Apple Mail Archiving in Mavericks

Just updated to Mavericks. My 'Achive' mbox disappeared. Now, when selecting archive from drop down box in an email, the message disappears. Where did it go?
How can I restore my Arhived messages from before I updated to Mavericks?
Thanks.

Thanks but I stopped using google mail some time ago; too much spam & other BS. I'd still like to know how to get back all of my archived messages. I can restore them via Time Machine, but the Mail app. doesn't see the mbox at all.

  • How to import Apple Mail archive files in Outlook 2013?

I need to import Apple Mail archived files in Outlook 2013 on Windows, but every time I open the import wizard and reach the file selection step, I cannot select the archived file. It doesn't even show in the dialog box.
I don't know what the issue is. Is it the file size issue as the archive file is large (about 7 GB) or there is any other fault?

If both system are using the IMAP mail provider all you have to do is setup the connection to the mail server and all the emails and folders will be copied down to the windows computer. That is what IMAP is for. The mail stays on the server, and can be store
on the local computer also, and when you connect to the server with another device, computer, phone or pad, all the mail with folders gets copied to the other device.
But I think some of your mail was gotten using POP so it is not longer on the server.
Or you have emails in local folder only and they would be on the server. But you can create folder on the server in one mail program, or on the mail web interface and then copy those emails into those folder on the server byt copying them in one of the email
programs. Then when you log on with the other device all of them will be downloaded to the other device.
Other alternative:- You can find various solutions on having a google search
for your problem. Or you can have a look at the following link: Apple mail to Outlook Windows

  • Apple mail crashes after Mavericks update

My Apple mail crashes after Mavericks installation. There are also some other minor bugs that slow down the system but they are by and by adjusting, for example, the mouse took little time to ge tused to mavericks, but notw it is fine. Only issue is Apple mail.
    thanks
    ninetta

My initial enthusiasm about the account de- and reactivation actually waned quickly after I realized that I couldn't have all accounts active without crashing. Now I just discovered a new solution that seems to do the trick for me:
    *Delete Smart Mailboxes (e.g. "Today")
It seems Mail reindexes all the thousands of mails that you have in your folder and mail just breaks down if you have several bigger accounts.
After deleting smart mailboxes, Mail now works normal. So far...
Tip for those that haven't upgraded to Mavericks yet: delete the smart folders/mailboxes in Mail, and please report here whether you encountered issues or not.

  • Hello, I have trouble with apple Mail 7 in Maverick.

Hello! I have trouble with Apple Mail 7 in Maverick. I use account type = Exchange. The proble m is that I keep loosing email in my inbox and also in my sent box. They then have to be rebuilt, and because I have lots of emails in the server, it takes several days to rebuild. This never happened in the previous version of apple mail that I used (snow leopard). Any suggestions to fix this problem? Thanks

Cant get help with this issue on Apple Support, so I have to go to the Apple store to the Genius Bar to get assistance.  All the help issues are so technical in their jargon, that I cannot understand how to fix the issue.

  • Apple Mail (OS X Mavericks 10.9.1) and Gmail

I have 5 Gmail accounts set up for IMAP configurations and enabled on Apple Mail.  None of the 5 accounts in Apple Mail show the same folders as the accounts in Gmail itself.  All settings in Gmail are correct and all settings in Apple Mail appear to be correct.  I even went in to the Apple Store and the "Genius" new less about the Apple Mail app than I did (and I've only returned to Apple in the last 3 months.)
So how do I get my "Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts, All Mail, Spam, Trash and Archive" folders to all appear and stay where they are supposed to be?
And yes I have utilized the "rebuild" as well as completely deleting all accounts from Apple Mail and reinitiating them.
I have a MacBook Pro with Retina display and am running OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), and Apple Mail Version 7.2 (1874).  All of my updates are current.

You do know 10.9.2 is out, right? So, if you still have 10.9.1, you're not current on updates...
"So how do I get my "Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts, All Mail, Spam, Trash and Archive" folders to all appear and stay where they are supposed to be?"

So, attach a screenshot of what your Mail looks like.

