Apple mail font changes with mail encoding

Apple mail will change the font automatically with the encoding of the message.
This might not be shown on Apple Mail, but it does when recieved in Microsoft Ouotlook / Windows.
When I send in Western Latin 1. font is Calibri
Switch the mail encoding to UTF-8, Font becomes Times new roman.
if mail encoding is DBCS like Big-5, it start to switch the big-5 default font on Windows and it's ugly.
This is serious, the change of fonts is very unprofessional.
And we can't ask everyone in the world ot switch to Apple mail, most of working system are still in Outlook...

Ok, on further research it doesn't seem to be as simple as I thought. It's hard for me to fully check now, as I've installed Universal Mailer, but it seems as if this might only apply to mail with a pre-formatted signature.
I've pasted the relevant part of the html from an affected email below. For obvious reasons I've replaced most of the text with asterisks, but as you'll see, some of the text (in italics) is in Verdana (in this case the first two lines), and some (in bold) isn't specified, and appears in whatever default font I choose. (I've added line breaks for clarity.)

    You have no control over the way a mail client displays the body of your message. If you want control, send a PDF or HTML attachment.

  • Apple Mail Font Issues with Outlook

    Have apple fixed this issue with fonts changing and appearing differntly when you send emails to users on Microsoft Outlook. Most of the forums have message posts from 2011 but 2 years on you would think the issue would be fixed.
    I have a whole team of computer illiterate staff and can't expect them to change the font format everytime they send an email. It looks so unprofessional sending emails out like this - next step is to switch to outlook for mac - any good feedback on this, I've heard if you have high volume emails working through gmail imap accounts that it just crashes all the time?
    Any help or plugins would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Kurt,
    Thank you for your response. I am fully aware of what you have just said, and I do follow this basic protocol. The 'gripe' is that it seems that when we setup our message font in preferences one is under the impression this is the font that will be sent out. I later discovered this is only my screen font, and when we compose an email this font (for instance Arial 12pt) is not tagged in the outgoing message. In-fact it is left blank, and the receivers mail will change it to a default such as times new roman. However this seems to create strange changes on the receivers end and sometimes the font can come out huge or varying, there is no consistency and the email looks ugly, As a business owner, my email is my letter head, and is a communicational face of my business.
    The issue could be easily resolved with an option for an Apple Mail user to set up what font they want their out going message to be in and for Apple Mail to actually tag that font in the message. Without the 'user' having to each time manually choose this font.
    I always use Arial 12pt for my out going message, but it's frustrating that I have to each time select my text and change the font and point size, (which means my screen message font has to be another font and size otherwise apple mail does not pick up the change). What I, and from what I can see many people, don't understand is most Mail Software (if not all), except Apple mail, don’t have this issue. And if I used a different mail app I can choose my out going font such as Arial 12pt, and the receiver will see the same font (obviously providing it's a websafe font), and I don't need to keep telling the programme to make it Arial every-time I compose a new message. This would save time.
    I know that this ‘gripe’ is not only myself, and that there is a large number of people out there also annoyed by this, and many Apple uses choose not to use Apple mail simply because of this reason. Which is a shame, because Apple mail in my opinion is the best mail app out there.
    I don't expect the programme to be perfect, but this is basic user experience and basic functionality, so why can't Apple correct it? All the amazing features in the world are worthless if the basics ‘user experience’ is not friendly.
    I really really hope Apple does something about it, or at least develop a plugin that we can download to sort it out for those of us who want to use mail as I have described.
    Attachment Tamer has sorted out the whole compatibility and friendliness of attachments, and I can set up how I want my attachments to work, I do it once and don't have to think about it again. I did have to pay for this function. But I should not have had to. this is not a feature I should have had to plugin, it should come standard with Mail, every other mail software does, so it is a user expectation... And the same goes for how we set up our fonts, in Rich Text, I should only need to set it up once and not think of it again, a general out going font should be a standard function.
    As I said, I do ‘put up with it’ mostly because I’m an Apple fan, and In general hugely happy with the Apple products. But should someone have to ‘put up’ with something like this, when it is something so small that should really have been sorted out years ago in the early versions of Mail?
    Sorry Kurt, I'm not really moaning at you directly, it's just that its a frustrating non-feature that I can see Apple is not even taking into consideration, and probably will never look at sort out. Why, is the question?

