Apple Mail: IMAP mails automatically read!

I am experiencing a strange problem with Apple Mail. I have several IMAP accounts set up. Since a couple of weeks my incoming emails are automatically set to "read" by the app. Can anyone help? Eric Bartels

Check your Mail rules for "Mark as read" actions, and also check that the messages aren't being read on another client.

  • Apple Mail message read status doesn't change when read

In Apple Mail, when getting mail from an Exchange 2010 server on the corp LAN works great. However, on about 2 out of 10 messages, after I read the message it still has the "dot" showing it as unread and I have to manually select mark > as read. I even let it sit for a while thinking it has to sync but no luck. I still have to manually mark it. Very frustrating. Any ideas?

To clarify something else, the unread mail badge disappears off of the app in the tray as well as the inbox in the lefthand column. But the blue dot remains on the conversation thread.

  • Apple Mail Automatically Sending Emails Before I Hit Send

    Hi
I'm having a recurring problem with Apple Mail where emails are being sent by the program before I hit send, so addressee's are receiving half written/finished emails.
I have sync'd 2 x gmail accounts to my Apple Mail, and the same problem happens with each account. Does anyone know what to do to fix this as it's highly annoying!
    Thanks

Anyway, you may want to look at it.

  • Apple Mail automatically changing font size while typing

I've been using Apple Mail for about a month now and only just recently did it start exhibiting this unusual behavior where the font type and size of the entire message would change to something different while I was typing! Pressing CTRL+Z a couple times would revert the font to its intended size only to have it change back again a few keystrokes later. I noticed that it only happens when I type a word that contains an apostrophe (it's, David's, we're, isn't, we'll, etc.) and words that get auto-corrected. Going to MAIL | PREFERENCES and changing my Message Font does nothing as the font changes to something not set in Preferences.
Has anybody experienced this before? What did you do to fix it? Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    Chris

Thanks for the suggestion, Eric. Unfortunately, that didn't do the trick. This is happening on my iMac at home and, just for reassurance, I compared the mail settings side-by-side to my work MacBook (which does not have this issue) -- all settings are identical!

  • How do I use Apple Mail to read my aol mail?

When I click on mail, it askes me for the specifications for my aol account. I don't know all of them. Can anyone help me?

Aha! So, I misunderstood your situation slightly; now am I correct in thinking that you had all this old mail in a "Saved Mail" folder on AOL, and not just sitting in AOL's "Inbox" folder? If that's the case, then here's another suggestion you can try:
When you launch Mail, on the left-hand side of the Mail viewer, you've got Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash, .... do you have a grey globe with an "@" symbol in it, labeled as however you have named your AOL account in Preferences>Accounts>Description (in my case, I named mine "aim.com") with a little gray triangle to the left of it? If so, read on....
I just did a little experiment just now. When I clicked on that little gray triangle so it pointed downward, all my folders on the AOL/AIM imap server showed up. I selected one of those mailbox folders, and when I did, all the messages in there showed up in the message header viewer. I was then able to select all (⌘a) messages in one of those folders (in my case, "Sent" because I didn't have anything in my "Saved Mail" folder), and was able to drag&drop all of them into my Mail.app inbox. See if you can do that, and if that works for you. From there, I would think that you could create a child folder wherever you want, and move those messages into the newly created child folder.
    Good luck!

  • How does Apple Mail handle a full IMAP server?

I am using IMAP on my serverr with the Apple Mail application.  I would like to know what happens when the mail server gets full.  Am I supposed to monitor the amount of room, or does Apple Mail automatically archive the mail entries on my computer?
Also, if the server loses its mail, will Apple Mail retain the mail locally or should I create a archive folder to handle any server problems?
I was using a POP server before and never worried about this because the mail was always on my computer and if the POP server got full or lost mail, I would not lose anything I already received since it was stored locally.

The state of your server is your issue, if it fills up you won't be able to receive mail. Make a local folder (On Your Mac) and move old mail there.

  • Apple Mail and iPhone (IMAP)

    Hi all,
I am collecting my mail via IMAP on my iPhone, when I turn my computer on, the emails come through as read or deleted, as you would expect, however, they are not placed within their usual folders, they usually are with the rules i have set up. Should this be happening, if so, any way round it?
    Thanks

Your post above, implies more that you have some rules setup in Apple Mail to automatically move messages from your inbox to specific folders.
If my interpretation is correct, then the reason messages on the iPhone are not ending up in those folders is simple, it is because those rules only get run by Apple Mail on your computer and do not get run on the iPhone.
What you could consider as a future solution is that some mail servers have the ability to let you define similar rules to be run on the mail server itself. MS Exchange I believe can do this, and Apple's Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Server will also be able to do this. Such server based rules will only be able to move messages to IMAP folder (i.e. ones stored on the mail server) not to local Apple Mail folders.

