Apple Mail Problems (8.2; 10.10.3)

Outgoing mail occasionally goes to the Outgoing mailbox where it sits until I quit and restart the application then it gets sent. Occasionally, Incoming Mail has a triangle next to it; a restart of the app results in delivered mail. Lastly, sometimes the app will neither send nor receive and I have to force quit it. A restart typically makes it work again for a while but sometimes I have to quit the Mac and restart. Mail on my iPhone, my wife's and her iMac all work perfectly. I have tried everything I can find and spent days working on this all without success. All of this began the day I upgraded to Yosemite! Help!

  • Virgin email via Apple Mail problem

Hi - The search facility is temporarily down on this site, so I thought I'd post this to see if others have the same problem or there's a solution.
I'm in the UK and Virgin Media are my provider. I have a primary POP email account with them and a number of aliases within that account. But just recently two of my accounts have 'gone down', i.e. they are greyed out on the left menu.
I can still send from the accounts, but cannot receive. I can also log onto web mail without any issues, but mail is simply not downloading to Mail on my desktop. If I delete an account and set it up from scratch, it's fine again... but the problem re-occurs after a week or so.
I have spoken to Virgin support a couple of times and on the last occasion they have said there is nothing obviously wrong at their server end and it must be an Apple Mail problem... most frustrating!
    Any clues anyone?

After a recommendation from support at Virgin, I had to close down the accounts and set them up again. Unfortunately they didn't warn me that I would lose all of my email!!!

  • Apple Mail problems

    Here's the situation:
One PBG4 w/broken screen, running an external (duh) Samsung monitor. This is my shop PB, it's currently masquerading as an immobile desktop.
Another PBG4, which I mostly keep at home, but also use on the road.
LaCie 320GB external Firewire drive. backup at shop (used Migration Assistant to copy the shop PB's system (10.4.7), apps, and docs to the FireWire drive)
Two mail accounts both of which dump into Mail 2.1, on both PBs.
    Problem one:
Is there a way -- besides signing up with .Mac -- that I can synchronize the mail on both machines? Failing that, is there a way -- besides doing it message-by-message -- to save the text and attachments from new mail messages?
    Problem two:
As far as I can tell, both PBs are set up exactly the same way and certainly the mail prefs are the same, and both PBs are set up with Firefox as the default browser. when I click on a hypertext link in a message on my PB at home, it opens Firefox to the correct page, just like it ought to do, but if I click on an HTML link in a message on my PB at the shop, the mail window flashes once, but nothing opens. This is especially problematic when the clickable link is one of those "click here" links, rather than the actual URL.
What in the ding-dong am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

Locally stored mailboxes and POP accounts cannot be synchronized. The only way to synchronize mail between users or computers is storing it on the server, i.e. using an IMAP account (it doesn’t have to be a .Mac account, any IMAP account would do).
Mail stores most preferences and all account settings in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (except the passwords, which are stored in the keychain). Everything else, including all your messages and mailboxes, is stored within the ~/Library/Mail/ folder.
If both computers are running the same major version of Mac OS X, copying these (the preferences file and the entire Mail folder) from one computer to the other is all you need to do in order to have an exact copy of all your messages, mailboxes and Mail settings on both computers.
Locally stored mailboxes can be copied to the Desktop or anywhere else by just dragging them there from Mail itself (for IMAP server-stored mailboxes, transfer the messages to locally stored “On My Mac” mailboxes in Mail first). These, however, are *.mbox folders (not standard mbox files), where messages are stored in individual *.emlx files that other mail clients don’t know or care about. They can be imported back into Mail doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format.
Selected messages can be exported in standard mbox format doing File > Save As and choosing Raw Message Source from the Format popup menu. Standard mbox files can be imported into most mail clients. In particular, they can be imported back into Mail doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Other as the data format. Using this format, however, would cause some status flags to be lost (e.g. whether a message has been replied to).
Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has an Archive Messages script that you may also find useful.
Finally, there are several backup/archiving solutions for Mail available out there:
    http://www.hawkwings.net/plugins.htm#archive
if I click on an HTML link in a message on my PB at the shop,
the mail window flashes once, but nothing opens.
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. Try to reproduce the problem and look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Apple Mail Problem

