  • Apple mail not working after upgrading to maverics

I installed maverics on my mac a couple months ago. I noticed that all of my accounts in apple mail  have not worked properly since. first of all, i cant tell if mail is retrieving my email anymore. there used to be a spiral next to the account letting me know that it was checking and now there is no indicator that it is working or not. many times my mail is delayed hours as I can see from the time that mail gets my email vs when my gmail or other account actually gets it.
sometimes apple mail says that the accounts are not connected to the internet but my wifi is fine. after trouble shooting the network settings i can get it to work but what a pain. Is there a way to reset my apple mail settings or my network settings to make apple mail work like it did before maverics? Please help. My mac info is below:
    osx 10.9.1
    processor: 2.5 ghz core i5
    memory: 4gb 1333 mhz ddr3
    mac hd
    any help is appreciated thanks

  • Mail thread in Apple mail not working after updating to Yosemite

I just upgraded to Yosemite a couple of days ago and I noticed that my mail threads are not working properly. Instead of having threads categorized by the subject line, I have thousands of emails in just ONE thread that are completely irrelevant to each other. I have deleted my email accounts completely and reinstalled them from scratch and they still have the same problem after my emails are dowloaded from my IMAP server. I have also tried to rebuild the email account and the same problem happens. I get around 700 - 800 emails a day so the thread function is extremely crucial for me to be able to track all of my emails, but there is no way to do it now when everything is bunched together.
Anyone else running into the same issue? I am using a third party host (Bluehost) as my hosting service, but this problem never came up on the previous operating systems or my IPHONE. Those still work just fine.
    Thanks

  • Apple Mail not working with Gmail IMAP

This is a slight re-working of a post of 27 March as I am being driven nuts having to use web mail.
I have used Mail with gMail for years. Last week I was abroad and I could only use the web interface as when I logged in from my MacBook via Mail the message pane was fine (and up to date though it did not open by default as usual) but if I opened any message all I got was 'Loading' followed by the spinning beach ball. I tried this for several days and always got the same result and assumed it was an (atypical) result of being abroad.
When I got home I found I had exactly the same problem on my iMac which was fine before I left home and as with my MB I have to force quit to get out of Mail.
I then when out and after a restart (not the first since the problem) that my MB was OK - but only briefly. My iMac is still stuffed as far as Mail is concerned.
Mail itself does not seem completely broken, for instance I can look at Previous recipients, I can send from Mail and it arrives back (but then I can’t open it). I can drag messages to the Bin, but they don’t seem to stay there. Oddly I have sent a lot of mail from the gMail interface today, but none of them show up in Apple Mail, tho earlier days do.
I do have a lot of messages in sent mail, nearly 6,000, and while I can understand it progressively slowing things down I don’t see that it would cause both machines to fail simultaneously and anyway I don’t want to delete them.
Any ideas? There are no error messages, Connection Doctor shows me as logged in, and I have not found anything via a Google search or in their discussions.
    Cheers, Colin

Opps, the * was an OCR error from the screen dump I did not notice.
plus.net is my ISP, but I don't use them for mail normally but I suspect once-upon-a-time I may have had a problem connecting with gMail's SMTP server, so set that up.
I'm actually running Mail 3 (I think the latest version for Leopard, incidentally gmail help is only up to v 2).
Rather than delete the other servers I have set it to only use smtp.gmail, but it still hangs on opening a message pane. Oddly even tho I get the beech ball I can still open prefs.
I can't help feeling the problem is with Mail itself (tho why on two machines at once is beyond me) as the normal behaviour is always to open with the Message pane, but it opens without a window; almost as soon as I open the Message pane it updates with gmail and deletes any message I have moved on the web side. So, only partly broken, but broken enough to be useless!
    Cheers, Colin

  • Apple Mail not working with IMAP account

I have been using Entourage for my email with several IMAP email accounts. SOme of the accounts I was getting occasional errors so I thought I would try Apple Mail.
I am able to successfully set up the accounts in Mail (i.e. it successfully logs into server) however it does not get any of the mail nor does it get any of the mail folders that are on the IMAP server (viewing email using Web Mail or even going back to Entourage shows the emails on the account). Are there any special (hidden) tricks that I need to do to get Mail to work with a standard IMAP mail server?