  • Gmail & Apple Mail not playing nice via IMAP

Would like to get feedback from other users who are Gmail subscribers and use Apple Mail as their main application.
I have had good success with ML Apple Mail...Snow Leopard I preferred Sparrow.  Until recently I had no issues and everything was playing nicely.  However, in the last 2 or so weeks I have noticed odd behaviors between the two platforms.  What I noticed first was that mail that was read on my phone was still showing unread in Apple Mail.  A re-sync didn't solve it but a quit and restart of Mail did.  Hmmm.  Now I also notice that sometimes in deleting mail my whol folder for my Gmail account would show nothing and a restart of the program would fix that.
Yes, I did do quite a bit of searching on the internet.  I had deleted the account and restablished it...no fix...deleted library folder containing the mail data so it would rebuild...no fix.  So I thought maybe it was an issue with IMAP and Google.  I'm an apps user so I actually got a response from Google.  They have no fix other than telling me to use Thunderbird as "Due to the way in which Apple Mail is coded, we don't officialy support Apple Mail 5 or 6 as IMAP clients."  Huh?  Geez, I didn't have any issues before.
Oh, and yes, I have read How To's on setting up Apple Mail with Gmail.  Before using Sparrow on SL, I had used Apple Mail for quite some time.  So not new to using it with Gmail.
So I am wondering what others are experiencing and any fixes they might have if similar.  I don't like using the web interface and have gotten use to the flow of ML Apple Mail and like it.  I am trying Postbox and will also try Thunderbird (though the lack of program advancement is a bit of a negative).
    Thanks for any input.
    Mike

I noticed some views but no suggestions.  Is anyone else experiencing the issue of read Emails on phone still showing unread in Apple Mail?

  • Not all Google imap messages synching with my Apple mail

I've been using my MBP's Apple mail to access my Google imap mail for 3 or 4 years.  No problems until recently when, in Apple mail, I did searches for old e-mail messages and couldn't find them, but when I accessed a web browser to access my Google imap mail, my searches there were successful in finding the old e-mail messages.  My inference: not all of my Google imap mail messages are synching over to my MBP's Apple mail.
Any suggestions on what I might do to guarantee that my Google imap mail messages  synch over to my MBP's Apple mail?

I figured out a solution and it works.  Using a browser to access my Google mail, I marked as "unread" all mail for the previous 12 months.  As a result, my Apple mail uploaded/read of those e-mails again.  A pleasant surprise: in my Apple mail, these re-uploaded/read e-mails did not show up marked as new.  In my Apple mail now, I can find those previously missing old e-mails when I new search for them.  Caution: it took a long time (days) for the imap operations to do all of its behind-the-scenes tasks, like setting flags or caching attachments or doing something with directories, and so forth; however, all of this was invisible and my Apple mail was fully functional throughout.

  • How to Change Carrier for Package Tracking in Apple Mail 8?

When I receive a shipping confirmation email, Apple Mail automatically detects the tracking number and creates a hyperlink to USPS tracking. This is wonderfully convenient... if you live in the USA.
I live in Canada, so most of my packages are shipped with Canada Post. Naturally, USPS doesn't recognize the tracking number, so this feature is essentially useless. Is there any way I can change the carrier to Canada Post, or preferably to a universal tracker such as www.packagetrackr.com?
I was hoping Apple would address this with the release of Yosemite/Apple Mail 8, but I can't seem to find a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you're talking about the sender name (the name that appears on the From line when you send email), to change it on your Mac Mail, go to icloud.com, sign into your account, open Mail, click the gear shaped icon on the bottom left and choose Preferences, go to the Accounts tab and enter the name you want to use in the Full Name field and click Done.  Then quit Mail on your Mac (Command-Q) and re-open it.  Your new From name should now appear in the drop-down list when you compose a new email.

  • How do I keep my emails in Apple mail after they have been downloaded from exchange server

    Hi
I have an urgent issue with my work email. I have used Apple Mail to read and store my work email right off my work Exchange server - without any problem.
All was fine, and for what seems a very long time, I happily used both my win 7 laptop at work and my 2 Apple computers at home and during travel as well as my iPhone - anywhere.
However, now, there is a new policy at work where all email older than 3 months (sigh!!) has been removed to an "online archive" of the "emc SourceOne" - which is a non-crossplattform service - and not accessible from other than a windows PC with supported browser (not including SafarI). (Windows revenge) I have lost all access to these on my iPhone, which is a shame - not Apples fault, though. This is  not about blaming Apple.
However, I still have all my "older than 3 months" email in theory safely kept on both of my Apple computers - presumably safely stored in Apple Mail.
Here is my question: I have not dared to connect either of these imacs / mbas to Internet - at all - in fear of losing my precoius work emails. I have feared that the exchange server will kill all these "older than 3 months" email kept there - as soon as it gets a chance to do so.
So I urgently need an educated advise. Googling any kind of "apple" questions seems to be far less productive now than a few years ago...
    1. Can I safely connect Apple Mail to internet without losing my already downloaded exchange emails?
    2. If not - how should I proeceed to get these files safely transferred to my iCloud email?
Any and all help will be deeply appreciated!
Best regards, from a chilly evening in Oslo, Norway
    Vidar

