Apple Mail App Doesn't Close When Quit Button Is Pressed
My apple mail application on my iMac Running Mountain Lion is responding extremely slow and doesn't close when I press the quit button.
I have to use force quit to close the mail application.
Also the mail appliation stops spontanuously and a crash report is generated which I send to apple.
Problem exist now for about 3 weeks.
I have 4 email boxes (icloud using imap; and 3 pop3)
Rebuilding my mailboxes didn't solve the problem
Hope someone has a sollution.
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Apple mail.app doesn't work after joining google+
I use apple's mail.app to manage my multiple emails. on my main personal gmail i joined google+. ever since joining google+, mail.app no longer imports any email from that account. i can still send email through mail.app but no new received emails import into mail.app
any help resolving this issue?I found some solutions I find unacceptable in this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1596183&tstart=0
For some people just restarting the phone seems to fix it. For others they have to do a complete factory reset and set up the phone as a new phone it appears as if something is corrupted in the backup, so restoing from backup will bring back the same issue.
This stinks because it means that you lose all your backed up information (except calendar and contacts, which are stored separately)
I'm still looking for an alternate solution. -
Flash animation sound doesn't stop when next button is pressed
I am having trouble with getting sound to stop in an embedded
Flash file when pressing the Next button in Captivate's playback
control.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I will need to do to
correct this problem?Hi Sherryg08
It might be because the sound is part of the animation itself
and Captivate cannot control what happens in an animation , but
merely when the animation should appear and for how long it is
displayed. I would suggest removing sound from the animation and
building it into the slide itself as you would then have more
control over that element from a Captivate point of view.

GMail is not working with Apple Mail App: Login correct, says "no e-mails"?
HI everyone,
I just switched from my iPhone 5 to a new iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.1.2. After I put the latest backup to the new device everything was set up fine. Unfortunately Google Mail doesn't work with the Apple Mail App any more.
I have two factor identification switched on and use the 16 digit long password which I set up with my Google account. The configuration details work (login, password, server details), the account is accepted, no notifications tell me that anything is wrong. The thing is, that the Apple Mail App doesn't show any mails. Also it's impossible to send any emails. The strange thing is, that the GMail App works fine.
I really tried everything: deleted the account setup, changed mail server from m.google.com to smtp.google.com, set up a new app specific password through two factor identification... no emails appear!
With my iPhone 5 I was a lucky user of push email, thanks to Microsoft ActiveSync. So I keep trying to configure the GMail account as an Exchange account (I know that Google switched off ActiveSync some time ago, until now everything worked fine with my iPhone 5, even push mail worked!).
Does anyone of you know how to solve the problem? I don't like the GMail App and really prefer using the iOS Mail App..
Thanks in advance!RTom90 wrote:

Every time I try to open my mail app, it just closes out by itself. The icon of it isn't the mail anymore. Can anyone help me set this up again?

Apple Mail with OSX 10.9.5 quits on launch when mail window opens. May be related to install of Security update 2014-005. Any suggestions on fixing this?

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

HELP!! My Apple "MAIL" app. unexpectedly quits each time I open it.
My Apple "MAIL" app. unexpectedly quits each time I open it.
It will begin to load my mail, show the mailboxes and new e-mails and then all of a sudden quit.
I searched some of the Apple support and forums and have tried these things:
1. I trashed the "com.apple.mail.plist" preference file in the pref. folder.
2. I did an archieve install with Tiger OSX on my entire System Folder.
3. I erased my user>library>"mail folder"
4. I tried holding the shift key upon opening the program as suggested here but to no avail: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=479497&tstart=0
This has not resolved the problem. The program still quits every time I open it.

If this is the result of having deleted the *.emlx files manually, you're probably seeing this error message because there is still a reference to them in Envelope Index.
Is there anyway to tell Mail to re-download these
mail files and reconnect them?
If they're still on the server, yes. Choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window to open the Account Info window -- type "Account Info" in the search field of Mail Help for more information on this feature. Now, choose the account that has the problem from the Account popup menu at the top of the window. Does Mail display there the messages that are missing? What type of account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? -
When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts. They are unable to download the file as the size sent. We have tested this in multiple gmail accounts and we have tried sending as different sizes and actual size with no difference. Other photos attached in other ways come through fine. This seems to be a a result of the recent iphotos to photos app update.
Please advise on if this is a bug with how mail is ending the photos or how gmail is receiving them.Try using Mail as the email client for iPhoto and see if that will fix the problem:

Just noticed that when I close my mail app by double clicking the home button and swiping up it dies something weird. After doing this when I open my mail, instead of showing all my mailboxes it automatically opens one of them instead. Anyone know why?
Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app. I am certain other applications also need this information. Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information. Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them. Thank you!
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

