Apple Mail sending problems

I have a Macbook and it's working fine in my home office.  I purchased a Macbook Air and set it up for traveling internationally.  It was sending and receiving emails fine in the USA.  I have three email acccounts including fastmail IMAP, gmail IMAP and a company Exchange account.  About a week into my travels in Central Asia, I was not longer sending emails from Apple Mail.  If I save a draft, it shows up in my Mail folders.  But once I "send", the message is completely lost.  The message is not in my folders.  I've tested by sending to myself.
I've tried the following:
1)  Deleting Envelope Index and reloading files.
2) Deleting Accounts and reloading preferences
3)  Changing ports to 25, 465, and 587
4)  Connection Doctor shows green light for all accounts.
5)  Deleting com.applemail.plist and reloading
6) I use SSL and the above ports
7) My current setting for all three accounts is "Store sent messages on the server"
I can use Webmail but I would like to send from my email client - Apple Mail.
Any suggestions?

I have now identified the source of this problem.
I changed the title of my original Mail file by Old Mail.
I opened Mail and added only IMAP accounts (three).  They all send and receive.
The Smart Mailbox files and Rules are still intact.
I copied Mailboxes into Mail.  And now I cannot send emails.  So there must be some corruption in the Mailboxes (On My Mac) that prevents sending.
Any thoughts on how to keep Mailboxes and get rid of corruption?

  • A new clue to the Apple Mail sending problems?

In my continuing efforts to fix the SMTP/POP mail failures with Apple mail, I've noticed a glitch that some of you more advanced readers might be able to decipher.
After lots of fruitless messing around with port numbers, preferences, and keychain fix attempts, what did work for me (temporarily) was a cleaning out of all the servers listed on the mail account options window, and then putting the original names and other info back in. Somehow, the mail app is spontaneously generating multiple combinations of server names, usually the original server name, plus a user name, the server name again, or some other redundant combination.
As I use mail to manage two separate POP accounts, sometimes it also creates hybrid server names by combining the server/user name pieces across both accounts.
This appears to happen entirely on its own; I had mail working for about 90 minutes, then it fell into this problem again. I'll probably have to keep cleaning it out, like a boat owner scraping barnacles off the hull, until Apple offers some kind of a patch.
Has anyone else who has the nagging "can't send SMTP mail" problem seen this phenomenon in their server/account preferences specs? If so, any ideas on how to stop this madness?

You haven’t said what the problem was in your case, i.e. what error message did you get when sending, if any, whether the mail account and the associated outgoing (SMTP) server were provided by your ISP or by someone else, etc.
Mail doesn’t spontaneoulsy generate outgoing server entries, but it keeps information about outgoing (SMTP) servers in a separate list independently of the mail accounts themselves. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Deleting an account doesn’t remove from the list the outgoing server that was associated with it. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause weird sending problems, and could very well have been the problem in your case as well.
As you appear to have already found out, you may go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn’t be there — the Edit Server List panel shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.

  • Why is Apple Mail sending in plain text even when rich text is set as preference?

I have Verdana selected as my Message Font and the Composing Message Format preference set as Rich Text, yet Apple Mail sends new messages in plain text (Monaco). When I type the message it shows in Verdana. When I check it in Sent Mail, it is in Monaco. When I choose Send Again, the new massage appears in Verdana again, but after sending it is in Monaco. Also, The received message in in Monaco. I've tested this with other fonts and font sizes and the same thing happens.
    How do I fix this?
Note: Mail correctly replies in the same format as received messages. Only new mail has the plain text problem.

I suspect that for each one you need to go to Format > Make Plain Text

  • Yahoo! Mail send problem

Hello all, anyone know when we will see a fix for the Yahoo! Mail sending problem? (This is when the iphone appears to have sent an email by playing the "swoosh" sent mail sound, but the message was not sent, the way users have been getting Yahoo! Mail to send again is by turning their iphone off then back on).
    Cheers

For what it's worth I also had this problem with Yahoo mail on my iPhone. After getting tired of waiting for Yahoo to do something about it, I decided to cancel my Premium Yahoo account and switch to Gmail. I have to tell you Gmail has been amazing and I haven't looked back since. IMAP Gmail on my iPhone has made my email experience a pure joy.
BTW - I had my Yahoo account for over 7 years. And did you know that Yahoo is an acronym for You Always Have Other Options? Well I took them up on their advice since I wasn't too impressed with their service! My 2 cents.

  • Apple Mail send and receive problems, Network Solutions

    Hello Everyone,
I'm currently facing a problem with a company email account that we have with network solutions.
NSmail Pro (IMAP) that is configured with apple mail. Here are the settings that i have:
    Incoming mail: mail.(company.domain).com
    Port: 110
    SSL: No
    Outgoing mail: smtp.(company.domain).com
    Port: 2525
    SSL: No
    Auth: Password
Whenever i'm at the office, I can send and receive emails without any problems (Using mail app), but when i'm at home i can't receive emails nor send one.
I'm wondering if this has something to do with the Mail application, cause i can access the email using the webmail on a browser without any problems (either at home or at the Office).
    Any thoughts from our experts?

