Apple mail - Ethernet - outgoing mail

I'm having issues with sending mail from my Apple Mail (Version 3.5).
Never had issues before, but flatmate just got rubbish Tiscali broadband equally rubbish (and mac unfriendly) router. Can't connect wireless-ly so am using an Ethernet cable. Internet works fine, as does receiving mail - just sending that is a problem.
I have tried changing the SMTP ports, tried using the tiscali account settings to set up another smtp server, but neither, nor in combination works.
can anyone help?

Hi there,
My guess would be that port 25 is blocked by your ISP... A good many of them do this on non-commercial accounts as an anti-spam/anti-virus measure.
I would suggest that you need to switch your sending mail server to smtp.tiscali.co.uk as this is probably configured to allow smtp connections that originate from one of their IP addresses.
One other thing to check is that SSL is not turned on for smtp... Choose edit server list from the popup and then click advanced... make sure that the port is 25, SSL is off and that no authentication is required.
Hope this helps - Anton

Is it possible to highlight text in Apple Mail for incoming mails and outgoing mails?

If you mean that you wish to highlight messages from certain people or domain names, then if you select Preferences under 'Mail' (top left hand corner next to the Apple logo when you're in the mail application) and then select the right hand icon marked 'rules', then click on Add Rule and hopefully the rest is fairly self explanatory.
    Best of luck

  • What is apple's incoming/outgoing mail server for iphone 4?

I am trying to setup receiving email from my apple email address on my iphone 4.
what is apple's incoming/outgoing mail server for iphone 4?  Thanks

    For a MobileMe account?
If so, this is not needed. Use the MobileMe account preset and the incoming and outgoing mail servers will be set up automatically.

  • Mail Intermittent Outgoing Mail Server

I have had issues with mac mail and my imap email account since upgrading to maverick's. My incoming mail is fine, but randomly when sending an emailI get this message:
The server “avery.zephyrstudio.com” cannot be contacted on the default ports.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
So these emails then sit in my outbox. Sometimes I quit mail, relaunch and all the messages in the outbox all fly out at once. Sometimes that does not fix it and I either reboot, or quit/launch again until they send.
Any idea what the issue is? I can send email using squirrel mail, and on my iphone when mac mail is doing this, so it appears to be a maverick's mac mail issue.
    Thanks

  • Problem Mail program & Outgoing Mail Server - Problem with Earthlink

I had Earthlink POP / SMTP ( In/Out ) Mail server and mac Mail set up when I pulled the power plug on PMG4 due to freeze up !
Now have no contents in mac Mail program In/Out/Sent/Draft on the PMG4 hardrive or the external Lacie brick back-up hardrive. I am told by Earthlink this is because I had the " don't save email copy on server " box checked in the Mail/Add account/Advanced section.
Any idea how I can retieve my email folders ?
Also cannot get rid of 6 account names listed erroneously under Mail/Preferences/Account/Accounts Information/outgoing mail server ! And yet there is only one account listed when the accounts button is pushed. This is making it impossible to connect to the earthlink server ! Earthlink says everythings fine on their end and I have the correct Server Port number entered ! Earthlink says it's a problem with macMail !
    Help !

This is no longer an issue

This is a user to user forum. You might want to contact Apple via their contact page. If you do so, you also might want to provide more details than you did here.

  • Using mail for outgoing mail only?

I am trying to set up mail with a work email that does not bring in mail, but I can send out using our email. We have a system in place at the moment where all emails come in through the front reception and then gets distributed internally depending on where it needs to go. I dont want to bypass this, but I do want to be able to send email and not have to use the webmail from our provider to do this.
I have tried leaving the "incoming server" blank, but it does not let me proceed without information there. Even tried making a fake one to see if that works, but it doesnt.
Any tips on how to do this? Is this even possible?
    Thanks

What SMTP do you wish to send with? If using the SMTP of your ISP, typically you can simply add the work email address as a second email address in a POP account provided by your ISP -- see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/9973.html
However, some SMTP such as that provided by Gmail will change the Reply To header to the Gmail address, and others such as that for MobileMe will not accept non-MobileMe from addresses. But the one from most ISPs will.
You can also set up an account manually, skipping the Account Setup Assistant, take the account Offline (and not include when checking for new mail), and it will still send, assuming you have a SMTP to use with it. To skip the account setup assistant, hold down the Option key when clicking the "+" to add an account. By this path Mail will not actually force the check connection to the Incoming Server

  • Junk Mail and Outgoing Mail Folders

Hello. I'm having trouble getting the Junk Mail folder to appear in the Mailbox pane. Can anyone offer any help on how to get these two mailboxes to appear in their original form? I know I can create folders myself, but there should be a way to get these original folders to appear with the icons. Thank you.