I have a very similar problem. Apparently IMAP access is better than POP3. Well IMAP slows my Mac to a complete stop whereas POP3 is seamless. I deleted my POP3 mailboxes after successfully accessing my GMail accounts via IMAP, then it slowed down.
I've deleted the IMAP accounts a few times, but each time a new account is created it forces me to accept IMAP with no option for POP3. The help file also contains no information on POP3.
I get about 50 emails everyday and my usual point of email access has just become redundant, I must now rely on email via my browser and .
I made this change because the iPhone does not sync downloaded emails with Apple Mail. In Mail on my Mac, the one GMail inbox I have setup says there are 11 unread which it eventually shows yet none appear unread. I'll have to rely on web-based email until this is resolved.
Can anyone help with these IMAP access problems?

  • New Verizon pop server, Apple Mail not working

    Hi...
I got the email about the new pop server in the spring and gave it a whirl.  On my ibook, Apple Mail says it connects just fine, but I never received any of the mail I know is in the inbox.  I sent test messages to myself, and they never came in.  So I went back to the old setting which worked.
Yesterday, I got another email from Verizon saying I'd better switch to the new pop server because the old setting was going away.  So I switched to the pop server and gave it another try.  Same deal.  Apple Mail diagnostics say connectivity to the pop and smtp server is fine, but no mail comes in.
Anyone have any idea why my incoming mail never arrives?
I haven't tried it on Windows systems.
    Thanks
    Mark
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I had HUGE problems moving over to POP server on my iPad. The "trick" is to first DELETE your existing account, and then go back through Settings to Add Account ...
Also, for both Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server, set Use SSL to "ON"
Performed the same upgrade on my iPhone, which went through very easily.
Once I did the upgrade to the iPad, I did NOT need to update my mail server on my iMac desktop.

  • Import email from apple mail not working

I have a simple applescript which imports emails from Apple Mail into filemaker
    tell application "Mail"
              set theSelection to selection
set theMessage to item 1 of theSelection
              content of theMessage
set the clipboard to content of theMessage as text
    end tell
This works in the Old Apple Mail in 10.6 but Lion changes everything doesnt it. This is not working in the new Mail 5.1. It will import the first message in the string but not the HIGHLIGHTED message which may be in the message string of 3 or 4. I want it to set theMessage contents of the highlighted message. Does anyone know how to select the highlighted message in a string - sometimes called the selected message. Thanks

  • Apple Mail not working -is it easy to convert to MS Entourage ?

    Hi
I have a G4 Power PC-OS 10.5.4 - Mail 3.3. Since last software update I cannot quit mail, only force quit it and I cannot retrieve mail via the 'get mail' button.
I have to force quit out and re start mail. My main problem however is I keep getting the same emails over and over again. I have checked with my ISP- Fine. My Ibook (10.4.8) has the same email accounts and works fine.
I notice in the activity viewer it shows mail is being received but it seems to stall after about 20seconds , I left it on all night last night with no result.Having read a few posts there is obviously an issue with mail. However I need to get my mail working quick, can you, and how easy is it to convert to MS Entourage ? Do you have to manually configure each email account ? or is there a quick sync ?

In com.apple.mail.plist all your Mail preferences are stored and also the account information. After moving this file Mail creates a new one. So, if moving it solved your former issue, then it's probably best to manually set up your accounts once more. If you don't want to do that you could still restore the file to its original location (and by that overwrite the newly created one).