I'm guessing that when you are at the office, you are probably accessing a company network and the company mail will only work with those settings on the company network. You may need to discuss this with your IT department at work to see if it need a different configuration for outside access.
The fact that it works at work and not at home indicates a that it surely an issue with the connection setup.
Assuming that you are accessing it through wi-Fi at both locations, do you have different wi-Fi connections set up on you Mac in Network Preferences, or is it the same wi-Fi connection used for both? In other words, do you have a specific wifi setup on your computer for connecting at the office?

  • Apple Mail sending multiple copies of email. What's the cure?, Apple Mail sending multiple copies of email. What's the cure?, Apple Mail sending multiple copies of email. What's the cure?

Recently, my Apple Mail has been sending from two to six copies of email, timed to the same minute. I've taken to using Thunderbied (which I don't prefer) to avoid it. My theory is that if I can reload Lion it might cure it, but since Lion only comes as a download, I don't know how.
I've had MacKeeper in place since before the problem, but updating it became impossible. I emailed that program and was advised to trash it, do a cold reboot and then download it again. I did, and it hasn't helped.
    Any suggestions?

MacKeeper is so bad, it has earnt the distinction of a User Tip of it's own
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3036
After dragging the app to the trash, you will need to clean up using something like  AppTrap, AppZapper, AppCleaner etc. The official MacKeeper uninistaller leaves advert popups still appearing on your computer.

  • Mail Sending Problems

I have a client using Mail to access an IMAP account on our Merak Mail Server (Linux). When trying to send, she's getting the following error:
    ERROR
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail Preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator.
If she restarts Mail, then opens each message in the outbox, they go out. The problem seems intermittent. We have other IMAP accounts using Apple Mail with no trouble. She's getting incredibly frustrated, and so am I. Any suggestions?
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Mail 1.3.11 (V622)

    Clint,
The first thing to check would be the cable -- a damaged cable could cause this random issue.
Second thing to consider, is probably MTU (maximum transmission unit) -- she may need to lower it, a bit -- see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107962
which will explain where to change (even though not the exact issue), and what has been updated for 10.4, but for ethernet is basically the same thing for 10.3:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303192
Somehow the documentation has been messed up for addressing this in 10.3, but you should get the idea from these two articles. Change first to 1492, and then go down by 100 increments to see if the problem is resolved.
The speed and packet size used my her Mac might be different to others, or hers may not have correctly reached the right value, automatically.
    Keep us informed.

  • Mail & Yahoo Mail Sending problems

Hello all, I have finally admitted defeat. I have been using Apple Mail to pick up my Yahoo Mail for a long time without any issues. Suddenly it has decided to not send emails...and I have no idea why.
I got the settings off of Yahoo's site. The pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk settings work but it seems that the smtp settings are the ones creating the issues. Currently they are smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk / server port 465 / SSL checked and authenicating with a password. I have used the connection doctor and it says that both incoming and outgoing connections are good.
Anyway, after trawling through the forums on Yahoo and here I have tried deleting all prefs, re-inputting all of the above information. No joy. I have tried changing the port to 587. No joy. I have tried turning off SSL and switching to port 110. No juice.
I have tried the same settings in Entourage but that doesn't work either. So, I am now throwing myself at these boards to see if someone - anyone - has a solution that doesn't require a stamp and an envelope.
Man, I can build and rig straight down the pipe but I can't send an email! Hummph.

    Hi
I too am having problems sending email from my Yahoo accounts. I contacted Yahoo support and they sent me this to try.
    1. Launch the "Terminal" application located in the "Applications:
    Utilities" folder.
    2. At the text prompt, type "telnet pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk 110" and press
the "Enter/Return" key. If you're successful, you should now see "+OK
hello from popgate." If you don't see this, close the window and start
over or check your Internet or network connection to make sure you're
    logged on.
    3. From this screen, type "user xxx" (where xxx is your Yahoo! ID) and
press "Enter/Return." You should be prompted with "+OK password
    required."
    4. Type "pass yyy" (where yyy is your case-sensitive password) and press
"Enter/Return." If this is successful, you should receive a prompt with
"+OK maildrop ready," followed by mailbox details. If this was not
successful, you'll receive "-ERR Error logging in. Please visit
    http://ymailuk.com/."
    5. Type "quit" and press "Enter" to sign off the POP server.
    6. Type "exit" and press "Enter" to return to Windows.
If you weren't able to get the POP authentication during the first try,
please wait a few minutes and try again. After several tries, you should
be able to tell if your ID and password will allow you to achieve POP
    authentication.
Next, check if you are able to communicate with the Yahoo! Mail Plus
    SMTP server. Here's how:
    1. Launch the "Terminal" application located in the "OS X Applications:
    Utilities" folder.
    2. At the text prompt, type "telnet smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk 25" and press
the "Enter/Return" key. If the port is not blocked, you should receive a
response similar to "220 smtpxxx.mail.yahoo.co.uk ESMTP" (where "xxx" is
the server number you connected to). If you don't receive this specific
response or if you get a different response, your ISP, networking
equipment, or security software may be blocking or scanning outgoing
    mail servers.
NOTE: Please also try port 587 in place of 25. It's important that you
try the alternate port, as some ISPs will block port 25 by default.
Though it does mention Mail Plus in the instructions and I don't have MailPlus I was able to connect using port 587 to the SMTP Server.