    Hello there!
When i am trying to setup Apple Mail with my GMail-Account it says that i need to ask for a specific password from Google. Once that is done and i get to choose following programs i would like to setup my Google Mail Account with.
So far so good - but when i continue it pops up the warning that there appeared a connection problem which basically results that nothing has been set up.
How can i solve that issue? How can i set up Apple Mail for Gmail?
Thank you very much in advance!
Edit: Internet connection is fine of course^^

Thanks Carolyn for your reply. I tried the Rebuild function & had restarted my computer. But the problem still persists. A friend suggests that I need to unsubscribe to those Apple Hot News. But how??? I guess I might have chosen to subscribe to those hot news at the time when I was first setting up this MacBook Pro right after purchase (2008). But the problem only pops up 2 weeks ago. Any other suggestions?

  • Apple Mail problems (Signatures)

I recently found out that my company logo which is used in my Apple mail signature is not displayed on platforms such as, outlook. Outlook users receive my logo as a pasted graphic and my text signature as an attachment. This sort of goes against the purpose of having an email signature, especially when used for business. I spoke with tech support at apple, they advised it was a problem with PC based programs. I called Microsoft and they refused to help me, because I was not using outlook. If anyone has any advice I sure would appreciate the help.

I have the same problem !
    Please help !

    Hi,
Are you able to send mail with Mail? If so, that would verify that your Internet connection is O.K., and that there is probably something wrong with the account setup parameters that Mail has for your email account. In Mail's Preferences, under the "Account Information" for your account in the "Accounts" (icon at the top row of Preferences sections), make sure that all of the information is entered correctly, especially the "Incoming Mail Server". Contact your Internet Service Provider for your email account for the correct values to use in this section.

  • Exchange 2003 - Apple Mail problems

Very strange problem occurred this morning. I've seen numerous posts with similar characteristics, but no resolution. I'll try to be as detailed and concise as possible:
Problem: Can't connect to Exchange server to send or receive mail
    Symptoms:
    - Mail's Activity viewer show's "Logging in as user 'username'" for long periods
    - Mail's Activity viewer show's "Comparing notes with server" for long periods, if it gets this far
    - Mail's Activity viewer displays "Synchronizing with server" for long periods, if it gets this far
    - Mail's Activity viewer displays extremely slow download of mail headers, if it gets this far
    - Entourage v.X and 2004 clients can connect without problem via Exchange protocol, whereas Mail clients (v1.3.11 and 2.0.7) using Exchange or IMAP cannot
    - Mozilla Thunderbird clients can connect without problem via IMAP
    - PC clients using Outlook 2003 for Exchange have no problem at all
I'd love to get this resolved without having to reinstall clients building-wide. I'm not convinced this isn't related directly to Exchange 2003 and/or Active Directory, but suspecting and proving are two different things. Additionally, Mail seems to be the only client affected.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. As always, if we find a resolution, I'll gladly post it here for everyone's benefit.
    Thanks.

This problem is endemic for me, but I find that it's the worst with large mailboxes. One user I have has 7700+ messages in her inbox and simply can't synch with Exchange 2003 using Apple Mail (Tiger). Others see the slowdown initially, but then it goes away and new mail comes in. I don't think it's the Exchange server because I use the same config every day, with 1200+ messages in my inbox and many more in my folders, with barely any slowdowns. I theorize that the large number of messages in the inbox and folders has something to do with it - I had some success with another user by taking lots of msgs out of the inbox and moving folders out of the inbox too.
Entourage v. X works fine, but I don't have Entourage 2004 to compare it with. Outlook 2003 on the Windows side is fine too. It's just Macs running Tiger with Mail 2.0.7 that have delays. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Multiple gmail accounts and apple mail problems

I have upgraded to Lion, I have upgraded MobilMe to iCloud. I have multiple email accounts, including Google Apps and Gmail accounts. I now cannot get my regualr Gmail account to work in Apple Mail. I always get wrong username or password error. Anybody got any ideas?