  • IMAP and Apple Mail - not working properly

    Hi all,
I am using Apple Mail and want to use my GMX account with IMAP and are facing 2 issues:
    (1)
While all changes I make directly at www.gmx.ch are being made in Apple Mail on my MacBook Pro, the changes I make in Apple Mail (like moving mails to subfolders, deleting mails, etc.) are not reflected on the GMX server.
    (2)
Sent emails are often put in the Drafts folder AND Sent folder. They are sent, but still appear in the draft folder as they were not sent.
Any idea how to solve these issues?
Thanks a lot & best regards!

You aren't giving us all the relevant information, are you? I bet you access your Gmail account from more than one computer, don't you?

  • Hyperlinks in apple mail not working

Upgaded to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Build 12C60 and was working fine. Just recently (maybe 2 weeks) all website links in mail just go to my browser Google Chrome Version 23.0.1271.101, they do not open the page.
So, I click on the link, it changes to the browser but does not open the link - no activity. I have rebooted, restarted mail and chrome. All of my software is up to date.
Any help is much appreciated. The workaround is to copy and paste but as you can imagine, that's pretty annoying.
    Cheers

Hope the suggestion made in this thread works.

  • Apple mail not working on Lion

We have 3 Macs at the house, 2 of which are Intels running Lion.  Mostly I still use my Powerbook running 10.5.  Since I activated iCloud my Mac mail doesn't work on the Powerbook (error message says its a password issue, which its not).  Is this to be expected?  Any solution?  I can see the mail for that account on the newer computers and those are set up exactly the same as on my older laptop.
    Thanks

Since I activated iCloud my Mac mail doesn't work on the Powerbook (error message says its a password issue, which its not)
    Hi Robert ...
You may be using a different Apple ID for iCloud then you are using for your PoweBook running 10.5 mail account.
Be aware the older laptop mail will not sync with the other Macs running LIon.
Open Mac Mail on the PBook. From the menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
You can verify the user name and password from there.
And check Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
Select Passwords on the left. Locate the keychain for your mail account then right or control click that keychain then select the Attributes tab.
    Click: Show Password
If necessary, you can change the password there. You may be prompted for your admin password to make changes.

  • Apple mail not working with cox

it stopped working on the MBP and the ipad. Got it working working with Cox on the MBP (but) the ipad smtp authentication on the ipad does not have a selection of NONE which cox requires. Anybody solved this? My wife is having the same problem on her ipad. She has a new ipad mini and I have the old ipad one.
    Thanks

You can't have no SMTP server, mail wouldn't work. You need to have something. If I recall correctly, I used to be in a Cox internet area up until a couple of years ago, you have to use their outgoing SMTP server. It's not very hard to do.
Setttings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Accounts (iCloud)>Account>Advanced(Mail)>Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)>Add Server>Put in host name (mail.cox.net, I believe) without user name or password.
    That should work.

  • Apple mail not working since Yosemite installed

I have had not new mail on my MacBook Pro laptop for several days.  I do receive mail on my iPod Touch.  The popup message on the MacBook mail states:   "Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You can remove this restriction in the Accounts preferences by setting “Allow insecure authentication”, which could put your password at risk. " Please advise what to do - I am reluctant to allow insecure authentication.
    Sharon

I am reluctant to allow insecure authentication.
You should be, but if that's what your mail server requires, you'll have to do it anyway, or else switch mail providers (recommended.)

  • HT2216 I am on OSX 10.7.5 and recently had to reinstall it due to 'mail' not working correctly.  That problem was resolved but now my I can't use the 'right click' function on the apple usb mouse.  Any clues?

I am on OSX 10.7.5 and recently had to reinstall it due to 'mail' not working correctly.  That problem was resolved but now my I can't use the 'right click' function on the apple usb mouse.  I only have a previous version re-install disc as I bought the latest OSX off the app store.  Any help gratefully received?

Hmmm, no, no drivers needed, now it sounds like a bad install... unless you might have some old Mouse software installed???
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.