How do I fully delete an email account from my Apple Mail app on my iMac?
Hello all,
How do I fully delete an email account from my Apple Mail app on my iMac?
When I go here: Mail > Preferences Mail > Accounts
I got the message that I needed to delete it from my Internet Accounts.
When I go here: System Preferences > Internet Accounts > select the account >
I cannot select or click the minus sign on the bottom left to delete the account because it does not appear in the list.
Yet the email account still shows up in my email logs with errors that it cannot connect.
The email account no longer appears in the left column where all my email accounts are in Apple Mail as I have deleted that domain and no longer use it, so the email was deleted at the server level. However, again, the email account still shows up in my email logs with errors that it cannot connect.
This is driving me bananas!
Thank you for any help you can provide!
~ AngelaIf you haven't already done so, please quit and relaunch Mail. See whether the account goes away.

Apple Mail App won't work for Yahoo Mail
About two months ago I switched from using the Yahoo web interface for my Yahoo mail to using the Apple Mail App. (Yahoo changed their web interface and I didn't like the new one). The Apple mail app worked fine until 2 days ago. I couldn't get new mail or send mail. It appeared that mail could not connect to the Yahoo mail server. I killed mail and started it up, that didn't work. I took the account offline and then back online and that didn't work. When I tried to do things like delete mail that I had received before the problem started Mail appeared to hang and I had to Force Quit Mail. Finally I deleted the email account from mail and then tried to recreate it. Now I can't recreate the account via the normal mail process of creating an account.
I have a MacBook Pro which I bought about 4 months ago. I'm on OSX 10.9.1. I'm using Mail version 7.1 that came with the MacBook Pro.
So I am back to using the Yahoo web interface, that I really don't like. BTW my mail works fine on my iPhone.Well, Mail crashed. Then the WiFi I was using went down (I'm at a Texas State park and the power failed) and I switched to using my iPhone as a hot spot and it suddenly connected. Could the problem have been the Texas State Park router?

Are there any setting or some way to show notifications for new email without open Apple Mail app ?
You know , I am an OCD . I alway's close my Mail app and miss many important new emails .What I do is open the Mail.app, then click the red traffic light (upper left corner of the main Mail.app window) to close that window. The app itself will remain running and you will get updates - this helps keep the desktop tidy while while the mail app remains running. When an update is received, simply click the either the mail icon in your dock or go to the Mail.app menu and click Window > Message Viewer.

The Apple Mail app will occasionally throw out an error about being unable to use the SMTP server (GMail hosted). When this happens, mail is essentially useless. The 'Quit' option is grayed out in the menu and I have to go in via the terminal to get the PID and kill the app. This didn't happen when we were on Verizon email. I created GMail accounts for my family about a year back and it's been happening ever since - not often, but about once a month.
One theory I have: when I'm at work, I'll check our home GMail from the web interface. If my wife is at home checking email with the Apple app, I wonder if we are running into some kind of contention issue.
Anyone else seen this?
Thanks for your help.

I am using OS X version 10.9.2 (Maverick). The Apple Mail app is frozen and stuck on my dock. How do I remove it?!? The icon is active (light below) but I have quit the application. Also, I cannot open the application anymore either (I click to open, but nothing happens). Help!
I just tried trashing everything in the Mail package contents and restarting my Air. However, it says that Mail has cancelled restart and that I should try quitting Mail (which I have done, multiple times)..... Please help!

Yahoo mail sent through Mail app do not appear when login into Yahoo mail
Hi everybody,
I have a problem that annoying me very much. I've used Yahoomail for very long before I bought a MBA. For the first time I use Mac OSX, I try to use Mac mail combine with my old Yahoo mail. Actually, I have done the config. But anything I do with my Yahoo mail through Mail app can't appear when I login into original Yahoo mail. For example: I sent a Yahoo mail through Mac mail, it's shown that the mail was sent sucessfully, but when I try to login into Yahoo mail on Web, the sent mail doesn't exist. And the same happen when I do the opposite: the mail I sent on Yahoo mail doesn't exist on Mac mail. It's a big trouble if I use other lap and try to contact with someone. So is there any solution can fix it?
Many thanksI'm having the same problem, and the only help I ever seem to find suggested anywhere is "make sure its set up as an IMAP account"
BUT it is! Mail automaticly sets all yahoo accounts up as IMAP. So is this just a yahoo problem? Is there anyway to fix this?
For me the bigger issue isnt that I need to be able to check my e-mail through a web browser regulerly, but on my Iphone and Ipad the account, which is through the mail app, also dosnt show sent mail sent through the mac app.
I agree this makes mail on my mac totally usless.