  • Apple mail: Sender not matching message

I had a problem with my messages from my apple account through Apple Mail. When I opened up the message, the message was from someone else and from a different date then who was listed as the sender. So Bob sent me a message and when I opened up the email it was a message from Steve from six months ago. So what I did was to rebuild my mac email box.
To rebuild your specific mailbox, you must select the specific mailbox. Then go to the menu mailbox and click on Rebuild.
This did take some time, but it cleared up the problem and fixed all new and old message that had the problem.

  • Apple mail sender sort reverts to end of alphabet

I was in a string where the issue of Yosemite's Apple Mail sorting on sender (or subject) resulted in a sort that reverts to the end of the alphabet, rather than retaining the selected name or subject.  This requires scrolling back through the entire list (now inconveniently sorted) to find the original highlighted sender or subject.  Before Yosemite the selected sender or subject would be retained, so that I could deal as I wished with the sorted group.  This is a huge time waste and Yosemite is a major down-grade IMHO for this feature which I formerly used frequently to organize a string of senders or subjects.  APPLE WHAT GIVES?  As well, I would have preferred to add my voice to the already-existing string on this topic, but of course when I signed in I was given a fresh page to start with.  Kinda like getting sorted to the end of the alphabet.  Convenient way for Apple not to hear a concerted chorus of voices on a particular topic.  DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND ANYMORE HOW PEOPLE USE COMPUTERS??

Greetings: Similar problem here after moving to 10.5 on a G4 MMD. MAIL.app has been working fine for a year - and still is on my MacBook with 10.4 and iPhone - but 10.5 mail is ignoring my attempts to get send using ssl with exact same settings. The new "connection Doctor" is a nice touch, but it still does not clear. Incoming mail OK, and my Eudora path to same smtp servers using SSL is also running fine under 10.5, so I assume it is a MAIL app issue.
I need to go the ssl route to get through my cable broadband provider's servers into my web-hosting site servers for send. Send to provider's servers sans SSL, and getting out through mac.com mail is also fine.

  • Apple mail printing problems

I updated to OS X Ver. 10.9.3 this afternoon. It went smoothly; however, when I used Apple Mail I could not print the message contents from PayPal, only the header. It only exported the header also to a .pdf file. It seems to work fine for other emails, except for the stupid tendency to print all mails from a particular sender unless you click the message you actually want printed.
Anybody else faced up to this screw up yet?
    Follow up:
Apple Mail with new OS X Ver. 10.9.3 is having problems scaling messages to print in portrait mode. It will only print headers in some messages, unless you set the page to print in landscape mode.

    Others have reported this issue:
paypal receipts won't print in mac mail
    Select the message, then select
         File ▹ Export as PDF...
from the menu bar. Print the exported message in Preview.

  • HT6147 iOS 7.0.6 update - mail sending problems & uncontrollable apps closing

    Hi all!
I’m having problems on two iPads after installing iOS 7.0.6 update. The first one is “sending mails via Exchange account and gmail is a NO GO!” an the second is “closing apps from time to time uncontrollably”. With iOS 7.0.4 this worked fine.
Anyone with same or similar problems? Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I already tried rebooting and deleting/adding accounts again in mail app with no positive effect.
Since iPads are used by company’s managers where seamless emailing is crucial function, this made iPads expensive bricks and nothing more.
The rest of iPads are to stay on the older version till this is fixed or workaround is found.

  • Apple Mail send but cannot recieve

I've got a Macbook with a Snow Leopard running on it. Apple Mail sometimes has troubles to connect to gmail server to recieve new messages. On the other hand, I don't have problems to send even if I can't recieve.
I don't know what causes the problem but it solves itself when I reboot the machine. Any ideas of why is this happening? I've got Apple Mail v.4.6
    Thanks!!

This may not help, but a few months ago I was trying to send a message to members of my professional organization, but kept getting a similar message. I exchanged correspondence with Tech Help at my server to no avail. I thought the problem might have to do with the quantity of receoients, so I started deleting a few at a time from the list and resending. All of a sudden, it worked!
I finally narrowed it down to one address that had been preventing the message from going out. After I deleted and exactly retyped the address, I never had another problem. Never understood what had happened.