Yea, I am having email problems across the board. I have Yahoo +, Gmail, Apple mail, corp email, and I use a lot of apple products, iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air, Time Capsules, Airport Extremes, Apple TV's and all in multiple locations. PLUS I travel a ton. Not to meantion I have to use a Blackberry solely because of BBM. So, the last couple of weeks have been interesting. My Yahoo Mail + account deleted all my contacts a few months back and has never been the same. I didn't, Yahoo did and then had the nerve to say 'sorry, you should have backed up'. So much for trusting the cloud. Now, Google and Apple seem to be having issues now after updating my MobileMe account to iCloud and YES, I have multiple Apple ID's and so you know what a mess that is. I could not be the only one with such a broad array of products and now having such problems. What a mess? I went to the 'cloud' 8 years ago after traveling in China a lot and getting tired of giving all my 'info' to the Chinese. So, I wipe before I go and wipe when I get back. Clould email seemed like a good bet but now............. ****, almost makes me want to re-activate my Hotmail account and see if it works now!!!! Never. I live in Brasil now most of the time so maybe I should just relax and go to the beach.......but I have to go to NYC, then Europe, then back to the Mid-East next week......Starting to think about going back to good old snail mail.....;)

  • Outlook 2011 mail sent to Apple mail problems

A lot of my clients send me mail from outlook 2011 and when i receive something as simple as an image as a Signature, it is both embedded and attached, so Apple Mail displays this twice in the message body.
Can anyone advise on how to stop this from happening.

May want to ask in the Microsoft Office for Mac forums, since the question is specific to Outlook.

  • Complex Apple Mail Problem

In using Apple Mail I have found one flaw in such an awesome program. While reading an email I will find a tracking number or information that I want to search for in google, so naturally I right click after highlighting and select "Search in Google", this is an awesome feature but... I use firefox as my default browser and Mail always opens the search in Safari. Yes I have Firefox as my default browser in Apple, Safari, and Firefox preferences. Is their any way to change this? I know its not a huge thing, but it could simplify things for me. Thanks!

  • Gmail and Yahoo with Apple mail problem

Hi, I read Mail help, wouldn't help. I tried many times but couldn't get my gmail and yahoo accounts set up in Mail. what's exactly the Incoming Mail Server of Gmail and Yahoo, and the Outgoing mail Server of these two? How about Hotmail? Every time it shows Not responding. What's the Account Type of Gmail and Yahoo?

    Hi There
For Gmail setup using apple mail use this guide

POP access on yahoo accounts is not free. A yahoo mail plus account is needed.
As far as I am aware Hotmail does not allow any POP access at all. I couldn't find any specific information on POP access in Hotmail's help site.
    Hope this helps

