Apple Mail program not working

Little loading symbol next to my apple acct spins and spins, does not connect or download (import) mail. My others (including the ever powerful Apple-whuppin G-Mail) all bring in the mail. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason (or changed made) that would cause this to happen, other than yet another glitch at Apple, Inc!
If it were free, then you could say, the junk ain't no good, but the price is right! But THIS APPLE MAIL (.mac) is a crappy $100 per year. Whatta rip-off!
Breaks down more often that a 60 year old mother of 12 with multiple-personality disorder!
Any fixes, or just wait it out?

Sorry, but it's not clear exactly what problem it is that you're complaining about. Is it the application called Mail that comes with Mac OS X that's the problem? Or are you referring to the service called .Mac that you can't connect to? If it's .Mac that you're having problems with, try posting here:
http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=116
and perhaps someone there can help you out.

  • The search function on my apple mail is not working.

The search function in Apple mail is not working.  When I type in something to search by, the results are not showing up.
I've clicked on "All" on the search requirements to include all of my mailboxes.
I've also tried rebuilding the mailboxes with no results.
Has anyone else had this issue?

    Is Spotlight working?

  • Yosemite Apple Mail search not working

Upgraded Mac mini from Mavericks to Yosemite.
Search within Apple mail is not working.
Come to think of it, search everywhere seems to be broken. It's as if Spotlight is not working too well.

FINALLY I found a way to fix this issue, at least for me:
Boot into SAFE mode: OS X Yosemite: Start up in safe mode
    Run Applications -> Disk Utility
Click on your hard drive's volume
Click and run Repair Disk Permissions
    Reboot
    Voila! Fixed at last!
I also found that Alfred was hanging on startup, probably same reason as Alfred uses Spotlight in the background.
    No more issues.
What's weird is that I finally bit the bullet and installed Yosemite on my 13" Retina MacBook Pro and had no spotlight issues whatsoever. Weird.

  • Apple Mail still not working

Since downloading the OS X Yosemite upgrade Apple Mail isn't working. I think there's a major bug.
It hangs and won't respond. Can't access the Mail menu bar commands to make any changes. It crashes. It isn't displaying email content. And, quite oddly, the message viewer window is doing a "punch through" and revealing what's displayed on the desktop behind it.
I see many similar complaints about Apple Mail in these forums. I contacted Apple to see if the issues could be resolved - They acted like they haven't heard anything about Apple Mail problems. They had me re-install Yosemite. Same Apple Mail issues still exists. This is a disaster for those of us who use Apple MAil in our business communications. APPLE HELP!
Does anyone know of a solid work-around, a patch or alternate?

  • Apple Mail will not work without webmail login

Spontaneously 2 weeks ago I got a triangle next to my Apple Mail Inbox and could neither send nor receive email. I have used ATT for DSL and my email address for over two years without this problem. I have checked all my settings with ATT and they claim they have even "rebuilt" my mailbox and all is good. But unless I use a browser to log into webmail first, Mail will not work. The user name/password/port info is all correct, but Mail cannot connect. Even when the "keep me logged in" box is checked when I log in to webmail, Mail will stop working if I close out the browser and put the computer to sleep. This is driving me crazy.

I've had what sounds very similar issue with another DSL ISP: Qwest.
Ran both Comcast & Qwest simultaneously (alternately, not really concurrently)
for awhile & got sporadic blips & failures to connect.
I never could establish conclusively whether it was the ISP, or a local client problem.
I think its the ISP. Had other email annoyances with them that never quite got resolved
Sometimes my mail was left on the webmail server & never got delivered & would do so, same as you describe.
Its never anyone's fault, or problem...
I doubt they'd tell you if it was an issue on their end, if it not resolved.

  • Mail program not working since upgrading to Leopard 10.5.6

We have loaded the new Leopard system now twice, and both times the Mail program fails to launch from the taskbar, but stays open in the background. The program will not close, and fails to open to even try to check email. It seems other programs are working just fine, but nothing right with Mail. Anyone know if there is a fix to this?
    Thanks,
    lldowney

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
While the other poster's cited article references certain issues with 10.5.6, they are when updating a system that was already on Leopard. If, as it appears, you were Upgrading an earlier version of OSX, such as 10.4.11, then the relevant article is:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2537
Where an even earlier OSX than Tiger once generated the Mail folder, two other MessageSorting files will need to be removed, also.