What's happening is that Mail 2.0 behaves differently in this regard. Outbox is not shown unless there are sent messages that cannot be delivered. Mail would put them in Outbox, waiting for an opportunity to be sent. If sent, Outbox will disappear again the next time you launch Mail. It's probably similar for Junk, it's not shown until there's actually something in there, I'm not sure.
The Junk icon you see in the Toolbar is not a mailbox. It's for manually marking mail as junk. You can see what a toolbar button does by hovering the mouse over it and waiting for a tooltip to appear.
    HTH.

  • Outgoing Mail Server from Network Location

If there a way to set Mail's 'Outgoing Mail Server' based on the currently selected 'Network Location'?
In my case, my home ISP blocks port 25 so I need to pass mac.com mail through the ISP. Then, when at work, my home ISP won't accept SMTP from my work address so I end up using mail.mac.com directly. I'd like the switch to occur based on my changing of the 'Network Location'

If there a way to set Mail's 'Outgoing Mail Server' based on the

  • OS X Server 3 outgoing mail relay no longer supports a specific port

Just installed OS X Server 3 on Mavericks. All is well, but for some reason it does not allow adding a specific port for "Outgoing mail relay: mailout.isp.com:587"
OS X Server 2 used to allow this and i used it to connect to my smtp relay from my isp. It does not allow port 25 connections. If you try this in OS X Server 3 it just complains with "bad formatting"
    Can anyone confirm this?

    Found another thread discussing this.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23544605#23544605
    Answer from there:
You need to edit the postfix main.cf file manually with your favorite text editor:
    sudo vi /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf
    find the line
    relayhost = host.example.com
    change it to
relayhost = host.example.com:587 (or some other port)
    then do a
    sudo postfix reload
    to reload postfix configuration files
    and
    sudo postsuper -r ALL
to retry sending the e-mails again.
NOTE: If you open OS X Server 3 app and go to Mail -> Relay outgoing mail through ISP -> Edit the Outgoing server address will show as BLANK, this is normal, just click cancel and leave it alone.

  • Apple Mail switching my outgoing mail from receipt e-mail to another e-mail within my accounts

    Hi ~
My Apple Mail account keeps switching outgoing mail accounts on me, nilly-willy. If a mail comes in under a particular address, i.e. [email protected] it will send a return e-mail from another address within my accounts, i.e. [email protected], EVEN if a) the account shown in the FROM line is the original [email protected]; and 2) my signature for that particular account shows in the e-mail.  It seems to happen only with the 5 G-mail accounts synched into the mail program, and not with a business address with a different server.
Any suggestions to fix this particularly pesky problem?

I have something similar.  I have 4 email accounts one being Gmail.  No matter what account receives the email the replay is automatically directed to the Gmail account.  There have been some discussions out there about problems with Gmail accounts.  This may be connected to problems.

  • I've recently switched routers on my iMac. The set-up appeared to go well, and my incoming mail is working, but my outgoing mail is not. I spent a long time sorting out the problem with my provider, who told me the problem is on the "Apple side".

I've recently switched routers on my iMac. The set-up seemed to go well, and the incoming mail works. The outgoing mail is the issue - it sits in the outbox buffering and doesn't send. After several calls to my service provider they decided the issue was on the "Apple side" since my internet connection seemed to be working fine, and all input information was correct - ports selected, etc. Any ideas what to try next?

Open Keychain in Utilites and delete all the "outgoing" entries (will probably be smtp.<your ISP name>.net). Then go into Mail Preferences>Accounts, clear out any passwords for the outgoing. Can't say exactly where this is or what this looks like in 10.7, since I'm running 10.6. Then enter new (EDIT: or can be the same old ones) passwords, or password. Allow Keychain to save those new ones.
FWIW, here's what this looks like in mine.

  • HT1277 Configuring only outgoing mail (not incoming) in Apple Mail

I am using Gmail (IMAP) in Apple Mail (version 6.2) on my iMac. I am trying to configure my Mail settings so that it does not download incoming emails onto my iMac, rather only allows me to send outgoing email. Any ideas?

    AceNeerav: to avoid potential confusion...
...Microsoft Outlook Express is a rather different application from Apple Mail.app tool, beyond both being email clients.  While the basic functions are similar, the user interfaces are different.
...IMAP connects the mail client to the server for listing folders and for receiving mail; IMAP is the receive path for messages, from mail server to mail client.  IMAP does not provide outbound connection; that's provided by the SMTP or ESMTP server; SMTP is the send path, from mail client to mail server.
If you have a particular question about Outlook Express or Apple Mail.app tools, please link to it.  (I don't see any related links in your recent profile.)
