me a replacement.  I have everything set up the same as my last one except that now on the screen it registers 373 on the mail button.  I don't have any mail in my mail box.  Everything is cleaned out but it still registers 373 on the front of my phone.  How do I get this to go back to normal?

    If your email account offers a webmail access, I suggest checking the webmail - log in to your account using the webmail access, and I predict you will see all those "unread" emails there and can dispose of them from there.
    This happens because the iPhone that went bad, when reading those emails, did not remove them from your email provider's servier.

  • Macs and USB Devices Not Getting Along

    I am posting this incase I'm not the only one.
    I have noticed this issue with my Intel iMac as well as my PPC iMac
    Both are running the latest versions of OSX 10.4.9
    This is regarding USB connectivity and the effect connected devices have on the system.
    USB Setup
    1 7 Port usb hub
    1 Palm Dock Connected via hub
    1 iPod Dock Connected to 2nd USB Port on iMac
    1 ScanSnap connected via hub - POWER OFF
    Bluetooth Apple Mouse & Keyboard
    1 TomTom 910 connected via hub - Connected to dock but power is off.
    1 Canon IP90 Connects via Bluetooth - POWER OFF
    This is what happens.
    If one of the following usb devices is connected, boot times can be extended with the system "pausing" at the Gray screen before Gray Apple Logo appears.
    iPod
    Palm TX
    Once the OS boots Missing Sync's Menu Bar status application will not load, will have to manual load app.
    If I disconnect these devices and reboot boot time is normal with no "pause" and missing sync loads normally.
    Also i Have noticed my Apple keyboard will take longer to pair during boot with or without these devices connected.
    iMac will not power down as scheduled with these usb devices connected if the system falls asleep with them connected.
    Normally the iMac will wake itself up at 11pm to shut down. If my iPod or Palm is connected it will not. It will only shut down via schedule if it is awake when scheduled time is reached.
    iMac G5 2 Ghz 1.5 Ram 400 Gig HD & iBook G4 1.33 12   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    So just an updated to my original post. I have been working with tech support for Missing Sync. There is a known issue with a menu bar application that comes with their software. It seems when more than 1 or 2 usb devices are connected this menu bar app doesn't load correctly... or at all.
    According to them.. one of their techs actually spoke with a Apple Engineer at WWDC this week regarding the issue. According to this Apple Engineer there is a known issue with OS X and USB handling. Apparently the OS can "freak out" if certain devices are connected during boot.
    No other specifics where given, and who knows if this is Missing Syncs attempt at shelling off responsibility to Apple. However, I am inclined to believe it as I have noticed that my iMac Intel or PowerPC will take a significantly longer time booting if my iPod or Palm Pilot is docked during boot. I've also noticed I can't reset my PRAM when these devices are connected.
    I hope apply addresses these issues, seems kinda crazy its gotten this far being that USB devices are the primary method for expanding your Mac's abilities.