  • Apple Mail aliases, not working anymore

    Hi,
I have a problem since upgrading to the last update of Apple Mail 5.3.
I'm using Apple Mail with my Gmail account; and I can't anymore use my other aliases to sending an email.
When I use an alias, it doesn't work anymore.... The recipient see the same than the principal account.
Gmail is not the problem, because, Thunderbird, Gmail Online Client and Sparrow works correctly.
    My configurations are the same....
    Anyone to help ??
    Thanks !!

Acivate Secondary click in the settings (click on right side). Then use right click to enter numbers. It stop duplicating digits.
I have the same problem and attribute it bad programming. I have installed other calc widgets and had the same problem with duplicate numeral entires when using the mouse.
It seems like upon releasing the mouse, the calculator reads another click. If you press down on the mouse and drag off of the calculator to release it does not duplicate.
Apple just looks dumb when programming bugs like this happen and go unaddressed. Even the track pad on my MBpro does it. I even tried another wired mouse and the problem still persists.
    Good luck

  • Apple Mail search not working for Inbox

In the last few weeks I've notice the Apple Mail (5.2) search feature has stopped working correctly.  It used to turn up all relevant results in a mail box, then lately it seems (based on the results) to go back just a few weeks and not the full year of mail that is in the mailbox.
Following the advise of a MacWorld article I removed these files from Mail's library folder… Envelope Index, Envelope Index-shm, and Envelope Index-wal, restarted Mail and followed the prompt to reindex.  Following that… Search works worse, I run tests to find a word in the body and get 0 results… and I know it's there.  As I type in the last letter of the word into the Seach lozenge  I get a list just below the lozenge ) of People and Subjects that contain the word but nada results for the word in the Body of the message.  These tests were run on the Inbox, other mailboxes (with List-serve Mail) seem to work ok… but the Inbox Search is what I really care about.
Any ideas about fixing this?  Thanks in advance,
    Paul

    This is very dissapointing.

  • Mail program not working

I have 3 mailboxes connected to my mail program on imac. 2 of them are the same mailbox from my yahoo mail. One works on STMP and another works on POP server.
The first question is, how do I combine them into one mailbox because I do get mails that are duplicated sometimes.
The second question is that every now and then, I cannot send mails out from my mailbox. I will get the message as shown in the graphic below. and every mail server cannot work. I will usually restart the mail program, and try it again a few times. Is there some setting i can change?
Last question is that all the mails downloaded from my yahoo servers, are not found in the yahoo server anymore. My webbased yahoo mailbox is empty. Any way to undo that? it is definitely safer to keep my mails in the webbased server and not in my com. I have no idea why my webbased mailbox is wiped out in the first place.
    Any gurus....? Care to help?
    Very frustrated,
    Chu

    Hi Chu,
Regarding your last question (empty Yahoo mailbox): I'm assuming that these are accessed via POP. It's been a while since I used POP for mail, but there should be a setting that controls the "delete after a message is downloaded from the server" behavior: likely on Mail-->Preferences-->Accounts, possibly part of the setup on your Yahoo account itself.
Just IMO, but if your intent is to leave the email on the server, rather than simply have it forwarded to your email client, then you might want to look into using IMAP instead of POP. A side benefit of this would be that changes in one client (message read, message flagged, etc.) would be reflected in all other clients, including the web interface.

  • Mail program not working....IMAP and POP not working, Exchange does

Suddenly my Apple e-mail program, mail, does not send or receive mail. The IMAP account (iCloud) and the POP account (earthlink) do not connect. My Exchange account does. I can get to the e-mails by going directly to the provider using Safari.  As far as I know, I have changed nothing.