  • Apple mail archivation

    Hi,
I switched from Windows to Mac and I am still dealing with archivation of my exchange account.
In outlook 2013 it's easy. I used archivation tool, so for example I set all mail older than 1.1.2014 want to archive. It moved to archive "account" below my exchange account with remaining the tree structure of my folders. It moved these e-mail, not just copied. Big advance is that all e-mails are stored in one file .pst which is easily backup and also when I want to join it to another computer, i just join this one file. All these e-mails are also accessable in outlook.
Is there some similar solution in Apple mail?

    Hello ondrafromczech,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
In Mail, you are able to create a mailbox, and choose the "on my Mac" location.  This will save the emails to the computer itself, rather than storing them on the mail server.  The article below explains the process of doing so on your Mac.

  • Apple Mail crashing after Mavericks install

Can someone please advise - ever since I upgraded to Mavericks mail crashes. I open Mail (I have 2 apple mail accounts) and it loads my messages. As soon as I click on a message the app crashes. I've sent numerous reports and have to log in through Chrome or Safari which is really really annoying. Please help!!!
Also I don't want to go into Terminal - it makes me nervous - so if anyone has any other tips it would be great. Apple please do an update on this.

I picked up this hint from a similar thread which provides for a little releif.  I have three accounts: iCloud, personal Time Warner POP, business IMAP.  If I only have iCloud active everything is great.  If I try to make an additional account active ( doesn't matter whether it's the POP account or the IMAP ), the Viewer Window in Mail will become unresponsive.  [ Keep in Mind that Mail is still running, but you can't see it because everything has locked up.  It's almost as if your were clicking on a screen shot.  However, you can tell that Mail is still running because the menu's are still working.]
If I activate both my POP and IMAP, everything is great - - - - as long as I don't activate the iCloud account.  Since I get my iCloud mail on both my iPad and iPhone, I can live without it being on my MacBook until Apple gets a fix out.  Obviously, my business IMAP is most crucial for me.
Here's the procedure:  QUIT Mail.  Open System Preferences and click on the "Internet Accounts" preference pane.  Next, select each email account on the list and either uncheck the "Mail" icon box, or uncheck the "Enable this account" box. Do this for each account.  Close System Preferences.
Next:  Launch Mail.  You will see what looks like a standard mail account without any content.  No worries.  Select the "Mail" menu and choose "Preferences".  Click on the "Accounts" tab.  Click on each account and check the "Enable this account" box.  You will see your content reload.  You won't see your iCloud account in the list.  If all you want is iCloud mail, then DO NOT activate any of the other accounts and instead go back to System Preferences/Internet Accounts and check the Mail icon box for iCloud.
I only have two non-iCloud accounts, so I don't know what will happen if you have 3 or more accounts.  Let us know what you find out.
I am functional for now.  Things seem to be stabile for the moment.  I will let you know if things change.

  • Server Data Deleted. Need to Import Apple Mail archive in Outlook 2011

I have accidently deleted all the emails on my Imap account while logging in through Outlook 2011 for mac. Luckily I have an email acrhive file of all the emails which I accessed earlier in Apple Mail. But these files cannot be imported in Outlook for mac for reasons I am not aware of.
Please suggest some alternative mehtods except importing the archive files via ImportExportTools in outlook for mac (as I have tried almost a million times).
    Thank you

It is possible to do this without external tools, but it is a tremendous faff. See
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macoutlook/import-ema il-from-mail-to-outlook-2011/5e858173-e1f4-4adc-99d7-253cc467169d?page=2 for details.
The easiest way, however, is to use Mail Exporter Pro https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mail-exporter-pro/id675131616?mt=12 which will convert the email for you from one format to the other, and comes with an excellent manual.
A third possibility is to connect Apple Mail to an email account via IMAP (this doesn’t have to be your usual account, you can just create a Gmail account for the purpose) . Copy all the messages into it and they will be uploaded. Then connect Outlook 2011 to the same account, via IMAP again, and let the messages download, then copy them to wherever you want to keep them and disconnect from that account. This is slow but preserves the attributes of your email (e.g. read/unead) better than any other method.