  • G-Mail and Apple Mail problems

I have had tons of problems with my Mail app and Gmail. A window pops open and asks for my password and then does not have any effect on allowing retrieval from the server. Often times I cannot download my mail from gmail at all....have you had similar problems??
    OK....
this gmail/mac mail problem caused me a ton of suffering.....but I think I have it figured out....
I think the problem stems from the fact that if you use gmail through a browser and send messages, for example if you are away from your computer, then those sent messages eventually get stored as new conversations. When you return to using your mail app the messages you sent will appear in your inbox as new mail, sent by you.
I am not quite sure how the next step happens but after a lot of fidgeting what I found was that, after erasing my inbox in gmail(this is probably not necessary), after backing up the messages, I went into gmail's preferences and in POP and Forwarding I selected allow POP for all mail. What happened next was unusual....even though the entire mail box on the gmail server was empty.....when Mail started to get the messages it showed that there were over 300 messages to download. The interesting thing was that most of these messages were sent by me to someone else and had an attachment.
After downloading and erasing all these old messages that were causing this case of Mail constipation I went into Mail preferences>>>accounts>>>advanced and clicked the box "remove copy from server after retrieving message" option and then "right away"in the pull down menu. I also clicked the "remove now" button to clear all previously downloaded messages from the server. I noticed on the Mail app that this happened almost immediatly as Mail went about removing all these old messages from the server.
Since this I have not had any problems. I believe that the problem lies somwhere in the way that Gmail creates "conversations". Somehow sent mail gets spirited away in some nook on the server and accumulates, eventually causing a case of constipation. These backed up messages somehow cause the Mail app to not be able to retrieve new messages. If you find this happening do as I have and see what effect it has. Allow your Mail app to down load all the messages it "sees" and keep an eye on what they are(this may take several hours). Often they will be old and previously sent/downloaded mail. Erase them and make sure that they are erased from the server using the advanced option in Mail preferences.
Maybe someone with a more technical background can explain this phenomenon better.
    Good Luck.

"A search for Mail AND Gmail in these forums (or a
search for just Gmail restricted to this particular
forum) could have saved you a lot of time and would
have provided you a better understanding of what's
going on (note, it should be "Gmail", not "G-Mail")"
I wonder what the purpose of this reply of yours could be. If it is that something I've said has upset you, I don't know what it could be and I really wouldn't care if it wasn't because your statements could mislead other users into misunderstanding how Gmail actually works. There is nothing in the post that originated this thread that has not already been discussed recently in this forum, except for false assumptions that I'll have to clarify now.
First, choosing a setting in Preferences... > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server after retrieving message has no effect on a Gmail account, absolutely none, no matter whether you choose "Right away", or "After a month" or anything else. Yes, Mail will no longer see those messages, but neither would it had you chosen to leave the messages on the server instead. The messages are simply no longer available there for any POP mail client after having downloaded them. The messages are still on the server, however, and you can read them with a web browser. That's how Gmail works.
Second, clicking Remove now in that same preference pane in Mail has no effect on a Gmail account either, absolutely none. The reason this doesn't work is the same as before. The messages on the server have been hidden by Gmail after downloading them and POP mail clients can no longer see them, nor delete them, nor do anything with them, until you go to the Gmail web site and configure your mail account to make all messages still there available for POP download again.
Third, the only way to get a message deleted from the server with a Gmail account is to log into your account with a web browser. Now, if you want your messages to be deleted immediately after being downloaded by Mail, you can accomplish that by choosing the appropriate setting in the web account settings page -- and you are limited to the options provided there. Mail's own settings will continue to be completely and utterly ignored by Gmail.
Now, had you searched these forums as I suggested or just followed the links I provided in my first reply would certainly have saved both you and me and probably anybody else that chose to read this thread a lot of time.

  • Apple Mail problem with exchange server

    Hi
I configure my both Apple Mail and Entourage to link with my work's MS outlook exchange server. Apple Mail is using Exchange and Entourage is using SMTP. Both work fine receiving and sending while i am in the office. However, when i am home or using USB modem, it will only receive and will not send. Can anyone advice what is the issue?
    Thanks

well your work IT guy "should" know which IP address is needed to access from within the work network and from without depending on how he has set up that Exchange server... else it is time to find another IT guy It really is an exchanger server issue, not an Apple Mail issue.
For example, I have been given two IP addresses to use for the outgoing server, and I toggle between one and the other when I want to send email via my exchange account.
    hope this helps

  • TS3276 Apple mail problem

I have two gmail accounts. When I send a message from one account it gets sent from the other account. I deleted the second account from apple mail, but for some reason when I send a message it gets sent from the deleted email address

problem solved. It's necessary that you use the correct gmail server, if you have different google account you must flag the options, in preferences account, "use only this smtp server) and select the correct smtp server (gmail, of course. You see probably several "Gmail", I think it's better to rename each one...)