  • IPhoto export to Mail, font changes ?

    When exporting to Mail or adding via photo browser, I want to add captions. Only the first pic has my standard mail font of 18, all other pics go down to 12.5 unless I change font sizes with each picture. How to solve this? Regards, Duncan

    I get 12 point font regardless of what I set as the default or whether it's plain text or Rich Text. It's a moot question because the recipient will see whatever they have setup as the default font and size on their end.

  • Incoming mail fonts changed

    For some reason, all my incoming mail comes in with an Arial bold font that is very hard to read. The same thing has happened on random web pages (yahoo, google, amazon). Any ideas how this happened and how to change them back?
    Thanks,
    Jtk

    Were all received messages composed in HTML?
    With a received message open, at the menu bar go to View > Message and if Plan Text Alternative is an available selection, this indicates the message was composed in HTML. If available, select Plain Text Alternative and all text will be converted to the font you have chosen at Mail > Preferences > Fonts & Colors > Message Font.
    When a message is composed in HTML, the sender controls the formatting and the Mail.app does not include a preference setting to automatically convert all text composed in HTML to Plain Text for received messages.

  • Application Dialog fonts change with change in Themes....

    Hi
    In my Application, alongwith other items like frame and dialog titles, the dialog controls like labels and buttons also change with the change in font styles and sizes.
    Expected behaviour: The texts on the buttons and other controls of the dialogs should not change....
    Please suggest...??
    I am not explicitly setting any font sizes to the controls of the dialogs (only taking the default values assigned) , do i need to set them explicitly or is there any other solution,,,?

    You can't change the fonts.
    In preferences you can modify the darkness and lightness of the whole program. Go to Edit > Preferences > User Interface and move the brightness slider. You might find a spot where the text is easier to read.

  • Exchange 2007 mail account sync with Mail 4.0 does not happen

    I am setting up my work exchange 2007 mail account in Mail 4.4. The total size of mail box is ~ 200MB. Folders smaller than 10MB have synced properly and I can see the mails in these folders inside Mail.
    However, none of the mails inside folders >10MB are visible in Mail. Activity window in Mail does not indicate that a sync is going on. But I can see that Mail has correctly calculated the folder sizes on server and no. of messages on server (for every folder) in Account Info.
    I have waited close to 5hrs hoping that it is probably a slow first time sync, but I am not closer to seeing the mails in Mail.
    Any leads to solving this would help.
    Thanks

    I was having this problem as well with a different host's email account. I was able to get IMAP as an option by holding down the Option key. But then was unable to connect to the server to send/receive mail. Turning off SSL in two places worked:
    - Uncheck SSL from the SMTP server settings (click on the SMTP server name & select "Edit SMTP Server List to get to this setting); and
    - From the Advanced Options Tab. Also, in Advanced Options, you may need to change the port to 143 (it may be defaulted to 993 since SSL is the default.)

  • Attachments visible with internet mail, but not with Mail.app

    Others have written before about this question, but I don't find a satisfying answer (that would have to come from the Apple people themselves). I received emails that contained several attachments (pdf files), as visible from the size of the messages and the raw source, but only one or two of the attachments showed in the Mail application (version 4.5), and sometimes there was even no body text. I was puzzled and went to the web application of my provider to look at the same messages. EVERYTHING was there! so I decided to transfer the messages again to myself, and miraculously everything was there as well in Mail.app.
    Now, is this a weakness of Mail.app, a wrong use of attachments by the sender or what else? Anyway, it is annoying, because I wonder how many attachments I have never seen.
    Does anyone know of a solution, please?