When you connect your Mac back up to the Exchange server, it will “sync” what is on the server to your Mac, losing all those older emails. Don’t reconnect until you have moved them.
To move them, Drag them from the Exchange folders on Mail and into an iCloud folder. The emails will then be stored on iCloud instead of on the exchange server.
You could also just create mailboxes on your Mac and drag them into that. They wouldn’t be accessible to other devices, but you’d have them on your Mac.
To create new Mailboxes, Click the Add ( + ) button at the bottom of the Mailbox list and choose New Mailbox…
You can choose where that folder is stored, either under On My Mac for a local mailbox, or in your iCloud account which will make a folder on the iCloud server.
In the future, you need to start moving your emails to those independent mailboxes as you file them, and set up a rule that will move anything older than 50 days into a “catch-all” Mailbox you create on that same location (either On My Mac or iCloud). Mail Preferences, Rules.

  • Problems configuring/fixing GMail settings in Apple Mail

Almost never use GMail (and wonder why I have it but it seems like I have to have a GMail account now and then).
However, I have realized that the outgoing and incoming GMail connections aren't connected. I've been consulting GMail "help" all morning, checking and rechecking configurations and settings and I give up.

  • How to Forward Apple Mail

Can you tell me how to forward apple mail? I need a more powerful junk/spam screener that Yahoo.com provides....
    <E-mail Edited by Host>

    Not sure I understand correctly:
Apple Mail is a desktop email client; Yahoo is an online email service.
Is your problem that Apple Mail does not filter junk mail well enough? And you want to open your Apple Mail in Yahoo Mail?
Or are you currently getting your Yahoo mail forwarded to Apple Mail and opening it on Apple Mail?

  • Apple Mail recovery / rebuild

    Hi guys,
In desperate need of help here!
I've searched the internet pretty extensively but haven't found anything that solves the problem I'm having.
I was hoping to delete some RSS news feeds in my setup as they have been a nuisance to keep up with.
I thought I right clicked and deleted the rss feed, however on closer inspection when coming back to my computer later, I realised my whole inbox was gone and I must have had the wrong folder selected.
I checked the trash, undo etc. however they were pretty solidly deleted.
I resorted to Data Rescue 2 at first, however this only pulled up .mbox files which contained nothing like the amount of data I had deleted.
After a bit more research on the net, I understood that I needed to recover .emlx files which Data Rescue does not have the ability to do.
I switched to File Salvage, which after a good dozen hours or scanning, managed to recover approximately 10,000 .emlx files.
Looking at these files individually in TextWrangler, I can see that they are indeed the correct files, but obviously I need them back in Mail so that they're of use to be searched etc.
Now this is where the trouble starts...
I've tried to place these .emlx files back in the messages folder of the MBOX that I had emptied by mistake in the first place.
I've then selected to rebuild the mail box.
After a short time rebuilding, some messages become listed in the inbox, however they are completely blank. No subject, no content and no headers.
If I now go straight to the newly modified/updated .emlx files in the messages folder in the MBOX and open them up in TextWrangler, their content is as below for example (see bottom of post - it seems like it's only converted a few lines).
I really need to rebuild these emails properly as they contain all my company receipts and other typical important information for accounts etc. Really hoping someone on here might be able to help guide me please!
    Regards,
    Alan

I've managed to get somewhere with this, but really not the way I wanted.
As I've had no luck importing the emails to Apple Mail, I read an article saying that you could rename the .EMLX files to .EML files and drop them into Entourage.
Entourage has managed to read them okay. It's taking forever to drop them in, and the moment I'm doing them in batches of 1000 each. Probably about 20 mins per batch.
Ideally I'll find some way of exporting these when all done, and get them back into Apple Mail.
I have a feeling that the first two text lines in the email files I recovered were slightly corrupt.
In new .emlx files I've received, the top looks like this...
    25695
    X-Eon-Dm: dm0216
    Return-Path: <[email protected]>
    Received: from badger07001.apple.com (17.254.6.168 [17.254.6.168])
However in the recovered .emlx files, they look like this (with the first two lines slightly corrupt)...
    -Eon-Dm: dm0218
    Return-Path: <[email protected]>
    Received: from badger07001.apple.com (17.254.6.168 [17.254.6.168])
I have a feeling this is where Apple Mail may be failing to interperet the files and deciding they are blank.
If it's not this causing it, then maybe Mail is not coping rebuilding the message folder with the existing Mail preferences.
I'll try importing the messages to Apple Mail on a fresh new user account and see if that solves anything.