    Verify your EarthLink settings:
    Earthlink Settings
    http://support.earthlink.net/email/email-server-settings.php
I would retire the EarthLink account and use iCloud instead. You mentioned using Open DNS. Use Namebench to see what comes up as best options for your location. You can have more than one. It defaults to the top setting, but if it fails to connect, it trys other options listed.
    Test your network connection.
Download and run:  Namebench (free) http://code.google.com/p/namebench/
Once you have the fastest domain name servers, you then have to manually change your DNS settings in System Preferences/Network/
Select different browsers under the popup. I got varying results when using different browsers. Surprisingly, Firefox suggest Google Public DNS as primary, but Chrome and Safari gave me same settings.
System Preferences > Network > Select you internet service (be it Airport, Ethernet etc) then click advanced tab > Select  DNS and enter the settings

You have now (unnecessarily) damaged your system to the point where a reinstallation is necessary. Back up all data first, then boot from your installation disc and reinstall. After rebooting, run Software Update. Then start a new discussion to address your problems with Mail, which will not be solved by downgrading or reinstalling system components.

  • Help! Mail program not working anymore!

    Hi there-
All of the sudden my mac mail program is not working. I click on it, and it appears to launch, but then never starts up or anything, and I can't see the menu bar at the top when I click on the application icon.
Could this be because I have too many mail messages? If so, how do I fix it???
Help! I need my email account back!!
    Thanks.

    Hello Heidi.
Check Multiple applications quit unexpectedly or fail to launch. Although this indicates when this occurs with multiple applications, the same troubleshooting steps apply.
Perform the troubleshooting steps in the order provided with the exception of re-installing the Mail.app if you get that far. If the previous troubleshooting steps do not resolve it, IMO it is best to target the Mail.app preference file first and if you need the instructions for doing so, let me know.

  • I updated to Lion and now the Search function in Apple Mail is not working properly

Even though the "All" option is selected, when I type a string in the Mail spotlight search box, the string is not found.  But I know for a fact the string is in an email and I've manually found the email (in a folder) and copied and pasted it into the search box.  Mail is still not able to find it.
I have also checked to make sure that "Message contains" is the option in the search box.  I've noticed that in some previous searches there has been a little arrow dropdown option next to the magnifying glass icon.  But that arrow is not showing up consistently...and is not showing up now.
    What am I doing wrong?

Ok...here's the steps to fix this as efficiently as possible.  I have a whole bunch of mailboxes under "On My Mac" and they have a bunch of mailboxes nested in them.  I get my messages into Apple Mail via IMAP.  (I don't know if this matters.)  The steps below assume you have a similar setup.
    1.  Hold the Option key down and click the dropdown arrow next to each mailbox that has one.  This will cause all nested mailboxes below it to appear.
    2.  Go to the top of the list of mailboxes under "On My Mac" and highlight the first mailbox.  Then hold the Shift key down and highlight the last mailbox in the list.  This will cause all of the mailboxes and nested mailboxes to be highlighted.
    3.  From the menu, select "Mailbox --> Rebuild" and the rebuild process will start.
    4.  Watch the top of the mail screen to see the message count change as the mailboxes are being rebuilt.  Wait until the activity stops before doing the next step.
    5.  As the mailboxes were rebuilt, many messages were reset as "Unread" even though every message was previously "Read."  Make sure the mailboxes you want to affect are still highlighted.  Right-click and select "Mark All Messages Read."
That fixed the problem for me.

  • I have an iMac 10.7. My apple mail is not working. How do I fix it?

Anyone have the solution for this?

I followed your instructions. I copied the link you sent me and opened the File Menu. Here's what the other post told me to do.
Open Finder-Go Menu-Go to folder and copy in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and move the file to the trash. Then try to re-open Mail.
After I opened File I couldn't find "Go to folder"  If you meant Go to the Applications folder, I did that and searched for the ~Library/Preferences/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and it reported no file of that name.
    Stumped.
If it still wont work then restart the computer in Safe Mode and try your mail app.

  • Apple Mail Will Not Work with DSL

I have a MacBook Pro i7 running OS 10.7.4 (Lion). My version of Apple Mail is 5.2. The server names are set correctly. Both incoming and outgoing. The numbers? I dunno. POP3 is sets itself for 995 with SSL enabled. SMTP is set for 465 with SSL enabled. Needless to say, there is a ton of mail on the Verizon web mail page, but none of it will download into Apple Mail. Verizon Mail seems to set itself up automatically on my iPhone, but that's not where I need it. I need it at the desktop. However, the server numbers seem to automatically change on me every time I turn my back.
Just what are the proper server numbers now, and do we need to enable SSL with them?
    Thanks a bunch.