  • Apple mail in OSX Mavericks not saving preferences changes

Earlier today Apple Mail went buggy, refusing to send messages, displaying no email messages in any box, and hanging.  I deleted the com.apple.mail directory in an effort to salvage my email.  I got the email back, but now Apple Mail will not save changes made in preferences and will not allow me to reinstall MailTags.  I have no idea what is going on here.  Any help would be most welcome.

  • Problem with Apple Mail since OSX Mavericks

    Hello Folks,
since i've updated my mid-2012 iMac to OSX Mavericks, i have a problem with Apple Mail: When i start the Apple Mail, the program says that it could not connect to the icloud mail server, and that i should enter my icloud passwort. When i do this, everything works fine. But that annoys me, because it worked without any problem under OSX Mountain Lion.
Has anyone an idea what i can do to fix this?
    Regards,
    Alex

In the iCloud pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked Mail and check it again.

  • Apple Mail Archive - Best Practices

    Dear Fellow Apple Heads:
Does anyone have any best practices to archive mail so that I can backup an mbox file and remove the archived items from current use?

    Greetings,
There are two ways to do this, but since I don't really use 10.5.x I can't be sure of one of them. In Mail, there should be an option to Archive Mailbox somewhere, but I just don't know because I don't use it. The other way is just to copy the folder of the mailbox you're looking to archive onto your Desktop or wherever you want to save it.
The drawback is that if you want to open these messages again, you can't do it from Mail; you would have to double-click on each one to open it, and the message name doesn't tell you anything about who it's from or what it's about. There's at least one third-party mail archiving solution on the market, but I don't remember the name offhand.
The best option is to always have a current, bootable backup of your entire drive so you can restore your Mac to the way it was before the hard drive failed or that unexpected power outage causes a bunch of files to get corrupted or just disappear.

  • Apple Mail Archiving with Gmail

Hello... I use Gmail and I'm having an issue with the new Archive feature. When I click it, it creates a new [IMAP]Archive label. I'd rather it remove the label Inbox and move it to the All Mail folder like the Gmail interface. If I click the Trash icon, it, of course, moves the email to Trash, which will be deleted after 30 days.
On the iPhone/iPad, if you click the Archive button, the email moves to All Mail correctly and labels All Mail as Archive. This only does not work on Apple Mail.
Also, if I click on All Mail and choose "Use This Mailbox For" option, it doesn't have Archive as an option.
Any workarounds or fixes for this problem?

I think one way of doing it is going into settings, Accounts, then Mailbox Behaviors, then unchecking "move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox". When you click the Trash button, you will then be moved to the All Mail folder. Clicking on the Archive folder will create that new Label.

  • Apple Mail locks up since Maverick install

Has anyone else experienced Apple Mail failure since Maverick OS X?   It comes up and is deadly slow... often freezing.  I have had to download Thunderbird as an alternative until this problem is fixed.
If anyone knows a solution or workaround, would be most appreciated.

See if deleting the cache associated with Mail helps ..
Quit the Mail app if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.mail/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Try Mail.

  • Apple Mail, won't sort message on server

Apple Mail 7 on Mavericks, when I display my account's email messages  still stored on the ISP server (account information), it is no longer possible to sort them by categories (dimension, date, sender, etc.).
Previously it was possible: is it a bug or has been removed as a feature (very useful to delete old message from the server !!).

I'm not talking about the email messages stored locally on my computer.
It's not the main Mail window I'm talking about.
Let's see if I can make me clear.
The step to reproduce the problems are:
1- click on your account's INBOX incoming mail contextual menu
    2- select "account informations"
3- this will open the "account informations" window, showing all your email messages still archived on your ISP server (not only your local mail).
4- In this window it is no loger possible to order the mail messages by date, sender, dimenstion etc
    See short movie here:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8222823/Mail_account_info.mp4
BTW, you'll see in the movie that Mail messages are ordered (why?) by dimension.
What if I'd like to select and delete all the old message from 3 days ago?