    Okay, I found the answer if anyone is having the same problem. The Mail POP settings on the Mac for the various Accounts I had were outdated. They were just for Dial-Up. Here is the link for the entire ATT page that deals with High Speed and iPhone connections, and the part in particular that helped me get it going.

  • Mail adapter issue with mail attachment

    Hi all,
    I have a scenario mail to file and i have a problem.
    Is it possible, in a sender adapter mail to use the option keep attachment and mail package at the same time ?
    So,is it possible to use the module payloadswapbean and XMLanonymizer in a sender adapter mail in order to suppress a namespace from the attachment in it ?
    Is the option mail package useful if i am using payloadswapbean module ?
    from what i see, It seems that the XMLanonymizer doesn't work for sender mail adapter with attachment. I've tested the configuration on a sender adapter file and works fine.
    Anyone already tested it ?
    Thanks,
    Jean-Philippe

    Hi Stefen,
    Thanks for the answers.
    The question is, whether the payloadswapbean is useful at all in a sender mail scenario.
    I don't understand this one ! Isn't mandatory in sender adapter mail scenario if you want to read your mail attachment ?
    Yes. If you configure the payloadswapbean correct, the XMLanonymizer works on the attachment.
    It is not easy to set the payloadswapbean in a correct way. IPost your parameters here, when it does not work for you.
    Ok. Maybe my configuration is wrong, please tell.
    Processing sequence :
    localejbs/AF_Modules/PayloadSwapBean => 0
    localejbs/AF_Modules/XMLAnonymizerBean => 1
    sap.com/com.sap.aii.adapter.mail.app/XIMailAdapterBean =>mail
    module configuration :
    swap.keyName =>Content-Disposition
    swap.keyName => Content-Description
    swap.keyValue=>MailAttachment-1
    swap.keyValue=>attachment;filename="MailAttachment-1.xml"
    anonymizer.acceptNamespaces =>http://namespace ''
    anonymizer.quote => ''
    I am on PI 7.1 version and when i am looking in the monitoring(sxmb_moni), it doesn't seems working.

  • Outgoing Mail not working with Mail.app in 10.5.7

    I am helping my mom set up her email accounts on her new macbook laptop. It has 10.5.7
    I have tried setting up two different email accounts in mail.app, one is a roadrunner webmail account, and the other is a gmail account. For the roadrunner account, I followed their instructions, which can be seen here: http://help.rr.com/HMSFaqs/eOSXmail.aspx
    With the gmail account, mail.app was able to do the setup itself from the email address and password.
    I know that the account information is partially correct because with both the accounts they were able to correctly download email onto the computer into mail.app. But both accounts have not been able to successfully send an email.
    I can provide any other information about the settings used in the outgoing server or advanced information if it would be helpful.

    This is so strange. The exact same thing happened to me yesterday. Suddenly, on my Mac and my PC, I was no longer able to SEND email. I am able to receive email...just not send. I too am a Comcast customer. I contacted Comcast and they, of course, said the problem had to do with the servers that my email client is trying to access and that it had nothing to do with them. We then set up my Comcast.net email account (which I never use) and it worked fine (sending and receiving).
    So, I switched my other accounts to use Comcast's smtp server and that worked on the Mac only. I can now send email on my Mac but not on my PC.
    This leads me to believe that it is not something wrong with my email client (since I have the problem on both my Mac and PC) but instead, something is up with Comcast.
    I checked and it turns out that Comcast just implemented a new Acceptable Use Policy which specifically implements a NEW traffic management policy. This was JUST implemented this month. So, I am getting the sneaking suspicion that Comcast is somehow denying me access to those SMTP servers and I have to use their SMTP server instead.
    Does this make any sense to anyone???? I am at a total loss here.
    Thanks,
    Susan
